I think humour is an underrated and underused aspect of horror. It's something that I appreciated in the short story collection, "Stitches". The author, Sylvester Barzey, has a playful way of writing that makes a chilling and/or creepy story also fun. There isn't a boring tale in this bunch.
My favourites included "Blood Note", because who doesn't like a bit of occultism with their rock 'n' roll? Also, "Shades of Blue", which is about an actor making a comeback while having a past that might come back to haunt him, and "Camp Lanier", which was more of a tease than a full story, but it left me wanting more.
My main criticism of this collection is the editing. These are stories previously published in different collections before being stitched together (see what he did there?) in this one. And some of the stories are better edited than others. While the editing issues didn't ruin the collection for me, it was distracting at points.
That being said, these were imaginative stories from a talented writer. And I will be reading more of his work going forward.
