For Callie Mcguire, love is that mysterious, magical thing you read about in books. It’s Darcy’s and Elizabeth Bennet’spassionate romance: beautiful, bittersweet, and inspiring.
And it’s entirely out of reach.
Callie moved all the way to Chicago to find love, and it’s been failure after failure. Almost ready to give up on the notion, she stumbles across a new dating website with an incredible promise: true love with a million-dollar satisfaction guarantee.
Determined to make this her last attempt at finding her match, Callie signs up. When the results turn out to be nothing like she expected, she decides to call the whole thing off and abandon romance for a while.
Little does she know that her decisions will send her life in a direction she never could have expected, and she’s forced to realize that perhaps Cupid has a little more influence in our love lives than we thought.
Wendy Day loves to write stories with snarky banter and strong female characters. She is the author of the popular Sally and Pearl Adventure series, named after her own grandmother and great-grandmother. She lives in Michigan with her husband, four kids, two dogs, and one very entitled cat. She is a mediocre painter and terrible cook. When not writing, she’s likely to be found daydreaming in a rowboat or curled up in a cozy chair with a glass of wine and a good book.

I went into this story thinking it was going to be either an enemies to lovers story between Cupid and the main character or a romance-thriller about trying to kill Cupid. It was neither. The title is definitely misleading as they don’t spend the book trying to kill Cupid, but instead just try to figure out a way to defeat him.
At first I really liked the main character. She was funny, interesting, a realist and loved Pride and Prejudice. There at the end I found her to be a bit annoying though.
The main love interest of the story was interesting at first too, but then he started to become almost desperate. It was basically an insta-love story. Maybe it’s just me, but after awhile I started to dislike him.
One of the main things that aggravated me about this story was the stupid swipe right incident. It’s what makes the whole plot move forward and all that, but it was so stupid to me. At one point I was wondering why she didn’t just do it to get things over with. Alas, that would’ve made the whole plot practically disappear. The main character probably wouldn’t have noticed anything wrong with the website if she would’ve just swiped right.
Cupid was a jerk. As are most Greek Gods and Goddesses throughout the myths, but I truly hated him in this story. Which, I know, was the whole point considering he’s the villain. The whole stalker thing he had going on? The notes, the roses? Super weird and definitely added to the mystery of this story. I hated him but I love how the author portrayed him.
Overall, I wouldn’t reread this story. It was filled to the brim with filler scenes and things I felt were unnecessary. I hated the whole getting drunk every few chapters because why not. But, I did enjoy reading this for the most part. The main character was entertaining for most of the story and the mystery itself was very interesting.
If you like greek mythology, insta-love, and mysteries, then you should read this story.
If you follow my TikTok or other socials you know I love to hunt through books available on Stuff Your Kindle Days. A lot of the time I find really good books and the premise of this one sold it to me on the day. The FMC is a massive Pride and Prejudice fan (always quoting the book) looking for her Mr Darcy, sadly she keeps being let down and about to give up signs up for a dating website with a million-dollar satisfaction guarantee. After matching with someone Callie doesn't feel compatible with, she decides it's time to take a break from romance, only to have a meet-cute moment with a local author (finally someone to nerd over books with). But when you sign up for Cupid’s own dating site he won't stop until you meet his chosen match.
The plot overall was a series of unfortunate events caused by Cupid to make Callie do as he wants while she figures out how to defeat him. There is no actual attempt to kill cupid, only to make bargains. Callie and the local author also have this insta-love for each other, it feels like the whole relationship was rushed but they make quite the detective duo trying to solve the mystery of the dating site. Also spoiler for the ending…
Still here? Okay so when they finally confront Cupid they want to sacrifice their love and/or life for each other to be free and happy. Only for cupid to turn around and be like forget the whole thing my girlfriend (psyche) took me back.
I loved this story, it was so sweet. There were some laugh out loud moments that I listened to more than once because they were so fun. I was intrigued by Cupid and would love to know more about him. I would definitely listen to more works by this author.
It could have been better... there were plot holes big enough to park a car in. Too many details in some spots and not enough where there needs to be. And I feel like the story just jumped alot... I do like the concept though. This could have been a really good book
