"I have no tolerance for spoiled brats."

Aurora Fairhurst was exactly that--a spoiled brat. But Chance Cody's words and his refusal to be impressed by her wealthy family infuriated her.

The Yukon wilderness where Aurora had fled to escape a stifling arranged marriage was Chance's element. Try as she might on the two-week trek with Chance as guide, she could never get the upper hand.

Gradually, as she learned about survival, Aurora's pretenses dropped. She discovered a new self--honest, sensitive and hopelessly in love with her guide.

This is just a little gem of a Harlequin romance. 3 1/2 stars. I had to knock off a half star because of the mildly derogatory references to "Indians" at the beginning of the story - yes, it was a different era, but these things do matter now, so I'm mentioning it now.

Okay - now that I have that out of the way, on to the story. Heroine is a spoiled rich girl who suddenly realizes she doesn't want to marry the boring guy her father hand-picked for her. Two weeks before the wedding she has the opportunity to escape when her friend decides to opt out of a wilderness adventure. The friend wants someone else to take her place, but the heroine decides to take matters in her own hands. She hits the outdoor store and then makes the long journey to the Yukon - all without really thinking about what she is getting into.

Once the group is assembled - two brothers, a juvenile delinquent, and a female gym teacher, the heroine realizes that these are not her people and she is ill-equipped to go on a 150 mile hike through the wilderness. The guide (our hero) also realizes this. To put it mildly.

The heroine is horrible in her defensiveness, insecurity and fear. She has a sharp tongue and an attitude - her only weapons - and she uses them long after they are effective. The author did not make her likable at the beginning. (Understandable - but not likable). Luckily, the hero is used to dealing with juvenile delinquents and he is tough without being mean. He's a true alpha.

The rest of the story is the heroine surviving the walk, learning to appreciate her fellow adventurers and nature, and falling for the hero. It's gratifying to watch a character change and grow and the author does a great job of rounding out the other characters on the adventure without distracting from the H/h relationship.

The heroine's sharp tongue comes in handy when she scolds a bear (her biggest fear) and it lumbers away.

The poor hero has succumb to his attraction to the heroine after that. There is a lovely consummation scene with a wreath of flowers that shows his sensitivity and his commitment to the h.

There's a lovely twist at the end that I could see coming - but I liked how it was revealed.

There's a really funny review on Amazon (not too spoilery) that might pique your interest in this book.

O DIEVE PAGALIAU RADAU SITA KNYGA pasirodo lietuviai buvo išverte sita autore i kvin vailder😑
ZR GERAS ROMANAS IR WTF CIA LOVER YRA INDENAS!????? Ant kiek sutapo sita knyga tsg skirta man.
Pats geriausias dalykas apie sita knyga tai tikriausiai kad ji lb plona ir lengva laikyti ir aesthetic virselis.
Daug gamtos, character development, enemies to lovers, indenas, daug chemijos ir gavau daug drugeliu pilve. Rasymo stilius irgi good, nes ivykiai eina gana greitai ir gauname daug Auroros minčiu, ir lb patiko toks bridgerton vibes tokia aukštuomenė ir mandagus bet ižūlus dialogas🫶🫶🫶viskas lb panašu i laumžirgiu vasara, bet more mature🤌vis dar galvoju apie sita knyga

Aurora had great doubts about her upcoming planned wedding to Douglas Hartman. She didn't know much about her inner reasons for concluding that she didn't want to marry him, but she was so eager to know herself much better that her phony social circles allowed her to. When her father refused point blank to cancel the wedding, Aurora resorted to desperate measures. She took her friend's place in a two-weeks trip to the heart of the wilderness of North America. It was there she met ruthless uncomprimising Chance Cody, who was to be her guide with the other four members of the trip. Chance mocked her trivial spoilt manners and challenged her to redicover her true self. The more Aurora knew herself and her potentials, the more she understood Chance more, the more she fell deeply in love with this untamed man.

A very delicious read. entertaining and enlightening in the same time, and even though the writer chose the events to progess in two weeks, the worderful writing and the development of the characters were suffice to boost the book plausibility. A recommended read for sure.

Liked it
Though it was hard for me to like the h in the beginning, the author did really show her as the spoilt one but even in that she wasn't malicious or evil and later on she began to thaw and change liked her.
H was good and as for the supporting cast liked the twins and mostly everyone.
