What if being rejected and humiliated by your fated mate unlocks deadly unwieldy powers long sealed inside you? Yeah. Big mistake Jaxson Warclaw.
I’m an orphan with a bad attitude, a sailor's tongue and no one who even remotely likes me. Much less loves me. When I'm thrown out in the wee hours of the morning with no money and no where to go. I become a target, I become Dark Fey food. And they make good on their reputation, but somehow the locket I have turns one into dust. And boy, they're not happy.
But then I'm rescued by a glowing golden invitation. Somehow me, the oddball human, has a spot waiting at Taika-Galdur Academy, the most prestigious magic academy in the country.
From there I learn that the handsome wolf shifter who saved my arse at the gates of the academy is my fated mate. Until he rejects me... The humiliation rips through me and unleashes powers hidden in my locket.
Now I'm the baddest one walking. I'll make him regret his choice.
I'll show him and the entire school that the mate he thought was weak and unworthy is actually the strongest one in this academy. Once I find out who put me here and why the Dark Fey really want me dead, I can kiss this place goodbye.
Unless, you know, there are more secrets and twists that I'm not expecting...
This is a Rejected mates shifter romance novel series with drama, angst and magic. Must love werewolves, hot pack leaders, and hard-won but totally heartwarming happily ever afters. For readers 17+ because it gets hawt!
The story line is good and has great potential but falls a bit when it comes to characters. Stella lived in an orphanage thinking that she is human. At her 18th birthday she gets kicked out of orphanage and somehow she gets magically accepted at a magic academy. While trying to reach her destination she gets attacked by dark Fey who seem to be after her. When she reaches her final destination she meets a shifter, Jaxon, and finds out that they are mates. He rejects her in front of whole academy because she is human and while she is in rejection pain she unleashes her powers. Stella is not human but something a lot more.
I love strong females but Stella was a bit too childish and came off like a brat in some situations at the academy. I think it is great to stand up to authority when they are in the wrong but to laugh it off as oops ok I will go now degrades her character and makes her come off insecure. For me personally it didn't match up to the character from the beginning of the book. Also, I didn't feel connection between Jaxon and Stella. Jaxon rejected her - of course he has a good reason it's for her protection - but ends up following her everywhere. The typical if I can't have you noone will attitude but he can have another mate. His chosen mate is the predictable mean female on campus, Helena. I found Jaxon weak as a character because he could have chosen to stay mateless. He refused to answer any questions about Helena and told Stella not to worry about her. Very cliche. Jaxon is all words and Stella seems not to care because they are mates. Stella finds out Jaxon's secret and embarks on a mission to help him.
Ends on a cliffhanger.
SPOILER: I am confused how can Jaxon take Helena as his mate. His father also supports this decision which Stella could have argued more about with him. The curse said if he takes a "mate" everyone will be destroyed (ie. the curse didn't say fated mate but just mate). So why take her as a mate because it will still trigger the curse. He should have stayed mateless. Helena doesn't bring anything to the table so why her specifically. I also didn't like that Stella didn't confront his dad about this more.
This book was definitely not what I was expecting. I guess when reading an academy shifter romance book, I've come to expect a certain level of maturity in the characters and writing that was lacking here. So many scenes felt odd and off kilter, esp when our fmc randomly decides to put older and wiser characters in their place - it isn't believable and the speeches she makes come off as over the top, odd and frankly ridiculous. The whole relationship between her and Jax is cringe worthy and I know fated mates are basically insta love, but there's nothing between them but words. We read repeatedly how hot she thinks he is and that's really it. While the idea of the book is intriguing, the writing left me less than impressed and I don't think I'll be moving on to book 2. It had a lot of promise, so even though I did t really like it, I couldn't give it 2 stars.
Found “Wrongly Rejected” on KU. The blurb was interesting so I took a chance. The book’s foreward (listed as ‘unknown file’ in the table of contents) was not only disjointed but it ended in the middle of a sentence. That set the tone for the whole book.
The first chapter was chaotic and the pace abrupt, the dialogue was unnatural and the fmc came across as combative, immature and trying way too hard to be sarcastic and cool. (She was supposed to be 18 but seemed a great deal younger.) The main personality trait for the love interest was being “hot.” I really wanted to be supportive, especially for a first time author who put themselves out there, but there were so many grammatical, punctuation and writing errors that it made following the plot impossible, let alone making the romantic relationship believable. The final chapter seemed rushed (and actually included the phrase “take me to your leader.”) Ultimately, a promising story idea that needs a great deal more work and editing, so I can only give it two stars. However, if it was rewritten and edited, I’d give it another chance.
Blurb: What if being rejected and humiliated by your fated mate unlocks deadly unwieldy shifter powers long sealed inside you? Yeah. Big mistake Jaxx Warclaw. I’m an orphan, an unwanted human girl with a bad case of insomnia and scars that burn on every full moon. And to add to the crap show, a group of homicidal Dark Fey want me dead. But that’s okay, because I’m rescued by the dean of Taika-Galdur Academy and thrown into a magical realm with a new life that has some potential. I have a fairy assistant, a witch friend, and a handsome vampire warrior by my side. Even a fated mate! I never thought anything in life would deem me worthy of love. Especially not a big, handsome, brooding wolf shifter with muscles for days. Until he rejects me. My life is forever changed during a crisis meeting where he has to choose his mate on the spot.Everyone knows it was supposed to be me. The useless weak human. So of course he denies me that privilege. That one chance at healing old wounds. And to add insult to injury, he scoffs about his fated mate being a mere pathetic human. A weakling with zero powers. Well, buddy, you just released the inner wolf boss in me and this girl has more power than you and your pathetic line of Warclaw werewolf pack leaders will ever inherit. So come all, come many, I’m ready to fight everybody. Dark Fey, humiliation, and rejection be damned.
Although I enjoyed reading this story, (primarily because of the dialog, and original plot concept), I am a little disappointed. I found the entire story concept very interesting, but overall I was looking for more. more character depth and development, more description of the environment, characters and action, a lot more incite into the inner workings of the Main characters mindset and emotions. The dialog is on point. I love the verbal interaction between the characters. I just wish I knew if they were smiling gently, smirking, sneering laughing hysterical, and what color are their eyes, skin, hair. And who the heck is Jennifer? This story could be so much more than just interesting if it had been fleshed out. it's like working on a puzzle with a bunch of missing pieces.
Now the book says wrongly rejected, so at first, i thought ooooo Maybe she's been rejected because she's been wrong accused of doing something she didn't. No.....she wasn't wrongly rejected....just rejected for her own safety.
Then there's that one time she grabs his dick which added nothing to the story. More ringe tan anything as there's no chemistry, they don't actually spend any time getting to know each other he just stalks her and issues her orders.
She wants to be able to fight against everything but come across as dumb and immature. She doesn't pay attention to i classes, which half the time would give her the answers she needs. It's a little annoying, considering she's meant to be 18.
For a first in a series book, it was very well written. It caught and held the reader's attention. Stella is bada$$. Even when she assumed she was just human, she stood up to supernatural beings without flinching or running. Meeting her mate and being rejected didn't stop her awesomeness. She continues to find out everything she could about who and what she really is. Finding awesome friends along the way was an added bonus. Hopefully she finds the answers she needs and Jaxson and her can find their happily ever after. Great read. Highly recommend.
I like that the story clips along at a decent pace. When books get too slow its hard to stay interested. This kept me interested. There's enough mystery to not be annoying and things being revealed quickly enough to not make you irritated. I like the characters and look forward to the next book.
Only 4 star as sometimes I found things / actions / discussions confusing or long but otherwise fully fully loved it. I like the heroine a lot. She is snarky and a tough cookie. I like the world built as well and the romance (steam?!) was wow. I also liked the side charaters a lot. So all in all Im very much swapped in and jumping to book two immediately!!!!
Excellent set up. Interesting characters are established and friendships formed. We learn a bit about Stella, our heroine, and a bit about the Academy. Tension is established and then refined. As this is book one, there is no satisfaction to be had. This paves the way for further adventures. It is well done and very frustrating.
Story line fairly good do not like cliffhangers hope second book is as good . wasn't sure I was going to like it at first but it did start making more sense after first chapter. Grammar wasn't to bad either.
Omg I read this whole book in one damn day..... while working... lmao sooo good cursed at the end cause it was getting good when she ended it.... cant wait for the next book already pre-ordered it lol
I do like the story. There is a lot of potential but it’s kind of stilted and the dialogue doesn’t always flow very well. It looks like this is the author’s first book though. So I suspect it will get better with each book that she releases.
I couldn't put this book down! I needed to find out what happened next in the plot. I did find many word errors in the book that's why I only gave it four stars. The characters were realistic with their flaws of character. I recommend this book to everyone.
This story has potential but needs so much attention to make it worth reading. There’s no world or character building, the storyline is confusing and rushed through.
This story kept my interest. Going to read book 2. Sad book 3 not out yet. Lol I speed read so book 2 will be done soon. I read book a bit slower. Really enjoying the story.
