A spicy woman. A sour man. Perfect ingredients for romance—or a recipe for disaster?

Tiffany Young is many things. Snarky? Yep. In your face? Totally. A huge, fearless, bisexual whirlwind packed into a tiny body? That, too. But the one thing she isn’t is a doormat. So, she has no intention of meekly obeying her smug new boss…no matter how sexy the jerk is.

Sam Cooper is not having a good year. His ex made sure of that. Now, all he has left is his brother’s bar and the determination to make it work. He’s not going to let anything get in his way—least of all the strong, gorgeous, head bartender who won’t get off his back…or out of his head.

When their fighting threatens to ruin the bar they both love, will these polar opposites be able to work together, save the bar, and fall in love while they’re at it?

Maybe…with a little luck and a lot of cocktails…

**Sex & Sours, book 2 in The Cocktail Series, is a light, enemies to lovers contemporary romance featuring a hot boss/employee relationship, a few laughs, and a guaranteed happily ever after. Download today, grab a drink, and let the binge-reading begin.

Special thanks to NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Sex & Sours was such a delightful surprise. I went into it without really knowing anything about it, and I could not put in down!

The story follows Tiff, a snarky, badass, award-winning bartender who basically runs the bar where she works - until she's surprised by the arrival of the new owner, Sam, who's a lot more hands-on and opinionated than his predecessor, and is not willing to let her get away with bossing everyone around anymore.

Tiff and Sam immediately clash, and all their interactions are explosive. They can't decide if they want to scream at each other or kiss at any given moment, and it's delicious.

Tiff's struggles with being accepted as bisexual were also beautifully and consciously handled. I loved how the author allowed the characters to fully be who they were; everyone's personalities got to really shine.

This is my first Dani McLean romance, but it will definitely not be my last.

Alright, so I'm a sucker for a good romance novel. I critique them so much harder than any other genre, because I devour them voraciously; I'm talking a couple of hours and I'll be finished the book.
S&S was a fun, easy read. The characters were loveable and didn't fall into a lot of the usual stereotypes I come across in the more romantic themed books. Our MC, Tiff(any) was a strong, fiery leading lady that captures your attention and holds tight for the duration of the novel.
I really look forward to seeing what comes next in this series.

Dani McLean, emerging author of Contemporary Romance stories, writes an easy-to-read enemies-to-lovers romance about bar owner Sam and his award-winning, head bartender Tiffany.

Our thanks to NetGalley and Dani McLean for this eARC in exchange for our honest thoughts on Sex & Sours, the second instalment in Dani McLean’s The Cocktail Series.

To embrace our main character Tiff(any)’s penchant for transparent honesty, let me start by saying I spent the first one-third of this book disliking both main characters, feeling towards both of them how they felt about each other. It made the remaining 2/3 of this read so much more enjoyable and immersive because in learning more about them I grew to love them, alongside their own journey to falling in love with each other. Brilliant, Dani McLean!!

At first, Tiff reads as headstrong, standoffish and unwilling to forfeit control; as the head bartender and manager of The Basement, a cocktail bar in Chicago, Tiff is ready to hate new general manager Sam, brother of the bar’s former owner Henry. As Sam takes back control of decision-making in all areas of the bar—renovation, menu and staffing—he learns Tiff’s reluctance and tension for his influence comes from a place of deep-rooted passion for building and sustaining not just a profitable bar but one that feels like home for patrons and employees alike.

As an avid-reader of the enemies-to-lovers trope I can say with certainty this is one of the most natural and realistic I’ve had the pleasure of reading. These are two characters who legitimately hate each other but who tear down each other’s personal and professional walls with each interaction. The natural progression of their relationship from a new boss and employee who endlessly butt heads—to friends with deep mutual respect for each other’s experiences and perspectives—to two humans who genuinely see, appreciate and love each other develops so organically you feel like a patron at The Basement watching everything unfold from the other side of the bar.

“When his smile appeared, it took me a moment to realize what was happening. It felt momentous. A firm shift, more so than last night, from the cold antagonism we had to whatever this was. The sight of his grin was unique for me. I was so used to seeing it directed at others that I only just realized he had dimples. They were gorgeous. Oh, no.”

What really made this book for me was the grace and natural elegance with which McLean writes their self-awareness, growing feelings and relationship; I could bask in the warmth of their banter-turned-intimacy ALL DAY. I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is that makes their non-sexual intimacy so powerful but McLean perfectly captured the essence and beauty of those shared moments so magically I literally clutched for my heart.

“It felt natural, like an extension of who we’d always been. Nothing scary about it. I knew him. He knew me. We liked each other anyway. We’d already fought and made up or moved on a hundred times, so I didn’t have to worry about that. I’d never held back from him, and I had to believe he’d mostly done the same. The idea of more, of (fuck) forever, was more like never saying no to what we had, not saying yes to anything new…Silently, I flattened my palm against his chest, above his breast bone, feeling for his heartbeat. Did it harbor the same sense of belonging that mine did? The same recognition of a kindred, an equal? I wanted it to."

I REST MY CASE.

A transcendent theme throughout this book is acceptance—of yourself, your mistakes and past, of others and navigating relationships and a world that is unaccepting of you—and a primary function of exploring this theme is Tiff’s experience as a bisexual woman. I can’t overstate how beautifully, meaningfully and consciously McLean handles Tiff’s struggles with acceptance by partners and experience with bi-erasure. As this was only my second read with a bisexual main character behind Alexandria Bellefleur’s Annie in Hang The Moon, in continuing to diversify the voices and perspectives I read I’ll look to McLean and her recommendations. I can only imagine how empowering Tiff’s strength will be for those whose personal experiences mirror those we see Tiff overcome in Sex & Sours, and I extend heartfelt admiration to McLean, an openly bisexual woman, for the courage it must have taken to shape Tiff’s experiences around your own.

Sex & Sours by Dani McLean

Rough summary

Tiffany Young is the talented head bartender at the bar she works at, The Basement. However, her entire routine is getting upended when the former owner sells the establishment to his brother. Said brother, Sam Cooper, is well-known and quite successful in the industry. But after a messy separation from his ex-girlfriend and business partner, he’s come back home to start fresh, to start from scratch.
But Tiff and Sam get off on the wrong foot.
The new dynamic in the workplace shifts, and it’s clear that Sam will be a much more hands-on owner, unlike his brother. This leads to many squabbles, lots of bantering in the workplace, and a lot more complaining from Tiff outside of the establishment. At least, until neither can withstand the sizzling attraction between them.
Mixing business with pleasure was the reason Sam had to start all over. But maybe this time, it won’t end up biting him in the ass.

Review

I knew from Dani McLean’s first book, Love & Rum, that Tiff would be a character I’d love. I mean, even in that first book, I thought she was amazing. And this one, Sex & Sours, further proved it.

Dani McLean’s writing is one to love, and I couldn’t put this book down. The storyline was fun and exciting, and it really drew me in from chapter one. I loved L&R, but S&S is by far my absolute favorite.

The banter, the squabbling, and the constant back and forth between Tiff and Sam were honestly so much fun, and it had me giggling and laughing along with them. They antagonized and pushed each other’s buttons at every possible opportunity. But at the same time, they respected the other on a professional level. It was good great combination of playfulness and professionalism.

Their (professional) relationship started off rocky, both of them having judged the other before they even met. Tiff was basically the one in charge before Sam took over, and to Sam, it seemed like she was taking advantage of his brother to get things done her way. It almost seemed like she wanted to take over the bar, when in reality, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

One more relationship point I’d like to mention, is the fact that they are so open and comfortable about their wants and need, their likes and dislikes in the bedroom. Tiff and Sam work so well together, both professionally and behind closed doors.

Now, Tiff as a character, was exactly what I expected her to be like, what we had seen from her in L&R. In short, Tiffany is a talented and hard-working mixologist with short-term plans. She doesn’t plan too far into the future, which is fine with her, but something that her partners and others around her seem to have a problem with. But besides that, Tiff is also a very caring person, she’s as helpful as they can get, and she’s strong and bold. She likes to help whenever and however she can, never expecting to get anything in return. What Tiff doesn’t do, is take shit, because she isn’t shy about sharing her opinions. Overall, Tiffany Young is as amazing as a character can get. She’s the kind of person so many would either want as a friend, or actually be. I’ve loved her from chapter one, and I’ll keep loving her after the ending.

Honestly, I don’t have much to say about Sam, other than that he’s great. He’s obviously very passionate about what he does, and really does want to see The Basement do well. He plans ahead, and he plans well. But the situation he’s ‘recovering’ from was something he never even saw in the equation.

TW/CW
Another important detail in S&S is the fact that Tiff is an openly bisexual woman. Everyone around her is supportive of her, and it isn’t a fact that she hides from people. This, is very important to the story, because her partner at the beginning of the book wasn’t very supportive of her. Tiff, in this book, deals with bi-erasure from her partner. The things that had been said to her, had been said about her, had my blood boiling. I wanted to so desperately jump in and defend her. But like I said, Tiff is a strong woman, and she stood up for herself, she handled it well (in my humble opinion).

I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I would also like to thank the author for all that they have done for us readers. When I requested an ARC through the BookSirens website, it said that I didn’t qualify for one. I wanted to so desperately read Tiff’s book, so I took a chance and messaged the author privately to ask if there were any other places to sign up. But Dani McLean went out of their way to make it so non-Amazon-reviewers could also get a copy of the Sex & Sours ARC. They made it very clear that all reviews are welcome, whether that be on Amazon, Goodreads or any other platform. So, I would like to thank the author for all that they have done, and to show them how much I, as a reader, appreciate their efforts. Happy pub day, and to many more!

TW: bi-erasure

Personalities and hearts clash when head bartender Tiff and new bar owner Sam meet. Hilarity ensues!

This was an enjoyable light hearted romance, contemporary style enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract story. This is the second book in the Cocktails series and it was a wonderful follow-up to the debut, Love & Rum.

Both Sam and Tiff were so relatable in different aspects, but Tiff's story just tugged at my heart because it was so relatable to me. Not only was The Mummy formative in my own life, having someone completely deny who you are as a person, especially someone who you have grown to care for, is gut-wrenching. While I would have addressed it right away, I think the author presented the issue of bi-erasure and had her MC handle it well without compromising who she was at her core.

All in all this was a sweet story of two opposite people just trying to find their person who can accept them - mistakes and all - without any question.

This book was great. I loved the restaurant setting and wish I could try some of the drinks that Tiffany was mixing. Tiffany is a strong female and Sam is the quiet, subdued love interest, which personally is my favorite combination. There was plenty of tension between Sam and Tiffany, and also a lot of growth for both of them. I had no idea this was the second book in a series but I will happily read the others. The only thing I don’t like about this book is the title.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is a great enemies to lovers workplace relationship between Tiff and her new Boss Sam.

Tiff doesnt like change and has no idea what she wants, whereas Sam has been burnt by decisions and relationships in his past.

Sam and Tiff have undeniable Chemistry on the page and there is plenty of tension.

This was a great, quick, fun read and you might learn how to make a cocktail or two aswell

(I received an ARC for this book)

Trigger Warning: this book involves bi-erasure.

The Hating Game but in a bar. Things start off rocky. There’s an imbalance of power, opinions already pre-made and ready to explode. Sam comes in to save his brother’s bar, and strips Tiff of all her management. And in some ways, degrading her abilities. So obviously, she lets him know just how unhappy she is with his existence. And it is glorious. They were the perfect enemies in the workplace match! But then one day, Sam saw her. Really looked at Tiff and saw her for who she is. And then he couldn’t look away. The situation that brought them to that moment broke my heart, but I’m glad Sam was there to keep her from falling. There to hold her until she could hold her own crown up. Of course they working truce didn’t last long. And when they started firing off complaints about each other back and forth, I started to count down the seconds until they ripped each other’s clothes off. (I didn’t count very high.) While they may have butt heads down in the bar, they found comfort, trust, and understanding perfectly upstairs in his apartment (and in his office). The slowburn enemies to lovers in the workplace was really just a disguise for all the dirty things to come! What’s so great about the book, is while it’s both sweet and spicy, it would have still been the exact same story without the A+ sex scenes! But those were absolutely a wonderful bonus!

My Favorite Quotes:
•’She was gunpowder, kerosene, and oxygen to my system.’
•”Do it, Sam. Take what you need.”
•”How do you feel about submission?” “Yours or mine?” “That is the right question.”
•”Are you going to give me what I want, Sam? Are you going to f!ck me into this desk until I come? Can you do that for me?”
•”Always so good. Needed this. Needed you.”
•”I’m trying to tell you I’m in love with you. Do you have to interrupt?”
•”Everything that I want, I want with you.”

7/10 Dirty Birdy
5/10 Enemies to Lovers
8/10 Workplace Romance

I got an ARC of Sex & Sours by Dani McLean from NetGalley last week. This is actually already released if you want to check it out. I got approved for it the day it was released so I’m a little late with my review. I just finished it today.
I had decided to read the first book in the series, Love & Rum, first because I like to read in order even if the books can be read stand alone. I definitely liked Sex & Sours the most of the two. I liked them well enough that I would read the next book when it comes out.
Anyway so this book, the main trope is enemies to lovers (we love), and Boss/Employee, great banter. Tiff is head bartender and manager at The Basement and the owner sells it to his brother Sam. Sam comes in and wants to take over and change things up and they immediately butt heads. The sexual tension between them happens fairly quickly and eventually they end up sleeping together and catching feelings. There is of course some conflict but we do get a happy ending.
I did not expect the spice in this! Like I mean I expected it would happen but it was 🔥 🚦 good. Pleasantly surprised. I also really appreciated that the heroine is bisexual and that bi erasure was discussed in the book. I actually liked both of the characters and thought they were funny and relatable.
Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to read this! I’ll definitely read any future releases from this author.

A strong-willed bartender contends with an inscrutable new boss who immediately gets on her bad side in this enemies to lovers romance.

This book is a quick, funny read with vividly drawn characters and a rare bisexual lead. Tiff and Sam have an engaging dynamic, and I bought into why they would initially be resentful of one another before giving into their attraction. I appreciated their frank discussion about their sexual interests and boundaries. I also appreciate that the book made a conscious effort to show biphobia, but it felt like a an issue that was raised and then almost immediately dropped. . Other than those issues, I think it is really important we see more bi leads in new adult romance books and I hope this helps pave the way for more authors.

Note - I received a digital arc of this book for free ; a courtesy of Book Sirens on the basis of which this review has been posted voluntarily. This is an honest opinion of mine. P.S. the post is a little long so do bear with it.

Rating - 5 stars

Disclaimer - This book contains strong language, sex scenes, mild kink and references to bi-erasure.

Before I elaborate further, I would really like to thank Book Sirens for a chance to review this book and author Dani Mclean for penning down such an amazing story.

So first stop - if you haven't read the 1st book in The cocktail series - Love and Rum, I would suggest all potential readers to do that. Yes this book can be read as a standalone, but it might give a better orientation of character growth and context, if the first book is read.

Moving on, if you have read my review about Love and rum, you would all know that I practically devoured and loved the book !! So it isn't a big surprise that I actually decided to read the second book in the series. For those who haven't read, Love and Rum features protagonists senior regional sales manager Audrey Adams and rising TV star Jackson Wards who get set up in a one - night stand arranged by Audrey's closest friend Tiffany which ends up becoming something more and real for the duo. Well Sex and Sours stars Tiffany in the centric role as she pilots her way through a turbulent atmosphere called life ; being conflicted between her goals for life and relationships - both personal and professional.

One word to describe the book - AMAZING !!!!

I fell in love with Audrey and Jackson during the first book but I wasn't so sure of Tiffany's character or whether I would like reading a book with Tiff at the centre role. But I absolutely loved the character growth and was totally able to understand her better now. The story takes off a couple of months post Love and Rum where in Tiff is juggling her work at the bar and in a casual relationship with Hannah whom she met by the end of first book. We also see Audrey and Jackson in the background moving on with their life and planning for a wedding along with some supporting characters from the first book too. All seems fine when two major developments happen in her life - the bar which Tiff was practically owning and in control of unofficially undergoes a change of ownership to a workaholic sexy Sam Cooper. A case of perfectionist straight workaholic man meeting a snarky bisexual woman with a total disregard for rules. So when the bickering between these polar opposites threaten to ruin the bar - the one common thing that the duo love - will they be able to call truce to save it and fall in love ? That' s the gist - A tale of enemies turning to frenemies to lovers. When they unite or not after addressing the various internal dilemmas they possess form the overall crux of the story.

The narrative is so fluid that I could practically envision the story like a Netflix romedy film in my head and I enjoyed it every bit. Infact both the books hold a Netflix Christmas movie potential. The characters are absolutely real and relatable. I loved how the characters of Tiffany and Sam were conceived and slowly built over the course of the story. Even better was how the cast of previous book were included in the story in a clean manner without overwhelming or seeming too forced. I absolutely appreciate how the author gave her leads certain quirks which translated over into being a root factor for certain actions and behaviors during conflicts in the story between the leads.

For the first time since the first book, I was able to relate to Tiffany on so many grounds - her confident aura, her no nonsense attitude, her acceptance of her gender and sexual orientation while not allowing others to fake or hide the same about her to others, her insecurities in trusting people and handing over the reins of her life to a special someone and so much more. Tiffany is indeed a strong lead - a bisexual who accepts her for who she is and that's what I truly loved about her the most. She truly represents modern women or at least how women should stand up for themselves in a male dominant society.

The entire book was written clear with no errors. Mild profanity is there and the sexual content isn't too descriptive or OTT. This is simply a fabulous multi time read for all those die hard romance fans aged 18+. I am really looking forward to reading more by Dani Mclean. Seriously looking forward to read the next one in this series !!

I received a copy from BookSiren in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, I really enjoyed Sex and Sours. It was a lovely quick rom-com read that was a much needed break from the fantasy that I normally read. The main characters really were made for each other. They push each other in good ways (like making the bar a better place) and also have banter that left me wanting more of it.

Pros: the banter. I love a snarky main character, but Tiff really takes the cake for me. She was incredibly witty and i loved that she is bisexual too (there's a whole scene where Sam describes her inability to sit in a chair properly and it's basically the truth). Another pro was the talk around likes/dislikes in the bedroom and the constant consent that both characters use throughout. It was very refreshing.

Cons: While the trigger warning was there about the biphobia, I wish the author had resolved those feelings a little better with Tiff. The heart to heart that her and Sam have over it felt a little lackluster.

I received this book as an ARC from NETGALLEY! Thank you!

"I was sick of having guys treat my bisexuality like a free pass for a threesome and girls treating it like a red flag. Some personal slight against their own choice because I was able to "pass" as straight if I was with a man, or like I was "just playing" around at being gay.

This book was a pleasure to read. A contemporary romance with a plot that can be described as "enemies to lovers" but in a realistic way.
The first chapters were a little bit boring but after a while the story became very interesting 😏

I appreciated the description of Tiffany's struggle with being accepted as a bisexual woman, we live in a biphobic society and that type of events happen quite often

So in conclusion I appreciated this book and I rate it 3 stars!

🌶🌶/ 5 Spice

This book took me awhile to get through. It is a good read, just not something that grabbed me.

I found our heroine was very strong but almost too aggressive where it didn’t feel real. Our hero was so sweet and I liked towards the middle we got a background on him. I felt his story was rushed towards the end and the conflict came fast and left even faster.

The author did an amazing job at Bi culture and talking about some of the struggles. This was one of the first bi heroines I’ve read about that’s not RH. I really enjoyed that and I love an enemies to lover. There was great spice.

The side characters are great and easy to follow along with and enjoy.

Overall the book was good and I think the right reader will really enjoy it!

I was given an ARC to give my honest review.

I feel like the title and the cover don't do the book justice. Yes, it's a steamy romance, but it's also so much more. I'm a sucker for a story about foodies, mixologists, sommeliers, etc. and this book didn't disappoint. I wanted to try the drinks that Tiff was creating and immerse myself in the story even more. This was the perfect recipe for a romantic comedy:

*enemies to lovers

*spitfire female protagonist

*told from both perspectives

*brooding, slightly grumpy boss

Besides the snarky dialogue there was plenty of depth & growth to the characters. I really enjoyed this one!

Content warning from the author: strong language, sex scenes, mild kink, and references to bi-erasure

This was the perfect enemies to lovers romance. I adored this book! I loved the characters, and the infectious banter.

Tiff has been running The Basement bar for the last few years, until Sam Cooper shows up as the new owner and is taking charge. Some may say Tiff is stubborn, and hates change but she’s strong willed and knows her strengths. What initially turns each away from the other, ultimately turns each onto the other. The bickering, the bantering and the sexual tension. They agree to work together with renovations, and menu changes. They quickly get to know each other and develop real feelings.

When the lines between work and play get blurred, Tiff and Sam soon have to face the consequences of their actions. Will they choose their separate careers, or can they have both?

The bar where Tiffany works is under new ownership. The new owner, Sam, has suffered a great loss and is now focused on making his new bar a success. Their work relationship starts off rocky, but they soon learn to work together in more ways then one.

I don’t know about you but this book made me want to have a cocktail. If you are into the bar scene, mixology or just love a good drink, you’ll want you read this book.

I did think that the book was a little long and it took me a bit to get into but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. The banter between the two main characters is fun and flirty. Tiffany is a strong and talented hard-working character. Sam is just as driven and passionate about what he does for a living. What I appreciated and most enjoyed about the two, was that their relationship wasn’t conventional. Both expressed openly their distain for marriage and kids. I found this to be a refreshing part of the book as now a days, it seems that happily ever after somehow can’t happen without the two.

,,Sometimes it just takes meeting the right person."

Tiffany Young is independent and brave woman who's not afraid to speak her mind. The bar that she works at is like her second home. She is passionate about her work and so grateful that she had a chance to improve on her workplace. Her life couldn't be more at peace. Until she meets her new boss...

Sam Cooper is coming back home after he had the worst year of his life. All he has left is his brother's bar. So, he is taking over it with pleasure. He thinks that working hard is going to take his mind off the things he escaped from. But there's one little problem, Tiffany. From the first moment he met her, he understood that she's more than just a little problem, but he is determined to not let anyone or anything get in his way.

But, when the competition is slowly trying to destroy the bar, they have to leave their fighting aside and save the place. They were both blinded by the new situation and couldn't see that they have a connection that's rare. But will having to work together be the magic hand that will uncover their feelings, or will they make their communication worse?

I adore how Dani can make magic with words. I loved her first novel, but I was not prepared for this one. Even though I liked the first book more, I am obsessed with this one. I was cracking up on the scenes with Tiffany in the first book and I thought, wow I would really like to read a book from her perspective, about her story. And she definitely didn't disappoint. Her passion for her work made me want to stop reading, go buy alcohol and make all the cocktails she was making. She is a unique character and I love Dani for telling her story.

The only problem I had with the book is that I didn't felt the connection between them, but that didn't stop me from enjoying in every single page. The humor is immaculate and the vibes are unmatchable.

Perfect summer read that you just can't put down and, trust me, you will remember the characters a long time after reading. Funny, emotional and super exciting story that made me happy in a way that just Dani can do.

Tiff and Sam hate each other before they even meet and butt heads from the start. But, they learn to respect each other's perspectives and soon enough these enemies have become lovers. This was a highly enjoyable read right from the start and only got better as we dug into their story and back stories. A fun read, focusing on two head strong characters as they learn to exist in each other's orbit. I loved Tiff's character, her strength and mettle shining through the pages.

I really liked that the narrative complication was not a big drawn out pile of ridiculousness as is wont to happen in most books of this genre.

There were a couple of editorial issues in the book, but for the most part it was well written, fast paced and engaging. 4 and a half worthy stars 🌟

Wow, what an interesting read! My first time reading a book by McLean and I must say I was thoroughly impressed at her writing skills. What a phenomenal author. I really enjoyed Sam a Tiffany’s story. Enemies to lovers are very enjoyable stories if done right and this was done exceptionally well. Tiffany had an interesting family dynamic. I wish we would have seen and met more of her family. We did meet Theo, her baby brother. Very interesting she’s bi and her baby brother is gay 🤷🏽‍♂️. Go figure. I didn’t expect that. Tiffany seemed like a girl that was very “worldly” 😂 before being captured and held down (no pun) 🤣😂🤫 by Sam and I’m glad she took to commitment well. Hannah was so annoying and I’m so glad we didn’t meet the very annoying pos KC. Oh man KC was a piece of work, it was very obvious she was in love with Hannah and she lived to throw wrenches in Tiffany’s relationship and Hannah had zero issues KC said, KC said. I hope she’s having a great time with that woman. They deserve each other in misery. Because only trash would undermine someone else’s relationship. Pierce, I won’t even talk about that bag of dog manure. This book had some fantastic world building, the chemistry between Sam and Tiffany was blazing hot 🥵. What started off as anger which you could tell there was some slight attraction just turned into a blazing inferno. I’m so happy I read this book. It was a joy to read. This grumpy bear 🐻 gave this book 5 cosmic stars 💥💥💥💥💥

Loved it

Captivated by the 1st chapter, I couldn't put this book down. I love a good enemies to lovers story and Tiff and Sam did not disappoint. This is the first book I've read from this author and I'll definitely be reading more of her work.

Thank you to Book Sirens for this ARC.

It's not often I'm so eager to write a review that even before finishing the book, I've summed up an opinion of it. A single attribute is not enough to make a book great. All of it comes into play. The plot, the storytelling, the language, the characters and even the relatability and/or fantastic elements all make up the general degree of how good or bad that book may be. Not all books hit all the nails on the head and many times if one aspect of these attributes are lacking, it takes away from the experience of the book as a whole. Sex & Sours was a whole lot of good and so much more.

It wasn't perfect but it spun a story that was entertaining and had you coming back for more. The love story was gritty and real and not so all-encompassing of the book that you felt like you needed a relief from all the love business. Because even though romance should be romantic, it's all in the name, as a reader you still hope for a refresher, a palate cleanser if you will. And this book had that in the whole business of it. By creating an adjacent story-line, the bar and the business elements, it gave the reader that craved reprieve.

I loved the enemy to lovers trope. Because even though their initial perception of one another annoyed me, their eventual love story eased into place almost fluidly. There was one minute they were fighting and then they decided they needed to be together. They had a real heartfelt moment that truly changed their perception of one another and that's where the reality of it all lies. For the reader it felt like a transition rather than a snap change of pace. It was a joy to see unfold.

I loved Tiffany. She is by far the most interesting character I've seen created in the books I've read. She's bold and unapologetic and crass in a way that didn't make you cringe. I loved her confidence. She embodies the phrase bad, boss bitch. More so, she's a golden person, conveying a message that you didn't need to be a "bitch" to be a bad boss bitch, you know. She's legit who I want to be when I grow up.

The thing that annoys me most is when a writer attaches these demure characteristics to characters, especially love interests, where there's this constant back and forth on whether they were into each other. It's frustrating when a character is made willfully ignorant to what's right in front of them. Tiffany and Sam didn't have this. Their love story was so refreshing. Because even though it started out as just a casual fling, it built into something deeper. And just like their transition from enemies to friends with benefits, it was fluid. Moreso, there was no toxicity. It was so nice to read a romance where the couple weren't being toxic as fuck.

The writing is so well done and I love that the sex scenes were just so. It's in the title so you expect it but it's not so much that it overwhelms the reader. Its just a healthy dose of sex, witty banter and my goodness Sam is so endearing. I love how McLean did a flip with the personalities of the two MCs. The man is usually bold while the female character is less so. But in this story Tiff is dominant and Sam loves it. It was just such a change of pace and I thoroughly enjoyed that.

The ending fell a bit flat for me and that's why I didn't give it five stars but still, a solid read.
