Intrigue and Betrayal

This review is for Burned by Simone Leigh. This is a fast-paced read with a mystery to solve. I love that Larry fully immerses himself into the problem at hand but takes every opportunity to check in with Mitch. If you're familiar with these characters from earlier works, you know this is a BIG step for him as he continues to grow and change his ways. ☎👍💋

I also LOVE that Mitch and Larry find chances to slow down and enjoy each other in sensual, loving expressions of affection and adoration. Being an older couple doesn't slow them down. ❤🔥❤

As for that mystery, Larry and Hickman are on the case! I appreciate how they can't completely walk away, even when things appear to be resolved. What happens may not be entirely surprising but it is exciting to watch it all play out!

This can be read as a standalone from the other Charlotte/Jenny books that precede it. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Review for "Ryan's Temptation" by Amber Daulton:
This is an entertaining, steamy, fast paced, romantic suspense novella. It has a brave female protagonist, a hot, caring, physician male protagonist, intrigue, family drama, and a happily ever after ending. This is the third entry in Ms. Daulton's outstanding Arresting Onyx series, and can easily be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. I am looking forward to reading the other entries in this anthology with great anticipation. Ms. Daulton kindly provided me with an ARC of her novella, and this is my honest review.

I was given an ARC of 'Burned' by Simone Leigh and I have to tell you, Klempner, as evil as his actions were in the beginning, has always found a spot in my heart hoping for redemption. I'm amazed and thrilled how much this character has grown and developed into what is truly, in my opinion, a hero …. Even if he does have a few rough edges. I know, without a doubt, when I pick up a book by Ms. Leigh, she will take me on such a journey that it will keep me glued to the pages from beginning to end, and 'Burned' is no exception. With fifteen stories in this anthology, I'm sure with Ms. Leigh being one of those represented this has got to be epic and I can't wait to read the rest of the stories.

RYAN’S TEMPTATION BY AMBER DAULTON

CHANEL, RYAN, AND A KILLER

The story is part of the Arresting Onyx Series by Amber Daulton but will read well as a stand-alone. The two main characters will be beautician Chanel Leroc and Dr. Ryan Naylor. The story will have Chanel at the wrong place, wrong time, and now in the sites of a serial killer, dubbed the Streetwalker Killer. The story has secrets, mystery, suspense, life and death danger, murder, attempted murder, and two witnesses becoming fugitives to survive.

The story’s plot will have Chanel Leroc hearing a woman crying for help, and she goes to see what is happening and witnesses a man kill her. The assailant escapes with Chanel’s purse, giving him her address. But now, Chanel has seen his face, and he can’t leave a witness alive. What saves Chael will be Dr. Ryan Naylor, and his coworkers coming to her aid.

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. Chanel will survive one attack only to arrive home and come face to face with the deranged killer again—Ryan will hear her scream and come busting into her apartment and will save her life. Now, the police are involved—they are putting both of them in protective custody while they try and catch a killer. Only that doesn’t work out, and they are on the run—without protection. Is there a mole within the police force? Who can they trust?

The story will have Chanel and Ryan on the run, and they must keep a low profile since their pictures are now plastered on the news as if they are criminals. With the assistance of a few friends, they find a place to hide, where they feel they can be safe. But for how long? Both of them have put their lives and careers on hold, and a killer is still on the loose.

I loved the story and how Chanel and Ryan rely on each other, learning to trust one another and do everything they can to protect their friends and family. The downside is not telling friends and family where they are. The chemistry between these two sizzles, and eventually, it will change to physical. The story does include intimate scenes and does have a happy ending.

Paying it Forward
Do past actions have a bit of control over you for the rest of your life? Well, Larry is being thrown into a sticky situation that has “The Past” written all over it but he doesn’t turn and run. Fighting takes on many forms and Larry is going to need to bring his A game to the front for this one. As the family tries to support him, Larry learns some valuable lessons and hopefully he will not need to use those lessons anytime soon. This is a quick read that shows a side of Larry that will make the reader look hard at his new persona. Great addition to the series even though it’s going in a different direction.

I read an ARC copy of “Ryan’s Temptation” by Amber Daulton. This book will grab your attention til the very end! Wonderfully written, characters are believable and relatable. I have not yet read the two stories before this one and that’s ok. This story brings the previous characters into this story but not in such a way that the reader becomes lost.

Part of the Arresting Onyx Series.

I was honoured to be approached by the authoress as part of her ARC to receive a copy of the book for an honest review. I read it in one sitting, it was an easy read and a standalone romantic suspense novella in the 'Arresting Onyx" series.

The central characters are Chanel and Dr Ryan. Chanel witnesses a murder and Dr Ryan saves her but the serial killer gets away with her wallet containing her address. Chanel and Dr Ryan end up in witness protection but that doesn't work out. They decide to go it alone, with a serial killer in pursuit and someone helping him, as there was a leak from the inside.

What gives the story weight is that this is their story, we see romance bud and take root. It is full of suspense which gives the story pace, all of which is further enhanced by how she builds and develops her characters. Daulton's speciality is her character descriptions, they carry the plot. Her character portrayal of the serial killer was very interesting including how it he had help to cover it up his crime and again this shows how she develops her characters throughout the story.

If you are wanting an easy to read romance, with a deeper plot to the storyline and a HEA then this is a book for you and won't disappoint!

This review is on 'Burned' by Simone Leigh. I really enjoyed this book. I learned about Klempner is Simone Leigh's books about Charlotte and Jenny. At first I did not like him very much but in these later stories Simone has let him grow and act like a more lovable character. I really appreciated how Mitch and Larry got some time to enjoy each others company in the book while Larry also had to try to solve a situation. This book was steamy and left me anticipating what was going to happen, like all of Simone's books so far. I absolutely love the characters of these stories about Charlotte and Jenny and am happy that Larry is finally showing some changes.

What a scary thought. In Burned Larry is one of the good guys. He is the perfect villain with his dubious background and his skill and penchant for trouble. I think it makes perfect sense as he delved so deeply into the depraved that he turned so hard the opposite way. I love his humanness when his past behaviors come back and make him question himself.

Ryan's Temptation by Amber Daulton

An ordinary day is suddenly changed after witnessing a depraved man in the midst of his crime. Chanel and Ryan are now in the crosshairs of a depraved man, determined to silence them permanently. Events lead them to realise that even the police may not be able tp protect them. While trying to stay one step ahead of danger, the two find themselves exploring their attraction and growing emotions. An entertaining story.

"Fiery Secrets" by K. M. Taylor had me hooked from the first page. It got right in to the nitty gritty of what any romance book can be about. This novella starts out with a firefighter named Kamryn Todd and she is looking for a job back home so she can take care of her uncle. Once she gets back home she runs into this guy, Adrien Coleman and then things take off from there.

I truly loved how this book brought in a woman to a profession that not many women are in. It made me look at jobs a little bit differently after reading this. I also really enjoyed how relatable the story was in the beginning. The end of the book made me wonder how well we really know people when we first meet them and how dangerous the world can be.

I definitely was surprised by the twist at the end of the book. You should really read this book if you love twists. I was not expecting to find out what we did at the end and how it all played out. I want to give a big shout out to Taylor for making this book so great and allowing us to enjoy the twists without giving anything away in the beginning.

This novella does have adult content in it so be aware before you read it. The adult scenes where done very well and left a lot open to the mind which made it that much more fun to read.

I definitely rate this novella a 5/5 stars. I think everyone should read it. This novella is a part of the anthology "Into the Fire" by Stephanie Morris and other authors.

I received an ARC of this novella for an honest review.

Burned...

This is yet another excellent read from author Simone Leigh. This book was easily followed if you have not read any of her previous books that included the characters of Larry Klempner and (Mr) Hickman. But if you were wanting to get the whole picture on their background stories I would highly recommend reading earlier works.

In this story, Burned, we get to see Larry Klempner reunited with one of his associates Hickman and helping out an old business acquaintance in a rather difficult position. But in a typical Mafia inspired storyline you will know it won't be an easy thing with enough tangled webs to throw the reader into some serious problem solving. I love the characters of Larry and Hickman and their sheer loyalty to one another and it is great to see how the character of Larry Klempner has totally changed from the love of his new life's direction.

If you enjoy reading about Mafia inspired stories, revenge, throw in some 'cloak and dagger' moments and some truly heated romance then you won't be disappointed in this tale by Simone.

This review is for My Witness, My Life by Lisa Wood

Harley’s life unexpectedly changed after overhearing her boss on the phone with a monster. She has multiple attempts on her life and barely escapes to the FBI.

Jace is a cranky Marshall who isn’t excited to be protecting a Gen Z woman. He expects her yo be a spoiled and obnoxious brat only to be shocked to discover she’s a tough take no nonsense woman who quickly puts him in his place.

The danger doesn’t let up as they try to stay hidden and out of sight, but they barely keep themselves out of the hands of the men out to kill Harley.

The adrenaline rush and nonstop danger adds to the sexual chemistry between Jace and Harley until it becomes impossible to resist each other.

A quick, fast paced read with plenty of suspense. Who can they trust and will Harley live to testify?

Simone Leigh's latest story gives us a glimpse into the new life of a former bad guy in the long-running saga of Charlotte, James and Michael in the Buying the Virgin Series. Larry is Charlotte's father, now back together with her mother. However, he still knows people in the underworld, and when someone calls for help when a young woman goes missing, his skills are just right for the job. It is interesting to see how he works and figures out what is going on without breaking his resolve to stay clean. Nicely written, this book could stand alone as a short mystery, but it is better if you know something about the characters.

In the Simone Leigh offering of Burned, Larry Klempner has settled in at the guest house of James, Michael and Charlotte with his wife Mitch and his baby girl...but he's been restless...so while in town, sees an old acquaintance, Mickey Murphy...they were talking when a noted casino owner's men came to find Larry. It seems Vince's daughter was taken...kidnapped...while with her husband, who was beaten and tied up...since Larry knew of the flesh trade from his previous occupation, he agreed to help...but it seems all is not as it seems with this kidnapping of a gangster's daughter, Isabella...but you will need to read this juicy tale to see what happens...I received a free copy of this story via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Review for "Ryan's Temptation" by Amber Daulton

Chantel is walking down the street and she hears someone scream, she cannot just walk away. She sees a man and a woman, the man stabs the woman, when he sees her, he comes after her. She is in trouble, she screams which brings Dr. Ryan Naylor to her rescue, the man runs off with her purse. The killer tracks her down to her apartment, and Ryan comes to her rescue again.

The police put them both in witness protection but they are found and on the run. The story is fast paced, the two character have such chemistry. This is my first story from the author and look forward to more.

This is a story by Simone Leigh called Burned. Charlotte was pregnant with Michael’s baby but she then had a miscarriage. She’s heart broken as they had wanted the baby. But will she be okay even though her family is around her and want to be there for her any way they can. Will she fall into a depression or finally get back to herself again? I read My Witness My Life by Lisa Wood which is a great story of a young woman that over hears something that will change her life. She has to have a Marshall signed to her as she’s a top witness for the Government but he finds that there’s a mole in his department and now they are on the run!

Klemptner’s past in trafficking, a life of danger, is something he walked away from so he could live a normal life. To marry a women he fell in love with and become a father to his unborn child.

An old acquaintance has surfaced requesting Klemptner’s assistance that involved all the knowledge he knew so well from his past. Klemptner could walk away but he also knew he was the one man that could help. Does he walk away or does he get involved this one time knowing he could make a difference. Someone always gets hurt in a life of crime? But who will it be?

This series has been full of suspense, passion and lots of action. It’s a great series to read!

While "Burned" by Simone Leigh fits seamlessly into the "Lover's Children" series, it works just as well as a standalone story as it is focused on our favourite reformed villain, Charlotte's father. His past rears its ugly head when he's assumed to be behind the abduction of an acquaintance's daughter, and with Charlotte's own recent kidnapping still fresh in his mind he agrees to help find the missing girl. It's a fascinating glimpse into the mind of the man still working his way back from the dark side and earning trust as he goes.

This is a collection of stories with a romantic suspense theme. Each of the stories is by a different author with different characters and situations, so you get plenty of variety. The stories are all well written and easy to read which is always a pleasure. I found a few authors I was well acquainted with (like Simone Leigh and her story "Burned") as well as several new ones which gave me a great opportunity to explore. It also gave me new authors to look for in the future. Overall, a great collection of stories.

Highly recommended

Burned by Simone Leigh

This review is for Burned by Simone Leigh. This is a short story that is "adjacent" to the world of Charlotte, James and Micheal (their story started in Buying the Virgin and just keeps on going several years later) as it centers around Klempner, who is Charlotte's father. Klempner was not a nice character if you have read the other series but he ended up making some major changes over the books. In this story he is putting his bad past to good use and it is a fast pace and entertaining read.

I loved this book. This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I have picked up by her. The combination of her writing skills and her attention to details make her stories realistic. This book is no different. I was pulled into the story from the beginning. The characters are not only steamy but also relateable. I enjoyed what they brought to the story as well as made it entertaining to read. This is a fast paced story that is engaging and is hard to put down. This is a must read and a great story. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Burned: Simone Leigh This story was a great break away from the usual story of the Triad and their family. Larry was called to help an associate with from his daughter who had been kidnapped. The story has so many twists and turns that keep you guessing who actually kidnaps the girl. This story gives you a different side of Larry and Mitch and their relationship together. I enjoyed this book!! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's.

Burned By Simone Leigh
I didn't know what to expect when I started to read this story. I wasn't disappointed though. While it only had Mitch and Larry in it and had nothing to do with the original storyline, it still had all the excitement I have come to expect from these stories. It also gave me a better look into Larry and I like him even more.

This review is for BURNED by Simone Leigh. Loved this book! It has thrills, it has Mitch and it’s got Larry. I think it’s the greatest idea to give Klempner something interesting to do and this was it. I think he needs more assignments like this. Also, we.hang out with Hickman, so it’s all good. I would love to see this develop into a series!

Will Larry ever be able to leave his past behind?
I am so hooked on this series and Larry’s character has the most hidden gems to discover. Larry’s past hijacks him to a current situation with a past associate that feels all sorts of wrong. So who is the real villain, Larry is working against the clock to figure this caper out and stay true to himself for Mitch and his family. I could not put this book down until I turned the last page!
