Seville—the home of tapas, flamenco, and … murder?
Tour guide Lana Hansen is finally leading a trip to Spain—and during Easter week, no less! To top it off, she is a speaker at a prestigious travel and tourism expo taking place in Seville during the tour. Luckily, her clients—all influential travel bloggers and writers—are also attending the trade show.
Lana is excited to speak at the conference … that is, until Chet Rogers—an eminent travel writer being honored at the expo—publicly humiliates her and several of her guests.
When Chet is killed during a workshop soon after, Lana is one of the Spanish police’s prime suspects. But she is not the only one in her group who would rather see Chet out of the picture—permanently.
Can Lana sleuth out the killer’s true identity and dance her way out of a jail sentence before her group’s tour to Seville is over?
Hi! I am an American expat currently living in Amsterdam. After traveling extensively around Asia, Oceania, and Central America, I moved to Darwin, Australia, before finally settling in the Netherlands. When not writing, you can find me in a museum, biking around Amsterdam, or enjoying a coffee along the canal while planning my next research trip.
My love of travel, art, and culture inspires my award-winning Zelda Richardson Art Mystery series, Travel Can Be Murder Cozy Mysteries, and Carmen De Luca Art Sleuth Mysteries.
Lana Hansen is in Seville, Spain to take part in a panel at a tourism expo along with several others in the traveling field. She is clearly the newbie in the group but it excited to be included. She is a bit nervous about meeting Chet Rogers, a man being honored at the event for his long years of service to the travel industry but his latest published piece smearing her and all the other panelists has made him a very unpopular man.
Happy to have a little fun, the group attends a flamenco dancing workshop complete with dancing lessons in costumes. Chet complained about everything but soon after the workshop ended Chet’s rancor came to an abrupt halt when the lights went out. When the lights came back on a very dead Chet was revealed. His body was surrounded by a room full of suspects including Lana.
Lana had hoped for a trip without any deaths but here she goes again. Time to sleuth out another killer to keep herself from dancing her way right into a jail cell.
To travel virtually with Lana is such a good time. Thanks to the beautiful details the author gives us about each place Lana’s visits comes alive. I felt like a butterfly on Lana’s shoulder throughout the entire story seeing monuments, cathedrals, and courtyards. I was delighted to read about the fabulous places I will never see in real life.
Lana is a wonderful tour guide who yes, might be a “magnet for murders” but it truly isn’t her fault. She is genuine, patient, kind, and attentive to the needs of her clients. She knows how to keep her ears open and ask the right questions making her a fine amateur sleuth. I enjoy the way she and Randy work together but he will be taking a new job soon. Their Spain adventure is one they will never forget.
Ms. Alderson penned a very entertaining mystery set in a place I have always wanted to visit. My 7th Wanderlust Tour is in the books. Death by Flamenco is a terrific addition to this series.
The beauties of Spain are marred by the death of an arrogant travel writer. Clashing with new style bloggers and vlogggers, Chet made himself a target for someone. Lana finds herself in the middle of the investigation once again. The descriptions of Spain make me wish I could visit soon
These books are super enjoyable. Lana is taking her Waderlust Tour Group to Sevile, Spain.. This is not one of her usual tour groups, but a group of panelists that will be attending and speaking at a travel bloggers convention. Lana is a budding blogist and has been asked last minute to fill a panelist spot. In addition to her travel group there is a particularly nasty man named Chet Rogers. Chet seems intent on disrespecting everyone else in the panel. Every chance he gets, he is putting someone down, or making fun of their site.
There is no shortage of suspects when Chet ends up dead at a Flamenco dance class they are all taking. The police have taken their passports and the group must stay in the country while the police fry to find the killer.
This is another great addition to the series. Lana and Randy work so well together. I am curious as to how the next book is going to go with the expected changes in Wanderlust tours.
Lana's tour of southern Spain is supposed to follow a blogger/travel writers' convention. Bloggers seem to be badmouthing one another due to personality difficulties/jealousy. Chet, an especially difficult person, dies from being stabbed during a blackout by Lana'a sharp hairpiece following a flamenco lesson. Could the killer be one of the other bloggers? Nice descriptions of the sights in southern Spain.
I always enjoy a good cozy murder mystery, and Jennifer S Alderson's are among my favourites. Lana hosts a group of travel bloggers and writers on a tour of Andalusia, however, sadly things don't go to plan. The author's descriptions of Seville and other locations are so vivid that the reader is transported there along with the characters. Highly recommended for lovers of this genre; I can't wait for the next one.
I was thrilled to discover this new to me author and this fun series. I enjoyed the murder mystery as well as hearing about all the interesting places the tour is visiting. I like the tour guide Lana Anderson a lot. She’s genuine. Her friends and tour clients are fun and quirky. I highly recommend this book and the series. It is always a challenge for me to solve a mystery and this was also one I couldn’t figure out.
Jennifer S. Alderson never disappoints in her Travel Mysteries. There are always a lot of surprises and suspects. The characters are very unique and fun. The travel descriptions are always in great detail, so you feel like you are there on the tour. The mysteries are amazing and I never know who the murderer is until the end. Now I wait for number eight.
7th book in the Travel Can Be Murder series finds Lana leading a tour in Seville, Spain. There for a travel Conference, her guests all have secrets and when an unpopular member of their tour is murdered, Lana must figure out who did it.
Jennifer Alderson has mad skills in writing detailed word pictures that make locations come alive. In this volume there is a murder for which there is a small number of suspects, all of whom had motive for murder.
This is a good series. I like the great descriptions of the sites visited on the tours. I like Lana and the other characters in the books. I didn’t guess the murderer, so that’s a plus.
This was the worst of the series. I disliked all the characters except the repeaters. Lana was annoying and whiny. The story was boring and I don’t care about blogging or vlogging.
These books have woken up my travel bug, love the descriptions of where she goes. Enjoyed the story, the mystery and the characters. Recommend reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Death by Flamenco by Jennifer S. Alderson is about greed and distrust sandwiched between the beautiful sights of Spain and a travel industry conference.
Will Lana figure out who killed Chet so they can all get their passports back?
Lana and Randy guide a group of famous travel bloggers, vloggers, and travel writers in Spain.
Chet Rogers has been honored for 30 years in the industry. However, going from printed guidebooks to blogs and videos isn't easy to do. Chet is not a nice man. He has cheated and stomped his way to where he is and refuses to allow the new generation to step up and claim his audience. At the last event of the travel convention, Chet is murdered, and Lana's group is front and center as the suspects.
Lana is out to find the culprit, hoping it isn't one of her tour occupants. I like Lana, but wow, I am not sure she should be guiding tours anymore. In this installment, she thinks she may be an angel of death. Or rather, she and Randy together are. She is a great character. She has come into her own since the beginning. I hope she has found love with Alex, even though he isn't in the picture much. Four Stars My rating for Death by Flamenco by Jennifer S. Alderson is four stars. I love how Ms. Alderson describes the settings and sights of the book. I felt like I was in Spain for the Sema Santa (Easter) celebration.
Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of Death by Flamenco by Jennifer S. Alderson. Check out the other stops and giveaway if you have time.
