I’m a catastrophe waiting to happen—I always have been.
When a waterspout drops me on the shores of a seemingly deserted island, I soon realize that I’m not on Earth and I’m not alone.
This new world is full of dangers, from sea monsters and feuding tribes to poisonous food and beasts that lurk in the shadows. None of those things are as dangerous as the Mongrel men appointed to guard and teach me.
All I want to do is go home, but the island has no intentions of letting me leave.
I’ll be forced to interact with total strangers to survive this perilous land surrounded by treacherous waters.
My dreams of happiness sink into the dark depths below as I struggle to save myself from certain death.
The Mongrels will learn that fear makes a person reckless.
My name is Adelaide Storm.
But they’ll call me Ada Stormbrave.

For the Strange and Surprising was a lighter, slow burn read that had me smiling constantly. Ada, the FMC, is a delight to read with her relatability, sense of humor, and curiosity. She's also strong, but not in an in-your-face way. I wondered through the whole book what I would do if I ended up in her shoes and was thrown into a strange world and I can promise that I'd deal with it all with much less grace and humor than Ada did. The story is multi-POV with a fantastic set-up of the world while also laying breadcrumbs and questions for the rest of the series.
We meet four main guys in this first book and I think they're each perfect for Ada. Even the one she constantly bickers with and I hope that once they get on the right wavelength that the banter remains between them. Ada has basic information on the guys (as do we) and all of the guys are a pre-established friend group. Some of the possible deeper connections and development between Ada and the guys was held up by a decision she had to make and I expect that we'll get deeper into their characters and relationships in the next books. But the chemistry and tension (oh the tension) is a nice foundation already.
There are a lot of unknowns happening in this new fantasy world so I also expect Ada and the guys will be exploring and navigating some mysteries together. There are attacks on the tribe, a possible traitor, mysterious beasts, and who knows what else cause it's a strange new world! Ada also has a nicely developing female friendship so yay for that! No other woman drama and no mm/ff in this first book. No cliffhanger ending, just more story to unravel. This was an easy decision to add book 2 to my TBR and I'm curious how the greater series will connect since this is the first trilogy in a larger series to come (there are breadcrumbs for future FMCs I'm assuming).
The first series (first book) that M.F. Adele wrote, The Chronicles of Sloane King, has become one of my favorites so when the Where They Are series was announced I knew I was in. For the Strange and Surprising is the first book in that, it was amazeballs and I want more. The story follows Adelaide "Ada" Storm as she is swept away to a whole new world and meets a bunch of handsome mongrels.
I don't know why Adele named the tribe mongrel I don't get it and that is one of the confusing things in this book but I feel the story is meant to be confusing to keeps the readers on their toes. This is a multiple point-of-view slow burn paranormal reverse harem so we get the story from different angles and while I know something is going on (mysterious tribes, weird beasts, things not adding up) I still can't place what. I have some major questions and so does Ada. She's obviously meant for something I'm just not sure what.
Adele has done a fabulous job describing Spiran (the world Ada goes to), the descriptions are so lush I can't help but picture a weird but vivid jungle with exotic flowers, huge bugs, and beautiful water. However, things get tricky when we talk about animal descriptions including the beast that roam the island. The description of the beasts freak me out, they seem like a weird mix of animal with some human details, it's odd and not in a good way. The blending of some of Earth's advancement (familiar things) and the native island life is great, I never know what they have or don't have, or if they understand some of the terminologies that Ada uses or not, it not only adds a little subtle complexity to the story but it's entertaining to see Ada figure it out.
The characters are the best. Ada is so complex, on Earth she has lost everyone and she wasn't a people person, she was kinda going through the motions but on Spiran Ada is opening up to people discovering new things, figuring out how things work, trying to be helpful, and so much more. She's making connections with people like Rinya and even the queen, Isolde, is becoming a mentor type. She's building a life without realizing it and she has four hot guys by her side.
First, there is Talodus, who Ada gets along with right away, the banter between them is so adorably playful even if it's full of double meaning. Then there is flirtatious Connak, whose happiness is contagious and likes a little adventure. There is Imryll who is caring and doesn't open up easily but does so with Ada and she can talk with him in return. Finally, there is Ecaeris, who is a jerk but still a good guy, but he and Ada kinda antagonize each other, their verbal sparing is entertaining and I'm pretty sure it's leading to a steamy relationship but I can say that about all the guys.
For the Strange and Surprising was an excellent start to the series. I loved the world with its jumbo creatures, interesting elemental powers, hot guys, and the mischievous queen. The story is very interesting, I have no idea where things are going and that just makes me want to have more. I am excitedly awaiting the next book in the series.
I honestly didnt know what to expect from this book? Strange and surprising pretty much sums up this book but in a good way.
Ada is like a modern day version of Dorothy landing in OZ. Being completely out of her element in a strange new world when shes washed up in a hostile place. Well theres not hostility from everyone only Prince Ecaeris but their banter is quite funny. The other guys - Talodus, Illryll and Connak are sweet and funny. Its hard not to like Ada too. Shes in a new world but it doesnt seem to stop her strong will, sass and sarcasm. Its actually a cracking start to this series and i really enjoyed reading it
I wasn't sure how this book would go, but I'm so glad I picked it up. The characters and storyline pulled me in so quick. Ada was such a strong character who finds herself waking on an island after being in a storm and nearly drowning. She meets the queen and things get crazy and twisty. Plus when she meets Ecaeris, Talodus, Imryll and Connak this makes for an interesting read. Also you can read from each guys pov giving you so much more. Totally can't wait for the next book after that ending
This is a slow burn, slow build fantasy reverse harem story, told in Multi-POV, with incredible world building, fantastic characters, light but plentiful humor, discovering the magic of the world and uncovering its many secrets.
I absolutely love the FMC Ada. She's got that understated badass vibe. The story is written in a way that leaves me wondering what I would do in Ada's shoes, swept up onto an island of another world and discovering all of the things she is. I'd love want some fng pants and pockets, that's for sure - there's a lot where I'd follow Ada's path. I love the adventure of the story and the slow build relationships with the guys.
This is book 1 of a planned trilogy. The ending leaves you eager for more, but not a hard cliffy.
Ada was fishing in her father's boat when she is caught in a storm. When she manages to swim to shore, she finds herself in a strange new world with strange beings. As Ada makes her way around, she finds herself in the attention of the prince Ecaeris, his friends Talodus and Connak. She's strange and not to be trusted, but is something worse coming their way?
I loved the world building with this story. We get a place similar to Earth, but with its own mythology and creatures. But not only do we get a new world, we have crossovers from Earth to this new world. People other than Ada have been pulled from Earth to this place, so it was unique to have that aspect to the story, instead of it just being a random occurrence for the main character.
I wish that there was more of a love interest in this first book. We have the tension and the build up to having a reverse harem, but there is nothing! There's one kiss that was used as a cover up, and that's it. I would've loved to see something progress with one of the characters a little more.
For the Strange and Surprising: Where the Mongrels Are by M.F. Adele
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The story doesn't match up to the blurb! The blurb is a much better story. And I'm wondering if the blurb is describing the series as a whole, and not just this book because they really don't match, it’s more as if the book is brushing over the blurb. Don't get me wrong, the book has potential, but for the 201 pages, it only vaguely introduces the world, characters, issues, and if another 100-200 pages were interwoven into this one, it would be a complete story, not the outline this is. There were a few funnies, and I did towards the end start to like the characters, but it was hard to tell the difference between them. First-person point of view is ok, but when there are 4 different 1st person points within the story, they start blurring together unless the characters are very well developed, and these weren’t, but at least they were separated by chapters. And unlike the blurb stated, it was 3 male 1 female, not 4 female characters.
I cannot give this book any more than 2 stars.
And now for the 'trigger' warnings. If you need these warnings, you shouldn't be reading in the first place. Lock yourself in a little room and hide from the world.... Stop ruining life for those who want to live. Authors, please don't ruin the story by giving away the plot and events by announcing these ‘triggers’. I have passed on books because the 'trigger warnings' were spoilers, so I had no reason to read the book!
This was the 1st book I have read by this author and I wasn't sure if I was going to like it only because of the synopsis and others reviews. But as I began to read I quickly found that there was more to this book than what I 1st thought, it was very interesting and really drew me in. The writing style was very well written and easy to follow and I really enjoyed the characters of Ada and the men. This book has given me a mystery that I need to find so I will be moving on to the next one quickly to find out to find out why Ada was brought to the island to the island and what is her purpose And also to see if she's gonna get with some of those very hot native men.
Ughhhhh. This is just so good. So different from what I anticipated and what MF Adele has written before.
The story was intriguing and you fall in love with Adelaide as a main character. I loved the men too. Especially Connak. Though the burn is slow and the tension is HIGH.
I love Rinya and Isolde. Magnificent and strong side characters.
I am so excited to follow Ada's journey and the other women's stories through the Where They Are series beyond Where the Mongrels Are.
Odd book, and that has nothing to do with the world building. The real issue is how juvenile everyone is acting, how juvenile the writing is. We meet ada who somehow lands in a new world, she meets the queen and everything with the queen is mysterious and unanswered. Its annoying the little game that's being played " ur not ready for the truth" its to much to understand yet". They also might have bad ppl among themselves, yet the Prince goes out his way to say its ada, while most of the characters we run into are lying? These ppl are a mess. I like how the queen doesn't tell Ada a damn thing but insist she learn to Train/fight/defend herself right away? like What? yeah because that's not strange at all. Instead of getting to know these new ppl and their ways, history? How earth ppl have come there? Its just sassy flirting And Sexual innuendos throughout the whole book. There is so much mystery about everything and no answers to squat! And the ending? Nothing like adding more mystery on a cliffy. Really a complete let down.
A really good first installment of a new fantasy romance. It’s definitely a slow-burn rh, but has all the world building I love so much. Can’t wait to dive into the next one!

For the Strange and Surprising is the 1st book in the Where the Mongrels Are Series by M.F. Adele.
This was the first book by M.F. Adele that I’ve read and I have to say that I absolutely fell in love with it. The twist that she put on Where the Wild Things Are really caught my attention and refused to let go. It’s not often that you’ll see an author loosely retell a story that isn’t a major fairy tale or folklore, so for the first time reading a book by M.F. Adele take Where the Wild Things Are, create her own characters and a whole new world, I have to say this was truly a pleasure.
And I have to say that M.F. Adele did a stunning job in creating this world, it was truly unbelievable. And the way she describes the characters she’s created and all their surroundings, it makes you feel like you are right there and you can almost reach out and touch the characters and their surroundings for yourself. I honestly felt like I was Adelaide and I was living her experience’s and I could touch what was surrounding her.
Adelaide makes connections with people like Rinya and Isolde; the Queen and we watch as Adelaide becomes a type of mentor. And slowly we watch as Adelaide starts to build a new life in Spiran without even really realizing it and she has these four hot guys standing by her side.
Adelaide is so delightful and she’s so easy to read. I loved her sense of humor and her curiosity. She has this inner strength that’s not all in your face, but is quiet. She also has an intelligence about her that helps to keep her grounded and in a lot of ways, her intelligence helps to keep her alive.
Adelaide handled ending up on this strange and new island with such grace and humor. I know that if I had been in her shoes, I wouldn’t have been as calm, cool, collected, graceful, and full of humor the way that Adelaide was.
First, we have Talodus. He’s the one who Adelaide gets along with right from the start. I loved the banter between the two of them. It’s so adorable and playful, even if it’s full of these double meanings.
Connak is next. His happiness is nothing short of contagious and Connak likes a little adventure in his life.
Imryll is 3rd. Imryll is kind and caring but he’s not one to open up easily. But it seems that Adelaide is the exception and with her Imryll can easily open up and talk to her and she just as easily opens up and talks to him in return.
And then finally we come to Ecaeris. He’s kind of a jerk but honestly, he’s still a good guy, even though he tends to butt heads with Adelaide and they antagonize each other. I actually found their verbal sparing to be entertaining and I can see it leading to a very spicy relationship in the future. But, then again, I can say and see that with all four guys.
And one of the things that I loved about the world that Adele created was how different it was from the world we have here on Earth. It was still so primitive in so many ways, and yet it still had the main things that you need in order to survive, thrive, and enjoy your life.
I really did find the inhabitants of Spiran to be rather similar to us here on Earth, and yet they were different, they could wield the abilities of the elements. It was interesting to see how each are of Spiran focused on a different element (earth, fire, water, and air). So, while there were some similarities that allowed you to forget at times that you were reading about a different world, the abilities of those inhabitants of Spiran who controlled the elements reminded you that you were in fact reading about a different world as they showed up more and more often as you read through the book.
I loved all the mystery and suspense. All the attacks from the different beasts and shades, and even the apparent stalker, the grey mist just seems like so much all at once, and it is honestly. But I feel as though that this is just the start of all the mayhem to come in this series. I feel like there is so much more drama going on under the surface and I am just dying to know what’s coming and everything that’s simmering under the surface. I found that even the island itself is a cryptogram in my mind, everything that this island is capable of doing, it’s just mindboggling.
The island appears to be sentient in so many ways; it just never ceases to amaze me how an island can manipulate things and people in a way that would be most beneficial to the island itself. It’s amazing to see how the island can decide for itself what it needed, what it took, and what it made happen itself. I’m really wondering what this island is going to do next.
Even though For the Strange and Surprising is a slow burn, M.F. Adele still ensured this book provided what I was longing for while I reading this book. I found myself so focused on the storyline, the plot and the subplot and I was searching for the problems that I didn’t even miss the spicy scenes that I’d normally want. Plus, the tension, the chemistry, and attraction is absolutely there and I know that there’s going to be no holding back between Adelaide and the guys in the books to come based on the way this first book ended.
I’ll admit that I still have so many questions after reading this book. Every time I think I’ve got a grasp on everything the books thrown at me, another twist throws me for a loop. I really hope that some of the questions I have get answered in the next book.
I highly recommend this book. I really enjoyed M.F. Adele’s retelling of Where the Wild Things Are and I can’t wait to dive into book 2 and find out what that book has in store for me.
Ada is 22 and has lost everyone that means anything to her. As she goes fishing to be close to those she lost a storm moves in fast and she is sucked into a waterspout. On the other side she finds that she is no longer on Earth and is now on a new planet with tribes. She has four protectors as she navigates this new world and new magic. I really enjoyed the story and characters. The writing style started off a bit rough for me but I soon got into it and I actually like the many different POV chapters. I will definitely be waiting to read the next two books in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in return for an honest review.
For the Strange and Surprising is much different than what I'm used to reading from M.F. Adele, but I have to say that I loved it!! The slight twist on Where the Wild Things Are definitely piqued my interest. You really don't see many loose retelling of stories that aren't major fairy tales or folklore, so seeing Adele put a spin on this book with her own characters and world that they live in was a real pleasure.
And what a world it was! Adele always has some unbelievable world building in her books. The way she describes the characters and their surroundings makes it so you feel like you can practically touch the page and be there in the moment with those characters. Another thing I enjoyed about this world was the differences that they had to Earth. Primitive in a way, yet still having the main things necessities (and then some) to survive, thrive, and enjoy their lives, the inhabitants of Spiran were very similar to Earth dwellers, yet had the abilities of an elemental, each area of Spiran focusing on a different element (earth, fire, water, air--think Avatar). So even though there were so many similarities that made it easy to forget you were in an entirely different world, these differences really proved you wrong once you saw them showing up more often as the book progressed.
There is a lot of mystery and suspense with this series so far. The attacks from the beasts and shades, the possible stalker issue, and the grey mist seem like so much all at once, and they are, but I have a feeling they are just the tip of the iceberg. Something more dramatic is going on and I'm dying to know what! Even the island itself is an enigma to me with everything that it is capable of doing. Sentient in a way, it never ceased to amaze me how it could manipulate things and people in a way that would be most beneficial to the island itself. What the island decided it needed it took or made happen. I'm honestly wondering what it will do next!
This book, even though it was a slow burn, still gave me what I needed while reading. I was so focused on the actual storyline and finding answers to all the problems that the lack of steamy scenes didn't concern me. Plus, the tension and attraction is absolutely there and I know there will be no holding back for the Ada and the guys in the next book with the way this first book ended.
I still have so many questions after reading. Every time I think I have a grasp on something the story throws me for another loop. I'm hoping some of them get answered in the next book!
When a woman from Earth with nothing to lose tries to unravel why she has been placed on an alien planet with gorgeous alien men and a queen who was once a human, she gets an interesting mix of "strange and surprising" twists and turns that kept this reader intrigued.
Adelaide "Ada" Storm is confused and curious about her new digs. She's volatile, snarky and just plain stumped why she was in a fishing boat one minute and on an alien island the next. As Queen Isolde tries to guide Ada in her quest to find the reason she is here, Ada finds herself in the middle of a war of Mongrels and Shades. Prince Ecaeris thinks she is an enemy spy, Doctor Imyrlll thinks she is a healer, Warrior Talodus thinks she is a strong fighter, and Hunter Cannok thinks she can fend for herself. But will Ada stay or try to return home?
This is a light, slow-burn romance with a delightful heroine that made me laugh out loud many times. Ada is not one to be pushed around and told what to do as her four protectors find out firsthand. Told in multiple POVs, the story slowly reveals things about this strange world and the danger its people face. Ada experiences it first hand when she fears she's being followed and tries to take matters into her own hands at the frustration of her protectors.
Is this book a romance? Perhaps. But it is not a reverse harem in the erotic, sexual way. It is about four men who are captivated and sexually attracted to her but don't act on it. I found that more of this book is about the suspense of finding out who is following her and finding her "element" in a bizarre new world. That's okay because Ada steals the show and, unfortunately, right when it starts to get good, there is a cliffhanger.
As for the alpha heroes, I'm a big fan of Imyrll with his exotic look and gentle spirit. Talodus is the burly blonde warrior with a wonderful sense of humor. Cannok is the adventurous and reckless one and Ecaeris is the broody distrustful royal who loves to push Ada's buttons. Ada's got some wild attraction going on with these sexy men and it will be a treat to find out what happens.
I am happy to recommend this unusual science fiction suspense romance that cleverly introduces tribes connected to the four elements of astrology. I look forward to reading more in this series.
Thank you to Ms. Adele for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
When I read a blurb for a book that comes to the blog for reviewing, my mind goes, very quickly, yay or nay. I was erring towards the nay on this one, as I read that blurb til it gets to the bit at the bottom that says this is a reverse harem romance.
As you know if you follow my reviews, I do prefer my books on the smexier side, and the more the merrier. So, I was gonna say yes, just for that.
BUT!
I don't get it!
YET! I don't get the full force of this book, the reverse harem, YET.
What I do get, though, is the ground work, the foundation that will build the relationship between all the majors players and Ada. We get a wonderfully written tale of making the most of what's happened to you!
Ada is dragged into a water spout and is spit out on the Island. The Island tries to talk to Ada, with some surprising results!
The island pulls people in for a reason, and has been doing for many MANY years. Why?? That much isn't made clear, and I'm sure there is MUCH that isn't fully explained yet, or even revealed about this island and the Mongrels, and the people from Earth that live there.
Ada and all the major players get a say, and I liked that here. While I do like to hear from everyone, when there are TOO many, things get lost. Not so here, you needed to hear from everyone, how Ada makes them feel, make them react.
This is the first in the trilogy, and the first I've read of this author. I can't wait to get my grubby mitts on parts 2 and 3! I hope I don't have to wait too long!
Only because I'm a greedy toad, and don't get my smexy times,
Not going to lie I was a bit confused in the beginning because it took me a little while to understand that Ada was in the human world and then there was going to be a transition into the fantasy world. (This very much so could've been a human error sort of thing)
I thought the story premise was interesting but I guess I was sort of waiting for more world-building? I feel like we abruptly transitioned from reality to Ada's new reality with a hint of foreshadowing. I know there are more books in the series so I am assuming it is a matter of just reading the rest for it to really develop.
I thought at times the writing and the characters came across as juvenile. I get that this very well could be an intentional choice by the author- but at times it made it hard to really root for any of the characters.
I did think the prospect of more than one love story was interesting- but it was again something that this book was clearly setting the foundation for and it would come to be more in the next couple of books. I will say there are definitely love stories that I am rooting more so than others.
Overall I would say that this was pretty middle of the road for me. There were parts I liked and parts that I didn't really care for. But I will be reading more from this author and more from this series because I definitely could see myself connecting more to the story the more it and the characters develop.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
What an interesting story! For the Strange and Surprising: Where the Mongrels Are follows the lead character Ada as she gets swept into a waterspout during a storm and transported to another dimension/world. The dimension consists of a "magical" island with tribes affiliated with different elements. Ada finds herself with the Mongrels who all have some kind of power over water. The story follows Ada's journey as she tries to come to grips with being in a different dimension, fighting her attraction for four Mongrel men, and her struggle with deciding if she really wants to return home or not.
I enjoyed this story. I appreciated the author including possible trigger warnings in the beginning of the book as I've hardly come across that before. This book is reverse harem with Ada having four love interests so it may not be for everyone. I found the plot to be clever and it kept my interest. I have to say though that I know it's the first book of a series but I did feel like not much happened in this book. I kept waiting for something big to occur and I feel like I never really got that with this and because of that it felt somewhat incomplete. Overall, I did enjoy it and I am interested in continuing the series to see what happens next!
Now what an interesting book to read. So I felt like I was in a different version of Journey 2 Starring the Rock except this was the female version that may acquire a harem. Um Hello, sign me up on this journey right. Well for Ada there was no sign up sheet, and something else was at work. There is like another realm that brings in things from the earth world through out time. It was crazy. Then we have a huge mystery going on. One is that Eaeris is suss about her. He thinks she is a spy. Then you have Connak, Toladus, and Imyrll. Now all these guys are hot as sin and her mind keeps going off track. At the same time she is wanting to go back home. Now the question is with these really hot men her what does she got back home to go to? Something happened and obviously she is in pain and needs some healing and these men seem like they can do that. Then you have the strange things going on, beast that are huge and bugs too. I mean I was really sucked into this world and I want more. Now the ending left us like say what. But MF Adele is pretty good with those twist so here is to waiting.
What can I say this book pulled me into its world right from the start. The atmosphere is rich, vivid, and packed with mystery, and it has the kind of immersive world-building that I just want to know more about. I’m left with so many questions in the best way possible, and I love that.
Adalaide and everyone are so compelling and unique, and the dynamics between them had me hooked immediately. This is also meant to be a reverse harem, and I absolutely cannot waitt to see how things develop between her and every single one of these men.
and can I be honest even though the romance is definitely slow-burn and the only real “moment” we get is a kiss, I surprisingly didn’t mind at all because that one kiss was delicious enough to keep me wanting more. 😌🔥
Overall, this book is wonderful and I’m already itching to start the next book
Highly recommended if you love: Slow-burn reverse harem romances and Lush, mysterious world-building
I’m fully strapped in for wherever this story goes next.. bring it on!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A strong three and a half I find this hard to rate because honestly it’s good, interesting even but just at times the characters felt juvenile. For example Ada is confronting the Queen who is human and supposedly over a thousand years old but there are just no explanations given to Ada. Ada just keeps stumbling around and I wanted her to demand answers but everyone was just too nice . Ok yes there’s someone sinister lurking about and yes there’s a personality clash along the way which is clearly meant to indicate chemistry but I wanted to gnash my teeth. This is the first book in this series and well pretty tame although I think perhaps as Ada is sexually attracted to several guys that might soon change. An interesting idea that for this reader just needed less mystery and more upfront information. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book but I also love going in not knowing too much from the blurb and title. Figuring it all out is half the fun. I immediately was hooked once Ada met the men from the story. I love M.F. Adele’s Chronicles of Sloane King a lot party because of some laugh out loud moments with witty banter between characters. She brought that same energy to this new story and I loved it. I laughed quite a bit! Ada is courageous, snarky and open-minded in my opinion. There were a lot of unknown things and though she was overwhelmed a lot, she didn’t really freak out and I really liked that about her. The world that Adele has created has me extremely curious to learn more about Spiran, the people of the island and the people she’s become close to. I can’t wait to read more and to see where things take her! I need the next book like ASAP!
I easily devoured this book in one sitting! It is another amazing beginning to a series by M F Adele, the characters, story and universe kept me engaged and left me wanting more! Ada is the latest human to appear in the Mongrel tribe but is met with some suspicion because of recent attacks. We learn of mysterious beasts roaming the island which are still a mystery to the tribes and we learn of the ongoing attacks from "shadows". I can't wait until we learn more about the universe it's set in.
We slowly get introduced to her potential men and I can't wait to get to know their traits more in the next couple of books. Ecaeris, Imryll, Connack and Talodus each get moments with Ada throughout the book and I am torn between Imryll and Connack.
Excited for the next book and recommend this series!
“What an incredible beginning of a trilogy and let me tell you this is huge!!! First because this is a super slow burn romance and well I’m more a insta-love kind of girl which lead two the second point. There’s NO steam at all in this part part and that man hurt AF but there comes the huge but… the se*ual tension was worth the lack of spice scenes. Like I said, this is important to me because who doesn’t love steam? Back to the story, Ada was great FMC that must be said because the badass vibe wasn’t a joke and so much appreciated. A crying FMC wanting to be saved? Nope! Her men… sweet Lord, did I love them? Of course! Whom is my favorite… do I’ve to choose? I refuse to do so that’s why is an RH right? BTW, the multiple POV was the perfect addition. The mystery wasn’t joke and I’m dying for answers.”
Lovely Surprise I went into this book a little blind. Liked the blurb but wasn’t really sure what to expect and what a lovely surprise. The author really took her time creating a mysterious and magical world and giving me the chance to get to know just enough about the characters and story to keep me in a constant state of ‘what comes next?’ Right to the very end lol. I need to know more. It’s been a while since I got lost in author’s world. I don’t want to give anything away, just jump in and let M.F. Adele take you on a little journey.
4/5 ⭐️ 1/5 🌶 (wonderful chemistry but no spice yet 😉)
Honestly, i usually don’t pick these types of books to read. But I loved the author’s other books so I preordered it with little thought.
I like this book a lot! The characters and the plot are intriguing! I would describe this book as an introduction to the characters and to the story. This books leaves you with many questions and few answers., but I suppose that’s the point of the first book in a series, to intrigue the readers and make them come back for more. I definitely look forward to more of this series!
I'm pleasantly surprised by this book. It's completely different than Sloanes story. I love that it's cast as an Earthling is found among a strange island. It feels like a fun loving mystery and sexy men mix in along the ride. Im eagerly awaiting book #2 to see where Ada's story continues. I'm intrigued by her relationship with the Prince and why his mother is so amused by their back and forth interactions. The queen seems privy to information no one else has and you must figure out the riddle to get your answers.
Well Adelaide's day definitely took an unexpected turn. From reeling in fish to trying to get ahold of what is happening. People are rightly suspecious of her she is just trying to find out where and what the heck is happening.
Adelaide handles the whole new world situation better than I think I would....but maybe not if you throw in the men 😉 The queen from this story amused me, she definitely knows what's happening but isn't telling. Something is definitely afoot with the Beasts and all that Adelaide can notice.
I really enjoyed that this was a more pf a lighter and enjoyable reverse harem. Ada gets the Wizard of Oz treatment when a storm pulls her into a new world. She struggles to understand the new world she is trapped in and the rules of survival.
I like that each male character has a different relationship with Ada, from slighty antagonistic to flirtatious to calm and relaxing. I love the different dynamics. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the trilogy. Hopefully, we will learn more about the rules of this fantastical new world.
So first i must admit... i am madly in love with this author ... like seriously every single book is AMAZING. This series is no different. I read this in 1day and a half and it only took that long because i have a 5 yr old !!!! I absolutely love how much goes in to rhe characters and world building. When i read the name of this book it made me think of the kids book 'where the wild things are' (which I loved as a child) and then I find out thats where she got the idea... sooo awesome!
