Our publishing business is an extension of who we are and what we want in life. In order to find success at genre fiction writing, authors need to figure out which projects will move them towards their ideal career. In Romance Your Goals, New York Times and USA Today bestselling romance author Zoe York lays out a new framework for creating a chain of goals, achievable mile markers that point you in the right direction. This book includes:
* decision-making tools you can add to your career management toolbox * further expansion on the Series 2.0 concept, and how progressive career growth can happen without breakout bestseller success * support for knowing when to take your writing career in a new direction
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Zoe York is a busy working mom of two young boys, wife to a very understanding soldier, and creator of modern, sexy, small town contemporary romances.
She lives in London, Ontario and is currently chugging Americanos, wiping sticky fingers, and dreaming of heroes in and out of uniform.
Zoe always gives straightforward advice and makes it clear that you have to figure out how things work for you, not just follow a plan mindlessly. This whole series is a great read for romance writers.
Fantastic book, perfect for authors trying to figure out what the heck they are doing with their career. This is the kind of book you dip into and come back as a reminder again and again.
I really loved this book! It was like hanging out with a friend who comes over with pizza (and a binder of notes) when you need advice. The author repeatedly stated that she's a peer, not a guru, which I appreciate, because it makes everything more real and approachable. Sure, she's many levels above me in her writing success and experience, but she's also, like, a real person. Who knew ;) I'm saying this, because sometimes how-to books are written from a pedestal and that makes them harder to relate to for me. With this book, it's as if I was honestly just sitting with Zoe somewhere and she would tell me what worked for her, what didn't, and what she suggested I did. It made me miss hanging out with writing aquaintances (I haven't done that in a long, long time, and I probably should find a new virtual writerly space). There's not a lot of generalizations in this book and if there are, they are followed with more details later on. They are also based on real examples, which is the best way for me to absorb something. This is not a book where you'll find a numerous ways to set SMART goals or whatever. But if you're a writer, you will be able to look on what you have and what you want to have and then come up with ideas on how to attempt to breach the gap. For me (someone who recently sat down and created a plan), it also allowed me to dig a little deeper and was an additional check if the plan makes sense.
This book may be read as a stand-alone, but you're probably going to be tempted to go back and read the other two books as well. ;)
I read an ARC of this book, but my opinion is my own.
Absolutely what I needed. Exactly when I needed it!
I loved absolutely everything about this and would recommend to any author that’s unsure on their path. From just a few books pub’ed to mid-career crisis/change, Zoe does a wonderful job at helping you align your goals TO YOU. I’d even say there are chunks (not nuggets, CHUNKS) of gold to be found for anyone starting out but looking long term as well!
I so love this book! Truth be told, as I read the Chapter on Series 2.0, I realized I had made a series 2.0 with my first series. Now, more readers are actually enjoying the stories, yet I am currently at the moment in the writing lab going through prospective work. Great read.
Similar to the first two books in Romance Your... publishing series, this book contains great advice and actionable homework to help elevate your writing career. I read it in one sitting, and it is already full of sticky notes and notations of things I can implement.
You need goal to be an author in today's world. Zoe give you a great guide to know your goals, when to set them and how important each and e very are. She hand hold down the path to becoming a romance author, and believe me there is a lot to learn in addition to writing your book. Guy
This book has some great decision-making tools for creating a solid five-year plan that can be created and recreated as much as an author needs to keep the target moving and the writing moving forward.
