Trish Morey always fancied herself a writer, but was sternly advised that she better better think about getting a real job instead. Which Trish figures must be why she spent her university years washing dishes in a Chinese restaurant by night and picking gherkins for an Adelaide Hills primary producer by day. (Enough to put you off "real jobs" for life).
It was another twelve years, an accounting career and two babies on that Trish once again turned her mind to writing. it was a further eleven years (and two more babies:)) before Trish sold her first book to Harlequin Presents, and her dream of being a published author came true.
Some forty books later, Trish is now an award winning and USA Today Bestselling Author of some 40+ books. Trish still loves writing romance but these days combines it with all the fun, drama and sisterhood of women, family and girlfriends.
When she’s not out traveling the world in search of inspiration for her stories, Trish lives with her husband, Daisy their over enthusiastic Cavoodle pup, Daisy, and Leo, their very old and totally unenthusiastic cat, down on the glorious South Coast of South Australia where the waves crash over the granite rocks and splash upon the golden sands.
I am currently trying to make my way through Anna Karenina at the moment and finding it a hard slog. Feeling like something light for a friday night I cracked open the box of books my Mum gave me for just such an occasion.
Oh dear. I wonder whether I have outgrown these cute romance books. They just don't work for me at all. Let us see what we have in terms of plot:
Boy/Girl meet as young 20 something on a Greek Island. Have a holiday fling but used a condom like good responsible youth...but the condom didn't work (oops! That seems to happen a lot in these books, I would consider suing the mythical Mills & Boon Condom Company). She comes back to Australia. Has a baby, but doesn't tell him for some convoluted reason. 8 years later he comes all the way around the world to fix up his uncle's company and guess who works there...What are the chances? Apparently pretty high in Mills & Boon land. As her boss he breaks every sexual harassment law, threatens to take her kid off her and then she relents and lets him take her child of 8 years away to Greece without her (as any Mother would do especially after keeping the father out of the loop for 8 years). Not sounding like a happy ending? Don't fear! She gets hit by a car saving her son and he realises that she is the one...and they call this romance. Where is a vampire to rip their damn heads off when you need one :-).
Not my cup of tea. Hero and Heroine were very unlikeable and the storyline was just beyond the scope of realistic entertainment.
“Hero” from Greece has sex (with condom) with a 17-year-old on holiday... she goes home to Australia, turns out she’s pregnant, has his baby but hides that info for 8 years for a lot of convoluted reasons related to his disastrous, wealthy family. Fast-forward and he flies to Australia, becomes her boss, subjects her to sexual harassment... brings in a replacement for her without even knowing whether she does a good job... then wears her down and takes her to bed only to run out while she’s sleeping.
When she admits she’s never been with anyone else, he doesn’t acknowledge that, and replies that of course he’s been with many women because he’s “a man.” (Charming... so glad she saved herself for him.)
Then, when he finally discovers his son, he solidifies plans to take an 8-year-old kid to Greece, away from the mother, for 8 years as payback/revenge. And put his son in the care of a nanny because he’s a high-powered businessman you know...
What? (And she’s going to let him go... are you kidding me?!) Just NO. How any of this is okay is beyond me.
It takes her being run over, bloody, and unconscious in the street before he remotely decides he cares for her, and finally in the hospital, there’s a half-a** marriage proposal of like one line. (The proposal he should have coughed up chapters ago, except he really only cares about himself and his revenge.)
I was going to say 2 stars, but ranting has made me realize I can’t suggest you waste your time. His treatment of her was appalling. He took his revenge and bitterness to a level he didn’t come back from...

Rating two stars only because at times it was almost bearable. In their early 20s Alex went on a family vacation where she met Nick and they proceeded to have a wild greek affair. When she returns home she finds out she's pregnant but for reasons that never made sense - decided not to tell Nick. Meanwhile, he's still back on the island calling her daily and writing love letters that are never returned. Fast forward 8-9 years later Nick is now a big shot business guy. His uncle passes away and writes a condition within the Will that he has to train his cousin Sofia to run a business before he can retain whatever his uncle left for him (never understood that part).
Meanwhile, guess who now works at this company...Surprise! It's Alex. She never got around to telling him that he was a father and honestly has no desire to let him know now. Then in the midst of all this will-she/won't-she drama, Sofia announces she and Nick are getting married!...WHAT??!! Guess we're just supposed to ignore the fact that they're cousins and this would be an incestual relationship. This apparently didn't phase any of the characters, just apart of the storyline like it was normal. But wait, turns out Sofia made it all up. She's having a mental breakdown that made her think she's going to marry her cousin...
Another part of the book that bothered me was that in 9 years Alex did not go on one date. In all this time Nick has remained her "one & only" but as he proclaimed "I'm a man". Implying that gives him the right to sleep with countless women yet Alex had to remain faithful to a man she left nearly a decade ago.
The more I analyze this book, the more I realize how bad it was.
3 1/2 Stars! ~ While on holiday in Greece with her family, Alexandra met Nick and they began a whirlwind affair. When the holiday ended and Alex returned to Australia they kept in touch with hopes of a future together. Alex discovered she was pregnant, and because of circumstances in Nick's world, she chose not to tell him and allowed their communications to drift, until Nick broke their contact. It's nine years later now, Alex has a wonderful son, Jason. Her boss has recently died, and the company is anxiously awaiting the arrival of family from Greece to take over. Much to Alex's surprise, the family expected turns out to be Nick and he wants answers to why she gave up on them all those years before. The sparks are still there, but Nick is very bitter. When he learns the truth that Jason is his son, he vows to take Jason back to Greece without Alex.
This is Ms. Morey's debut, and it shows wonderful promise for amazing stories to come. I liked both Alex and Nick, although Alex didn't come off in the best of light with her decision to keep Jason's identity secret for so long. Nick has faced many bitter family losses, and had viewed Alex's secrets as further betrayal. And oddly for a Presents, I found myself more sympathetic towards Nick than Alex. All is explained in the end. An enjoyable read.
I liked this story, but I found the end too exaggerated. I must confess that I didn’t like that Nick didn’t offer marriage until the very end and not very sincerely. For that reason, the h (Alexandra) could not accept his offer, although the only other alternative for her was to loose her son and be completly alone in the future, having to take this as the revenge Nick was exacting on her. There must be a nearly fatal accident for Nick to reconsider his position. I must also say that I have liked similar exagerated endings in other HP, but they perhaps seemed not so contrived as here.
