Surrendering to the Gentleman Pirate

Rate this book
1750, Pembrokeshire Wales

Bronwyn Rees is about to marry Leonard Price Viscount of Pembroke, the most eligible peer west of Bristol, when her idyllic, coastal wedding is besieged by pirates. After her first love drowned in the Celtic Sea, she fears the ghosts of her tortured past will sail with her as she is kidnapped onto the ominously named ship, The Serpent. Still, she is sure her betrothed will save her from this toothless band of unwashed knaves. She is less sure about how long she can ignore the potent desire that surfaces whenever she is in the presence of their charismatic but fiercely vengeful captain.

American privateer turned pirate Captain Miles Nash has spent seven years plotting his revenge on Leonard Price. The ruthless viscount masterminded the ruin and death of the one woman he has ever loved and Nash intends to repay the favour. There’s just one problem: Bronwyn Rees is not quite the haughty, dismissive lady he was expecting and the soft lilt of her Welsh accent enchants him like no other voice has before.

While Bronwyn and Miles weather the various storms of sea-life and the captain’s revenge plot only thickens, she will have to decide if her destiny lies at the side of the viscount or in the arms of her gentleman pirate.

First of all, what is it with the hero's "rounded stomach" that is mentioned quite a few times...that kind of deflated my fantasy of what a hero in a romance book looks like! lol This was an enjoyable read, I always love going on an adventure at sea:)

When Miles kidnaps Bronwyn just as she's going to marry and brings her to his pirate ship, little does he know what he's in for! Bronwyn is no wilting violet and gives as good as she gets. Attraction pulls them together and before long they're working together to bring down the culprit Miles wants revenge on. As danger surrounds them, the heated passion they share burns brighter.

I've never been big on Pirates but wanted to give this story a go since I enjoyed the author's last book so well. I was not disappointed! This book is full of pain, desire, strength and determination that just about any reader can find an aspect to take hold of and sail along for the ride.

Another buzzer book in the pirate trope. It was a short book and it's a good thing. Had it been any longer, I would've declared it a DNF. I kept hoping it would improve or that something believable would happen, but there was just nothing there.

Miles Nash is the pirate captain. Unlike other heroes-pirates or other-he's got a bit of a belly on him. I don't mind some weight on men and I'm not judging, but considering how much work it takes to keep a ship going and the lack of food that was mentioned, is having a chubby captain really a thing? Maybe. But he wasn't a convincing pirate anyway. He didn't have the rough demeanor or the vernacular or even the defiance that's common in this trope. Instead, he was a one-dimensional character that was put into situations that required more of him than he was probably able to give.

As for Bronwyn. I didn't like her at all. She was one-dimensional with a mean mouth and a judgmental attitude. She wasn't grateful for anything, even when Miles saved her life twice. Granted, he did kidnap her from her wedding at sword point (wouldn't a knife been more effective?) and absconded with her to his ship, but she was just ugly until she decided she wanted to have sex with him.

There are a couple of steamy scenes and they involve anal play. I am so not into that. I find nothing sexy about it and it would've been nice to have some sort of warning about it, but to each his own. There was no romance at all. No feels. No building up to that first kiss. No touches. Nothing. It was really disappointing.

So, between the poorly developed characters, the lack of a plot, the sordid sex scenes (he had a "pole" and she had a "honeypot". Puleeze!), and the wrong version of words used and misspellings, I'm giving this book one star.

Sorry to be so mean. I know how hard it is to get a book out there and I don't want to demoralize the author, but this book was just missing so much.

There are a couple of components that might work for others. One is we have a "curvy" hero who doesn't have a lot of experience with women. The other is both characters are scarred. Her scars are on her face and came from a fire. His is on his face, but it isn't explained how he got it.

Not Really Light, But Still Lovely

At the book review site where I downloaded this novella, the author stated it was meant to be a light and breezy read, so I went into it with that spirit. Yes, it has some historical and other errors here and there, but I passed them by to just enjoy the story... which I did. For a story that is supposed to be not so serious, both the hero and the heroine had troubled pasts with potential (yet now deceased) loves of their lives, and the heroine had horrific facial scarring from when she saved her younger sister's life. It opens with a great scene where the pirate hero kidnaps the heroine to get back at the groom. But, of course, things get interesting between the captured heroine and the pirate hero, and even more so as we learn about the villainous would-be groom. This book certainly has some steamy parts, but the author showed their attraction well—even as they fought it and each other. Things pivot at the middle of the story, completely changing where it looked like the book was headed. In the end, I did find this book a very pleasant read.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Great storyline about an honorable pirate, yes there is such a thing, who kidnaps bride Bronwyn in the middle of her wedding vows to force her betrothed to pay up for his past sins. In an interesting twist, Bronwyn is a kind spirited woman and I love how she protects herself and eventually the mastermind behind the plan that turns the tables on her betrothed when he double crosses her and leaves her to the pirates. Lots of emotions, pain and recounting of losses mixed with action and adventure these strong main characters have some intense chemistry and some steamy interactions. The writing style is smooth and makes the book easy to read and follow, a must read, just skip over the part where the hero is described with a rounded stomach - nope in my mind he has a six pack chiseled body.

Oh so good. Lots of action, villainy and steam. Captain Miles Nash kidnaps Bronwyn during her wedding and demands a ransom of riches from her fiance. They proceed to have lots of adventures at sea....not the least of which is their tumultuous relationship and fighting their attraction to each other. This is a quick paced story with wonderful characters, lots of conflict, many surprises and some rather steamy escapades.

*** High seas Hi-jinks!

A saucy, salty Georgian romp of pirates, plunder, revenge and romance. Its a light-hearted, fun, quick read, bringing together Welsh Bronwyn and New Yorker Miles in a fairly far-fetched story resulting in a second chance love affair. Some odd touches, like the insistence that Miles' body is not that of a traditional historical romance rippling Adonis, and some basic errors such as calling aristocrats Mr in places.

I thoroughly enjoyed this pirate revenge with great characters, romance and intrigue. He was an American in love with a rich woman and was trying to get rich enough to marry her. Then an English lord came and married her, eventually causing her death. He vowed revenge and captured the Lord's bride away and held her until he gave him the large ruby. There was a lot of romance and intrigue with a HEA.

Loved this story. Both characters were great. They were both strong, likable, and funny. I enjoyed the back and forth between them and of course wanted to cheer when they finally admit their feelings toward each other. They made a perfect, sizzling match.

A quick steamy read

I loved the flawed characters and the storyline. Interesting though predictable it keeps you wanting to keep reading, would like an extended story with the main characters

How many times can a dick be called a pole in a book? One is too many for me.

It was refreshing to find a main male character who wasn't perfectly built. A man with a bit of a stomach instead of a six pack is more realistic.

This is the Perfect pirate story! The handsome pirate kidnaps the girl. Then there’s adventure, mystery, and a lot of unbuckling going on. And then there’s more adventures. But really love how the characters grow as the tale progresses. This is my kind of pirate book!

A steamy historical romance novella story that kept me turning pages. Bronwyn Rees gets kidnapped from her wedding by American privateer turned pirate Captain Miles Nash. This story has suspense, drama, danger, attempted murder, a very evil man, and love. I enjoyed reading this story.
