In the 26th century, humanity relentlessly continues their fight for survival, an enduring conflict set against the backdrop of the enigmatic and ancient ringworld known as Halo.
The universe of Halo is remarkably vast in scale and astonishingly elaborate in detail, telling rich stories filled with bold characters, breathtaking worlds, and thrilling conflicts. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Halo, Dark Horse and 343 Industries have teamed up to deliver the most definitive guide to the universe thus far. Spanning over a hundred millennia and encompassing over a hundred thousand light years, the Halo Encyclopedia captures two decades of storytelling with stunning, never-before-seen art and the most detailed exploration of the universe’s many characters, worlds, and technologies to have ever been created
They tried to bury as many plotholes as possible, but some still stick out. Such as why the Guardians were never used/insufficient to combat the Flood? Only for policing, oh sorry, my bad. I didn't know you were dealing with an all-consuming eldritch horror. No by all means, don't use them.
Others I just plain skipped through. It's egregious for one that the Forerunners use weapons on par with humans and Covenant, and they find some lame excuses from it, whilst it's clearly for gameplay purposes. I would've never addressed them, but there are weapon nerds that feel different, I suspect.
The lore and history were good. As were the images, though sometimes a bit cringy when the art styles change so much because they've been taken from different games decades apart.
This encyclopedia is very much in line with the lore that I know of as far as Halo has come, from combat evolved up until infinite. However, my one colossal gripe is that the text is just way too small to read, even on the kindle cloud reader when viewed from a 1920x1080p, 50+ inches wide TV screen (what I'm using as a monitor right now). If I could get amazon to force Microsoft studios or whoever published this book to pull the title until this issue is fixed I'd give the book 15 stars if I could. I recommend this time highly.
A great collectible for any Halo fan, and one I’m glad to have on my shelf.
This is a great present for someone to flip through over the course of an afternoon, but I wouldn’t sit down and read this one line by line. They did a really, really nice job with it, but books like this aren’t really ~useful~ to the average fan of a particular series and can’t be enjoyed as deeply as, say, an art book can.
The special edition is a beautiful book full of great lore and wonderful art. Knocking off one star for some incorrect entries/info and some illustrations that got flipped and printed with the wrong entry.
