Wishes abound during the holiday season in Augusta, Missouri, as the perfect Santa takes his place in Doc’s old office and sets the scene for children’s wishes to come true. Connecting with her sisters is Lily Rosenthal’s favorite event of the season, so she makes a quilt full of good wishes to welcome a newfound member of the family while dealing with her shop’s Christmas rush. Unsettling events give the Dinner Detectives a lot to think about–and another frightening mystery to solve.
Ann Hazelwood was the owner of a quilt shop for 30 years. She has always adored quilting and is a certified quilt appraiser. In addition to her cozy quilt fiction, she has written travel guides and quilting non-fiction.
2.5 In Ann Hazelwood's fourth novel of the Wine Country Quilts Series, Lily Rosenthal starts her holidays with a Thanksgiving Pie Party, but the holiday season truly comes alive during the Christmas Walk in her town of Augusta, Missouri. A jolly, perfect Santa Claus occupies Doc's office on her property during the event and offers children one wish for Christmas. This inspires Lily to make a Christmas Wish quilt for her newly discovered half-sister. Wishes abound throughout the holiday season until a wish to find out more about Doc, Lily's unsettled spirit, turns quite interesting. [Amazon synopsis] Nice Christmas story ruined by ghosts, half sisters and wishy-washy heart. Doc's ghost doesn't make it with me; a half sister you didn't know about, but accepted with open arms, no questions asked; and a middle aged woman who acts like a 1 yr old when it comes to romance. Don't know why I kept reading after book #1.
It really ended with a cliffhanger, so I'm sure I'll have to find out what is the next book in the series. I'm sure the heroine is a fictional character, but since she does make quilts by hand, I don't know why the author doesn't have her working on her quilts at the shop when there's no business coming into the shop. She's usually busy, but does have time on her hands. And especially since she's her own boss, it just makes sense.
Another hard cliffhanger! I love reading these stories and I love the writing style of this author. But I hate cliffhangers. I can't wait till the next one and that waiting is sometimes unbearable if you get lost in the story as I do.
Just yesterday we made a trip to Augusta wine country. We didn’t find an antique quilt shop but did taste a lot of wine! This book was one of the least engaging of this and other series. Not much happens at all. Hoping the next book has more story to it.
I liked the stories in this book and can’t wait to start the next one. I think there’s only one more book in this series, so hopefully stories get completed before the end of the next book.
This has got to be by far Ann Hazelwood's worst work I've read, yet. I don't know if I'll read the fifth and final book if this series, or not... Oh Well! Happy Reading!
Oh my, a lot of quaint writing about a popular gal, running her quaint little antique shop, selling quaint little antique quilts and discussing her quaint, non-committal relationship (with “baseball guy”)with her sisters. Quaint small town Christmas going on’s and yet nothing really happening in this book. No story line...just “a day in the life”. I gave it 2 stars because it had quilts in it. Lol.
