Anne Mather is a true HPlandia Doyenne. One of her best abilities is to keep her HP outings current in whatever decade she finds herself and Stay Through the Night is no exception.

This one has on of AM's lesser used sub tropes - we aren't keepin' it in the family this time - instead, we are going to heal a Wounded Alpha with PTSD.

But as this is HPlandia, and AM's Shire at that, we aren't going to completely escape the family drama.

The family drama in this one consists of our divorced, semi-doormat to keep the peace h being send by her mum to the H's remote and privately owned Scottish Isle in search of the h's misbehaving sister. A divorced HP h is still rather unusual, but even more amazingly, this h dumped her nematode ex husband when she finally caught him cheating on her.

He tried to claim it was just that he tripped and fell onto his boss's secretary, but the h had suspected her bully ex was having it off with all and sundry for a lot of their marriage. So she was just really happy when he got caught and she could dump his hiney without her useless mother going on about it.

The h puts up with a lot of snark from her flighty sister and her mother doesn't seem to get that character is better than beauty - which is probably why this h's sister will never make it as an HP h in future books.

Anyhows, the book opens with the mum having hysterics and nagging the h into going to this remote Scottish Isle that supposedly her twit of a sister ran off to.

This Isle is owned by the H - a famed horror writer that is suffering from some serious PTSD. One of the H's fans mistook the H for one of his evil characters and brutally attacked him.

The H ended up scared and damaged and to make things worse, his lovely world famous model fiancee dumped him while he was still in hospital for a Billionaire Argentinian Polo Player.

(The ex fiancee will probably never be an HP h either - but there is some possibility we might see the Polo Player in a future HP outing.)

So the h and H meet, cause hardly anyone lives on the H's Isle Estate and the Lurve Force Mojo explodes between them. Unfortunately, the h's shock upon seeing the H's scars when they are about to be cast adrift on the Golden Shores of Transcendent Bliss makes the H think twice and he runs the h off.

Since the sister is nowhere near Scotland and the h arguing with the H that she was shocked by the damage someone did but NOT horrified is pretty futile, the h takes herself back to her life for a huge mopey moment whilst doing her lesson plans for the new school year.

The H can't get the h's body and her promising potential for Transcendent Bliss off his mind tho. So he has to go look her up en-route to getting one of his old injuries looked at in a London Clinic. The h welcomes the H when he shows up at her flat and thrilling Tower of Power rides are soon commencing.

The H runs off again when the h's slime pustule ex-husband shows up. The h is trying to the ex back to the sub sewer he crawled out of, but the H is having an HP h moment and sneaks out while the h is trying to tell the idiot ex off.

The h finds the H's forgotten phone and calls one of the numbers, a lady answers and the h believes that the H was just using her as a pit stop. She decides to continue on with her interrupted mopey moment, until the H AND her ex both show up again.

The ex still can't get it in his head that the h is done with him and has been for years. The H is all about getting the h back to partner with him on the Road of Life and one gut punch to the slime swiller ex later, the H and h are on their way. The H explains that the lady the h called was his sister and then we finally get the Big True Love Forevermore Declaration he has been saving up for 40 pages.

Since the h loves the H just as madly, her sister seems to have actually found a reliable job and the h's mum is so happy that she isn't nagging the h, the h and the H go off to the Caribbean for a pink sparkly, rosy glow honeymoon.

AM also gives us a little epilogue where the h and H are back on the Scottish Isle, totally devoted to each other and the h is expecting a little mini-H, even though her ex had her convinced she was infertile.

After the h manages to deliver the baby with only a midwife while the H is rescuing stranded fishermen with his helicopter, we leave our happy trio to their bliss, for a pretty decent HPlandia outing.

The heroine goes in search of her younger sister who has taken off to be an actress, when she comes across the hero. Despite the fact the hero was brooding and rude, the heroine falls for him.

Great read, the hero went through a lot of bad stuff in his life and when he hooked up with the heroine she helped him heal. I really liked the book.

3 1/2 Stars! ~ Sent by her frantic mother to find her teenage sister, Rosa travels to a remote Scottish island. She’d been told her sister has taken up with best-selling horror author, Liam Jameson. Only when she finds Liam, her sister isn’t with him nor had she ever been. After a horrendous attack by a deranged fan, Liam keeps pretty much to himself. Not only does he face the physical scars and daily pain, but the emotional ones too when his fiancée left him. Rosa sees the man Liam is and she’s intensely attracted, but after a disastrous marriage she’s not willing to risk her heart again. Liam doesn’t want Rosa’s pity so he finds ways to push her away.

This was a lovely read about betrayals and personal healing. Liam isn’t a typical Presents alpha – in fact, I don’t think I’d class him as alpha -- just determined and bitter. Rosa has a tough job convincing him that the outer scars mean nothing to the man he is inside. I was routing for both Liam and Rosa, and was very happy they found there HEA.

"Stay Through The Night" is the story of Rosa and Liam.

Pretty sweet. The heroine travels to meet the hero, a famous writer, when her sister goes missing. There is lots of fighting and accusations, but soon they realize their attraction for each other, there's drama and it ends in a HEA.

It took me a long time to finish it because the story didnt engage me but overall not a bad read.

Mather uses the "responsible older sister, spoiled younger sister, petulant mother" trope a great deal, and it's not one I'm fond of. What makes this book worse is that Matherhas obviously put effort into creating a beautifully backdrop (the wilds of Scotland) for the story, but the heroine, Rosa, is just dislikeable. She's rude and condescending of our hero's home and job, and apparently is u able to speak I was coherent sentences when responding to her mother.

'Just come here, will you?'

'now what?'

'Like you don't know,' he retorted softly, catching her wrist and bringing its sensitive network of veins to his mouth. 'Kiss me.'

Rosa's breathing faltered. 'Liam-'

'Just do it, dammit,' he demanded harshly, and without a word she stepped closer and reached up to brush his lips with hers.

Liam gave a frustrated snort. 'Is that the best you can do?' He used is free hand to trace the shape of her jawline, allowing his fingers to move into the fiery glory of her hair. 'Kiss me, Rosa. Like you mean it. I didn't drive all this way just so you could give me a beer.'

Unlikable characters and h, supposedly smart, goes to remote Scottish island to find useless little sister and does not:
Check ferry schedule to see whether the brat could have gone,
Ask ferry people whether her eye catching sis was there,
Find out about accommodation before leaving (island is 2 hours away and the first stop on a multi island itinerary so good odds it’s not a day trip)

And so on. And she’s happy to fall in bed with man she just met. Bad judgement.

This was OK.

I felt sort of like I'd read this before which I'm pretty sure I haven't but the story line felt liked I'd read this book before. Not sure if its just because its similar to another book or I've really read this at some point.

Stay Through the Night was written in 2006. Part of the Harlequin Presents series # 2381. I liked the story, but seriously wished for more details about Liam's life. It is one of those books you wished had been a full size novel.
