Lesson In Love #1

One More Kiss

Rate this book
Step one: Kiss Cal again. Just one more kiss.
Step two: Kiss someone else to compare.
Step three: Permanently close the door on Cal Chase.

April Harris: Once again I bang on the connecting door to my dorm room, trying to be heard over the blaring music coming from the other side. My bestie should be living in that room, but no, she transferred to be with her boyfriend and now I’m stuck sharing a wall with stupidly hot track star, Cal Chase. My friends say I'm lucky, but his mere presence annoys me, along with his late-night music and the constant gaggle of giggly girls who visit. I’m the only one who can see right through that patented “Cal Charm.” He’s just another player and I’m not game.

So, why the hell did I let him give me an out-of-this-world kiss under the stars the other night? It had to be the magic of the meteor shower. I can’t actually like him, right? I simply need to prove Cal’s stellar kiss was a fluke, and I know how to do it and in just three steps.

Should be easy, right?

Yeah, famous last words.

Summary –

A meteor shower leads April to share an electrifying kiss with her annoying neighbor, Cal, yet all she craves is one more kiss. April wraps her comforter around her and follows her friends outside, in the middle of the night mind you, to watch a meteor shower. Her next-door neighbor and totally hot college track star, Cal, tags along. Oh goodie. Insert sarcasm here. His mere presence unnerves her, especially when she shares her warm comforter with him. Trading barbs is what she does with Cal but this time, it leads to a sizzling kiss. No one has ever kissed her like that, and it causes her perfect little life to unravel. All she can think about is Cal’s kiss and how she wants him to do it again and again. But he’s a total player, or is he? When he sets the record straight, April decides she needs to test a new theory. Will she discover a kiss is just a kiss or is it Cal’s kisses that melt her heart?

Narrator’s overall voice –

Hollie Jackson has an expressive voice with a great personality to it. She takes each character and creates the perfect voice for them. She annotates college-aged kids with ease. Thanks to Hollie, I got caught up in the story and listened to it in one sitting.

Does the narrator fit the characters?

Yes, she does. As I mentioned above, it takes talent to narrate for a college-aged audience. I loved the sparring between Cal and April.

Narrator’s reading style –

Hollie’s reading style is effortless, and I found it easy to get caught up in the story. I swear Hollie sounds just like I did when I was in college. Well done.

Narrator’s impact on reading experience –

Her interpretation of Tara September’s story is excellent, and I found myself laughing at April’s inner turmoil. Hollie even sighs as April does in the story. The way Hollie expresses the romantic tension between Cal and April is wonderful.

Narrator’s pacing –

The pacing is well done with plenty of romantic tension so the reader can follow along without getting lost.

Audiobook flow –

The audiobook flowed from start to finish with the right balance of humor, romance, and enemies-to-romance drama. I didn’t want to stop reading/listening.

What makes this audiobook unique –

I’m a huge new adult/college romance reader and this audiobook is one of the best audiobooks I’ve heard. It’s also short so it can be read in less than three hours.

Would I recommend this audiobook –

YES! I would recommend this to any reader looking for an enemies-to-lovers romance. Highly recommend!

Not Just a Chase

This is cute college romance with a trace of drama and a bite of heat. I like how this unraveled between dorm neighbors April and Cal. The push and pull is adorable. There are a couple of playful scenes that were very entertaining and sometimes sweet.

Hollie Jackson is the narrator. She's a fine narrator but her voice didn't match what I envisioned twenty-one year-old April to sound like.

Quick, fast paced, enjoyable novella!

I recently got into Tara September’s books and yet again, I was not disappointed! Loved One More Kiss! ❤️

One More Kiss is a standalone novella, and is a part of her Lesson In Love series. It takes place at a university campus (I guess that’s college for all the Americans out there). Here we meet April (yep that’s her name) and Cal (also his name). They live in the same floor and are next door neighbours. However, they’ve always had an antagonist relationship towards each other. After all, trading barbs is what they do best. One night, a meteor shower in which they are both present to watch, leads them to share a kiss that leaves them both wanting and craving more.

When April’s door handle to her room gets broken, she has no choice but to get in and out of her room through their adjoining room door. This forces them to interact with each other more and actually get to know one another.

As mentioned, after their kiss, All April can think about is that kiss, and she wants to do it again and again. But, she’s sceptical due to his perceived reputation as player, or is he? When she learns the truth, that he isn’t all she thought, she decides she needs to test a new theory. She simply needs to prove that Cal’s stellar kiss was a fluke. Or was it?

I really enjoyed this one! This was quick, fast paced and just overall fun to read!

Hollie Jackson, as always, did amazingly with the narration. She captured both characters perfectly and made my experience of this book better!

Ms. September hooked me with her writing back in 2020 when I read Mine to Five and Don't Start Now in 2021. I don't usually pick up a lot of novellas but when I received a personal request to review One More Kiss, I couldn't wait to read it. Cal and April's enemies-to-lovers story is playful and genuine as two college neighbors with a connecting door can't stop with just one kiss under the stars.

Cal is kind and playful as he pursues his feisty and headstrong neighbor by serenading her with kissing songs, passes her notes, leaves her Hershey kisses outside her door, and calls her bluff with her silly notion to kiss someone else to make sure their shared kiss wasn't a fluke. He's a good guy with the best intentions of winning over the beautiful bookish girl next door. Yummy!

April is at college to get an education, not party all night. So when her next-door neighbor keeps her up with his giggly girlfriends she assumes he's a playboy. After a stolen kiss under the stars, her lie of a less-than-enthused reaction to it is just the challenge Cal needs to prove her wrong. With lots of sexual tension and late-night conversations through their connecting door, her preconceived notions start to waver as one kiss leads to another.

I am pleased to recommend this fun college romantic novella full of playfulness and chemistry of the sensual kind. The characters are cute, the flirting is entertaining, and their HEA is refreshing.

Thank you to Ms. September for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Note: This is part of the “Love at First Kiss” college romance novellas series. Each is penned by a different author and characters appear across books. That said, I haven’t read/listened to any of the others and didn’t feel that it detracted from my enjoyment.

Even though I’m not currently reading a lot of NA/college books - I was looking forward to listening to this one because I’ve enjoyed Tara September’s other books.

Enemies to Lovers is a trope that doesn’t always work for me because not all authors redeem/reconcile what has the MCs at odds to begin with. September didn’t have any problem pulling that off here. April Harris has an adjoining door between dorm rooms with Cal Chase. This means she gets a lot more information on him than she’d like, but not all is as she perceives.

There’s also a bit of grumpy/sunshine and forced proximity tropes which I enjoy. Cute, funny, and a little bit sexy. I enjoyed the banter between Cal & a hesitant April. I liked that they got to know each other through lots of conversations. At just over two hours, it was an adorable and enjoyable listen.

Hollie Jackson was wonderful. She has a great voice for the college age of all the characters. I also really liked her male voices too. Her transition between characters voices/accents/emotions was flawless.

Entire series is available on KU. Many thanks to Tara September for giving me a copy of the audiobook - shhhh… nobody tell her I would have bought it anyway because I always enjoy her stories. 😉

Quick Summary: A close quarters, enemies to lovers NA romance

My Review: One More Kiss by Tara September is book one in the Lesson in Love series.

About the Book: When a hot jock meets a short stack English major with an attitude, all bets are off. One kiss is all it takes to leave Cal and April hopelessly in lust. Is it possible for them to have more?

My Final Say: This novella gets a green light for the go! I loved it. Readers who enjoy college romance stories will get this one.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HEA: yes
POV: 3rd person FMC POV
spice: one open-door spicy scene
TWs: n/a
standalone: book 1 in the Lesson in Love series
final thoughts: I’m loving these novellas so much and I hope there are more in the future! This was a great single POV of April as she denies her feelings for Cal until he finally gets her to cave and admit her feelings. Cal is such a sweet MMC, and I was rooting for him from the first introduction. I love seeing them in the other books in the series too since they’re happening on a side-by-side timeline instead of linear.
I don’t typically like the miscommunication trope but it was so silly (and small) in this book and made for a great dislike-to-lovers story arc. I love the characters (main and side) in these books, and I need more! I have unanswered questions and a need for their “5 years later” engaged/married epilogues

One little kiss is all it took to see what all the fuss is about when it comes to campus track star Cal Chase. April has heard all the rumors about him, witnessed some of his late night visitors and she wants nothing to do with him. But when his blaring music sends her to his door it's as if fate put her there... as if someone was trying to tell her something. But she's not so sure she wants to listen to a word they say...

Between the pages of One More Kiss you will meet an unlikely pairing that can't seem to keep their distance from one another. April despises Cal and everything he stands for, but after one unexpected and very heated kiss she can't seem to stop thinking about him. That kiss had some magical power behind it and turned the one guy she can't stand into the one she can't help but want. And that just doesn't make sense!

The moment I met these two I knew their story was going to be one of those that you can't put down, the tension-filled distaste for one another and the powerful connection, it was all a recipe for the perfect enemies to lovers escape... and boy was I right! I devoured this little literary gem in one sitting! My eyes found the words, the wave of emotions hit, their intense connection stirred up tension levels, and I decided then that I wasn't moving a muscle until I'd read every last perfectly penned word! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

When Cal, the hot track star and dorm-mate of April who has been avoiding his player existence invites himself along to watch a meteor shower with a group of her friends she's shocked. Next thing she knows he's kissing her to prove a point. Well he sure proves it and now he seems to pop up everywhere. Things get more confusing when he kisses her again to convince her it wasn't just a fluke the first time. Afterwards there's a constant resistence from her and persistence from him that can only lead to one thing......finally!!!
Loved these two together. The quick comebacks and the steamy lip locks will turn you on by themselves. A short read but not rushed and proves what you see is not always what you get.

April is a bit sour that her plan to live next door to her bestie in a coveted living space on campus was thwarted by her friend transferring to be closer to a boy at another school. She is even more unhappy that her new wall mate is a hottie who she thinks is a player. When Cal decides to join April and her friends when they literally go out stargazing one morning and they kiss and she realizes that his kiss is as sizzling as he is attractive she is thrown. Maybe if she can kiss someone else she will realize it is a fluke. This is such a cute story of people who don't want to finding that they do want one another. This was really a fun read and I liked them both. I especially liked the can't help but want what I don't think I should want part of this story.

April and her friends are going to watch the Leonid meteor shower and Cal decides to tag along. Cal lives in the dorm next to April’s at Tasker Hall on the Thackeray College campus. She might find him attractive, but she thinks he’s a player. Before the meteor shower is over, they share a kiss and what a kiss it was. A kiss is just a kiss or is it? After they share another kiss and it’s just as amazing as first one, she tells Cal she needs to kiss someone else to compare. Cal doesn’t like that idea, lol. Will he ever convince April he’s not a player? Grab your copy and see what happens.

April’s best friend was supposed to be her dorm-mate but instead, she’s stuck with Cal, the campus player and star athlete, who blares music and infuriating decibels and times, and has a never-ending stream of bimbos through his room. When Cal invites himself along with April and some of her friends to watch a meteor shower, she is surprised. Even more so when he kisses her under the stars hoping to prove a point. When he kisses her again later to prove that it wasn’t just a fluke, the sparks start flying more than expected. April is resistant but Cal shows determination to win her over. Their interactions are witty and full of underlying chemistry.

One More Kiss

A wonderful, sweet enemies to lovers story, with a kind of opposites attract feel as well. April and Cal had me wanting their story to just keep going. There were a lot of fun characters, but those two were just what I needed. As I got to peel back the layers of the characters, but especially Cal, I just fell more and more in love with them. Quite a bit of growth for a pretty quick read. I’ll be checking out the next in the series because now I’m hooked.

I was lucky enough to get my copy through a Goodreads giveaway.

One More Kiss is sweet opposites attract story that has a lot of heat and tension as Cal and April banter back and forth as they figure out their feeling.

April thinks Cal is a playboy and just wants to avoid him, but he is good looking. Cal likes April keeps showing up when she least expects it.

Good college romance that you will not want to put down.

Thank you to Tara September for allowing me to listen to a copy of this book. I loved my read of this. It was so sweet, romantic, and THE TENSION between the FMC AND MMC. I loved the story, and it felt like something that would happen irl. It was just so wholesome, and I loved every second of it. Did the fmc sometimes annoy me a tad? Yes, but she made up for it. I cannot wait to read more from Tara September in the future.

short but cute!

The characters were cute! The book was short so it didn't dive into a history on them really. Despite being short, the story didn't feel rushed like a lot of the shorter books do. So I do like that. If you're looking for a quick read and love a cute college sports romance, I highly recommend

This enemies-friends-lovers novella was so heartwarming, sweet, funny and at times frustrating (in a good way);-0!

I loved the way Tara September build the story and their first kiss is so dreamy. I was enthralled by the development of their relationship and that the forced proximity made them realize things about each other that was completely wrong.

I also loved the hero for not giving up on the heroine even though it was very though for him at times and I really felt for him.

I can definitely recommend this novella.

Enemies to lovers plots are almost always fun to read, and this one is no exception. I love the way Cal is persistent without being stalker creepy and the way manages to stick to her stubborn, "I hate this guy" vibe, long after most women would have given in to the attraction between the too. Their chemistry makes for a fun story - all the way to their HEA ending.
In case you can't tell, I liked this one.

It is “Love at First Kiss” in this college romance. This fairly short story is about April and Cal. This is an enemies to so much more story about two roommates and two opposites. This is a entertaining and fun story with some intense chemistry being shared. I like the characters and how their story develops.
