Ravenous dragons descending at night, goblin hordes rampaging across the land, kingdoms collapsing; amidst this cyclone of chaos, one woman rises.
Vyra has always dreamt of joining the renowned Silverclad Knights and becoming a great warrior. The kingdom needs every soldier it can get, having barely survived the war with the dark forces from the wilderness. However, the king of Beckonthrone long ago decreed that only men of noble status may walk the path to knighthood.
As Vyra ventures through the mystical, war-torn lands to prove herself, she unexpectedly captures the eye of the paladin Lord Aldrean, as well as that of his infamous nemesis.
Dark forces are gathering, and terrifying creatures hunt in the night. Vyra’s choices tip the fragile balance of the scales of power. Will she take the first step to becoming a heroic legend, or merely become another casualty claimed by the wilderness?
From scaling ancient temples, to swimming through Ocean reefs, Vinn Winters loves to chase adventure. When he’s not traveling across the world, he has two cats that bully him constantly, reminding him that he probably wouldn’t last five minutes in one of his stories. He enjoys relaxing over a hot cup of coffee, playing cards, video games, or reading a good story.
I enjoyed this book quite a lot, although it is clear the author is still fairly new to writing. The world building in this book is amazing, the way Winters is able to simplify everything and allow the reader to understand the world in which this all takes place, is simply great. It is an easy to follow, fast-paced, short story which sets the scenes for the rest of the series. Winters also includes multiple interesting characters who add to the story, without taking away from the main storyline. While the story telling is good, the dialogue seems to be sub-par, as it feels awkward and forced, nothing like actual speech. Aside from that, the book was fabulous, the main character is a strong-willed woman (imagine Katniss Everdeen or Jude Duarte) who dreams of becoming a knight, and so seeks out a spirit who may be able to help her. Genuinely a very lovely read, and I can't wait to read what else Winters writes.
I love the world this book offers. Vyra is a female’s female in many ways, and she is an inspiration to be a go-getter in several ways more. Her connections to other characters, for better and worse, give us solid insight into how the world reacts to her, too. The ending wrapped up enough lose strings for me, but it entices readers to keep going into the next book, too. I’m excited to see how characters do (or not) achieve a balance between their duties and their dreams. One of the characters mentions early on how there isn’t a chance to move forward without taking risks, and trust me: this author allows his characters to take those chances. If they fall flat on their faces, they don’t do so for long. Keep up the great work, and looking forward to more.
A young servant has dreams of becoming a squire in a city underseige but where only men are allowed to defend it. Her passion pushes her to take chances and seek help from other sources but she is tricked by a revengeful enemy to gain the trust and acceptance of the Knights Leader. This is an excellent story with a creative plot that builds and unfolds throughout the book, keeping your focus and interest piqued. It's easy to read, enjoyable and there is plenty of things happening. The detailed descriptions of characters and scenery easily capture your imagination and the story ends of a cliff hanger that definitely leaves you scrolling the pages of Amazon looking for the next instalment. Good job well done!
