Really like how John Romita Jr draws Thor. Because his artwork can be quite bulky and blocky at times, it's really well suited to a character like Thor. It just fits. The same can be said for the villains of the volume, who are the Evil Gods, I think? They may be new characters created by Jurgens and JRJR or existed ones, but I've never encounted them in a story before so I'm not sure. But much like his Thor, JRJR does these characters quite bulky and it works because they're Gods so they're supposed to be 'larger than life'.

There's also the inclusion of Jake Olsen, which I don't really get. Unlike Donald Blake, Thor has over taken someone's body who has just died, so has to carry on living their life for them when he's not being Thor. I prefer Thor when he's not having to deal with the whole 'secret identity' thing, like in the movies.

Pretty good volume of Thor, even if this volume doesn't really have a complete story arc to it, other than the opening few issues which see The Avengers take on The Destroyer. But Jurgens run on Thor is about 6 years long (apparently). So there is that.

Solide Geschichte.

It’s been a few years since I’ve read a graphic novel and I forgot how fun they can be! This is my first piece of work from the Marvel universe and I am pleasantly surprised! I bought it quite unexpectedly while browsing the local flea market because the price was too good for a brand new comic book! I was already familiar with the story about Thor so this was a great introduction into the universe.

I already bought another graphic novel from this collection so I’ll definitely read more!

Just old Thor adventures like if they were taken from Journey into Mystery, with better drawings and trying to incorporate Alan Moore ideas of how superheroes interact with the real world, but very unsucessfully. Entertaining, though.

This was better than I thought it would be, though if half stars were allowed this would be 3.5 rather than 4.

I am not a great fan of Thor, but he works well when he is dealing with legendary/mythological/magical threats rather than human ones. And this collected series of comics has this in spades as Thor is faced with the mystery of what happened to his beloved Asgard.

I also liked how the writer and the artist handled the interaction of Thor with the mortals of New York. This ranged from Thor's arrogant/god-like behaviour around the normal citizenry through to his camaraderie with his fellow avengers. His new alter-ego has potential also, particularly as there are connections to Jane Foster and his past as Donald Blake—yes, I'm that old.

There was perhaps a little too much gratuitous action for my taste. I won't go into detail to avoid spoilers, but it is this sort of casual violence and destruction that gives me trouble suspending disbelief that there isn't regularly huge numbers of casualties in Marvel's New York. This was brought to my attention in this book particularly because the loss of a life in just this manner was the basis for one of the plot lines.

I also wasn't sure about what they did with Odin. Portraying the All-father with two working eyes seemed very strange to me, because it was supposedly the sacrifice of one of his eyes that is supposed to have given him a lot of his power. Perhaps if I were able to continue reading the series that might have been explained.

Anyway, if you like Thor, then it's probably worth a read. If not then you won't miss much.

(This review may contain spoilers).

I think all of the superheroes in Marvel (and probably DC, too) are quite interesting characters - but my favourite has become and still remains Thor - with Loki being my favourite villain.

This comic book was quite an interesting one. It was nice to see the other Avengers in the book as well. Thor might be more about the muscles and brawn than intelligence, but I do think it's clear how honourable and how much of a good heart he has. And that seems quite clear in this issue.

It was interesting to see the different versions of Thor at the end of the book, too. I also really liked seeing the scene of Thor and Loki as children. I would have liked to see a bit more of their past together. I'm quite intrigued by how their relationship is represented in the fandom.

I did get a bit confused with all of the different gods appearing. It was good to see glimpses of Olympus, too. And I did also like seeing the images of the other Asgardian gods, even though there were only small glimpses.

This definitely makes me want to read more of Thor's comics.

An anthology of the Mighty Thor #1-#7.

This was an enjoyable read. But frustrating as it ends open ended with no resolution to the story lines contained within the volume. Which I believe are in Mighty Thor #8-#12. And what is more frustrating are not included in this series of The Ultimate Graphic Novels Collection! Though it is continued (I think if one of thee reviews on Amazon is to be believed though i think they have the numbering wrong listen it as #9-#13 rather than #8-#12) in The Mighty Thor Vol 2.

This book included the start of Dan Jugerns run. It introduces Jake Olsen as the new mortal guise for Thor. It also introduces the Dark Gods drawn by John Romita Jr in a style reminiscent of Jack Kirby's drawing of the New Gods.
