Dean Morgan is an everyday hero. A well-respected firefighter in a small community, he believes everyone deserves compassion. So when he daringly rescues an unconscious teen from a burning building, the boy’s troubled mother immediately sets his heart ablaze.

Joanne Hamilton fears she’ll never escape her imprisoned husband’s abuse. But when the handsome ladder-man plucks her son from the jaws of death, she’s surprised when his presence stirs more than gratitude. And when she witnesses the gorgeous guy’s kind soul in action, she feels her shattered spirit might just have a chance to mend.

As Dean forms a fatherly connection with the boy, his protective instincts naturally pull them all closer. But when Joanne’s toxic baggage rears its ugly head, she’s terrified her budding attraction isn’t the only thing in danger.

I really liked this one. It was a little different from other firefighter romance that I've read.
I really liked Dean and his family. They really are fun.
I can't wait to see what the other books have in store for the Morgan family.

A series about firefighters who are brothers. It’s not a hardship to read firefighters especially brothers.
Dean’s the eldest and the introvert of the clan. When he saves Thomas from a fire his mother is eternally grateful. The abuse they suffer at the hands of her husband is written on their faces. They can’t just trust freely and rightly so. Dean has a lot of work in front of him. It’s a good read, a little long winded for me but it’s a good start to the series. It has a lot of great characters and I’m eager to read their stories.

Dean the rescuer, fire fighter, dogs & people

Dean has two brothers who are all firefighters and very close, their father died in a fire while working, leaving a wife and the boys who were all devoted to each other. Kind hearted and true members of the community, all single though Dean has been married before. Great story with a happy ending

Dean is the first book in the Morgan Brothers series, a spin-off to Margaret’s Hope River series. You can one hundred percent read it without reading Hope River but if you did, then you will recognize the characters. In Hope River and one town over in Mulberry Point.

Dean comes from a long line of firefighters along with his younger brothers, Alec and Rhett. He works long hours and doesn’t normally date. He isn’t a player either. Just a hard worker who hasn’t found Mrs. Right. He wasn’t even looking when he saw her. A mother determined to save her son from a house fire. He knew in the moment she was a strong and brave woman. After he saves her son from the fire he doesn’t expect to see her again but he couldn’t stay away and she always had other plans. Plans to say thank you…

Joanne just wanted to say thank you to the men and women who saved them from the fire. Cookies, that was all. What she didn’t expect was for it to change her life. An unexpected bond happens right before her eyes and she couldn’t deny that she also felt something for Dean. He made her feel safe. But, she couldn’t trust it. She couldn’t even trust herself after what happened between her and her soon-to-be husband. Even if she did trust Dean, she believed she wasn’t good enough for him. She was damaged goods. An older single mom who didn’t deserve a man like him. Can Dean convince her that she is all he wants? All he needs? Her and her son, Thomas.

I read the Hope River series and I was soooo hoping that Joanne would get her own book and it was so worth the wait. I just loved these two. Joanne and her son deserve the world and so does Dean. Together. I loved getting to know Rhett and Alec more and excited about their books. And their mom? AMAZING! She is so much fun. It was awesome to catch up with the Hope River crew as well.

Quotes:

“Is it hot in here?” I ask, chuckling nervously. My knees feel weak and my lips already miss his.
“Lucky, because I come equipped with a working hose.”
My mouth falls open, and I burst into laughter. “Oh my God! I’m adding that to the cheese fest,” I tease.
“God damn it!” He laughs at himself. “I’m trying to be the sexy fireman. Work with me here, woman. Work. With. Me!” he shouts in a comical way.

“Man, when you realize just how amazing you are, you’ll be unstoppable.”

“You have no shame, Rhett Morgan,” Mom scolds.
“None whatsoever. Not even a tiny amount of dignity. Nothing. Nope,” Rhett agrees.
“Fine,” Mom finally says. Like she’d be able to stop him. “But if your brother decides to kick your ass, I’m not stopping him.”

Love for love’s sake

I have a love of “firemen” stories! Perhaps it’s the adventure, the thrill of the adventure! DEAN, the book, did not disappoint! This was a tender love story about an abused mother and son, who endured years of trauma at the hands of a bully! A bully who for years beat and belittled them both! The insight into what that constant onslaught of pain and fear does to its victims, realism at its best! However the love of a decent, good man makes all the difference in Joanne & Tomas’s lives! And, let us not forget the rescue dog, Tripod, who brought purpose to all their lives!

Beautiful and heartbreaking romance

Joanne and Dean’s story is one that will stick with me for ages to come.

Joanne has come from being mentally and physically abused by her husband for over a decade. She’s had to raise a son while enduring the torture of living with a monster. When Dean and the Mulberry Point Fire Department come and rescue them a fire, Joanne is terrified of what this man could do to her and Thomas.

Dean and his brothers are all firefighters and proud of it. They come from a long line of firefighters and wouldn’t want to be anything else. When Dean helps to rescue Thomas from the fire that nearly took his life, he notices Joanne. Long after the fire, he can’t seem to get Joanne out of his mind. When she comes to the firehouse a few days later with cookies, he knows he has to get to know her and figure out what’s happening.

I absolutely adored this book from start to finish. It has the quips of humour that Margaret is known for writing into her books and also the topics that most authors wouldn’t go near when writing.

This book delves into the world of domestic violence and definitely is not for the faint of heart but it’s absolutely worth finishing the book as you see how much Joanne has overcome. Joanne is filled with fear but also determination to take back her life after escaping the clutches of Damian.

I also love how passionate and kind Dean was. Not only did he pick up a stray dog who was used as bait for dog fights but he also helps to rehabilitate him back to health.

As hard as it was to read some of the scenes of this book, I loved every word! Amazing read and I can’t wait to read the other brothers stories as well!

First time I am reading a Margaret McHeyzer book and I will definitely be reading more

Loved the slow burn . Joanne is a damaged soul with a son whom she loves above all. Dean is a man who finds that he has a healing love for them both ❤ 😎😎😎🤓

A continuation of characters from the amazing Hope River series, Dean is the first instalment of Mulberry Points hot firefighting brothers and their stories.

We met Joanne and her family in the Hope River series, and it was fabulous to see she got a book of her own. Coming from an abusive relationship, she has built a life with her son, 15 year old Thomas after running from the clutches of her husband and finds it extremely difficult to trust anyone.

Dean and his brothers Rhett and Alec are called in to a house fire, saving a trapped Thomas from near death and from there, a budding relationship grows. Dean is ever so cautious and patient while he earns the trust of both Joanne and Thomas as well as an abused dog that is found on the side of the road.

I really enjoyed the back story to this book. The author has done a great job in her research on abusive behaviours and portrayed this well. I fell in love with Deans family, I loved hearing from old characters such as May, Hope, River and Tabitha while meeting new ones in Penny, Hugo and Elise.

A really great start to what I know will be a great trilogy of books!

Heartwarming

When I started to read this book, I was expecting it to be boring. Boy, was I wrong. The book is well written, with humor, love and many other emotions. Take time to read the whole story, you won't be disappointed.

great read

This is such a great story. Domestic abuse is horrible and between the beatings and mental abuse this woman rose above the accusations and fear to protect her son and herself. Dean was portrayed as a wonderful, warm and tolerant man to deserve a wonderful family.

This is such an inspiring story! Its very enjoyable! The characters are wonderful and have some depth to them. I think my fav characters is Thomas! He understands the severity of their plight but at times we see that fun in him as well. I also enjoyed Dean immensely. He had his silly times that contradict his working life. I loved that he stepped up for Thomas and even ended up helping out Joanne. I think they were both surprised over and over when people helped them instead of hurt them.

Secondary characters are so much fun! I already mentioned Thomas so lets move on to Dean’s family. His brothers are interesting and I love how they all work and play together including the brotherly scuffles now and then. His mother is great. I also enjoyed the nod to the Hope River series.

Overall this is a great first book in the series. The author does a good job of blending all of these characters and stories together. I am guessing Alec is next…I look forward to seeing his story.

I read it. Not sure if I will continue on with the other two books in the series.

Joanne is a survivor of absolute domestic abuse. She was able to get out with her almost 16 year old son, Thomas. Dean feel drawn to her, after saving her son in a house fire. As they fall in love, she struggles to see her own worth. Their age difference seems to be a big issue with her. Let alone how her husband had conditioned her to behave and think.

I dropped my rating to a 2 star because I felt that the author either didn't understand the mentality of a DV survivor or she thinks everyone reacts the same way in these situations.

putting out fires and rebuilding lives

After Dean saves Thomas from a house fire, he finds himself drawn to Joanne and her son. But something is wrong, both Joanne and Thomas appear on edge, while any time Dean even comes close Joanne closes up and Thomas goes on the defensive. Dean isn’t backing away; he will bid his time until he can get Joanne to open up to him.
Joanne married an abusive older man at fifteen. She and Thomas lived with a monster for too many years to take the chance that there may be good people out there, now that they have escaped him. If only they could be totally free.

This is a story that can draw you in but, it also begs questions of how people might allow themselves to be abused to the point of shear terror. You’ll get some answers, find characters that you could easily befriend, romance with an understanding, caring, sexy guy and a some very spicy bits.

A new author for me. Made me laugh out loud, made me want to talk to them and offer advice but mostly it kept me turning the pages to find out more. Dean is a firefighter, even though his father died in a fire, and so are his brothers. He’d been married before and thought he’d not ever get a second chance at romance. When he meets Joanne and her son Thomas, he realises they’re running from something or someone, their spirits are broken and are unused to anyone doing anything for them. As Dean and the community rally round, a relationship appears on the cards…and every so often you think this is it…but twists and turns follow, surprises and unexpected humour. Loved this book and will definitely be looking out for book 2.

Ehh...slow reader.

I really wanted to like this one and possibly went in with expectations too high but it really took me a long time to get into this book and even then I'm not sure if I was ever really ever into it. It was quite cheesy and had a lot of bickering brothers and other characters. If you like a love story that's predictable this one is for you. Unfortunately i may not be reading the next two in the series.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The last thing Dean thinks he is going to get when he saves a teenage boy from a house fire is a ready made family.
Joanne and Thomas have been through hell at the hands of her husband, the abuse that they have had is unthinkable.
Joanne takes cookies to the fire house to thank the fire fighters for saving Thomas, and Thomas immediately falls for Dean's dog.
Dean has a long road ahead when OT comes to Joanne but he is kind and patient so she co.es around.

Dean: A Firefighter Romance (Morgan Brothers Book 1)

I have never read a book written by this Author, Margaret McHeyzer but I will be reading the series in the near future, as in, as soon as I can get it downloaded. I think the series will be as exciting and fun filled as Dean’s story. Rather raunchy to. Made me laugh made me cry in some places. Made me mad at some of the characters which all added to the enjoyment. I can recommend this book to Adults.

Recovery from trauma

Recovery from trauma takes time, patience, and the love and understanding of a good man in this book. You get to hear the "rest of the story" about Joanne and her son Thomas. You will see them both struggle and triumph in the book. Of course, Dean is in the right place at the right time to rescue Thomas from a burning home and falls in love with Joanne and her son. 📚🎉❤️🌻

Hard DNF. I totally felt for Joanne but honestly the constant reminder and super minimal growth wasn't doing it for me. Not that it's easy to move on from trauma, for the sake of the book I would've just liked a little more progress before getting 17 chapters in.

This is a very long, but well written book. There is a lot of character building, which I enjoy, but it just takes you a while to get into the meat of the story. However, I loved all the characters and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
