Musician Peter Bailey is the reluctant son of a cattle rancher living in Orion, Nebraska. When a prairie fire destroys his family’s ranch and half the town, he flees to the West Coast to finally chase his own dreams.
San Diego artist Hope Rosenberg lives an idyllic life as a doctor’s daughter, until the day her mother disappears. When Peter arrives on the scene, he seems ready to offer her the one thing she’s always a happy family.
Then Peter inherits what’s left of the family’s cattle ranch, and he and Hope head home to take care of his mother and the land. Hope can’t help but fall in love with her new community, and tries to put the memories of how she failed her own family behind her. But as they join in efforts to help rebuild the small town, Hope and Peter both find themselves sifting through the broken pieces of the past. When Peter’s big secret comes out, Hope is faced with a Will she run away from the pain? Or will she and Peter fight for a better future… together?
A beguiling romance lovingly told, The Inheritance meets readers at the intersection of tested love and slow restoration. Costea weaves her debut with an artistic sensibility and an open heart that is sure to find a “keeper shelf” place alongside Cynthia Ruchti, Jolina Petersheim and Francine Rivers. The Inheritance isn’t merely a story rather a rallying cry to fight for love, encouragement and hope. —Rachel McMillan, author of The London Restoration and The Mozart Code
This is one amazing book the author did a remarkable job on this book . It’s a page turner and one you don’t want to put down . It’s the story about Peter and a terrible fire and wanting to leave Nebraska. Then there’s Hope an Artist from California. How does God take these two and turn their world upside down . You’ll have to read this book . I highly recommend it.
I loved this book! The friendships and relationships are truly relatable. Such an encouraging read and reminder that God is in the business of creating beauty from ashes. Hope and Peter felt like my friends. I thoroughly enjoyed reading their story and was brought both to smiles and tears many times throughout the book. Highly recommend!
A light, clean romance, but with all kinds of problems from the beginning...even a prairie fire! Peter and Hope are two imperfect people learning how to love and compromise during their hard first year of marriage. Quick, easy read. I enjoyed it very much.
I don't write a lot of reviews, but this book was so good. I can't wait to read more. To the author- please make it a series 🙏. About the book itself: it is a love story of course, but unlike the typical characters that are just a little too perfect and put together Hope and Peter go through real life challenges and have to figure out how to deal with both the mundane little daily challenges and the big life altering ones. It is a fresh and unique look at a familiar storyline and like the BEST books points to redemption and Jesus for the daily. I have read a LOT of novels and this one is so fresh and unique and yet SO relatable. Highly recommend reading this novel!
This book is a Gem!! I didn’t want to put it down! It took me by surprise a few times and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. It was very relatable and even convicted me as a wife at times. I hope to see more from this author in the future!
Who it may interest: Anyone who wants to get a peek of life in Nebraska on a farm. Those who love a good story of redemption.
Story: This was a sweet story of a city girl and a country boy’s life coming together….then wading through hard times together. The author did really well painting scenes and I really felt I was where the characters were. I also loved how she wove in scripture in the characters lives and how they lived it out even when it wasn’t easy to live out. I absolutely love books that walk through hard things, stories of struggle and redemption. This was that kind of book! I did struggle to resonate with some of the characters actions, they felt a bit abrupt. I would have loved some of the harder scenes to be developed a bit more. Overall this was a great story and I enjoyed it!
Ease of reading: Easy
Main takeaway: There is power in gentle, not condemning words…even if it seems the person deserves it. There is also power in boundaries.
** I used to give 5 stars to every book I read because I was so proud of the author for writing a book, but that doesn’t quite feel right. I also don’t love rating books because lower reviews seem hurtful, like the rater is saying it’s a bad book. So after long wrestles with these thoughts I’ve settled on rating books based on how they resonated with me personally. Just because they did or didn’t resonate with me doesn’t mean they will or won’t with another person. My 3 star may be your 5 star so I try to leave details in the review that will help someone else find their next favorite book….what can resonate with them! My rating of the book is not the determining factor if it should be read. I’m proud of anyone who’s an author and cheer them on in their unique style. My rating does not say anything about the book or authors skill level, merely how it resonated in my heart.
"The Inheritance" is a story that will draw you in. I was able to read the first 6 chapters early and connected with the characters inside. I hope that I will soon have opportunity to get a copy for myself and finish the story, updating my review in time. Hope and Peter are overcomers, a theme which never gets old for me. Will their restoration bring them together or drive them apart?
This is a new author to me, but Costea has a down to earth writing style that is real, approachable and endearing to the characters and their respective plights. I enjoyed the faith elements and scenery which drew me into the story. Once you start reading, it will be difficult to quit! I look forward to future work from this author.
I was an early reader, thanks to the publisher. All opinions are my own.
This book was a thrilling, page turning journey from beginning to end as the Author tells the tale of God taking two lives and setting them on paths that only He could. It will make you smile and maybe even shed a tear or two. I thought the Author did a great job creating real-life and believable characters and I really appreciated that.
If you enjoy Christian Fiction - definitely check out this book!
I look forward to hopefully future titles from this Author.
I really loved this story! The turn of events took me by surprise more than once but I loved the conclusion. We all face conflict and doubt, but turning to God and having grace is a valuable way to face the conflict. Hope and Peter made their way into my heart....and may have helped with a lesson or two about marriage. This was an easy, enjoyable read with a great message of promise and hope!
This was a quick read for me because it was so hard to put the book down. The story is beautiful and touched my heart. It made me consider how I treat my family and others as well as how life-giving forgiveness is. It is definitely worth reading!
Laura Costea provided the perfect get away for this stay at home mama. I enjoyed stealing away moments to enter into another world filled with love and reality. I highly recommend this book to read or to gift to someone else. It is not a complicated read but it is captivating.
Fans of Christian Romance have a new author to follow. Laura introduces you to imperfect characters with an imperfect love story all while keeping it clean. Personally, I loved the people of Orion, Nebraska and hope Laura will develop those characters in her next book.
What a pageturner! Costea is a master of tension! I loved the story, the characters, and the landscapes she painted with her words. I appreciate when Christian fiction is not preachy or trite. The Inheritance is neither, but it is still full of truth and beauty. Read it!
This book was outside of the typical genre that I read. I found the story really beautiful and the writing well done. A great story of forgiveness and grace
During this crazy time we are living in it was nice to sit and read this story. The struggles and disappointments of life and relationships can sometimes be so difficult but with work and faith there is always hope. The story of these two hits home with a lot of people. Glad I read it.
