It’s the TMNT event of 2020! Springing from the minds of TMNT co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird comes an epic like you've never seen before! In a future NYC far different than the one we know today, a lone surviving Turtle goes on a seemingly hopeless mission to obtain justice for his fallen family and friends. Kinetic layouts from Eastman, moody inks from Andy Kuhn and a thrilling script full of surprises from longtime TMNT scribe Tom Waltz all combine to make this one of the most memorable TMNT stories you will ever read! This is a perennial TMNT tale that can't be missed!
A really good first issue. It's a return to the dark, gritty tone of the original Eastman and Laird comics. Set in the future, only one turtle is still alive. We don't know which one as he now wears a black mask and carries all his brothers weapons in addition to his own. The issue is very action oriented. I wasn't familiar with the Escorza brothers' art before, but it was fantastic. Can't wait for the next issue.
My only complaint is the oddball size of the comic. It's just tall enough to not fit into a long box standing up and also slightly wider than a normal comic. But it's smaller in width than magazine size. It fits very loosely in a magazine size bag and board and slides around because it's an inch smaller in width. Storing it is a pain in the rear.
I've been a fan of the turtles since the beginning, though I confess I've kept only loosely since their return to the comics world some years ago, though this title and the addition of a new turtle(!!) have definitely piqued my interest anew.
The premise of this was too good to pass up, and if the first issue is an indicator, they have a smash hit on their hands! This was an engrossing read, and one that has me eagerly awaiting the rest of the series! (And THAT does not happen too often of late for me!)
Highly recommended, even for those with little to no knowledge of the Turtles mythology.
I was so hiped when I saw this came out. I was always a fan of TMNT from young age. Unfortunately I don't read or follow this franchise anymore like when I was younger. But when I saw this it really caught my attention.
To summarize this really exciting and dark comic. Ronin is a story of a turtle one of four brothers. On he's journey to avenge his dead brothers. The story takes far into the future. Manhattan is surrounded by walls and it's under political control of Shredders ancestor Oroku Hitoro ( i think he's grandson). One of the ronin turtle breaks into the city and saw how far everything changed under Hitoro's control. He sneaks into Oroku's main headquarters fight some new improved foot solder's but was soon overpowered by the number of the solder's. Wounded and damaged he escaped into the sewers where the most emotional moment of the comic happens. Ashamed that he didn't manage to revenge his brothers and let them down. In a style of ronin he put a sword up he's chest and tried to do a suicide. But from too much blood lost he fainted before he even manage to kill himself.
I was intrigued who was the last ronin turtle out of the four brothers. I thought I had to read all 3 issues of the comic so it could be revealed the name of the turtle that is the last ronin. But the reveal is actually at the end of this issue. I don't wanna spoiled anything by revealing which one of the turtles is the ronin you have to see it for yourself. 😉 5/⭐
4.5 stars. Man I was really into this. The book hits the ground running. Our Last Ronin has his eye set on his target and is full steam ahead. Great art and action packed. After what happened at the end, looks like now the real journey begins.
Awesome look at the creative process behind The Last Ronin. I’m so excited to see how this wraps, as I’m a pretty big TMNT fan, so I’ll be rereading and reviewing all the issues individually soon. This and the Director’s Cut issues are nifty little one-shots.
Go on. Rip my heart out that’s ok. I didn’t need it.
A promising start to a new series. Well drawn and nicely scripted. Couple of good twists already and I’m looking forward to the next issue. I can’t say too much without spoilers, but if you’re a comic fan, or Turtles fan this will please.
Bam! :)
Hiç bir fikrim olmadan başladım. TMNT’ye dair öyle uzman bilgim, takibim yok. Çocukluktan kalanlar daha ziyade. Bir ara arkabahçe bir şeyler basmıştı. Sevmemiş, elden çıkarmıştım. Bu fasiküllerin ilkini beğendim.
I love it. first of all, I like the story and also how it like just goes into a random turtle and how it does not tell you which one it is I am also wondering how is April because it looks like it has been a long time since they got flying care already, and is this guy shredders grandson, wow I mean like so yeah the book is awesome bro like I recommend this book. I also wonder what happened to the other ninja turtles I know they died but how, so I really want to see how they died, that is my review of the last ronin book 1.
If you like comics and you like ninja turtles then this is a must read. I picked up the first issue for a friend and read it myself before delivering it and now I'm totally hooked. 90's nostalgia helps, but I think it stands on it's own as well if you didn't grow up with TMNT.
It’s been years since I read a Turtle title, but they had me at the title and I stayed because it’s damn good! The reveals at the end were bittersweet because on one end the reveal was awesome, but on the other it took a lot of the first book’s intrigue away from it. I like the greyed out turtle because it could be all of them and none of them at the same time. Otherwise, great book and I look forward to the continuation of this arc.
Do czasu, aż natrafiłem na jedną z najnowszych serii - "The Last Ronin"!
Doskonały i mocno zachęcający początek cyklu!
Only one turtle remains of the original four. He’s on a mission to avenge his fallen brothers against the leader of the Foot Clan, Oroku Hiroto, grandson of Oroku Saki (the Shredder).
In this first of five books, the last brother attempts to make his away to the top of Horoto’s tower. He struggles against the high tech security robo-ninjas and updated mousers. His mission falls flat, when he crashes back to the ground, failing his mission.
He drags himself down to the sewer to pass on to the afterlife, but before he can leave this world, a familiar face comes to the rescue. Michelangelo lives another day.

There's really nothing great about this book to warrant the 70 covers that the industry is scalping us for. It had action, but not a ton of story. Maybe I need more Turtles backstory from the IDW runs. Probably would have rated down the middle (3 stars) if it weren't one of the worst exclusive variant offenders of the year. The additional 69 covers easily made more profit than cover A which helps the actual writers and artists get paid instead of predatory shop owners.
Blurb: No half-measures in this story about a Turtle in a half-shell.
An exciting, gritty and gripping opening salvo in what I hope would be a welcome addition to the TMNT canon. The essence of the story is very much rooted in a time when the Turtles only existed in the pages of comic-books and were yet to be the cultural-phenomenon that they are known as today.
The artwork is neat and motion-heavy and despite its dark tone there's enough of 'half-shell humor' to remind everyone that they're in the Turtle-Zone. Can't wait to read issue #2
A fitting ending to many decades of TMNT stories. This is clearly inspired by Frank Millers works. Strong Batman and Sin City vibes. SPOILER: Overall it’s a heartbreaking tale of the deaths of all 4 ninja turtles (not teenagers anymore!) and the sacrifices they make to end the reign of Shredders grandson in NYC.
