In the hospital, fighting for her life after being brutally raped, stabbed, and left for dead, 19-year-old Sarah Lawrence learned she was pregnant. After much soul-searching, she decided to give life to her baby and life in prison to her rapist. Unfortunately, after serving less than two years, her rapist is released on a technicality and is suing for joint custody of “their” child. With the law firmly on his side, the question becomes how far is Sarah willing to go to prevent him from becoming a permanent fixture in their lives?

Basically, a male fantasy woman turned into the patron saint of the US. The "single, working mom". Pun intended. This gorgeous, unfortunate woman, who is trying to support her child and herself, is unable to do so due to the vindictive mother of the man who raped her. She does the "right thing" by not having an abortion, even though most women would have and tries to provide a living. BUT... each time she gets a job, the harridan (aforementioned mother of rapist) sees to it that she loses her job. What can she do? She connives and sees to it that justice is eventually served. She is of course, drop-dead gorgeous and completely irresistible to any man. Just to make it perfect, her best friend/nanny, etc. has a crush on her. This book has all the elements that any man would love in a woman, but as a woman myself, I found her completely unrealistic and boring. After I couldn't stand it any more, I flipped to the end, saw what happened, which didn't surprise me at all, and have now listed it on Amazon to be sold. Maybe someone else will find it interesting. I didn't.
I have read every book by John Locke, and was hooked from the first page of the first book. Fast paced, twists and turns, interesting, but always likeable characters, and always a punch line at the end of the story.
Lately, however, I thought his star was beginning to wane. Still the same twisted plots and taut writing, but too much needless and bizarre sex, totally unbelievable characters, and story lines that left me feeling Locke was running out of fresh ideas and was relying on the shock factor to retain his audience.
Not so with this book. A well crafted story, funny likeable characters, with a plot that fairly zips along. Farfetched but doable, with enough spice thrown in to make this one his best books yet.
I have read all or almost all of a John Locke's books. Beginning with "Follow the Stones" and this one. Locke is a great at storytelling and writes with a rye sense of humor. He always has great characters and twists and turns. I have never given any of his books less than a "5" any rating.
Until now!But this one was not up to his usual state d
This book was very entertaining - almost fun to read. Almost, because it dealt with some troubling action by a man to a woman. But, in the end two thumbs up for the woman!! Sarah Lawrence is beautiful and smart. Bad things have happened to her but it doesn't hold her down. She's tough and knows how to deal with adversity. You may not agree with her life choices but you won't be able to deny her the respect she deserves. Very entertaining!!
I'm always amazed at the number of twists John Locke can put in one book. The second thing: how he can make you like characters that basically have no redeeming qualities. Yet you find yourself hoping that they'll somehow pull ahead in the end. Truly amazing.
I love the complicated plots, the totally credible but absurd characters that John Locke creates for his readers! I find myself totally involved with his characters and can’t wait to see where all this craziness is going! What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon on the sofa…almost as good as anonymous sex in an airport bathroom!
This book is a very good read. It has a good ending, you just have to keep track of all the players and twist. It Is just like John Locke to keep you entertained. Hope to read more like it.
Mr. Locke rocked it again. Great pace, millions of turns and switchbacks. What an exciting ride, so much fun. Not to be greedy, but I can’t wait until the next one.
Not one of his best, and he's written some GREAT books
This book was lacking the dry wit and sarcastic humor from the other books. It had the usual Locke theme of the woman who's so gorgeous that both men and women want to do be with her, but the story was not as addictive as his other stories. This is the first Locke book I didn't devour in a few hours.
There is something about the way he writes, and his mastery of dialogue that makes me not want to put the book down. his characters are always creative and Sarah is no exception. Wild, crazy and witty to no end, Sarah steals the show. Crazy twists and turns makes me sometimes wonder if Locke just makes things up as he goes along. Doesn't really matter, though, since he always weaves plausible endings. Hope to see Sarah in future books because her character is a winning one. Keep up the great work, John.
