Dominion, won’t let his second chance go to waste. He lost his soulmate once and now Dominion is determined to keep Pani safe and far from danger, no matter what needs to die to make that happen.
A love unrequited...
Pani has spent his entire existence pining for his mate’s touch. The years without Dominion were hard, but Pani got through them with the hope that one day, his warrior would return.
Forced into combat...
Dominion would let the world burn if it meant protecting Pani, but the ones responsible for breaking their curse will put it back together if the soulmates refuse to fight the insidious evil threatening to enslave every human—and shifter—on earth.
The soulmates need the power of their pack to save humanity from the demons trying to bring hell to the human realm. And when a mission goes awry, and Pani loses all memory of his mate, Dominion will have to discover why Pani loved him in the first place if he wants a chance at making his mate fall in love with him a second time.
Can a love that was once instant be earned?
Pride is the first book in the Wolves of Resurrection Road series. It is an action-packed, swelteringly hot, surprise mpreg romance that introduces a world of mystery, mayhem, and magic.
Series in the Wolves of World Wolves of Walker County Wolves of Royal Paynes Demon of Royal Paynes
"We've been mates since just after the dawn of time."
Ever since I read the free novella Oblivion, (which can be found on the authors website) I knew I had to have more of Pani and Dom. When I saw they were getting a full length novel to start off the new Wolves of Resurrection Road series you can bet your ass I was ecstatic. Can you imagine a love that's lasted what amounts to thousands of lifetimes? Pani and Dom have been in love since before humanity even began, though much of that time was spent with Dom oblivious to who Pani was. It was cruel punishment from the archangels given because one of their precious Guardians fell in love. To separate these two mates, Dom without memories and Pani with them all was horrific and makes me really hate them. Pani is such a sweet soul, and I can't imagine what it must have been like watching his mate throughout the centuries living different lives, loving different people. My heart broke for him.
However, now it appears it's Dom's turn to hold all the memories because in this book Pani is the one to lose himself. Just when Dom and Pani finally make it back to each other this happens. I felt for them as a couple. They just can't catch a break. On top of all this, these two have to find out how to protect the world from the escaped demon kings. Of course that means we get some Claus time and I will never be sorry for that. He's such a fun demon and I'm still hoping his buddy Dante gets his own book because I adore him and also so we get more peeks into Claus and Jake's ongoing relationship.
We also get to know a little more about the Mercenaries we've seen from time to time with the Walkers and Royal Paynes pack. They certainly are a close knit group of three. I have a feeling their books are going to be the ones this spin off series follows. Then again, the major threat is not gone at the ending when we leave Pani and Dom so you never know if we will be getting more of them. My favorite parts had to be when Pani and Dom finally reunite with the Royal Paynes pack in their human forms and see their soulbonded humans again. I was bummed when it didn't end up happening in the novella, so I was glad we got to see that in this one. I'm also dying to know who's book is next!
I am completely awed at the way that Kiki keeps building this world and creating such an intricate and interesting landscape with such wonderful stories within. While this could technically be read as a standalone, I would suggest reading all the shared world books first as it might get confusing as to who’s who and why things are the way they are. Once you’ve finished that, you’ll be all set up to enjoy this absolutely lovely story. My heart broke for both Pani and Dom as each had to deal with the unimaginable of their soul mate having no idea who they were, it was so painful. Add the fact that the world is dealing with some pretty wild things that could lead to the end of everything, and tensions are so incredibly high. Through it all, you can see and feel the love and bond these two have and it’s more than enough to have you rooting for their HEA. Reading this book made me sad it just came out because I’m already jonesing for the next one!
this was amazing.. this author does such an amazing job with their writing.. it was sexy and action packed.. interesting and curious.. kept me guessing and wanting more. it was amazing and wonderful
Pride is the first book I read by this author and I loved it. Dominion and Pani's relationship is captivating and sweet that grabs you from the first chapter. They feel so real that their joy and worries become part of you. The story has twists that leave you with your mouth open and keep you on the edge of the seat and you are left knowing what is going to happen. I must admit that at first I was lost in history, but it was easy for me to connect and understand what was happening. Mythology is interesting and you want to know everything about this world. Pride led the way to read the stories that are part of this incredible world and I can't wait to read the continuation.
I love Dominion and Pani. I hate what they had to go through before this book happened, and some of what happens in this book made me mad, but overall, I loved it, and I can't wait for more of this series.
I have really enjoyed all the previous related books and series involving the Walker pack and Royal Paynes pack. I thought the book immediately before this one (Diabolical) was genius.
Unfortunately, this one was a bit too complicated for me to be able to dive right in and really get into the story. I had to take multiple breaks to work through the first half of this book. The world building and lore being established got so involved that I had trouble keeping up. Given that I had read all related books, I was surprised to see that this book pretty much opens entirely new multi-level dimensions into an already complicated world.
The level of world building reminded me reading non-romance sci-fi type books. It is far, far more involved than we typically see in a mm paranormal romance. It is miles beyond what we normally find in a mpreg.
I believe the layers that had to be explained took the author a bit out of the story as well. It seemed to be like trying to weave an encyclopedia into a romance.
Just to be clear - the romance was definitely there. But there were points where the characters struggles were just almost too much for me deal with when already trying to stay afloat in a new world with multiple new characters and an multi-layer universe.
I just feel it was too much material, too much world building, and too many new characters pushed into too little room. It made my mind feel too bogged down to really escape into the story. I felt as though I needed to take notes to keep track.
All that being said - I am giving it four stars because the potential of this series is amazing and I’m already eagerly awaiting the next book. I am even thinking I may try a reread of this one now that I have a better grasp of it all. (Perhaps everything not being new will help it gel better in my head.) I felt the last half of the story moved better (after world building and new characters were better established) and it left me happy with the conclusion of this story. I just didn’t anticipate needing to have my thinking cap on so tight to read this book.
I'll start with the good. The story was engaging, the premise was intriguing and I was rooting for Dom and Pani the whole damn time. Did I have to suspend disbelief *a lot* of the time? Yes. But the fact that I still really enjoyed this book is a testament to the author and their writing! The book was fast paced and held my attention throughout!
Now, the bad. This was billed as the first book in a series and the author is one I hadn't read before. I *did* read the free short story that leads into this book and I STRONGLY encourage you to do so as well- otherwise you'll be hopelessly lost (it's linked to at the start of this book). The issue is even after I read the short story, I was *still* lost.
There was next to no explanation of who these characters were, how they were connected and what their significance was other then a random sentence here or there. Clearly this series is an off-shoot of another (something I didn't realize going in) and I feel like I would have enjoyed this book so much more having read those books.
That said, once I got past my frustration (about 15% into the book), I found myself sucked in and happily to go along for the ride! So this book gets a solid 3-3.5 rating from me.
This book was okay. I haven’t read any of the author’s other books set in this world and I feel like that would have helped to better understand what was going on. I did read the prequel which helped a little bit. I wish that there had been some more explanation towards the beginning of this book about some of the history and terminology. The glossary should be moved to the front of the book.
Overall, I found this book confusing. I likely won’t read anything more in the series as I also had a hard time connecting with the characters because I was so busy trying to figure out what was going on. I even thought about not finishing the book a couple times but I did kinda like Pani a little so I hung in.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and thought it was a great start to the series. I loved the connection between Dominion “Dom” and Pani that spans multiple lifetimes even if Dom didn’t recognise Pani as his mate and was absolutely horrible to him because of the punishment they both received for falling in love, that Dom would be soul blind and therefore he couldn’t see that Pani meant absolutely everything to him. I loved seeing some of the Walker County Wolves especially Nana and Dom and Pani’s Pack members from Royal Paynes Pack especially their soul bonded Faust and Quinlan. Claus and Jake were featured the most in this book and I loved how supportive Jake was being when Pani lost his memories due to the Demon Nazley’s influence and Dom scared him as he kept on getting flashes of their previous lives without getting any context and all he saw was Dom being horrible to him. Man, Gavrel was so mission focused that he was an a*se most of the time and I wanted to hit him, so I can just imagine how Dom felt. Ford was great thought. I loved getting to meet Mongoose “Abel if you’re Pani”, Badger “Mateo if you’re Pani” and Camel properly after meeting them briefly in the Wolves of Walker County Series and loved that they get their own stories as they’re reunited with their Soul Mates since they were Dom’s Soul Warrior Brothers’ in their original lives which they’ve forgotten who or what they are due to being punished like Dom and Pani just differently. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series when it’s released as their fight continues with the Demons’ and I wonder who out of Abel, Mateo or Camel will be next to be reunited with their Soul Mate and hopefully start believing what they’ve been told about who and what they are or were in their original lives. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.
I have to go back and finish reading The Royal Paynes, and I'm excited to do so. I was excited for these series to begin with but you know how life sometimes gets in the way. Well, I've gotten a chance to get back in these series and I couldn't be more excited. And the first full novel, (you need to read Oblivion, which I think is Bookfunnel or Prolific), starts with a bang.
I love paranormal stories so, so much and this series has just been a dream because the author takes what is a 'normal' paranormal thing and expands on it so much. And I LOVE that. Paranormal can be what you make it and in any of Kiki Burrelli's books, it's been an adventure. Each and every journey brings something new and exciting and you know it's pretty much going to end with an HEA, but it's the little twists and turns that make it a whole lot more interesting.
And this had some doozies. But it had some trying times as well. I felt so much for Pani having to go through what he did throughout his lifespan. And for Dominion to only get a small glimpse of it and get how much Pani had to go through broke my heart. I also have to admit, Gavrel pulled it better together at the end but I still want to smack him silly. But I love the bonds in these guys too. It's not just one pack here and one pack there. They've become a family. And because Pani and Dominion feel they need to help their new roommates, more family and ties are being made. Doesn't mean life is going to be easier, but considering who is coming along for these rides…? It's about to get a WHOLE lot more interesting.
There's just so much about this book I love. The action, the connections, the angst, the bonds and family. I can't go into too much more of a detail because if I do, I will give too much away. But if you've read the other series, you don't want to miss out on this new one either.
Like dual phoenixes their love is found and lost many times over. Their love comes with a heavy price that's paid over & over again through the years. Dominion aka/Dom and Pani (pronounced Paw knee) have lived as "Dog" with his wraiths but only Pani remembers every instance. Pani has finally lured Dom into the Winterland where the Cathedral was to conquer that which subjugated their lives on the cursed repeat cycle of a washing machine. Both are led here by Gavrel the archangels' proxy for this Other world. Pani has the special eighth sense power of soul sight and as a sleeping cherub his power is needed to overcome Evil existing in the Cathedral. Dom meets Ulric, a fellow soul warrior from his first life, but Ulric now carries a withered muscular appearance with the sagging skin of old age. Each was made to serve in the same elemental unit but now Ulric exists "doing Light's will." Light as the hand of the archangels gave the existing universe immense power to these celestial beings. There is a lot to assimilate with this story but there are funny light moments to assuage the serious moments ( a bit of snark). This 1st book of "Wolves of Resurrection Road" is very complex. Characters from the other House of Payne books are interspersed throughout and play important roles in this new book. I'm so grateful for the author providing the prequel Oblivion link to familiarize the reader with this plot and the initial character glossary at the end of this work. I was given an ARC via Bookfunnel from an author link for my review.
Dom and Pani's story was unlike anything I've read before, and I found their journey captivating. I definitely had to power through my confusion at the beginning of this book, because the first several chapters were a whirlwind of new information that I had a hard time wrapping my head around. I would recommend reading some of the other series in this shared universe before starting this one, because without that context I found it difficult to keep up. Once I got a handle on the main characters and their motives, I did really enjoy the way Dom and Pani's romance unfolded. Their soulmate bond had been present since the beginning of time, but in a lot of ways they were still so new to being together. It was fascinating to see how the burden of Pani's memories and Dom's fierce protectiveness shaped their relationship. On top of that, the two of them had to tackle some seriously terrifying threats. I'm still not sure I completely understand the whole archangels vs demons struggle, but I can't deny that their clashes were adrenaline-inducing to read about. Even when I wasn't sure who all the pack members were, I was rooting for them to come out on top. Seeing the way Pani and Dom evolved throughout this story was thrilling, and I was so excited to see their relationship shift from protector/protected to a bond between equals. I don't know if I'd read the next book in this series without catching up on the older stories, but what a fantastic way to kick off a new adventure!
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
I loved the continuation of this story. This can be read as a standalone but to understand the characters and how they came to be here i suggest reading the other books before this one to understand. This includes Wolves of Walker County (not required but many of the characters make an appearance), Wolves of Royal Paynes (both MC are in thus series in a different capacity), also I would read Oblivion Soul Warriors (this explains how the MC came to be), Lastly we can't forget Clause in Demon of Royal Paynes. I suggest reading them in this order to be caught up on the story.
Now for my review. I absolutely love this story. I enjoyed seeing old characters come to life. I look forward to reading about the Warriors and how they come to find their mates and pack. I am also looking forward to seeing more of Claus and Jake I absolutely love these two and hope they have another book or are featured in future books.
I leave my review here because I dont want to give away any of the story.
Nothing is as it seems. Pani and Dominion are soulmates. They loved deeply, passionately and unconditionally. The archangels brought Dom and Pani back to humanoid physical entities, where they hoped to live happily. They had a history of several past lives with Pani watching Dom live, fight and create families. It was extreme torture for Pani, although Dom didn't seem to remember many. The archangels, had a mission for Dom and Pani. If they didn't accept, they would lose their physical forms. Even thought this is a new series, it's obvious the reader should read previous series to get an understanding of the world, all the characters and the relationships. Did Pani and Dom accomplish their mission? What is the fallout from their activities? Lots going on. I had to read the story several times to understand the moving parts. Nice story. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Dominion and Pani have been cursed for their love. When the two finally are able to fight their way to that love again nothing will stand in their way. Will this be the time that they are strong enough or will they continue to be kept apart forever?
Talk about emotions! I loved Dominion and Pani’s story. I am glad that they got their happy ever after. The two are good together and I enjoyed being along for the ride. Their story pulled me in right from the start and I loved seeing everyone come together. The love between Pani and Dominion is strong and shows in all that they do. Although this is the first book I would advice reading previous books and especially the prequel to get a better understanding of these characters and their story. The author does a wonderful job of weaving a beautiful story full of emotion and action that keeps you turning the pages and wanting more.
Dominion and Pani story was heartbreakingly sweet. The enemy had a blast in making them suffer after giving them moments of reprieve. It was an intense read with many unexpected twists and turns that kept you on the edge until the end, a couple of surprises that made the balance to twist toward good, exciting discovers that filled us with happiness and emotion, and a lot of love and understanding from the old and new pack. The plot thickens as a new mission arise, new powers and identities are found, as well as old friends getting in the mix to help our characters in their quest. It was so sweet to see the kids, the new bundle of joy added to the mix and how they all integrated to form a loving family. I really loved the story and I'm looking forward to see what happens next.
Dom and Pani are soulmates since the beginning of time, and are cursed for their love. Their love is genuine and well written. Pani and Dom are a perfect couple, the opposite to each other but the ying and yang that fit each other perfectly.
I went into this book, not having read any other books, which while Dom and Pani themselves seem to have been newish characters the rest had appeared in other series by Kiki Burrelli. To start off I found myself lost and it seemed hard to get through and I almost dnf at about the 40% mark, but at around the 60% mark it seemed to find its feet and then I couldn’t put it down with the action scenes well written. The ending leaves many unanswered questions. Can’t wait for the next.
I have truly enjoyed all of the different series that all lead into this one. Oh my word, Pani and Dom have been through so much that it just doesn’t seem right what happens in the first half of this book. These two have a hard road to learning the full extent of their new powers with all of their memories in tact. Please read the short novella Oblivion before reading this. And Gavrel needs a good beat down…just saying. No spoilers but OMG he is going to need some serious redemption for me to like him. It is good to see some of the other guys again as well, especially Jake and Claus. (That is another couple that deserves some happiness.) I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I am a fan of instalove romances, but I know some people need more of a rationale for why characters fall in love. Burrelli in this book has come up with an ingenious way to make both kinds of readers happy. For everyone, there is great world building, a suspenseful plot full of all kinds of machinations and manipulations but we have Dominion and Pani, an instalove couple who get a second chance after a separation. Then, the author flips the table and uses a memory loss to make the characters have to reach deep and figure out why they love each other. A brilliant stratagem and an amazing book.
MM, paranormal, shifter, Mpreg, soul mates romance. A love story that has spanned many lifetimes, cursed duo Dominion and Pani have been cursed from their first lifetime in love. Now seems to be the time that they will be together finally but only if they manage to defeat the Demon's that have escaped. Ideally needs to be read after the other two series that predate this one as characters have been in them and it covers alot of the issues within this story. Easy to read if you have read the other series, page-turner, non stop action and lots of twists in the story.
I’ve been dying for this book since the beginning of Dom and Pani’s story in Oblivion, and man, did Kiki Burrelli pack in the high emotion in this one. My heart broke for these soulmates over and over, but they have a beautiful bond that perseveres through anything thrown at them.. even if it takes a little while. I really enjoyed getting more of the packs too, and meeting new characters that will be pivotal going forward in this world. This story has everything I was hoping for and more, and I am so excited for the rest of the Soul Warriors and cherubs!
I loved that Dominion and Pani were soulmates from when time began. We first met them in Oblivion and I’m so glad we got their full story. Their love story is a little heartbreaking at times but so worth the wait! The story has a lot of secondary characters from the author previous works, but the story can absolutely be read as a standalone. The story is full of twists and turns and is set up perfectly for the next one. It was really well written, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
Pride is the first book that I have read by this author and absolutely loved it. This is the story of Dominion and Pani who have been mates from the beginning of time. Unfortunately due to a curse, Dom did not remember Pani from previous lives. Thankfully in this time he did. This book is about love through the ages with lots of action taking care of the bad guy. I recommend though reading the other books in this timeline from the beginning to know the different characters that pop up.
This is a forever love, unrequited and then forgotten. Pani and Dom have been mates since the beginning many lifetimes ago. It’s tragic and full of action. Dom doesn’t remember Pani, but his soulmate pines for him over different lives. What a heartbreak! But then they reunite and wow! I love this couple and so many fun characters, other I despise but that’s the great thing about fantasy. This book kept me reading wanting to know what was next and still at the end, it felt like there’s more to their story. I can’t wait for the next book.
I'm really glad I read Oblivion, the short story first, because otherwise this would have been confusing.
I am loving this series. I love Dog's transition to Dominion and the wraiths transition into Pani. I was also glad to see that the rogue pack is now a bigger feature in the books. At the end of the story it alluded to something happening between Jake and Claus. I think I know what it is, but I don't know how it will play out. I'm also eager to read the next part of the series. I love Camel.
Dom and Pani were punished for being in love but it was done in the most cruelest of ways. When they finally got the chance to live and love again: once again, their lives were being played with again.
Dom and Pani’s connection was breathtakingly beautiful. Their love was as strong as ever to overcome the obstacles in their way.
Fantastic book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
“I voluntarily read this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*
Pride is the start of a new series and a spin off from the author's Wolves of Royal Paynes series. I would highly suggest that you read at least book 4 (Outlaw) in that series to get a better understanding of the MCs in Pride. If you had a chance to read/grab Kiki Burrelli's short story, Oblivion: Soul Warriors of Royal Paynes, we were introduced to Dom and Pani there.
Dom and Pani's story is heartbreaking beautiful. Pride is captivating. It is well written and the world that Kiki Burrelli builds for these characters is addictive. I can't wait for the next book in this series!!
I love this story and to have previous characters returning and be part of Dom and Pani's story helps the ongoing story continue. The meeting of new characters hints at new stories to come.
I did feel sympathic to Dom after Pani was hit by the Demon king, however, it provided him with some form of knowledge of what Pani went through.
You do really need to read wolves of walker county and wolves of Royal Paynes, as these are recurring characters
This is a good, well-written story, like all of Kiki's books, but since I had not read any of the related series, I felt completely lost at first, Still, I loved the characters of Dom and Pani, and was really drawn into their story. I think those who have read some or all of the other series will like it even more. I did become attached to the main and supporting characters, and was rooting for a HEA..
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
