There’s an instant connection when Max and Lauren’s eyes meet across a crowded café. But their attempts to get to know each other, are constantly thwarted by either Max’s mysterious alarm or Lauren’s frenemies, who Max nicknames the three witches. As the witches stir up a storm, Lauren tries desperately to escape the spell binding her to them. Meanwhile Max is left wondering if her and Lauren are meant to be, or destined to be fated lovers. A visit from an ex, kickstarts a chain reaction, leading to drama on the moors, that will have far reaching repercussions. Will Max and Lauren get to be each other’s amours, or will outside sources combine with the witches, to spoil everything?
Dnf at 31%. They were thinking about love and referring to each other as girlfriend after a single 2 hour dinner. I just can’t handle that kind of insta-love.
One of the things I love the most about Elle Armstrong is her great humour. It’s just unique and totally my wavelength. And I definitely didn’t get disappointed in this story.
When Max and Lauren meet in the café Max is the new owner together with her sister there is definitely a spark. Lauren doesn’t know it’s Max café and that her 3 friends (the 3 witches) don’t know about that fact makes them reminding Lauren this over and over again.
Lauren the one that has not lots of self-confidence doubts anyway that someone like Max would be interested in her. Max on the other hand doesn’t understand why Lauren even spends time with the 3 witches and is actually a bit disappointed.
Until they can be finally be together they have to overcome some obstacles. Some of them will keep you on your toes that you won’t be able to put the book down. Others will just make you laugh out loud. Fingernails definitely can be a funny topic to read and I assume also to write about.
Once again Elle Armstrong has written a heartwarming story with low angst and lots of humour. I definitely enjoyed it and all the characters very much. Max sister Alice and her friend Julie definitely have chemistry and lots of potential. Which makes me wanna read their own story. Chances are high that because this was only the first book in a new series that my wish gets fulfilled. ☺️
First book I have read by this author. And it is a good one. A sweet romance with two MC to fall in love with. Max is a good strong reliable person. Lauren is a insecure sweetheart that needs a Max. Throw in some witches, accidents, and fires and you have a good story. Enjoy
The writing style was not for me. I also couldn't stand the monologue where one character is trapped in a toxic friendship, acknowledges it, and still continues to try to keep it alive.
A really fun reading, even with the whole lot of indignation and irritation the witches gave me, on many occasions I laughed like a fool and had a dorky smile plastered on my face. Lauren was so endearing to watch interacting with Max. The reason that made her like that, all shy and unsure of herself is sheet, but it was quite amusing seeing her sort of blooming.
I didn't love how the witches got their 'forgiveness', I don't think they atoned their sins, but maybe with the sequels we get to see it. And wow I wasn't expecting things to happen when they happened, it was a really nice way to change the usual formula.
Overall it was a sweet, fun and light reading with very low angst, even with the wicked witches of the west, east, north and south.
P.S.: I saw Leah's review about the instalove and she's quite right haha, it does usually give me a bit of pause. But then I remember myself of my 1st girlfriend (both early 20s) and how we were hanging once in a very while and one day she invited me to her house and we snogged (and more) for the 1st time and after that she took me to the bus station, I had to go home, and whilst waiting for my bus she plainly said "now we're dating" (in Pt-br saying that meant "we're girlfriends now"). Then 4 maybe 6? years later we were still together... but thank goodness that toxic shit was over, good riddance. lol. I just told all this tale to say there are some people who give some bad reputation to lesbians about instalove. I'm the people.
The first thing that caught my attention was the beautiful cover. The second was the title and it’s play on words. This is a book about gaining self confidence, trusting others and falling in love. This is a sweet romance about Lauren who has ver little self esteem and Max, who has a hard time trusting others because of a past bad relationship. It was bliss watching them overcome all of the obstacles that came their way to find true love and happiness. This is book one of a series and I am really looking forward to the next one. Elle Armstrong become one of mt go-to authors for a great read. Thank you for gifting us with such a wonderful story.
I enjoyed this sweet story. Loved the setting and main characters. Side characters are great as well but I would have kicked the three witches to the curb rather than forgive them. That just personal opinion though, I can’t stand people that behave that way. The only niggle I have is the use of “um” is sometimes a bit too much. I get that it’s to point out the character is nervous etc but when she’s having a long conversation it gets a bit much.
I quite enjoyed this book that I read till my eyes would no longer stay open and I was at risk of dropping my Kindle! I loved the characters, the setting, and the entertaining plot. I loved York when I was there and would like to go back someday. The characters in this story were fun to watch grow and change, in some cases. Even the three! Oh, Alice! Recommend.
I really did not like the writing of this story. I could not fully get into it. The characters acted a bit childish for their ages in my opinion. Also, the dialogue was hard to read at times.
