Hunter’s Hope by Alyssa Day
2nd book in the Vampire’s Motorcycle Club series. Paranormal romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better if you know the background of the players from the first book.
Hunter was a firefighter turned vampire in the first book. This book has Hunter learning what he can do and trying to stop his blood hunger by snacking on Alice. Wait. By trying to avoid snacking on Alice.
Alice sees ghosts and has a minor demon living in her pet sanctuary. A minor demon means someone more nasty is probably going to be a problem soon though. Thankfully Hunter will be around to help.

It’s an adventure from ghosts, sneaky ferrets, a mini dragon and pirates treasure all while Hunter and Alice deal with their pasts and moving their relationship forward.
Captivating and enjoyable.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I also purchased a copy to share.

I really liked Hunter and Alice together. So sweet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last year when I read book one I definitely had some mixed feelings about it. This story definitely improved with the layers of characters with their own unique talents.
Hunter is a newly turned vampire and is innately attracted to a brand new character who is gifted with the capability to speak to animals and ghosts. This can be quite a difficult situation when you were bombarded.
She gets caught up in their world and Hunter steps up to protect even though he is just learning has powers. Between the both of them the author crafts a wild and humorous story that is entertaining and fun, with clashes of fierce power and fight against enemies.
Plus, Hunter is on fire in the bedroom. He is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Together they are burning bright and that is a the type of character development that keeps those pages turning!!
Day has created a story full of vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and other things that go bump in the night, along with climactic clashes of all kinds! Exciting and enjoyable!
This is one of those series that I desperately want to like but end up feeling pretty meh about. All the elements I like are there. The world-building is interesting, the characters are okay enough but something just isn't clicking for me. I'm going to be putting this down for now. I've read other reviews that state that this has a slow start, so we'll see if I end up finding the patience to continue on in this story for another 10%. The narration was actually pretty good. The character's voices are distinguishable from each other for both narrators. This was more a case of me not being able to get into the story than an issue with the story itself.
The second book in Alyssa Day’s paranormal romance series Vampire Motorcycle Club, Hunter’s Hope follows newly turned vampire Hunter Evans as he meets and falls in love with animal rescuer Alice Darlington. However, Alice has a secret that once revealed, could threaten her very existence. Can she trust Hunter with the truth, and what will happen when threats, old and new, find her? Can Hunter protect Alice when he can’t always control himself?
Used to being in the friend zone, Hunter can’t believe a woman like Alice could be interested in him, especially considering his challenges as a vampire still learning the ropes. Hunter is trying to adjust to his new vampiric life, and it is sometimes a struggle to control his urges. Hunter hates feeling helpless, and he is frustrated as he learns the ins and outs of being a vampire. I think Alice gives him hope when he feels a little hopeless.
Hunter’s feelings for Alice are strong, and their connection is instant. Personally, I’m surprised Hunter was constantly put in the friend zone. He is absolutely dreamy (minus the whole blood-sucking thing)! He’s kind and patient and passionate, thoughtful and protective. I love how devoted he is to Alice and to his friends. He is a good and honorable person, and the way he feels about Alice is swoon-tastic. They fit together so well and make a great couple.
Alice is a great character too. She’s a caring and compassionate woman who totally wears her heart on her sleeve. She is also a survivor, and she never gives up. I love her fighting spirit and her resilience. She learns so much about the supernatural world in this book, and she handles all of this new knowledge with grace, understanding, and humor. Considering everything she’s been through in the past and in the present, her ability to remain positive and hopeful is admirable.
The friendships are another highlight of the novel. Hunter, Bane, Edge, Ryan, Meara, and many of the werewolves have this great connection, and I adore their times together. There is an easiness to their friendships, which is built on trust, loyalty, and respect. Their witty banter and innate understanding and support of each other are fantastic! As much as they tease and threated and torment each other, there is a lot of love there, and they are more family than friends.
There is an overarching plot that adds a lot of suspense and action to the story. Power-hungry warlocks, supernatural battles, demons, and more threaten the delicate balance among the supernaturals, and Hunter, Alice, and the others are at the heart of the conflict. There are several twists and revelations in this messy and dangerous battle of good and evil, and it will be interesting to see how this aspect of the plot progresses.
I thought this was a great addition to the Vampire Motorcycle Club series, and I’m eagerly anticipating the next book. There were a few potential love stories hinted at in this book, and I’m curious to see who will be the focus of the next one. I think readers who enjoy sweet and steamy paranormal romances will enjoy this read, and I’m thankful to Entangled Amara, Alyssa Day, and NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I had not read the first book in this series but it has been on my radar for some. When the opportunity came up to read the second book I decided to give it a go and I am glad I did. While this book can be read as a stand along I do suggest you read the first one as well.
This novel is full of vampires, werewolves, ghosts and demons and plenty of humor. The story focuses on Hunter a newly turned vampire learning to deal with his new life when he runs into Alice a ghost whisper. The story itself moves along pretty quickly with Alice being pulled into a world she didn't know existed.
The romance is pretty hot and is actually quite believable. If you enjoy Paranormal Romance with an entertaining story then this book is for you. Even better we get a new series to sink our fangs into.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for a chance to read and review this novel.
Hunter's Hope is a paranormal romance that will enchant readers with the author's pure and genuine characters. Alyssa Day continues to dazzle with her fascinating storylines in her 'Vampire Motorcycle Club' series.
In book 2 of the series, the story centers around Alice and Hunter. Alice is a young woman running an animal shelter. She wears her heart on her sleeves and her kind personality is contagious. Hunter is a newborn vampire still trying to get used to this new life he will be living. When he was a human, he was a firefighter and 'a nice guy'. When the two happen to meet one night, they share a connection. Hunter is craving her and Alice is attracted to him like no other man before.
It's great to see Alice somewhat calm to the news of Hunter being a vampire since she grew up knowing about paranormal beings. This makes it easier for them to form a bond that no one can deny. Since Hunter is a new vampire, he knows that it won't be easy to control himself and his thirst around a human especially a human like Alice. It's easy to love Hunter and I liked that he is upfront about his feelings for Alice. I swooned at his patience with her and his protective nature when it comes to Alice. And Alice seemed to like him even more every moment they spent together. Their strong feelings for one another make them ask themselves the same question. Can you fall in love after only 2 days?
I give Hunter's Hope 5 stars. I truly had a wonderful time reading this book. It is great to see two kind-hearted people meet and fall in love. I think Alice is placed in Hunter's life to help him with his transition. And Alice needed love like Hunter to help her feel worthy of being loved. I am so ready for more and hope there will be more books in this series.
HUNTER’S HOPE is the second book in the Vampire Motorcycle Club. After enjoying this the first book in this series, I was looking forward to jumping into the second one. However, I don’t think I enjoyed this one as much as the first.
The beginning is slow to start, which made me put it down a few times. I just didn’t find it gripping enough and I don’t think I connected well with the characters of the stories. But after reading some more, I started to enjoy it. There were a lot of elements that I liked, but sometimes I feel like the way in which it was explained could’ve been better. Nevertheless, if you like MC Romance with a paranormal twist then I think you’ll enjoy it. It’s nice to see new Paranormal Romance series featuring vampires back because I feel like I have certainly missed them over the years.
I really enjoyed this slightly different approach to an MC romance with a huge paranormal twist. This follows on from Banes Choice and we start to unravel the mysteries surrounding some of the Vampires who are quietly in their own way protecting Savannah.
Hunter is a newly turned Vampire of just a few weeks so I guess technically he could be considered a baby Vampire ! He is still coming to terms with his new reality and a lot of this book features his self loathing and revulsion but happily done in a way that doesn't feel depressing. The reason for that is Alice who Hunter feels connected to from the first moment he meets her. Alice has her own dark history but is doing her best to help local unloved animals. Also if honest Alice isn't exactly like you or me because she can see and communicate with Ghosts ! Yep Alice is particularly qualified you could say to help both the dead and in this case the undead !
This is not a hugely packed or indeed fast paced action story but instead showcases the dynamics between the Vampires who have made Hunter one of their own. Yes its a romance which was sweet although perhaps some would find the use of the virgin trope annoying but I didn't mind particularly as Alice's self imposed abstinence did make sense. If blunt I would have liked more of the bad guys but as I said I did thoroughly enjoy reading about the Vampires and indeed the Werewolves who feature so for this reader this was an enjoyable escape from reality.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
What a fun yet action-packed paranormal romantic suspense this proved to be!
Where a racoon and minor demon are matchmakers, too, you'll see.
The heroine, Alice Darlington, rescues animals and helps ghosts, too,
But is shocked to discover vampires and werewolves exists, it's true.
Hunter is a new vampire, a firefighter hero who saved a child
Now he's worried his new existence will have him going wild.
But meeting Alice gives him a new reason to live
And new opportunities for love and romance him give.
Alice has escaped her past and starting to feel safe but then
Discovers her tormentor from the past is tracking her again.
Can her new paranormal friends help protect her?
Will they help with keeping her safe and show they care?
What a great read with diverse characters who
Include shifters, vampires, warlocks, cute animals and a half angel, too!
There are spies, plots and imminent danger
Whilst all around life keeps getting stranger.
This is the second book in The Vampire Motorcycle Club set
And I now can't wait the next in the series to get!
If you enjoy stories involving humour and warring paranormal forces
Getting a copy of this book should be one of your next courses!
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
I throughly enjoyed reading it and this is my honest review.
I read book 1 in this series and enjoyed it so was happy to read book 2, Hunters Hope.
Hunter is a newly turned vampire who meets Alice a quirky fun character.
Hunter is a good man adjusting to his new life with his new ready made vampire family.
Alice I really liked, she is kind and dedicated to her her animal sanctuary and also to helping her ghost visitors.
There's a real pull between Alice and Hunter and things do move very quickly.
The author develops all the characters through the book and it's entertaining seeing them all chatting and helping one another when needed. There's a good dash of humour within the dialogue.
All in all an enjoyable PNR read.
Loved reading about a ghost whisperer heroine. Don’t see many of those in romance unfortunately. Interesting twist with the newly formed vampire ex firefighter. Unfortunately the story just didn’t come together well.
- Charlie was such a cute character but we never got much information on him. I wanted to know more about what he was and what he could do. We never got any answers.
- The sex scenes were rushed and not very descriptive. Definitely not a spicy read.
- A little irritating that the heroine’s gift is also something that vampires can do to.
- didn’t really care much for the female vampire in this book. Personality was too OTT for me.
- Ending was very rushed and a bit ridiculous given what we know the heroine will have to go through. Needed more chapters on what was to come.
Oh my gosh! If there was ever a “boy next door“ it would be Hunter. Vampire or not he has that innate kindness, perfect hair, perfect body, and amazing eyes, they burn bright blue, that you expect to see in any small town, and he is absolutely perfect for Alice. She’s eccentric, giving, kind, and has survived things that no one should have to, and only when she meets her dream guy does she really fall down the rabbit hole. I assure you that I quite happily fell right along with her. The author brought action, and danger, self growth, friendship, laughter and love together for the best of stories and most amazing journeys to the HEA. The side characters were amazing, I hope we get to see the wolves find their own HEAs, and the story built perfectly off of the first book, those bad guys just never give up do they? I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Hunter's Hope by Alyssa Day is the 2nd book in the Vampire's Motorcyle Club series. I had not read the first book in the series but had no trouble reading the book as a stand alone. A paranormal romance that contains not only vampire's, werewolve's, and other assorted other worldly beings. This book centers around Alice and Hunter, I enjoyed their storyline. The beginning was a little slow but because more action packed as the book moved along.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for my honest review.
This is the second of the series but it really could be read as a standalone. This story captivated me from the beginning and I just couldn’t quit flipping the pages on my Kindle. Hunter and Alice have this undeniable chemistry between the two of them but they resist in the face of the bad guys. Hunter is a fire fighter but he recently has been turned into a vampire and Alice is a ghost whisperer that runs an animal shelter. Once done battling their foe can they be together?
New vampire Hunter have a problem -- he can't control his blood lust urges, but he's met the most beautiful woman. His new vampire brain scream "mine" but he has to keep it together because he's so afraid of hurting the woman he wants to claim for his own.
Alice Darlington is immediately drawn to the blue-eyed Hunter, even though she knows he's a vampire. She's not quite like other humans -- she can speak to and see ghosts and communicate with animals. She's special in many ways, and Bane and his band of vamps is very interested in Alice and so are other, more villainous groups.
When it turns out Alice is a target. Hunter must help keep Alice safe from old enemies. There's plenty of action as Alice and Hunter deal with all manner of supernatural beings out there.
But what I really enjoyed about this story is the relationship between Hunter and Alice. It's just so sweet and Hunter is so very protective. I just really loved these two together. And Charlie is a lot of fun too, but I'll keep that little spoiler to myself. And did I mention there are werewolves too? How about a hilarious paranormal volleyball match? All good fun.
I really like this series. It combines a paranormal world with the motorcycle club theme nicely. It's romantic and a lot of fun. And has two of the hottest covers I've seen this year.
I enjoyed this lovely escape from reality. Alice is understandably a bit quirky, which I enjoyed right away. Her pet rescue facility has a fun assortment of odd animals, which only adds to her likeability and the fun factor of the story. She and Hunter made a good couple, he appreciates her strengths even while trying to protect her. They each made the other stronger. Their romance edged a bit toward the too sweet side, but that was tempered with a sexiness I enjoyed.
There was danger directed at everyone, but it didn’t have me chewing my nails as I read. The suspenseful story wrapped wonderfully around the group dynamics of the vampires and werewolves. I loved their camaraderie and banter! It made me wish I were a part of it all.
It’s a fun quick read full of smiles, laughter, danger, and steamy romance. Now I need to go back and purchase book one while waiting for the next installment!
Second book in the Vampire Motorcycle club series starts at a fast pace and never lets up. Hunter newly turned vampire is immediately attracted to Alice ghost whisperer but only on a Wednesday. Running an animal rescue centre Alice accidentally takes in a minor daemon sent to watch her. Alice’s past will play a large part in their relationship but her time in the institute will bring the Chamber members after her power. Really strong characters with well fleshed out friends really sets this story alight and you will wish to follow their journey into the next story.
I loved it! Hunter's trying to figure out how to be a vampire when he meets Alice. She sees ghosts & can communicate with animals. So when they first meet she thinks he is a ghost & tells him to come back at a different time. He follows her home to her animal rescue, where she figures out he isn't dead. He let's it slip he's a vampire, which she doesn't believe, so she thinks he's just nuts. After he leaves she finds another stray. A golden retriever, that was a minor demon two seconds before she almost found him. He transformed into the dog hoping she wouldn't notice him. She sees the poor thing there & brings him in to clean him up & feed him. The warlock that had hurt him & made him spy on Hunter had told him he couldn't eat, he had been so hungry! The nice lady was taking care of him! Hunter told Meara about Alice & how he mention being a vampire. Meara called Alice to tell her she would come by tomorrow & make a donation. Alice was excited, she could use the money for the rescue. The amount she had offered was a lot. When Meara showed up, Alice was unsure it was real. Hunter showed up, unhappy Meara came without him. Meara tells him she wanted to meet her for herself. She invites her to dinner to ask a few more questions because she can smell the demon in her rescue. She tries to use compulsion on her but it makes her sick. When Alice regains her total senses she finds they are in a dining are not her driveway & wants to know how they got here. They get to talking a little more. That including what she meant about talking to ghosts. She wants to know if they are really vampires. A flapper ghost comes to her & she asks her who they are & she tells them they are vampires. Bane & Ryan come though a portal with her new golden retriever "Charlie". She wants to know why they have her dog. When Hunter gets another look & sees a dragon, he's amazed saying it's beautiful! She knows somethings there but she isn't going to let them kill it just because they think it's dangerous. Charlie lets her see him as he is & she reaches for him. He gets away from Bane to jump into Alice's arms. They all tell her it might be dangerous. Charlie pipes up shocking them all. He tells her he is dangerous but not to her, & please don't let them hurt him. No one knew they could talk. Alice is learning a lot of new things all in one night. Bane & Ryan get into kind of a heated debate when he finds out she went over to talk to the werewolf leader by herself. Another shocker, Alice was not ready for. Charlie says they like to eat minor demons. Alice promises no one will eat him. She then asks if he has a name. He says warlocks stole him before he got a name. Alice thinks it is time to go home. She asks for a ride to take her & Charlie home. Charlie is thrilled, & surprised she will keep him. She tells him he will have a home as long as he wants with her. He then tells them they must protect her from the chamber, the warlocks congregation that are trying to take over Bane's territory. They are from London. He says the bad warlock that hurt his wing made him spy on the new vampire led them to Alice. Now they know about her. Need to protect. Hunter drives them home. A little later he has to go to the cooler he took with them to drink a few bags of blood. A call comes in to rescue a cat & her kittens from a house that will be demolished tomorrow. They go out to get them. When they get back Bane calls to let Hunter know he has hired a werewolf security team to patrol Alice's & Bane's property until this thing with the Chamber is over. When Hunter tells Alice she is unsure but goes along with it. The sun is coming up, & Hunter needs a place to crash fast. The best place they can think of is the storage room in her basement with an old sleeping bag for now. When she gets up she finds a wolf on her front porch, who transforms into a woman named Max. She is the Beta to the werewolf club. She invites her in for coffee & they get to know each other. When Hunter gets up he sees Meara in the driveway stopping by to tell him to bring Alice to a volleyball game. Then Some one drives up an SUV, a gift from Ryan she says. They get there & she is somehow talked into a game she didn't want to play. They are playing with a volleyball made out of kevlar so it won't be easy with someone with their strength to destroy the ball. Alice can barely move it. They have to forfeit when Meara explodes the ball. As they are leaving the court 15 ghosts come to Alice & start yelling at her. When she can't stand anymore she yells stop! It stops them, but the werewolves as well. They figure it is their wolf side listening to her, she apologizes to them. She asks what the ghosts want, they tell her the ghosts are restless because there are warlocks in Savannah. Charlie flies into her arms & asks her does she tell him stop? None of the vampires & wolves are happy about the minor demon. She introduces him. This is Charlie, he's with me. He hops up on Hunter's shoulder & and says Hi wolves & vampires. About then Max gets shot in the neck. She tries to heal herself while Ryan & Alice try to stop the bleeding. She finds it is a silver bullet so Carter has to get it out before she is able to heal it. When he removes it, Max is able to heal it, Ryan speeds it up using her angel powers. Bane sends people out to find the shooters. When they are caught they are taken to the motorcycle club to be interrogated. The two thugs know nothing, so their memories are wiped & they are dumped. The two warlocks seem to have different opinions. The male threatening Charlie, who found them for the vampires won't say anything & keeps telling the girl to shut up. Meara finally levitates him up to a wall & shuts off his voice. While listening to the female warlock they find out that not only is the Chamber after Alice for her powers, the doctor from the institution that she had escaped from 6 years ago is after her as well. He seems to be with Chambers. He tortured her for eight years before she was able to escape & she will kill him before she goes back. When they allow the male to speak Alice tries to get more information but when he won't say anything she screams her frustration & Charlie trying to protect her, breathes fire for the first time & lights him up. Hunter being a firefighter can't stand it, he tries to put the fire out with his shirt but seems to suffocate the flames & put it out. Bane says now they know what his power is. The warlock still won't talk & the ghosts that had shown up earlier came again to help Alice, they swarm in on the warlock & take him with them. The female faints & is take by the wolves. There is some investigating done. They find out that the institution had burned down a few years before. Hunter will stay at her house for now & they will keep the security teams on until they get more information. Meara is sending someone to make Alice's basement better for Hunter. After they find out what she has planned & let her do it, they get out of the way. Alice wants her first time to be with Hunter. After that she finds out Ryan has a movie night planned for all of them. They are all coming. Sometime it is told to Bane 2 more warlocks have been cornered. He, Hunter & Edge are going with Carter to get them. When they get there the place is a mess & none of their people are around. Only a vampire's head is found. Carter smells them leading into the city. They find them & the female warlock they had questioned earlier on top of a bar. While climbing up Carter is injured, Hunter saves him by killing the warlock throwing fireballs at him. When they get them all down thee female is dead as well. There is only one male left alive but is threatening Alice & triggers Hunter into killing him. He goes into drinking his blood & almost goes berserk when Edge knocks him out. He wakes up wanting to know what happened. When he finds out what he did he is violently ill. He thinks he has become the monster he has been afraid he would be. He goes to Alice. When he sees her at the mansion he is still covered in blood & asks her to go with him. She goes. He flies them to a boat he had been on. The sends the crew to bed. Alice sees him try to scrub himself clean too many times in the shower & asks him to tell her what is going on. He tells her. She tells him it was self defense, he is not a monster. Hunter Evans risked his life again and again as a firefighter until the night he died saving a child...only to be reborn as a vampire. Now the man who lived his life as the quintessential “nice guy” must find a way to conquer the deadly urges that threaten to turn him feral. When his own actions put a beautiful woman in danger, he vows to protect her…even from himself.
Alice Darlington has a secret of her own: she sees ghosts. She thought she’d done a good job of keeping it under wraps—until now. A terrible threat from her past is hunting her down in order to use her power for dark purposes. Now she’s on the run and doesn't know who to trust or where to go.
When Hunter and Alice team up to battle the dangers coming at them from all sides, they’re forced to rely on each other. But Hunter doesn’t know how long he can keep the beast inside him away from the woman it craves…
Will he let his fears come between them …
While the first book’s opening had me a bit confused, with this one, I knew instantly where I was going.
Of course I was curious in the previous installment about Hunter, as he struggled to cope with his new reality.
So here we are, only three weeks after the end of Bane’s story. Despite knowing what to expect when he accepted to be turned into a vampire, Hunter fears his inner beast, scared to switch into monster mode and becoming his worst nightmare.
Still, he has examples all around him that none of his new new family is such creature, he is in fact more fighting with his past pain and inner fears.
Alice is like a butterfly just out of its chrysalid, everything is a new experience, a new challenge, and she still has her innocence intact despite the horrors she faced and walking alongside ghosts is just her daily life. She did not turn bitter as many abused people, she instead focused on helping others, any unfortunate being.
So it is soon understandable she is the light to his shadows, she soothes the wild side of him but will it be enough when threats from her past target them all.
A lovely and fun continuation in this series, with actions, steam, fun side characters and some unconventional pets.
Hunter's Hope is the second in a supernatural series by Alyssa Day. I did not read the first novel, and I was thinking that maybe it was important to the plot of this story, but in reading some of the other reviews, it looks like that's not the case. That said, there is an overarching storyline that appears to be spreading its way through the series.
In this story, Hunter is a former firefighter-turned vampire. In fact, the story begins just weeks after his turning, and he's still trying to get the hang of what it means to be a vampire. He all but runs into Alice as she chases her raccoon into an elevator that he's in the process of departing, and from the first, he's smitten.
Alice runs an animal rescue. We learn that she is able to communicate to both ghosts and animals. We also learn that she's been on her own for a while after escaping from a Very Bad Place. Unfortunately, it soon becomes clear that Very Bad People from the Very Bad Place are still after her, and they are somehow tied to the vampires.
Hunter and his friends (vampires, werewolves, and an angel) accept Alice into their fold, and they vow to help protect her while also looking for their own Very Bad People (which is where the overarching storyline comes in).
Also, there's a cute demon.
I really really wanted to like this book, and in the beginning, I did. Hunter is adorable, and Alice is both brave and artless. However, too much of the story revolves around the two of them feeling each other out (and up) and generally overthinking everything. I wanted to know a lot more about Alice's past. There's a brief bit about her early life, but it is very unclear how she discovered her abilities and how she ended up in the VBPlace with the VBPeople or how exactly the VBPeople used her. I'm not even entirely sure what she does to help ghosts out (though she takes appointments from 10 to 2 on Wednesdays). With regard to Hunter, his life as a human is also glossed over. I believe some of his story is told in the previous book, but as this is his story, it seems incomplete without it.
Much of the story seems to hang on the screwball-comedy element, with snappy dialog and witty banter, rather than an actual plot. Alice giggles a lot and Hunter laughs. Characters with no clear purpose pop up (pirate ghost, I'm looking at you). It reads a lot like the book was written in chunks and then stitched together without rereading it for flow. Overall, it's a readable novel, but it's just not a particularly engaging one.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!
Hunter is the good guy Turned into… a good guy even as a vampire. He must make peace and accept its vampirism with all the pluses and the minuses (many yet to be discovered and mastered) that are a full-package deal. Lucky him, and us, he quickly meets his Alice. Lucky is just a way of saying because, at least at first, the attraction he feels for her is dangerously challenged by his attraction for her blood.
And because I mention pluses and minuses, let see… the pluses: Alyssa Day gives us vampires, werewolves, warlocks, ghosts, angels – the fallen type, demons, and dragons. Some are friends, some are lovers, others are allies and some are enemies. She puts the friends and allies together and generously adds humour with an extra sexiness and passion for the lovers’ interactions. After that, she starts (T)urning the alarm signs spread on the way since the beginning into real dangers and lets the enemies make their presence known. Death, the real, permanent one for our vampires, werewolves, angels, and demons is just collateral for the bad, cruel, corrupt, and lethal enemies. Lowering the guard is a mistake that could (T)urn any expected denouement.
As a minus, yes, vampires and werewolves are looking great on their Harleys but there is no MC in this Vampire MC story. Admitting that romance is the focus of the story, still, I would have liked a better developed “battle against the evil”.
Anyway, Alyssa Day’s Hunter’s Hope is a quick read of which trump is Alice's wittiness shown in her dialogues and monologues. Her swift, smart, and frank lines and comebacks kept me amused and fresh during vampires’ hours.
PS1: the volumes are connected through the characters, but they are standalone; the common plot is identifiable but not pursued as the Hunter’s Hope plays only on Alice’s front.
PS2: I want "a" Charlie...
Second book in this new series. Not read the first book, but I’m definitely going back to read it. I’ve not read this author in a while (I loved her Atlantis Series)
This series concentrates on a motorbike gang, but not an ordinary MC gang, this one has vampires riding the bikes. It did remind me a little of Patricia A. Rasey’s Sons of Sangue Series.
Hunter is considered a “young” vampire as he’d only recently been turned. He’s fighting his revulsion at the the decision to take his old life away and replace it with a new one! And it’s one he’s not sure he can get a grip of! His new diet is causing him anxiety and stress, he thinks he’s going to kill someone’s with his newfound strength and hunger! But all that changes when he meets Alice….
Alice can see ghosts! She’s been able to see them for a long time, hiding the fact from everyone she knows. But when her past comes back to “haunt” her, she’s unsure where to go, can she really trust this stranger who holds a dark attraction for her? And how will she cope when she finds out there is more than just ghosts in her world… Vampires, demons and werewolves for a start!
I really liked the premise of this story, it’s a little slow and not much interaction with the MC part. But it has great dialogue, parts had me chuckling. It also shows us how newly turned vampires deal with their new life. And the ghost element was a great addition (usually the female is just some ordinary human who stumbles into the supernatural world. I also liked how the couple work together figuring out who and what wants Alice. Maybe I’ve read too many MC books lately, maybe I’ve read too many dark romances to fully appreciate this one, I found it a little tame, there could have been more battles, it could have been a little darker. But it’s still a great read, and I’ve added this series on my TBR list.
I’d recommend it for those who like their vampires a little less dark and who fight their basic urges 😉
Full of paranormal beings, humor, and a love for animals.
Hunter Evans is an everyday hero. He was a firefighter until the night he died, only to be reborn as a vampire. Hunter never loses that instinct to want to save others. Even though he now thirsts for blood, he refuses to give in to hurting others to get it, even when that thirst wants to over take him. Hunter is sweet and adorably cute in learning to be a new vampire. He's full of questions and while he's grateful for another chance at life, he also struggles with the morality of it all. The person who helps him with it all isn't another vampire, but a ghost whisperer named, Alice.
Alice Darlington originally mistakes Hunter for a ghost when she firsts meets him, given his recently dead status. She has a gift for talking to ghosts and animals, which is why her first job is running an animal shelter and she only takes appointments for handling ghost problems. So when Hunter comes back to see her...well it's all very cute because it's not an appointment day.
These two are adorable in their awkwardness. Hunter is not only figuring out how to be a new vampire, he's also not had a ton of dating experience since he is the nice guy who always gets friendzoned. Alice is also in the same boat with zero dating experience, so to watch them figure it out together makes this romance extra fun.
On top of the paranormal aspect, there is the continuing mystery of who is trying to kill the paranormals and with that there is a demon sent to spy on them who ends up being both comic relief and a source of comfort.
I like that these books continue to build upon each one, so while I was disappointed that Alice's powers were only scratched at the surface, I'm hoping they will be flushed out in later books, as Ryan's powers have grown more since book one and we got a lot more of the werewolves in this book as well.
Newly turned vampire, firefighter Hunter Evans, lost his human life saving a child from a fire. Now in this new world, Hunter must learn to control his considerable powers, and the potential monster within by learning from and getting the help of his vampire family. After threatening the life and safety of Alice Darlington who runs the local animal rescue shelter, Hunter vows to protect her no matter the cost, personal or otherwise.
Alice Darlington is no stranger to the supernatural as she is a ghost whisperer; however, it is news to her that vampires, werewolves and other assorted supernaturals exist. Once she becomes part of Hunter’s world, Alice feels she has found a family, something she never had before. Alice is being stalked by an old adversary who is determined to use her for nefarious dark magic purposes as well as the power-hungry warlocks and their familiars who want to overthrow Hunter’s group.
While struggling to learn all the rules for his new life, Hunter quickly decides that Alice is his, and despite the caveman feel, Alice is equally entranced by Hunter. She has never really dated or a boyfriend so this is all new territory for Alice. There are several enemies known and unknown who seek to overcome and wipe out their friends while Hunter has to learn in high gear how to control his vampire traits and tendencies.
This book is the second in this paranormal romance series, the Vampire Motorcycle Club set in the sultry city of Savannah that lends its self to ghost stories and flights of imagination. It is not necessary to read the first book, BANE’S CHOICE; however, several of the important characters are introduced there first.
With lots of action, tons of laugh, and an interesting romance, I’m really enjoying this paranormal world and the cast of colorful characters that Alyssa Day has created in this series!
I absolutely loved Hunter and Alice. From their first meeting, or should I say Hunter’s first meeting with Marigold the raccoon, which leads to him meeting Alice, I knew this book was going to be a great read. There’s a lot of issues for these two to overcome, starting with Hunter’s newly turned into a vampire blood lust and Alice’s need to protect herself from her past, so they certainly had their work cut out for them. And when Alice’s past and the current threats to Hunter’s vampire family become intertwined, these two become the focal point for all sorts of danger.
My favorite part about this book (and the first book as well) was the laughter. There was such great dialogue that led to so many laugh out loud moments. Alyssa Day has found a way to layer the humor in perfectly to offset some of the darkness and danger while not going over the top and to be too campy.
This book can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend starting at the beginning since I think understanding some of the relationships between the supporting characters and some of the backstory would be helpful. I’m really enjoying this world and the lore that Alyssa Day has created and am looking forward to reading more stories set in it. There are so many great characters and I can’t wait to see who’s story is next! This is definitely one to check out!
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book I received from the publisher via NetGalley.
As with the first book in the series, I have to round up that half star for the mere fact that I found myself laughing-out loud more times than I expected.
I had been looking forward to Hunter's story. I had already read Bane's story, who was an "ancient" vampire, so I was curious to see what the author came up with to explain the intricacies of a "newborn" vampire--his acceptance of this new "life", his adaptability, etc.
I found Hunter's story interesting, especially his "nice guy" side in contrast with his vampire nature. I think the author did a great job in balancing his old persona with this new side of him, showing the reader all the ways Hunter struggled to adapt while still dealing with the feelings Alice brought out in him.
I enjoyed the diverse cast of characters. The inclusion of werewolves, ghosts and demons served to expand the world the author had established in book one while still keeping the overall vibe from the first book. I enjoyed trying to decipher friend from foe and coming up with my own conclusions about it. I do have to say that the story dragged a bit in the beginning. Thankfully, as more characters were introduced and I got to see Hunter and Alice's romance bloom the story picked up pace and I was fully engaged, especially since Hunter and Alice's chemistry was pretty explosive . Their romance read a little insta-lovey, yet I found myself cheering them on and wanting them together.
All in all, an overall entertaining read and a great addition to the series. I can't wait to see what Alyssa Day comes up with next!
