There are plenty of pictures for children to color. I could see their smiles and hear giggles in my mind as I read this silly story. The colored pages in the beginning of the book are captivating and provide great models for the Black and White pages to be colored at the end of the book.
This book reminded me so much of my childhood. From the dedication to the author’s dear grandmother “who didn’t believe little girls should get dirty” to the coloring pages at the end, I was delighted. I will be buying this book for several little girls and little boys in my life who I hope will share the joy of mud cakes someday.

I loved this fun story. I liked how pretty and prissy the little girl looked in the beginning of the story. However, I loved that the girl didn’t give a second thought to how she looked; instead she just focused on having fun and celebrating her dog’s birthday! It was such a fun read!
Lots of coloring pages in the back. Beautiful illustrations! Brings back memories of my own mud pie making days. Sometimes, mud birthday cakes are the best when you’re a kid on a budget!

This is a great book for little kids who like going out and getting dirty in the mud. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of five is that I would have liked a little more reading. The coloring pages in the end is a great idea
I like the mix of a short story and coloring book combination. If you have a little one this would be a great read for their first book and then can reward them with the chance to color.
This was a sweet, interactive book that I’d recommend for children 4-8. I love the imagination that mud cakes inspire in the creator. It was short enough to keep little ones engaged, but long enough to exercise focus. Well done!
