The Devil's Delight

Rate this book
Lucifer doesn't have time for romance. He's been ousted as King of Hell. After escaping his chains, he retreats to lick his wounds and plan his revenge. The original sinner takes on the guise of a bakery owner, ready to pass the time until he can retake his throne.

Lexi Sutton, a witch with mischief magic, only wants to live a normal life with normal relationships. The problem? Getting through dates without her chaotic magic going haywire has proven impossible. She's ready to give up on ever finding love.

When Lexi hears about a job opening at a new bakery, she goes for it. How could she know resisting the charms of the panty-melting owner would be so difficult, or that giving in would kick off a chain of events that destiny had been waiting thousands of years to unleash?

Will Hell's number one Devil heal her heart, or will finding out his secret identity shatter it?

This is book one of the Demons and Demogods series and the main characters are Sam Rivers aka Lucifer Morningstar, the former ruler of the underworld and Lexi (Alexis) Sutton, a witch and demigoddess. He was ousted from his throne and thrown into chains by his second on command Abaddon. When he finally managed to escape, he came topside to lick his wounds and plan his revenge. He opened up a bakery to pass the time and Lexi comes in to apply for a job there. She finds Lucifer really handsome and panty melting hot, so struggles not to give into his charms. But with a dating record like hers, she knows getting involved would be pointless. Her magic likes to go completely haywire when she is on dates and especially when she gets hot and bothered! She has never gotten past a third date and believes she may even be cursed! She gets tested on her baking skills before he hires her, where she makes him foodie stuff to die for. She can work around her light schedule at college this semester, but doesn’t need to for the money, rather to stave off boredom and her magic going haywire the more she stresses. Her flatmate Sophie had told her of the bakery and how busy it always was, as she passes it to get to the gym she owns nearby. Lexi is determined to manage without a relationship for the rest of term at least, having had so many things go wrong on her dates thus far.
Sam isn’t the relationship kind of guy, getting loads of numbers left for him at the bakery, by both males and females, which he then picks from occasionally to scratch that itch. Other times he goes hunting for the lowly demons sent up from the depths, to hunt him down at night. He has shielded his powers from others and allows a brief flash to come out, when he wants to draw the demons out. When he finds he is no longer using his drawer of numbers to amuse himself, but rather can’t get Lexi out of his head, he can’t stop himself from kissing her and then asking her out for dinner. She refuses to call it a date, due to her record of dating, but allows them to hook up and spend some time together getting hot and steamy. It doesn’t stop in the bakery either! What neither of them realises, is that their destiny was foreseen thousands of years ago and there is even a prophecy about Lucifer and one of Loki’s children, which Lexi happens to be, even if he didn’t marry her mother! Loki finally turns up in the relationship and surprises them both, but not before Lexi has to help Sam fight off a load of demons and a Fallen, and has to question why Sam was being addressed as Lucifer! Both had been keeping the secrets of who they truly were from the other, mostly out of fear of what the other might do with that information.
Lexi’s power is immense, far greater than it should be as a witch and demigoddess, but she has little ability to work with her magic, with it often doing the opposite of what she wants, or causing fireworks and explosions. Lucifer first thought she might be a human spy for Abaddon, but he could sense her power. Spending so much time with her soon made him realise she was exactly what she seemed and he began to trust her and then fell in love with her. Her father reveals why she has been having so many issues with dating anyone, which doesn’t go down well at all. With Lexi, Lucifer’s shields are down and he lets out a bit of information maybe he shouldn’t have and this causes issues between them. Will they get back together, or will Lucifer take himself off to fight against Abaddon and his crowd, all on his own? He has allies that would fight for him, if only he asked, such as his brother, the Archangel Michael. He really needs to find out exactly what Abaddon is planning and what these secret weapons are that he is trying to amass, before he makes any further moves! Their destiny is to be together, but that doesn’t mean the path is going to be easy or straightforward. There is so much more to come from this series and it has started out with a great love affair between Lexi and Lucifer, giving their backgrounds and what he was doing on Earth. A battle is coming as Lucifer needs to fight to regain what was taken from him and fulfil the destiny long foretold. I somehow read the second book before I could get ahold of this one and know what happens next, but wanted to see what happened at the beginning. I can’t wait to read the last book of the series, and see what happens and how it all ends. I received an ARC copy of this book form BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Lucifer Morningstar, the fallen angel who controlled Hell, had been dethroned by Abaddon. He would never have guessed that one of the Fallen would have betrayed him so. He has spent the last year hunting demons topside, in Boston, no less. Sinsational Sweets was the bakery and pastry shop he ran by himself. It was in a prime location near U of Massachusetts, and the shop was a hit. Regardless of the lore, surrounding him, he only ever punished those who deserved it. Lucifer, of course, used Sam Rivers as his topside name.

Lexi goes to U of Mass and her boyfriend broke up with her by text. What a piece of…. Of course, there were rumors on campus that she was bad luck and didn’t make it past the third date with any of her boyfriends. Sophie was her roommate and worked as a trainer at a gym. Lexi’s mom is a witch and runs, , in Salem. Her mom is a very powerful witch and her cat familiar’s name is Heidi. Sophie tells Lexi that Sam is hiring at his shop and Lexi goes there. However, her powers light her up to his inner sight like a nova. Lexi has always baked whenever she is upset. So she went and got the job at Sinsational.

Loki, God of Mishief, is no myth and is a friend to Lucifer. He is always popping up to annoy and amuse Lucifer. Both Lucifer and Loki, both have gotten a bad rap and in this book, they are hysterical and majorly kick some bad guys behinds. Loki keeps telling Lucifer that there is a prophecy about Lucifer and a child of his getting together.

I loved this book. I’ve always loved Loki, his total gleefulness as he does things has always been a weakness of mind and the movies… Do not get me started and off track. Lexi is awesome and learning about her past and where her powers come from is just awesome! Seeing Lucifer as something other than the big bad is funny and great. The stuff in his homes - the historian and me just sat there and bounced up and down in glee. Lol.

I swear this book’s fight scenes are so cool! It was like watching a movie. I can’t wait for the next books!.

I will be honest. I didn't think I would LOVE this as much as I did!!! But rather than this being a straight sci-fi/paranormal story, it almost starts off as a grumpy-sunshine romcom. And I am HERE. FOR. IT!

Lucifer (calling himself Sam to locals) has opened up a bakery, which has quickly become super-popular. In fact he's realized he may need to hire someone. He himself is so popular that he has a drawer dedicated to phone numbers thrown at him by women (and men) daily (and of course...like the devil he is...he occasionally uses them...all before he knew Lexi of course). Anyhow...between the local college students and local residents, he needs help but doesn't want just ANYONE.

In walks Lexi. He can instantly tell she's not human but frustratingly, he can't tell what exactly she is. But he decides to hire her when (A) she proves she's incredibly talented when it comes to baking and (B) he figures her power can help mask his power because he knows that Abaddon is searching for him (all those details are within the book - you HAVE to read it!)

Lexi is too funny not to love! We find out early on that her powers...can be a bit unpredictable. Partly because of who her parents are (particularly because of her father - which I don't want to spoil here). But Lexi and Lucifer are DRAWN to each other and they don't know why.

The banter between these two!! They are hilarious together, plus they are trying to ignore the pull towards each other. Meanwhile something BIG is going to happen and Lexi needs to learn more about who she is. It's only book 1 so be prepared for a cliffhanger!

I wasn’t sure in the first 5% if the author could pull this off or not since Sam/Lucifer wasn’t a character I really wanted to start liking since I didn’t think he could change his ways, you know, being the devil. (LOL) But it ended up working out & holding my attention. I did like the reasoning that sometimes bad guys are misunderstood (not the wording used, cause I forgot to make note of the exact wording used by Lexi in the story). I actually did like it, enough that I will want to read book 2 to see where this goes. I did like the character development, and could feel more than just chemistry between the main characters. The only draw back, a huge amount of deities (not sure that’s enough of an all encompassing term for the powerful characters with certain links into mythology, religion, or lore) were introduced near the end, a few too many that I hadn’t heard of, that left me not so happy with no real background to them. I think the author should have a chart or something with the breakdown, kind of a short wiki thing or cliff-notes as a reference for us dummies who don’t remember to note the names to go Google them -after returning the book from KindleUnlimited. Oh well, I guess that’s more on me than actually the author. Promising series if book 2 can match book 1.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW of The Devil's Delight by L.A. Boruff and JL Burns. This first book in the Demons and Demigods series is sinfully entertaining! Loaded with action, drama, humor, magic, mayhem, steamy sex and intense situations. I loved this read and the amazingly developed characters that are Lucifer and Lexi! I love the way mythology and folklore are woven together into the storyline. Lucifer has been ousted from Hell and has opened a bakery in Boston. Lexi is considered a walking bad luck charm and bakes whenever depressed about her love life. When these two meet, funny things happen and it isn't long before trouble follows. But as the daughter of Loki, God of Mischief, tha'ts just par for the course. When secrets come to light and Lucifer decides it's time to fight for his throne to save humanity, will Lexi understand? More importantly, who will stand with Lucifer to regain control of Hell before it spills onto the human realm! This book does not resolve (Cliffhanger Warning), it does set up for the next book. This is a Mature Readers Only Read.

PN NA action-romance, multicultural, serial/ cliffhanger

I appreciated the research the author did to make her mythical characters and setting more believable historically instead of going with is said about them in certain circles. Book one is the getting to know you part of this plot arch and slower paced while preparing readers for episode two, which pretty much hits the ground running, so I'm glad I was able to read them close together. I was so caught up in the story, I immediately started on the next, even though I really should have been sleeping. Eagerly looking forward to part three. The final version of part one was read through my KU subscription currently available on The Amazopoly. Happily, this reader's red pin didn't cause a reading flow issue. I found Ms. Boruff through both Booksprout and her website if readers need a format that will work with your hardware *if proof of purchase or KU is given and you are print-impaired. My review of part two will also be posted, but I didn't want to invoke a spoiler tag beyond mentioning the last page is not the end of the story.

This has been my honest feedback.

THE DEVIL'S DELIGHT is the first book in the Demons & Demigods series. This series will need to be read in the order of release.

Absolutely entertaining, un-put-downable, sexy, romantic, thrilling, laugh-out-loud mayhem, myth, and folklore combined to make this an amazing story. The ultimate Demon – Lucifer – and a sweet little Demigoddess have been written in prophecy. Bourff and Burns prove that not all prophecies lead to doom for us mere mortals. I guess it depends on the interpretation of the words.

This is a great beginning to a new series, and I am looking forward to continuing this battle alongside Lexi, Luci, and Loki. (Yea, I like alliteration, too).

Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

There has been a coup in hell and Lucifer has been removed from power. After escaping his chains, he masquerades as Sam, the owner of a popular bakery in Boston while planning his revenge. Lexi is the secret daughter of a powerful witch and Loki. She's known on campus for spreading her special "bad luck". After her roommate tells her the bakery is in need of more help, she takes a chance and offers her baking skills. There's instant chemistry between Sam and Lexi that extends from the kitchen to the bedroom. Theirs is a connection powerful enough to bring on the forces of heaven, hell, and earth to their knees.

Such a ridiculous premise. I love it. Lucifer as a baker; Loki as a doting, overprotective father; Lexi as a chaos-causing co-ed. Add in a feline "sibling" and gods from all realms and religions and this book delivers one entertaining read. And that ending... I always thought she was misunderstood but it looks more like she was underestimated. Devilishly delightful!

The beginning of the book caught my interest. The dialog between characters was funny and the pace was good.

Somewhere about half way through, my interest started to wane, but I wanted to continue thinking the story would pick up again. I hit the 78% mark and I just couldn’t do it anymore. I realized I had less than an hours worth of reading and aside from one extremely big fight sequence, literally nothing of note happened in the story.

There were lots of hinting at things and I kept waiting to find out what those “things” were. If I ever did find out what they were, they happened at points in the story where I had either already figured it out or just didn’t really care anymore.

Not really sure what happened. The writing was pretty good, typical of the genre….but somewhere along the way it just fell flat for me.

Many others seem to like the book based on the reviews and rating so it looks like I am in the minority, so give it a shot. You may end up liking it.

Lucifer escaped hell where he was kept a prisoner by Abaddon Lucifer kills the demons that come after him at night but during the day he was bored so he opened a bakery called Sinsational Sweets he ran it himself under the name Sam Rivers and it was a popular place especially for the women. Every time Lexi would get stressed or wished for something bad luck would happen she didn’t have any luck dating guys because something would always go wrong she couldn’t help it she’s a witch and her dating life was just sad so Lexi gets a part time job working at Sinsational Sweets where she meets Lucifer aka Sam and from there Lexi’s life will never be the same again. I loved this story and I can’t wait to read book 2 and I definitely recommend this book.

Loved it!

Wow! This book is so well written! Lexi the main character owed it. She was not shy with her feeling she knew what she likes, what she didn’t like. She is growing into her own powers and I can’t wait to see how she evolves.

I loved reading this book for many reasons. Ok. So here goes. Often time when reading books they down play the main characters ability to decide if they like the demon or not where the kissing scenes is debatable throughout the book or half way through. This book gets towards the good parts. Hence where she owed it. This book was a good sense of change. It’s different. The writer balanced out her sexual comforts with her magical clumsiness.

I had picked this one up on a whim, and I'm glad I did!

I was surprised that Lexi and Sam/Lucifer were actually quite well developed characters. Lexi was well balanced between struggling with her powers and parentage and still managing to be a strong, decisive woman. I was worried that Sam/Lucifer would be a bit one dimensional, but he ended up having way more depth to him than I expected!

A criticism would be that I wanted some more world building. I did enjoy focusing on Lexi and Sam/Lucifer's relationship, but there's a lot happening in this world, so some more context would have been helpful.

Overall, the story had a great build-up, and I'm excited to see what happens in book 2!

This book was so much fun! It takes a bunch of global mythologies and tips them on their collective ear. There’s just enough of what is commonly known to feel familiar, with a dose of sass and some new theories to make it all fresh and exciting. And since so many of the mythologies that have been pulled together for this book are my own personal favorites, I spent nearly the whole book fangirling like Lexi during the strategy meeting. I’m dying to find out what happens next.

I received a free copy of this books via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It is an intense read as Lucifer with Lexi at his side fight to regain his throne in hell. They are aided by a wide range of allies from all walks of life. Lexi evolves as a college girl wanting normal to being a goddess at Lucifer's side. I really enjoyed reading all the battles and the relationship of Lucifer and Lexi as it developed. However, once all was won, one of Lucifer's treasures reveals there is more to do.

Lexi is a witch who is having trouble controlling her powers and Lucifer (Sam) is the owner of the bakery where Lexi gets hired. I loved the way Lucifer felt when Lexi walked into the bakery and how their connection was powerful. The Devil's Delight is a fun, paranormal romance with some interesting twists, action, humor, steam, and intriguing characters. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. What is there to say if a story is about Demigods, as well as Lucifer, I am reading it. The way that this is set up is so original, Satan running a bakery, who would of thought. I love Lexi and Lucifer's relationship. Is the AC on? It is a bit warm in these pages! Great Read!

Control

Lexi has a major issue controlling her magic but just wants a normal life. Sam/Lucifer is hiding and biding his time before going after his throne. Can he teach her to control her temper or will he run away because of the emotions she causes him to feel? Will her parentage and their secrets change how they feel about each other?

This story is a terrific beginning to what I’m sure will be a great series. There’s so much build up; first the sexual tension (which, when it explodes, is so H.O.T. hot it’s on fire!), then the secrets are revealed and the battle tension ramps up. I’m excited for this new series to scratch my Lucifer itch!

I thoroughly enjoyed diving into this new series and I can't say enough about how fun it was. Mythology twisted in a unique way, Lucifer as a baker - say what?! ;P, Lexi as a strong but clumsy demi god, action, sizzling chemistry and a fab good vs evil plot that kept me totally glued. The characters really came to life for me and I read this in one sitting. I am dying to see what comes next!

I totally loved this concept! Lucifer living on earth… as a baker. I don’t think anyone needs to (or should) be one note. It makes sense to me that he’d find hobbies over the millennia that calm him. And he obviously gets his kicks flirting with customers. Seeing Loki in a different light with Lexi is also a great detail. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I really enjoyed this story! The characters were fun and I loved the different take on it with the demons, demigods and mythology aspect. I loved getting to see different side to Lucifer and thought the authors did a fantastic job. The story was well written and engaging and a lot of fun. I am looking forward to the next in the series!

Devilish good fun

This is an amazing read. Every religion, mythology you could think of and more are all mashed together as Lucifer, disguised as a bakery owner plots to take back his throne. Falling in love with a trickster gods daughter is a path he didn't see coming and both he and Lexi are fantastic together. Look forward to book two!
