Okay, maybe nightmare is too strong, but he's definitely no picnic.
Ben is the broody, dare I say grumpy, owner of the hottest gallery in NYC. He knows everyone in the art world, and everyone knows him.
I was happy in my current job, but what's a girl to do when you’re head hunted and offered the job of your dreams and the salary to match?
Managing Ben’s gallery and getting to feature the newest, most sought after artists in the New York art scene is the stuff dreams are made of. So I guess I can tolerate my boss's surly, grumpy personality, all while enjoying the ... ahem ... scenery.
That all changes one fateful night. I'm putting on the best gallery event of my life when Ben urgently pulls me aside and asks me to pose as his fiancée for the rest of the night.
Ummm ... this wasn't in my job description. And neither is the kiss he lays on me before the night is over.
When the event ends, our deception doesn't. And eventually, I can't tell if what's going on between us is still just pretend, or if somewhere along the way it's become all too real.
But the surprises where Ben is concerned are nowhere near over. And one of them just might change my life forever ...
Kate is working at the museum and putting together a display of letters written by Van Gogh. The show is the day after tomorrow and she gets a surprise phone call from Ben Russell who happens to own several galleries including a very large and popular one there in New York. Ben tells Kate that he has an offer for her and if she will meet him at his gallery tomorrow. She finally agrees. Ben offers her a high priced position at his gallery and she agrees. Two weeks later she starts at Ben's gallery but she doesn't think she likes him much. He's pretty much off putting with her and is really hard to gage. He wants her to basically run the gallery for him so he doesn't have to deal with the human aspect of the business. As Kate begins going through customer files and such she makes a point to contact every artist who has works of art showing in the gallery to let them know of her new position there and that she will always be available for them.
Things get interesting when Kate wants to have a showing of one of the gallery's most artists whose name is Thomas Sewell. First of all Ben doesn't like it, then after listening to Kate he changes his mind and allows her to set it up. Hundreds of people from around the world come to see the display including Ben's ex-girlfriend and his old friend that she had an affair with. Surprising Kate, Ben kisses her in front of his ex and says that they are engaged.
Things get hot real fast. So many secrets and loads of good stuff too. I really loved all of the characters that were in great detail around the art world. Thank you Hazel Parker for writing this well thought out story. I loved it. Definitely put this on your to be read pile. Enjoy!
Bengermine Russell has secrets and heartbreak he owns and exclusive art gallery in New York but he is one major recluse after a bad relationship. Kate Carter is busy with no life outside her job for the musiam but when Russell hires her to run his art gallery it should be her dream job but her elusive boss is never around and when he is around he drives her crazy then something happens and her name is Rebecca the ex the cause of all Ben's sorrow. One little lie about Ben and Kate's relationship and the ex thinks there engaged. What started out as a lie became more until you guessed it Rebecca happens again.
I loved this story it had some slight angst some romance and heat it was nice how the relationship developed between the characters and the Epilogue was really sweet.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book but also purchased a copy.
Ben is full of secrets as well as being very wealthy and owns a well known art gallery. He is mostly a recluse and sticks to himself. Tires easily when he needs to converse with other people. He is also smart and realizes that he needs to make some changes to keep his art gallery on top. He decides to hire Kate Carter and well respected manager of a museum who knows how to network and run social media to her company's advantage. Russell offers her an amazing salary and an opportunity to basically run her own gallery. He though drives her crazy and her attraction to him is just over the top. This was a good story with a few good twists that keep you reading to the end. Don't want to spoil the story. There are good characters and some off the charts chemistry. This is an enjoyable read.
I voluntarily wrote this review from reading an advanced copy of this book.
Oh holy hotness Ben and Kate's story is soooo good. A swoon worthy boss and sassy worker. They go from professional to pretend but will they become real . So worth reading and worth more than 5*. I loved this book so much I read it twice . You will fall in love with Ben and Kate's story. You will not be able to put this book down
Writing is good, characters are well drawn, but.... I really, really dislike when a blurb (or in this case, the actual title) misrepresents the story. This *not* a 'pregnancy romance'. A pregnancy is mentioned in the epilogue and has zero part in the story itself. Which would have been perfectly okay if the title didn't suggest otherwise.
Terrific love story of bitter, angry, broken hearted gallery owner, Ben, and energetic art director hired to brighten and develop his gallery! Old love returns, causes problems, lovers must be honest and open to reach their HEA! Genuinely endearing and sweet!
