Can the Brits and Yanks team up to solve a murder?
What should have been an easy week for small town detective Mark Taber and his amateur sleuth and innkeeper wife, Donna Tolllhouse Taber goes awry when a local garden club member is shot. One of the inn guests, a Scotland Yard detective's insistence on helping could actually make things worse. Can ruffled feathers be smoothed before the killer strikes again?
M. K. Scott is the husband and wife writing team behind The Painted Lady Inn Mysteries, The Talking Dog Detective Agency, which is set In Indianapolis, and The Way Over the Hill Gang series.
Morgan K Wyatt is the general wordsmith, while her husband, Scott, is the grammar hammer and physics specialist. He uses his engineering skills to explain how fast a body falls when pushed over a cliff and various other felonious activities.
Morgan’s daughter, who works at a hotel, has contributed a guest horror tale or two to fuel plot lines along with housekeeping details. Overall, the series are a family effort.
Plenty of red herrings and potential suspects, not to mention appealing characters including the visiting Howard and Elizabeth, plus a humorous tone, made Two Many Sleuths a fun introduction to this very cozy series. Innkeeper Donna, unlike her police detective husband, Mark, is sure her Scotland Yard detective guest is going to be a treasure trove of crime-solving tips but things don’t quite go that way when a local garden club member is murdered. Will the two real detectives solve the case or will their wives prove they have their own investigating skills?
In a review of another book by M K Scott, I mentioned that I thought the writing was a little stilted and I had the same reaction to Two Many Sleuths. Now, I’ve come to believe that’s just Scott’s style and it certainly didn’t keep me from enjoying the story.
I might also have encountered some difficulty because I haven’t read any of the eleven previous books in the series but the authors presented enough backstory to make me quite comfortable with the characters and setting. Also, readers who are not very familiar with “Brit-speak” will appreciate the included glossary of British lingo.
All said, this was a fun read and I think cozy fans will enjoy it.
Mark and Donna are expecting guests from London. The guests are Howard Dudley and his wife, Elizabeth. Howard is a Scotland Yard detective. Just when Mark and Donna are preparing to leave for the airport to pick up the guests, Mark receives a phone call related to a probable murder. The victim is Margery Baumgarten, a member of the local gardening club. Initially, Donna asked Mark not to get involved, but when she learned the victim's name, she changed her mind.
The husband is rumored to be a womanizer and may have been cheating on his wife. When the English guests get settled, Mark invites Howard to help with the case, leaving Donna to keep Elizabeth busy. Donna's idea is to have Elizabeth accompany her while she does her own investigation.
Who killed Margaret? Why was she killed? Are other garden club members in danger? Will the British guests affect the investigation? Will Donna and Elizabeth be able to find any information to help solve the mystery?
M K Scott has another wonderful mystery that will keep readers engaged clear to the end. The story has wonderful characters and realistic situations. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing clear to the end.
Donna and her policeman husband have a couple visiting from England and staying at their B & B. It is a detective from Scotland Yard and his wife. When it is announced that a local woman had been murdered, the two guys go off to investigate. Donna and the English lady decide to investigate on their own, given that people will often speak openly to local ladies and not the police. It is all fun and games from beginning to end.
An utterly charming cozey mystery with a dash of murder, the characters are vibrant and colorful with the occasional stick in the mud. The mystery is plays out in intriguing and whimsical ways while the plot is unravels through one comical and event 😀after another. Acquire " Two Many Sleuths " today for a great few hours of entertainment. 🤨😏🤔😉😀Kat
Donna runs a B&B with some help from her husband Mark, a police detective. They are expecting some special guests from "over the pond" in the form of Howard, a Scotland Yard detective, and his wife Elizabeth.
Luckily there is a murder to keep them all entertained, and while Mark is allowed to have Howard tag along with him with the official sanction of his Chief, Donna takes Elizabeth with her to prove (again) that Donna's intuition and knowledge of the locals has its place in helping the official investigation, and so Elizabeth can demonstrate to her disapproving husband that she too can solve crimes.
Some humour is thrown into the mix by the contrast between Donna's expectations of what she thinks English people like to do, and Elizabeth's list of "American" things she wants to do while in the USA, plus the misunderstandings that arise from the differences between American English and British English (language).
An entertaining cosy mystery that has my wife and I looking forward to reading more books in the series.
Oh yes, and there are recipes included at the back of the book too!
Carla and Mark own The Painted Lady Inn. Mark is a detective and Carla sometimes helps him solve a case. They are having guests from London. Howard, a friend of Marks and a Scotland Yard detective, and his wife Elizabeth. Howard won't listen to anything she says when it comes to his cases. Carla decides to do her own investigation and invites Elizabeth to help her. What will the guys say about this? Especially Howard. Who will figure it out first? It was fun to read this delightful story. The plot is well thought out and the story is well written. Characters are fleshed out. M K has another winner!
This is the first book I’ve read in this series & it quickly got me into the scene. B&B hostess with her policeman husband have a Scotland Yard detective & his wife visiting & as they are about to go & collect them from the airport, a murder us announced! Now Donna has helped her husband with previous crime deductions but Elizabeth from England has never been allowed to do so! So it comes as a beautiful surprise to be included in the sleuthing. Naturally things aren’t as they seem & everything ends surprisingly well, murder considered!
Donna, owner of a B&B, and her husband, Mark, a police detective are hosting guests from London. There is a murder and Mark takes the London detective with him. Donna, and the London detective's wife investigate on their own. Enjoy the antics as Donna shows Elizabeth around the area while investigating. Follow along as they gather clues and piece together the facts to uncover the culprit. This is a fun read and the twelfth in the series. Enjoy.
When a local woman is shot while working in her garden, Donna swings into action to help her detective husband. This time she is aided by the wife of a visiting Scotland Yard detective. I love this author’s work and this book is no exception. Skilled writing, well drawn characters and a fun mystery to unravel. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to write a voluntary, unbiased review.
Two Many Sleuths is a fun new mystery in this series. Mark and Donna are some of my favorite sleuths. The British visitors, Scotland Yard Detective Inspector Howard Dudley and his wife Elizabeth, made a nice addition to the usual cast of characters. This well written book has clues and suspects galore. I could not put the book down. I figure out one little thing but did not come close to solving the case. It is a good thing Donna was on the ball!
When a Scotland Yard Detective and his wife come to stay at the Painted Lady, Donna anticipates getting tips about solving murders. How wrong can she be? Turns out things go a little different direction in this wonderful twelfth episode of the series. Donna's partner is the very excited and willing wife of the Scotland Yard detective!
Funny details, great characters, good food (and recipes shared!) mix with a mystery that has red herrings and an ending totally unpredictable. One problem. It was over too soon! I loved it!
This was a cute, very entertaining cozy mystery. I loved how Donna worked her way into situations where she could find clues. She relied on gossip and people's need to put their nose into everyone else's business. She had an assistant in a household guest, Elizabeth. I enjoyed the tracking down of clues, Donna's attempts to be British, and Elizabeth's American List of things to accomplish. The mystery got lost a couple of times, but this was a story worth reading.
I received a copy of this story through Goddess Fish Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.

Don't judge a book by its cover is yet another popular and mass used phase you must have heard that too not less than a million times and yet we end up falling in the same trap countless times abdthat is what happened to me when I decided to pick this book up and it's not the first time it happened to me either, with this book Two Many Sleuths: Sweet Tea Meets Earl Grey Over Murder which is the twelfth installment of The Painted Lady Inn Mysteries Book by Author MK Scott which is a murder mystery but I assumed it to be children fiction or adventure book through its cover.
The story unfolds in a hotel/cottage called Painted Lady Inn's and area's local detective Donna Tolllhouse Taber and her husband Mark Taber have a suspenseful murder to solve about and to help them in the investigation of this unexpected crime joins in their acquaintances Howard, and the trio detangles the mystery.
In my opinion it was surely an entertaining and gripping read, where I found the plot placement not that unique but actually safe and enjoyable as I personally enjoyed and felt invested to crime at a hotel plot with an easy language and unexpected ending.
When innkeeper Donna's acquaintance is murdered, she can't help but look into the crime and encourage her detective husband to work the case, too. But with guests arriving from across the pond, will Donna get assistance with her case or find out that she's got too many sleuths on the case?
I loved this book! It provided a quick and entertaining read. The prose was uncomplicated and easy to digest. The pacing was excellent, the story moved quickly. The characters were extremely realistic and likeable. I found myself laughing out loud a few times at Donna.
The book overall was light, quick, fun and funny. It was a really fun ride and I highly enjoyed it. This is the first book I’ve read in this series and I had no problems jumping in mid-series at all.
I would highly recommend this book and this series!
When an English couple come to the B and B owned and operated by Donna Tollhouse-Donna tries to make everything British. The couple-at least the wife wanted everything American--in this case Southern. The husband was a Scotland Yard Detective and thought he knew everything! Donna's husband was also a detective-they got along fine.
Donna and the wife had more in common then they realized. When a murder was committed they got together to try to solve it. Of course they had to sneak around their husbands-neither of whom wanted them involved in anything to do with this case-even though Donna had helped solve others.
These two go about it with a Southern Ladies know how!! You are sure to enjoy this clean cozy!! I laughed at some of the stuff they got into--and grimaced at others!

Mark and Donna have another mystery on their hands while one of their guests is from Scotland Yard! Plenty of twists and turns to the story. Great characters make it a fun read! I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion!
