Reagan has, and will always be, one of my absolute favorite characters created by K.F. Breene, and I loved the ultimate conclusion to her story. We have been waiting for this battle for so long, and it did not disappoint. I also loved that the battle and what led up to it wasn’t as clear cut, black/white, us vs. them, as so many books are. It’s hard to tell, sometimes, who the bad guys are. This book makes it clear that there is a level of gray in most things, and most people have bad and good in them at the same time. (Except for the elves—they are bad all the time.) The Battle was so much fun to read, and so satisfying at the end of the day. I am so going to miss being in Reagan’s head. It’s such a crazy and scary place to be, but her quirkiness and unpredictability are so fun to follow. And the epilogue. Yes, I cried. It was perfect. Thank you for this fitting and appropriate ending to Reagan’s story, Queen Breene. It was everything it should have been and more!
At the bottom, the various creatures gawked before bending. If they didn’t bend? I made them. Because I could. The smile grew on my face. I knew this. I was comfortable with this. Forcing my hand. Being an ass. I could do this in my sleep and, moreover, it was damn fun. Way more fun than chasing shifters. 🤣🤣🤣
I haven’t read more crazy heroine than her, yet! 😳😂🤣 So good! ☺️
Now, let’s talk about this series as a whole, okay? Obviously I love the storyline, you will too if you’re Ms. Breene’s fans and familiar with the craziness in her characters. ❤️
Did I read all 11 books in the series? Yes I did. Did I love them all? Sigh, No I didn’t. Not because of the story, mind you but I couldn’t stand with Damsel in distress type of heroine. Penny the heroine of book 4-6, exactly like that 🥴. But the story saved by Regan and Darius which were supporting characters there and Penny’s story is important as a whole and many readers doesn’t have problems with Penny, so you probably will love her books too 😘.
Then, we’ve got Charity’s, books 7-8. I like her enough, however the NA storyline is very strong here, she and Devon were college students, and I’m not a fan of NA either 😳🥴😂. But the story still interesting and lots of Regan and Darius too 😍 So, you must read it, beside Charity is a kickass heroine too, like Regan 😘.
So, there you go. The best ones for me were Regan and Darius as main characters, I even reread book 1-3 immediately after finished this one but as a whole this series is a fabulous reading and you should start reading if you’re fan of Fantasy/PNR with a strong and wild heroine with a sweet hero who worship the ground she walks on 😜🥰😂.
I really enjoyed this one. Tbh I expected more battles, but I ain't complaining. I love the ending. Well actually, I am complaining. Why is this the end?! I am so sad to let the characters go. It seriously speaks about the fantastic character building. Breene created a fantastic group of characters, neither complete villain nor utter hero. Undoubtedly, what won my heart. But then there is fantastic world-building. I mean, merpeople revelations are part of this installation, need I say more? Top all of that with a witty and clever writing style. And I am hooked. The storyline was not as good as the previous books, IMO. But did nicely tie loose ends and gave me a finish that I can happily live with. Well, except that it ended.
I actually can't believe eleven books later I still want more. But here we go; I want a book about my fave druid. Also, I want more of the crew. I want... more!
Have you ever finished a series, and immediately wanted to start from book 1 again? Maybe read it more slowly, just so you can savor it for a little bit longer? No? Then you will with this series.
This final book in the DDVN world was…. Everything! Reagan has truly grown from when we first met her in Born in Fire. She has developed lasting friendships and connections. She has (oddly) even met and liked her father (Hello Lucifer!). Penny has come into her own as well. She was unsure of herself in the beginning and has been through the trenches since then. Yet she carries on and has emerged confident and strong. Darius and Emery have been the perfect mates for Reagan and Penny, supporting them and having their backs without taking over.
We see smaller story arcs come to a close and questions answered that we have been pondering for a while now (merpeople obviously lol). More than that, we see a flawless grand finale to the overarching story arc that begin in book 1. Breene has written many good books with great stories but she topped herself in Battle with Fire! I was impressed with the depth of emotion and personality for each character in this series and the amount of emotions pulled from me in this book was astronomical. This is simply a story you do NOT want to miss. I plan to revisit this series over and over again and hope for spin-offs so I don’t have to contemplate never peeking into their lives again. So instead of goodbye and the end to this world and my book friends, I will say “I will see you again”. Probably soon haha.
This book series was absolutely fantastic and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire 11 books. Often after a few books a series looses its thrill and it becomes repetitive. I absolutely love this series but sadly, all good things must come to an end . The final battle was as epic as I hoped it to be and more, fast paced from the first page all our fav characters come together in a crazy epic finale with a plan that didn't have a hope in hell of working but this is Reagan & Penny we are talking about. The rest of the crew all come together perfectly as expected from k f breene. Truly amazing storyline from book 1 to book 11. You can’t ask for a better series.
An Epic & Unmissable Conclusion To This Series!💥💥💥💥 It. Is. EVERYTHING!😍💘🔥🌟🙏💕 Battle With Fire (Demon Days & Vampire Nights, Book #11)
Wow, that was an adrenaline pumping, exhilarating and exhausting read.😍 It leaves everything on the page, nothing was left unsaid. Everything gets attempted or investigated to help in some way!🙈 It was masterfully crafted to leave the reader completely satisfied with the main character's endings, good or bad!😳
We're still given big surprises throughout, which I found amazing after eleven books.👍 This storyline felt as fresh in book #11 as did in book #1 back in January 2018!🌟 We obviously know Reagan & co much better now and they've all grown massive amounts from where it all started. I can definitely see scope for more stories from within this world build, if the author so wishes.🙏 I'd personally, love to read some spin off books.😍
This was a fast paced & emotive read. It's full of friendship, love, snark & romance but also fear, coldness, manipulation & war!😱😭 Strength of character & the flat refusal to take the easy path, is huge in this book - Gareth could learn a thing or twenty!🙈😡
I'm so sad to say goodbye but thankfully I'm also left content by this wonderful conclusion!🌟💘🙏 Thank you 😘
This was a fantastic conclusion to the series, super satisfying. This series is already on my favorites list, but this cemented it. Will definitely re-read this series (but probably skipping the Charity books, because man, I just didn't like her or Devon) - Reagan, Darius, Emery, and Penny are some of my favorite UF leads ever.
And I loved the complicated relationship with Lucifer ... and was just totally happy with how everything landed.
If there are spin-offs in this world showing us Cahal or Roger, I am more than here for it.
Michael can suck it though. Those guys are so full of themselves. Ha!
I've just read the last three books of this series back to back, and I just adored every single second of it.
Regan is one of my favourite heroines ever. She is just an absolutely perfect anti-hero and I love her so much. These books just have absolutely every ingredient to be awesome.
This final book did not disappoint and I was very happy with how it ended. So much potential for spin offs exist, so I'm hoping we're not done in this world.
{4.5 rounded down} It is not easy to compose a series' conclusion, satisfying any loose threads and deciding on the final outcome, especially with multiple gray sides as in this case. This was a well balanced ending to satisfy most readers expectations, with a dash of things to come..
Knowing that this author has ended other series so well, such as Warrior Chronicles, it is shocking that this has received so many high ratings. This was a "over it/tired/get it over with" type of ending. Knowing the author has moved onto other series and has a lot planned with those series helps confirm this. Also, the constant switching between first and third person between multiple points of view while still never providing a fuller, more complete story was unnecessary. It was very "here's a peak" but that's it. I mean do you as a reader really want the description of the furnishings of Roger's inherited ranch or would you rather have what was said and who said what in the meeting? And making EVERYTHING happen while R is unconscious is a great way to skirt having to write more. Oh and then all the final chapters... weeks later, months later, etc. still circumventing any tangible details. I mean yay for marriages, proposals, and possibilities, but most felt rushed and incomplete. At least with Warrior Chronicles you felt that nothing was just skipped over because the author just wanted to move on. There are tons of other completed series that are ended better. This author has proven that she could accomplish this before. Sadly, this missed the mark for me.
It has taken four years, ten books, many battles, a lot of changes, the forming of unbreakable bonds and the meeting of the Devil to come to fruition but it is finally here! The final battle!
We have watched Reagan grow from a loner, supernatural bounty hunter to a worlds wide force not to be reckoned with! She has gathered together some of the strongest people in all the worlds and they have become more than friends but family to her. When once she cared for no one she can now only care about all of them before herself.
The lines have been drawn. Sides have been chosen. The final adventure has begun.
No one could have anticipated what happens in this final book! It has everything lovers of the series have come to expect and love but oh so much more than even that! There was lots of steam. There were the massive battles we look forward to. I was gripping the pages in anticipation. Of course I laughed. I was not prepared for the tears though! I cannot imagine a more perfect, epic, all inclusive ending than this one! I hate to see this series end but it went out in perfect style!!!
Whelp another one bites the dust. The 11th and final book in the DDVN world. I am sad to see this Epic series come to an end. It is my top series in the world to date. I have grown to love the crazy town and quirkiness of all the characters. Reagan is one of best characters to ever be written. There were a few tears, lots of laughs and plenty of action. Take heed movie makers out there, this is one of a few of KF’s series that could be made into movies. KF is a Master Craftswoman, and her writing is surpassed by none. She has a brand of crazy that just sweeps you away in to the wonderous worlds only she can create.
In this book we face the final battle that we knew was always coming but secretly hoped would never come. By the time I had finished it I felt like I had gone through the last battle with them.
KF I once again salute you and your brilliant mind. Cheers!
Honestly, can Reagan’s HEA have been any more perfect?! It was not even cheesy, it was…. Perfect. The war between the elves and Lucifer, I never really understood what the Red Prophet kept insinuating about Reagan being “in the middle”‘of it. How can a small force of mages and shifters tear down demons from one side and elves from the other. But it was explained, and it was brilliant. Going around!!!! No spoilers, you will understand when you read it, boom, mind blowing! You can’t even hate Lucifer. Lucifer, come on, who would have thought he would have been liked. Such a fantastic ending to the Series! Lovedddd it
Ugh, I’m so sad the ride is over. Regan is one of my favorite characters from a book, and seeing her kick butt has been fantastic, along with all the awesome side characters we meet along the way. It ended in a bang, and what a bang it was. I’ll miss this awesome world.
A good ending to the series. Reagan does what Reagan does best. And that epilogue… Darius is awesome. I hope we get some insights in the future her and Darius with kids, it would be hilarious.
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
I had rated book 1 at 4 stars, but for me the love interest just kept losing points with each book and so did the MC. I only kept going because I had got all of the series after reading the first book.
I just do not find it attractive in a would be romantic partner / actual 'mate' to not allow the love interest agency. Nor do I like that the MC accepted that, because he 'loves her'.
MC became a doormat re the love interest (and his 'children'), so lost me.
Also the big battle etc. didn't work for me. The reasoning of why things turned out how they did and such just didn't make sense for me. But I could have forgiven that and still given the book a 3 star, if not for the stuff in the above spoilers.
For me the MC and if they have one the love interest, are what makes or breaks a story / series.
First time read the author's work?: No
Will you be reading more?: No
Would you recommend?: No
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
THE LAST BOOK! WHY? Just continue the series forever, please.
All the loose ends were tied off, and this is definitely one of the most seamless endings to a series that I have witnessed. The post-book depression is about to hit, I can feel it.
I am going to tell everyone I know how great this series is. Thank you for the fun, hilarious, and emotion-packed journey. Until next time!
The ending to an excellent series! Loved every second. Loved this series- devoured all 11- Yes- 11 books! I also listened to the dramatized versions on Audible. Reagan’s secret is out- she can openly use her powers- oh and her dad- well- don’t want to spoil it! She has good friends, an awesome team- and a super hot man! This book is the ultimate ending of a long ride packed with ups downs- all secrets r out and a twist. I loved this series. If u like urban fantasy with a strong female lead- this is u!!
Well, what can I say? This has been a phenomenal series and part of me is sad to see that it is at its end. But, there are enough things going on in this world that there are lots and lots of possibilities for additional spin offs. And like we have seen in the past, our favorite couples (at least our favorites SO FAR) tend to make appearances in these spin offs. It is truly such a joy to be able to get a sneak peak into whatever is occurring with the current goings on, events and news from these favorites. Sometimes the news is hilarious, and sometimes its just nice to get to see them again.
Beyond that, we (the reader) knew going in to this last book that there were still a lot of loose ends left and some twisted plot lines that if were not answered, then hopefully would be at least explained to us so that we could understand some of the dynamics and/or reasoning behind some of our questions. This last installment did not disappoint.
I've mentioned before that one of the things I found so surprising was the fact that I found myself liking Reagan's dad. For those of you who know who that is....I think that’s why my feelings toward him pretty much blew my mind. Reagan has a tendency to think that she has to do everything on her own and it is FINALLY starting to sink in for her that she has many, many people in her core group that would do anything to help her. Fight along side of her, shelter her, you name it. She has earned their respect.
Another one of my favorite things was the relationship that has developed between Reagan and Penny. It’s been a long journey. Those two are so unbelievably funny now…seriously funny whether they want to be or not. This is another example of us getting to see Penny's growth now from where she was mentally and when she was under her mothers thumb when her story started several books ago.
Without spoilers, let me just say this was a GREAT conclusion to this series. Ms. Breene was able to utilize things (strengths and sometimes even weaknesses) from ALL of the supernatural factions and find a way to use them in order to help them to unite. They actually put their faith in Reagan - which if we can remember the beginning of this series...that was NOT something I ever saw coming.
Great series. Great conclusion.
Ms. Breene is now an automatic buy for me. The last couple of series from her have been pretty amazing.
Copied from book 9 of the series because this trilogy feels like one book.
So. The rip roaring finale of this series caught me by surprise and as it turns out, probably a good thing. By the time I found it, this trilogy part of the series was complete. Honestly, this trilogy felt more like a single book than a trilogy, so I shall review it that way. The first book is laying the groundwork, the second book moves everything forward, and the third and final book finishes what began in the first book. Not one of these feels complete in and of itself and I am quite happy that I found them when I did - which was shortly after book 3 was released. So, I am treating this review as if the trilogy were one book.
I will admit, Reagan is not my favorite character in this series. Charity is. There is not enough Charity in this trilogy. In fact, it almost feels like why did we seriously waste 2 books of the series talking about Charity? Was it just filler?
Penny (and Emery) come shining through and the relationship between Penny and Reagan is priceless and relatable and believable. It was good to see her again.
Ultimately, to me, the story took far, FAR too long to conclude. And, Reagan spent too much time away from everyone else. To fill up the time there is tons and TONS of sex scenes, far more than either necessary or typical of the series. Many of these scenes between Darius and Reagan involve dialog that is necessary to move the plot, so they are hard to flip past.
The finale and ultimate solution of the world building was interesting and no, I did not see that coming. I am still waffling on my thoughts and feelings and its effect on me. I do really love these characters, and was disappointed that *all* the characters in the world building did not get a satisfying conclusion. I am disappointed in that I feel like there was too much filler and this could have been a duology at the most, and, more adequately, a single book. Typically in a series like this, I like to spread the books out to keep from the feeling of being overdone and just getting tired of the writing style, but did not feel able to do that.
Don't get me wrong, I still love the series, but, ultimately, this could have been better.
Oh my goodness!! I’ve loved this series so much! I don’t want to say goodbye. I want to see Darius, Reagan, Emery, and Penny have families and children. I’m hoping there will be spin offs. Here’s a quick re-cap and my whole two cents.
Quick Re-cap:
Reagan and team must stop Lucifer and the Elves from destroying each other, but they don’t know exactly how. The red prophet and Karen aren’t of much help and all the visions appear like Reagan will die. It’s Reagan’s responsibility to figure out how to unite everyone and create order and fairness to the realm and magical world.
My two cents:
I have loved this series since the first book. Every character is quirky, strong, and well developed. This book once again brought Reagan and team together, which made my heart soar.
I loved Dizzy and Callie being there to provide guidance when Reagan needed it. And Emery and Penny being with Reagan every step of the way. Plus Ja’s appearances. All the characters added so much!
The final battle was everything I hoped it would be. Reagan was herself until the end, but we also saw her grow up a little, which was very realistic for someone in her position.
There was more sex in this book than I was expecting! They weren’t hellfire hot, but they were probably relief on hand worthy.
Give this book series a try if sci-fi books are your thing. If they aren’t, then I’m not sure you’ll like it. Happy reading y’all!!
Wow! What an ending for the ages! But then again, I expect nothing less from KF Breene. When the Queen ends a series, other authors should bow down and take note. There are so many loose ends to tie up, and I definitely feel like they are answered perfectly. There was even a surprising bonus scene for a loose end I didn’t even realize I had been missing. It was so unexpected and exciting when I realized what was coming.
The sign of a great series is that you don’t want it to end, which is absolutely true with the DDVN world. The main story arc is completed; but, thankfully one door is left wide open for a spin-off. All of your favorite characters are gathered for the final battle between all the power players. Breene has really hyped up the final battle, and it’s really captivating to watch the story unfold as many mysteries become solved. You can see how much the plot and story has developed over the 11 books based on all the politics between the different beings in the world. Mermaids, Vampires, Demons, Fae, Shifters, Mages, Elves, Dragons, Unicorns - they’re all there. By the end, the only way I’m left wanting is more on the Druid Cahal. Like so many others, we wish this series could continue; but I’m excited to see what new addictive series Breene has up her sleeve next!
Ok obviously I am in the minority, which I don’t get. I have never disliked a book by this author until this one. I have read most of her series, so I know she can end a series well. So what happened here?! I felt like she was just over the series and didn’t care. I read 10 books that were all leading to some epic battle against the elves and it just fell SO flat. Wow this was seriously such a letdown. I felt like Reagan lost her spunk in this book. I loathed the angel scene during the battle. It was so cringe and annoying. The way the author tied up certain loose ends, such as the old vamp bf, detracted from the story. I felt like the author just got in over her head with all the different POVs and didn’t know how to execute them properly. (This was a big issue with the two previous books, as well, but I still loved those!!) The only thing I really enjoyed was the merman scene. That was funny. Overall, though, I am so disappointed by this book.
