Michael C. Bailey is a professional writer from Falmouth, Massachusetts who kind of hates writing bios.

Michael has been a working writer since 1998 when he simultaneously (and at the same time) sold his first freelance article to Renaissance Magazine and landed a job as a staff reporter for the Enterprise Newspapers. Michael recently ended his time at the Enterprise to focus on his creative writing.

Over the years Michael has contributed several more articles to Renaissance Magazine and other local publications, and has since 2004 been a staff writer for two New England-based renaissance faire production companies: Pastimes Entertainment and the Connecticut Renaissance Faire.

In September 2013, Michael's debut novel "Action Figures" became available on Amazon.com.

Cannot BELIEVE we are nine books in!

Like all the best series, by the time you've dived this deep into whatever world the author has created, you tend to think of the characters as more than just fictitious beings, as constructs acting out whatever scene they are playing. You feel connected to them in ways that are just as strong as if they were flesh-and-blood people.

I feel that way about the amazing cast of characters MIchael Bailey has amassed over nine outstanding books. None more so than Carrie Hauser, who is still picking up the pieces after returning home following a brutal eight-month stint in outer space. Having to deal with normal teenage problems might seem paltry after taking part in a galactic war, but it can be just as dramatic. Carrie finds herself estranged from her father, resuming her education a full year behind all her besties, and in the unenviable position of having to speak for the Vanguard when the U.S. government puts her under a microscope.

And then there's the matter of Dr. Astrid Enigma, the Protectorate's resident sorceress, who appears to have gone rogue and whose behavior is becoming more and more erratic. She's isolated herself from her friends and teammates, engaged in reckless behavior resulting in casualties, and may have a hidden agenda with dire consequences.

What I love about Bailey's writing is that he tackles the spectacular and the mundane with equal aplomb. There's just the right amount of realism, snark humor, character development, and plot twists to keep the ongoing stories fresh and fast-paced, and had me turning pages until the very end.

I do not say this lightly - this is one of the best series you could read. It's right up there among my all-time favorite series, like Lord of the Rings and Hitchhiker's Guide. It's THAT good.

I am displeased

Yeah, but not in the series of books that I just read, I’m displeased because there isn’t a book 10 through 20 of more amazing stories. I’m displeased because there are obviously more tales to be told about these offbeat, wonderful characters and i’m not getting them.

I want to know about “The Organization”, I want to meet an alien ambassador, I want to see this unique and unusual team known as The Hero Squad grow into their power and maturity.

I want more......

Weak but not bad

I love the series. I was so excited to see that book night and finally come out, in the writing is still as good as ever, except the ending to this one felt, well, found in. It was too simple resolution, too easy. It honestly felt like the resolution was the beginning of a twist and that the true ending to the book would be another couple chapters along. But instead it just petered out.

I’m still hoping that he writes an issue 10. I really love this world, and these characters. They are flawed, relatable, and just people with extraordinary powers. It’s a great series, this is just the weakest book.

2nd reading: After the disappointing sixth issue, I skipped the seventh and went straight to the eighth. I read that book in one sitting then I took a break (i.e. read other books) before starting this one. I read the two parts separately. That slower reading brought out more feeling in me since I had more time to digest the themes and the plot. So I've added one star to the rating I gave the book on my first reading.
