Amanda Vinyl is so right!!- you don't have take on huge projects. When start with what's in the books, you will be inspired. Everything you need to know is provided. Cricut Explore Air 2 is an awesome machine. Design Space is free and as a beginner that's sufficient. There are home ideas, jewelry and personalized items that could easily be used as gifts.
There are so many material's that you can use. I started out with holiday bundles from Walmart.
I love making stationary and wall hangings. If you're ready to start precision crafting this is a good place to start. My niece wants a leather cuff bracelet,- that's next on my list.

Good for beginners
There are so many books out there about Cricut, but for someone starting out, this is a helpful book. It takes the reader from understanding what the craft actually is, to being able to make your own designs for either a hobby, or maybe even to star a business.
