Will a stand-up sheriff toss the rule book in order to deliver justice?
Between hunting human traffickers and solving her father’s murder, Sheriff Cassie Reed’s hands are full. So, despite her attraction to Tyler Bishop, finding his runaway missing niece isn’t a priority. Besides, the charming PI’s penchant for bending rules exasperates the by-the-book cop. But when a leak in her department brings Cassie under suspicion, joining forces with the tantalizing rebel is her only option.
Award-winning suspense author Leslie Marshman is (finally) putting her psychology degree to good use, getting inside the heads of her characters and figuring out what makes them tick. She writes novels that feature kick-ass heroines, the heroes who love them, and the bad guys who fear them.
Leslie called Denver home until she married a Texan without reading the fine print. Now she lives halfway between Houston and Galveston and has learned to embrace the humidity. Her household includes two miniature poodles named Harley and Davidson, and a three-legged box turtle named Stumpy.
If she’s not at her computer making things up, you’ll probably find her camping at a lake, a fishing pole in one hand and a book in the other.
Leslie Marshman gives us another strong heroine with Sheriff Cassie Reed but with a twist. Cassie is a no cussin, by the book kinda woman. Doesn't make her any less tough though. She was appointed Sheriff after her father was murdered and most of her deputies are her brothers. They have been trying to not only bring down a human trafficking ring but to also find out who murdered their father who had been working the trafficking case when he was shot.
Our hero is the complete opposite of Cassie. He's currently a PI who left the Houston police department with anger issues. He doesn't believe in following the rules to get the job done and meditates and eats clean. Quite a conundrum but he is still plenty alpha. He ends up in Cassie's town in search of his missing niece and the two bumps heads on their way of investigating.
Was a very enjoyable read. Plenty of suspense and great cast of characters. Would love to one day get all of Cassie's brother's stories.
I've been a fan of Leslie Marshman's for several years, so when I heard she had a Harlequin Intrigue coming out I immediately reached out to get an early copy. I'm so glad I did! Resolute Justice was a well-written, character-driven Intrigue about the small town of Resolute dealing with a big problem-human trafficking.
Sheriff Cassie Reed is driven by missing girls, a ghost, and grit. She's proving herself as sheriff after her father, the other Sheriff Reed, was killed in the line of duty. Cassie has two goals: find the ring of human traffickers in her county and find the man who murdered her father. Her brothers were on her team and she trusted them all, but there was a leak inside the Boone County Sheriff's Department and she suspected when she found the leak, she'd find the answer to her other two goals. What she didn't need was a PI with a chip on his shoulder to join in the fun.
Tyler Bishop, or just Bishop as he preferred to be called, had come to Resolute to find his niece. At eighteen, she had the right to leave, but Bishop knew there was more to the story. The first chapter would be told by her boyfriend who lived in Resolute. Hope dimmed for Bishop when he learned his niece wasn't there, but that same flame of hope flared to life with every encounter he had with the sexy sheriff running the town. Bishop was a man with issues who had seen too much and dealt with the anger those experiences caused by healthy eating, healthy living, and not getting too close to anyone.
When the Texas Rangers come calling, Cassie realizes that things are worse than she knew. When they asked for her gun and badge, she reacts the only way she can. She joins forces with the man she is falling in love with to find his niece and her father's killer.
Cassie was a very straight arrow. She insisted that following the rules was the only right way to solve a case. Thank God Bishop showed up to teach her otherwise. Sometimes, breaking rules are the only way to get things done, which Bishop learned the hard way. Their relationship was built on being the good guys, and it grew as they taught each other that sometimes you step out of line for the ones you love. Resolute Justice was a pure delight from the first page to the last. The characters had deep, passionate reasons for living life the way they did, and they took the time to understand what those reasons were, offering respect even if they didn't always agree. If you love a small-town sheriff romance with high stakes and heart-pounding action all the way to the end, then you don't want to miss Resolute Justice. As a huge Leslie Marshman and Intrigue fan, I can only hope we will see more from the deputies of Boone County in the future!
The more I read Leslie Marshman’s writing the more I like it. Resolute Justice is her third romantic suspense novel and, I think, her best. Central to the story are Cassie Reed, acting Boone County Sheriff and private investigator Tyler Bishop, a former Houston Police Department detective. Cassie’s working on finding and stopping a people smuggling ring as well as investigating her father’s murder while Tyler is in the town of Resolute in search of his eighteen year-old niece, who’s disappeared. Cassie believes in doing her job by the book and has, according Marge from the diner, “a stick so far up her butt it must tickle her tonsils.” Tyler is “easy on the eyes ... he could probably charm the dew off the honeysuckle.” He’s laid back, practices mindfulness and has an “end justifies the means” approach to his work. The secondary plot in this story is serious—murder, kidnapping and drugs all make an appearance—but it is lightened with humour. Cassie’s refusal to swear, instead using words like “dodgummit”, is a case in point. I was drawn into this story from the first page and before long I was thoroughly invested in Cassie’s and Bishop’s story. While I had ideas about the way the plot would resolve I was surprised when all was revealed. This has been an enjoyable whodunnit and I look forward to more from this author.
An exciting, on the edge of your seat, romantic suspense.
Boone County Sheriff, Cassie Reed is investigating a group of human trackers that killed her father. Private detective, Tyler Bishop, is trying to find his missing niece. When Cassie and Bishop learn they could be looking for the same people, they team up to solve the cases together. Even though they have different ways of getting the job done, they work well together. They even carve out a little time for romance.
I couldn’t put this book down. I just couldn’t find a good place to stop reading. There was so much intrigue and action. The author’s words made the story feel so real, like I was right there helping solve the crime. I hope more books will follow this one as I really want to learn more about the rest of Cassie’s family and I already miss the citizens of Resolute, especially Marge. She was a fun addition to the story.
Fantastic read-- deliciously suspenseful with a strong female lead.
I've read Leslie Marshman's other books-- Goode Over Evil and The Goode Fight and loved them. This new series does not disappoint.
I love how its a large family of siblings, lead by the older sister, Cassie-- the heroine. A turn on the usual sibling brood hierarchy. And it is done with out a lot of fanfare that the lead character is a woman in charge of her adult younger brothers and the Sheriff to their deputy positions. Like, you're not hit over the head with "she is a woman in a man's job" kind of thing. Cassie just IS and she rocks it. Makes it so much more badass. And the hero has absolutely no problem with it either. Sometimes I like a bit of alpha-hole hero, but I HATE when they are "holing" about the heroine being in charge. Nothing makes me stop reading more. And Bishop, the hero, he is like the anti alpha-hole. But not beta either. Marshman doesn't just walk the fine line of strength and understanding with Bishop-- she struts it. Bishop is his own man, a fully fleshed out character with feelings, hurts and desires-- but, like, hotly so. I don't think I've ever considered a man who drinks kale smoothies and knows what a chakra is attractive until I read about Bishop. haha
Bottom line-- GREAT book. Marshman is in the top tier of romantic suspense and never disappoints. Can't wait for Noah's book.
AN EXCELLENT ROMANCE, with a strong female protagonist!
Small town, by the book, Boone County Sherriff Cassie Reed was appointed Sherriff after her predecessor/father was murdered in the line of duty. Cassie is determined to bring her father’s murderer to justice, but another botched raid has made it obvious that there is a leak within her department.
Tyler Bishop is a meditating, clean eating, hunk of masculinity who left the Houston Police Department after ‘rules’ caused the death of his CI. Now a Private Investigator, Bishop no longer allows rules to get in the way. Especially when his niece goes missing! Bishop will do whatever it takes to find his niece before it is too late.
Cassie’s investigation and Bishop’s hunt for his niece collide when Bishop follows leads that take him to Boone County and the Human Trafficking Ring that he fears has kidnapped his niece. Cassie has been investigating this same Human Trafficking Ring, convinced these people are responsible for murdering her father.
Cassie is indignant when Bishop asks her to cut through the red tape to help him find his niece. Things get further complicated when the Texas Rangers show up and order Cassie off the investigation of the Human Traffickers, because they have evidence that points to a leak in her department and she and her deputy brothers are their chief suspects.
Can a by-the book Sherriff who loves a thick, rare steak and spending time with her boisterous family, and a do-whatever-it-takes PI find a way to work together to achieve their common goal. Don’t miss this fast-paced romance!
Every time I hear that Leslie Marshman has a new release coming, I rush out to get it! Leslie's ability to craft strong heroines and wounded heroes are just one of the reasons why I love her books. It was no different with RESOLUTE JUSTICE.
RESOLUTE JUSTICE follows small town Sheriff Cassie Reed, who takes on the role of sheriff after her father, the previous sheriff, was murdered. Bishop is a delightfully emotionally-wounded PI from the big city of Houston, who challenges Cassie's by-the-book uptightness with his laidback style. It was so fun to watch Cassie and Bishop butt heads as tensions and the personal stakes in the case they're working on rise.
I highly recommend this latest in Leslie's growing list of fabulous, page-turning police procedurals with a romantic twist.
Excellent romantic suspense by my friend Leslie Marshman. I'm excited to be able to read her books. The heroine is the sheriff of a rural county between Houston and Austin that is having a problem with human trafficking using the area as a waystation for moving the women. The hero is a private detective whose niece has gone missing, and he's tracked her to the heroine's county, where his niece's boyfriend is from. Leslie has woven in a lot of family angst (on both sides), current issues, police corruption and even eccentric country personalities. The book even made me cackle with laughter a time or two. And the fast pace kept everything moving right along. I loved it. Great read.
What could possibly go wrong when you put together a rule following sheriff and cop turned PI who's basically willing to do whatever it takes to get his niece back? It's inevitable that they will butt heads, but the chemistry between them adds a layer of complexity to the situation. The question is whether they can find a way to work together while still remaining true to themselves.
Even though this story takes place in a smalltown setting, the characters are dealing with big-time issue of human trafficking. There's also a layer of betrayal, many memorable secondary characters, and great humor.
Another great read from Leslie. This is a great story from beginning to end. I hope there are more in store for this set of characters. Action, romance and humor along with some country wit. Loved this book. Can hardly wait for your next book. Thank You for sharing your talent.
She writes such a flawless and smooth book you can’t put it down. From beginning to end you are glued to your seat. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
This was fast paced with a bit of everything…mystery, suspense and romance. I highly recommend you pick up anything Leslie writes!
Loved it. By the Book, Sheriff Cassie Reed is trying to track down traffickers. Now PI Tyler Bishop shows up trying to find his missing niece. Can Cassie fight her attraction to him and maintain her by the book attitude? I loved the way these two acted towards each other. Tyler with his anger issues at times and Cassie never cussing. It was very entertaining. A wonderful, action packed suspense.
I just finished reading Resolute Justice and really enjoyed this thriller! I made the mistake of reading the second book in the series, Resolute Aim, first but that had no effect on my enjoyment of this story. Sherriff Cassie Reed has stepped into her late father's shoes as sherriff of Boone County, TX. She feels that her father's murder ties into some human traffickers that have been working out of her county but so far they are always one step ahead of her. Tyler Bishop has left the police force in Houston to find some balance in his life and has been working as a private investigator. When his older brother calls him to inform him that his 18 year old niece has gone missing, Bishop doesn't hesitate to search for her. That search leads him to Resolute and Sherriff Cassie Reed. To say that Cassie and Bishop are oil and water is no understatement but they do have a lot in common and truth and justice are at the top of their lists. While working together to find the traffickers and Bishop's niece they begin to realize that they can be something more than colleagues. I can't express enough how much I like this series. I was glued to the pages until the final surprising end. Resolute Justice was told from dual POV and was emotional, funny, twisty and just a bit of heat. Looking forward to more stories set in Resolute.
This book was like watching a play divided into at least two parts, possibly three.
The first part was darn near boring as dirt. While that first part intro'd the protagonists, it also dragged with the story that needed some punch.
Don't get me wrong, it got punch in the last third of the book, possibly the last half, but until then, I was starting to wonder why I was reading it.
I'm clearing out my TBR list, and this was next up. The story was good, but took a long while before it started to move smoothly. The peripheral characters in the book were scattered throughout the book, and honestly only some of them were described well. And so much time was spent on the Rangers, that I truly thought they had to be in on it, as they weren't the protagonists and their presence didn't make a lot of sense.
3-1/2 Stars, And Harlequin needs a new editor or two. This is the second time one of their Harlequin Intrigue's had mistakes. You don't look up to see a crawl space entry, but you do to see an attic entry. That's just one of many in the last three Intrigues I've read. A professional company needs to edit well for their authors.
Team MEAT AND BEER! Small town with big problems…The book starts out with quite the punch. We get to see how Tyler’s tale weaves himself into the small town of Resolute. While Tyler starts the hunt for his missing niece, he and Sheriff Cassie bump heads. The Sheriff has a lot on her plate and Tyler comes walking into town wanting her to break the rules. Um, NOPE! Not our Sheriff Cassie. While she is stubborn and headstrong, she starts to struggle thinking with her head instead of her heart. There are quite a few bumps in the road when the Texas Rangers pop in and throw a stick in their operation. Cassie and Tyler, who are opposites in ever way possible, work together to find these missing girls and put the bad guys to bed. The story was very well written and while we all know that these two are going to end up together, it was fun watching these two grow on each other. Their banter back and forth made for some lightheartedness during some really crazy times in the book. I rooted for Cassie and Tyler the entire time and was not disappointed with the outcome. However, I am team MEAT AND BEER! Read it and you will know what I mean, LOL!
Meet Cassie Reed, a by-the-book, small-town sheriff facing the harsh reality of big city crime. A sheriff who was appointed, not elected. A sheriff working under the pall of her father’s murder. If that weren’t enough, an unidentified young woman turns up dead, and Cassie must contend with human trafficking and a possible leak in her department. Toss in a hunky but fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants private investigator with disaster potential written all over him, and author Leslie Marshman has included all the ingredients for an action-packed romance. Enjoy a giggle factor when these two law enforcement crusaders come together, one all starch and vinegar and the other lackadaisical. One tequila and steaks, the other smoothies and yoga. A fun and fresh read. Enjoy!
Cassie is a by the book sheriff and Bishop is a rogue PI. Can they work together to help save his niece? With everything going on in the little town of Resolute Texas it will be difficult. Though the family and small town atmosphere is amazing, there is a lot going on. I loved the character development and plot. I thought I knew what was going to happen and was wrong at every turn. The ending made me cry a bit, and I am ready for the next book. I am new to author Leslie Marchman, but will not remain a stranger. I received this book in a giveaway and am giving this review because I want everyone to know how great the book was and help show that the writing it top notch.
It only took one book to make me fall in love with this series. Bishop is a private investigator, but it gets personal when his niece turns up missing. .Following a lead he ends up in Resolute Texas and hopes to get the help from the local police department. Bishop isn’t used to following rules but Sheriff Cassie is by-the-book, so he rules out her. But when a case of human trafficking looks like the cases are connected, he has no choice. This book is so full of twists, turns and surprises and action packed from the first page!
Sheriff Cassie Reed is frustrated. Every time she thinks she has a lead on the filthy human traffickers in her county, something goes wrong. Its as if there’s a leak in her office, but she knows every one of her staff—in fact, she’s related to most of them. Her newest frustration, though, may just push her over the edge. He’s private investigator Tyler Bishop and he’s just inserted himself into her investigation. Yes, he has a reason: his niece is missing and she fits the profile of the traffickers’ victims. But by-the-book Cassie has no idea how to handle working with Tyler, who never met a book worth going by. She also doesn’t know how to handle the ridiculous, illogical attraction that’s growing between them. Vegetarian Salad, meet Smothered Chicken. Marshman’s characters are so real they jump, squirm, smolder, and punch right off the page. Guns drawn and emotions high, they’re out for justice—no matter who or what stands in their way. It’s a roller coaster ride and I loved it.
An uptight sheriff on the search for the man who killed her father pairs up with a woo woo PI looking for his missing niece and sparks fly. When their cases collide the real question is can they find a happy medium for their happily ever after?
When I saw that Ms. Marshman was publishing a book with Harlequin Intrigue, I was excited. I’ve read two of her other books and loved them, and I love Harlequin series books. I appreciate a story with a strong, female character in law enforcement. Cassie’s story was intriguing and kept me hooked from the beginning. Tyler was trying to deal with issues in his past while trying to save his niece. What an adventure it was to follow Cassie’s and Tyler’s relationship, both unique individuals, while they were trying to solve crimes involving family and find justice. Underpinning the story of these two is an obvious love of family. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Repost of my original review on Amazon.com.
