The Chinese have a foothold in America, they control part of the west coast and a handful of states in the North east. They are attempting to expand their control in America by promising to restore the grid, provide clean water and medical treatment. Many fall for the exchange, their souls for electricity.
The Chinese have targeted America's military labs and nuclear plants, one is the famous Y-12 facility in Oak Ridge that is being protected by Gray Ghost and his mixed bag of soldiers, veterans, militias, armed citizens all working together to stop the Chinese.
The Chinese use their special operators to perform tasks their normal military has failed to accomplish.
The Chinese decide to take a page from the Ghost's playbook, they send their best special operators to the national labs, and to find out who the commander of the Eastern Tennessee region is. Their spies recruit a local who tells the Chinese where they can find the Gray Ghost, the Chinese respond by flying their stealth fighters at treetop level to bomb the Ghost's headquarters with him and his key staff inside.
The Ghost is servery wounded, he's lost some of his key staff and the Chinese attempt to use their victory to make another push for the Y-12 facility.
The battle for America is heating up and the defender of the south east has been wounded.
The story follows mounts after the novel has more military and civilians breakaway from the USA and fight to preserve the country even has the highest lvs of Gov’t and business sell-out to the Chinese.
I like that you gave a voice to civilian chacther’s by show how there be influenced by the war from farmers becoming militant forest combatants to keep the large farm fields out of Chinese hands to the interment Mayor of L.A. try’s to obey the orders of the Chinese military approach to protesters. They’s are niece improvement from the first novel.
Do the overly lack of details on large scale Chinese advances during the war you more stuck to small arms combats and strategic targets where creat scenes to read but misses the point of large scale mission planning for later in the war.
So in the end you kind of evened out in neither bad nor great writing just an above average military thriller.
Just a quick review as I rush on to Book 3 in this, Behind Every Blade of Grass, series. It seems the author has really found his grove here in the 2nd part of the story. Gone is that more, “list of battle after battle,” type of prose. Here I was thrilled to find pure story flow. Full of tension & anticipation, very well fleshed out characters, engaging dialogue, intrigue, & new subplots I’m now totally invested in. And of course more than ample amounts of battles scenes, which are wickedly creative. Lots of weapons & weapon systems. But it all didn’t read so textbook-y sans flavor here in Book 2, as it tended to lean toward in Book 1. Happily surprised! I cannot wait to pick up where I left off; see what exciting surprises await in Book 3!….
Wow! The Master of the Cautionary Tale strikes again!
Ira Tabankin is the Master of the Cautionary Tale. Never take ANYTHING for granted! He proves the Murphy is alive, and will appear where, and when, he wants. America on the ropes, invaded by the Communist Chinese, in a brutal, terrible war of unending barbarism. Read how Patriots fight back, in this second book of America’s fight for existence and freedom…. Superb…
The more I read, the faster the action seemed to move. I seriously wanted to punch the air and shout "Yes!" every time the Americans put one over on the Chinese. Ok, the editing leaves a bit to be desired, but the pace everything flows made it easy to get passed the errors. On to Book 3.
It's good to be on the winner side again. It's been very long since I've been in a good mood! Watching FOX News has been depressing. I hope I live long enough to it turn around. I am75. Not much hope..
The story is good. However, there are some grammar mistakes that for whatever reason jumped put at me. Using then instead of than. It's still an okay read.
I know this scenario is fictional but the book disturbs me because it is all too possible. The writing is good and enjoyable and the characters interesting. I need a short break from the Chinese.
Hey the admiral was right. I always enjoy his books specifically when the premise is so current. You know it's not paranoia if they really are out to get you.
Can't wait for the next book, love this political insensitive series. I just hope this never happens. If you want a story that kept me involved too the end.
Could stand more proof reading for spelling errors but the premise was great! Will be reading the next 2 shortly. Very entertaining please keep up the good work.
What a prophetic read considering it was written in 2021 Ira has a very good knowledge of the American system of politics and the political class that will do anything to hang onto power and privilege
