When the right thing goes wrong, someone has to answer.
Dismantling the Blood Trade wasn’t the end, but the beginning. Everything the Magistrates do has been called into question.
Do they have probable cause? Are they respecting a suspect’s right against self-incrimination? The ambassadors have questions, and they think they know the answers, but only the Magistrates know the truth.
Called before the Federation Council, the collective body for discussing matters that affect all member planets, Magistrate Rivka Anoa is put under the spotlight to answer for all she had done. Upholding the law wasn’t enough.
Or was it? The Ambassadors will vote.
While the High Chancellor and the Magistrates are distracted, something else is happening, something sinister that needs The Interview to drag out.
Who knew what when? Maybe that doesn’t matter. The better question is “Who is doing what right now?”
Joseph and Petricia return to resolve issues that had languished for centuries. Will they find peace?
Magistrate Rivka Anoa is the legal eagle you want on your side. No better friend. No worse enemy.

I see my other lives, a career in the Marines, those damn hand-written tests in law school, a business consultant, as if they're stories from a book. I see my books as if I lived there, as if I were friends with the characters. All things we remember are behind us, only those we imagine lie before.
I'm not sure which place I prefer, but I don't have to choose. They live together in my mind. My books have some award nominations, they have bestseller tags across multiple countries. I write about justice, honor, and loyalty because that's what I care about. My stories are mostly set within worlds that haven't been, but could be. We have to be ready for when those times come.
No matter where I went, I always had a book with me. Thanks to 21st Century technology, I now have hundreds of books loaded on my phone and always with me. This breakthrough allows me to binge read my favorites. How many books would I have read on deployments had I not had to have a physical book with me? I paced myself so I wouldn't finish too quickly.
We aren't encumbered like that now. I love the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. I have been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, I aspire to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared me to.
Through a bizarre series of events, I ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. I never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. My wife and I get to watch the northern lights from our driveway. Our dog has lots of room to run. And temperatures reach fifty below zero. We have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.
It's all part of the give and take of life. If we didn't have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.
I have read all volumes in this series. I enjoyed them all including this most recent offering, The Interview. It was inertia based on my experience with the previous stories that got me through the first third of The Interview. If I had picked up this story without confidence in Craig Martelle I would have dropped it like a hot rock. Gathering my perseverance I made it into the second third where things begin to pick up. Having said that they did not go the way I expected. Thank you Mr. Martelle for that. It was in the final third where we got into the running, shooting, cursing, and blood which characterize this series. Overall I liked the result and feel the story had more depth than some of the earlier works.
Have to say this is also one of my favorite series! Those who were not only involved in the Blood Trade (see previous book) but also are part of the governing body of the Federation are out to get rid of the magistrates so there less than legal activities can flourish. Their primary focus is to discredit Rivka mostly. This was one of the best in the series, the continues development of the characters in addition to their more active roles as members of the crew was just one of my favorite parts of what made this book so awesome! The only part that disappointed was the now that I will most likely have to wait until next year for the next book to be published. Although I greatly appreciate the author's putting this one next in his schedule. Thank you Craig! ❤ I understand you have commitments outside this one series and appreciate the books you write! At this time, the stories of TH Walton and Rivka will always my favorites. Give Stanley a hug, scratch, and a good belly rub for me 🐶🤗😊. Have loved following his journey through your emails and authors notes. As a service dog, hope you are able to take with you as you cross the country! Couldn't imaging going anywhere without my Gracie, she even joins me, while sitting in my lap while authors like you and Anderle take me in journeys to other worlds and times!
The Magistrates team of Rivka Anoa and four others, travel far and wide to uphold justice throughout the known Empire. Some of the Federation's Ambassadors are corrupt, so bring accusations against Rivka, to cover themselves.
She and the other Magistrates undergo the eponymous 'interview', to present evidence in their own defence as to why their team shouldn't be disbanded. While Rivka justifies her use of telepathy, to gain additional evidence for the attack she's being accused of, she gets back-up from the ruling Singularity, (that covers all united Federation planets), as it puts the miscreant hypocrites in their places. What's the outcome of the 'interview'?
Who orders an enemy attack on the Foromme city?
Can the Magistrates stop it? Who's nearly killed?
A heart-pounding, adrenaline-pumping, rip-roaring space opera, with deceitful ambassadors, brave heroes, a half-faerie child born in the aftermath of a battle with pirates and much more, keeps the non-stop action and thrills going right to the very last page of Craig Martelle's The Interview - a title that gives nothing away about the danger and excitement within. Get your copy today and buckle up for a wild rollercoaster ride to guaranteed enjoyment, as you delve into its mission - to entertain you 110% - mission achieved!
This has to be one of the best series in the Kurtherian Universe - after all the Bethany Anne books, of course!
With Rivka & her fellow Magistrates put on the hot seat, it was up to her team to find out all the details that might help to save the Federation &, by doing that, save Rivka from those who wish her harm.
This was yet another action-packed story, full of adventure, lots of running, and a huge amount of spilled blood, but it was also full of gentle discoveries, amazing team work, and the birth of yet another member of the Singularity.
This book had enough of everything that makes me go back for more - and then some - and I loved every minute of the action and suspense that drives these stories.
I'm very happy that I'll be continuing to read this series, as the next book on my reading list, is book 14: Jack the Ripper.
One of the reasons I enjoy this series so much is that victory isn't always a result of overwhelming force and Godlike powers. The magistrates attack the problems of corruption and greed with multifaceted approaches to the problem. All the avenues for reconciliation are on the table. Yes, the Wyatt Earps little band of misfits can rumble with the best of them, but it isn't all they do. Another aspect to these stories that I enjoy is the addition of the Sentient Intelligences and the evolving legal framework that allows them to work and exist as citizens rather than slaves. The hopeful imagination of a world where sentient machines and flesh dwellers can coexist and co create a functional society makes me happy. This outing of Rivkah and her team is a wonderful read. You will not be disappointed.
Craig Martello continues to blow me out of the water. Every time I think he can’t possibly top the most recent book, he proves me wrong. This series has definitely surpassed the main Kurtherian Gambit series as my favorite in the KGU. There’s no such thing as an ancillary character in these books. If Craig has written the character into Rivka’s crew, it’s for a reason, and this book definitely proves that. I absolutely love the way he co rubies to flesh out each and every one of them. I can’t imagine any of them not being there. The inky way I would ever stop reading these books is if he were to kill off the main character. And even then, I would probably just need a cooling-off period. And maybe a few days to stop swearing at him. Lol
This is a great series where you can be entertained as well as learn something about the law.
There’s nothing I didn’t like about this book let me get that out of the way. This is an excellent series my second favorite besides the main KGU series. I’m glad that Patricia and Joseph or in the story, we don’t see a lot of secondary characters and wonder what happened to them. In my opinion we need mor books in this universe. LMBPN is becoming too Magic centric for my taste. How many witches, dragons, dwarves, do we need. This book is like a breath of fresh air. If you haven’t started the series shame on you, start from book one just think you won’t have to wait for the next one, binge baby binge it is well worth your time and money.
Is an interview important? Well, in this case it could end the magistrate corps. Unless Rivka can convince the group of ambassadors and others of the value of the corps, they whole thing will end.
It doesn't help that several of the ambassadors are absolute crooks and will do anything they can including major lies just to get what they want.
She and her group go to the planet of the fairies to relax. Most do. Just don't get the fairies mad at you.
Then one of the women has a baby. It's not exactly what was expected, though. First question, though, is just who will deliver it?
Things from earlier books in the series play an important part in this one. It is once again a really, really good book.
What do you write for a review when you get so far along a series, and you find yourself still enthralled? Still wanting more? Still handing out well-bloody deserved five stars?
I’m being greedy aren’t I?
Look, the series is awesome, the tales don’t stop (thank you Craig & Michael), and I have more important things to do than talk you into reading this series. Just do it already. Suggest you start with book one like I did.
I was overjoyed to see book 13 was available. After reading the first 12 books I was wondering what I was going to read to keep my jouces flowing. I was overjoyed to find book 13 finished and waiting. I was not disappointed As the characters I enjoyed came to life once again.. Page by page flew by as I couldn't lay it down action packed with some good homey feeling . can't wait for more loo
I never thought that I would enjoy stories about a space lawyer quite this much, but Rivka and her crew get me every time. I love these books. Rivka is everything lawyers SHOULD be, and her crew keeps her safe while she rids the universe of criminals, one at a time. I look forward to what happens next.
This was a great book in a great series. All the books flow logically bone from the other. Rival is one amazing character, but all her crew are fantastic too. Lots of twists and turns in this one. The Magistrate s have to justify their existence, and... Well, you'll have to read it. Great read.
I have enjoyed this whole series but this is the best book so far. This one is more about brain than brawn. We get to see into the characters more than usual and their feelings for each other. This isn't just a crew, it's a family. Outstanding story reminding us where they've been and tying up loose ends. 👍👍
Nature abhors a vacuum, and Rivka has the same problem with political assholes. Temporarily the politicians, led by the ambassador whose wife ran the blood selling ring have called Rivka and the other magistrates before the federation council body sitting as a court to judge whether the magistrates are abusing their authority. A great read.
This was such an awesome, awesome story. So well put to gather and so much happening all at once. This one was hard to put down once started. People trying to bypass the law will go to extremes to get there way even sacrifice any thing and anybody to get their way. But good will hopefully prevail in the end. But it could be painful.
I'm sure that I am not the only person physically exhausted after reading this fine installment; the ups & down were masterfully done. I enjoyed Joseph & Petricia visiting with the crew of Wyatt Earp as well as their trip to see Wyatt.
This book was written by a Master in the Craft of Storytelling. If you haven't read his works, now is the time to start.
I love this series :D I can't wait for the next one! I'm not sure why but my kindle took me to the marked as read and review page! I had to go back so I could read the Author Notes (which I always read btw) so Congrats on Stanley Craig :) and here's my shout out for y'all to continue with Rivka and her growing family :D Peace
When the ambassadors are now the criminals and after you in the court of law in a total reversal I wondered how it would bring the same level of angst and action to these stories. But Martelle does it again with a great closure and a nice surprise don't know why I ever worried.
I love, love, love the Kurtherian Universe! Happy to have a new JJE book to add to my library. Fast-paced, full of action and wit, as usual. Wanted to punch some politicians and held my breath towards the end!! She picked up the legs as an afterthought??!! Hilarious and also...phew! Will there be more? I hope so xx
Another awesome installment in my favorite series. More of the things we love- excellent dialogue, tightly written story, action adventure and character growth. Pick it up - You won't be disappointed. Each installment just keeps getting better as your favorite crew continues to grow and add to their little family.
You definitely don’t want to miss reading this book!
Oh My Goodness, this book was so hard to put down, it has it all!!!! Loads of action, many laugh out loud moments, back door deals, subterfuge, price on Rivka’s head, babies being born and more. Lots to keep any sane and insane reader entertained. Bring on book 14
I really enjoyed this book! I love Rivka and the entire crew and it was fun to see some of the characters from other series join in. I also love that there are animals on the ship. Also, nice addition of magic to the story.
I really appreciate the author’s notes at the end of the book. The dog story was so interesting!!
No spoilers except....BE READY!!! Nothing but action from first word to the last!!! Monstrous fun!!!! fun!!! Fun!!!! Hard to breathe kinda stuff going on! Howard S (the S stands for Super Fan)
Another delightful book about Rivka and team. Perhaps my favorite so far. The action was tight. The comedy kept me laughing (in between the suspenseful moments), and the prose was tight, as per usual for this series.
This is a very interesting discussion of what justice entails and how societies deal with the concept. The dialog flows smoothly, and Rivka and her team wins again although there were times when I wasn't sure that was going to happen.
This very enjoyable series follows the exploits of the Magistrate and her cohorts as they battle to right the various wrongs in the Federation. Great characters, a fun storyline, humour and more. Not one to miss.
I love this series. It has everything from action to courtroom drama. Rivka and her team are are willing to put their lives on the line for justice and at the same time make sure to enjoy life with humor, fun and family. I hope this series continues for a long time.
I little slow at the start but it got great after the first few chapters. This is one of his best series. I do hope he continues with Judge, jury and executioner series. This was so good and I would recommend it to anyone.
