1992. In the underground archives of the KGB, agent Alexei Soloviev discovers by chance a secret will of Adolf Hitler seized in his bunker by the Red Army after his suicide. Thirty years later, unusual disturbances in Islamist circles connected with neo-Nazi organizations lead the young Intelligence Services analyst, Melanie Carson, to infiltrate a group of white supremacists in Pennsylvania. A discovery as terrifying as it is unexpected will lead her into a dangerous adventure with her new companion, Jeff Cartright.
NAZIS FASCINATED BY SECRET SOCIETIES AND OCCULTISM Would the Nazi expeditions to Tibet in the 1930's have enabled Himmler to find the original text of the Karma of Kalachakra, an esoteric work attributed to the Buddha himself, which allows the followers of Dalai Lama's to find the reincarnation of their leader? Could neo-Nazis, whose rallying sign is the number "88" – an 8 for each "H" in "Heil Hitler" – have succeeded in taking control of several terrorist organizations, with the common objective of upsetting the world order and perhaps resurrecting the Third Reich?
A BREATHLESS HUNT AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF CURRENT EVENTS AND HISTORICAL FACTS While Melanie and Jeffrey try to find Alexei Soloviev, the only person to know Hitler's last wishes, a new "Islamist Spring" shakes Indonesia and its more than two hundred million inhabitants. But who is Habib Saragih, the mysterious leader of the revolutionary movement whose financial resources seem unlimited?
From Washington to Pennsylvania, from Boston to Moscow, from Eastern Germany to Banda Aceh and the suffocating jungles of Sumatra, The Third Testament takes the reader on a breathtaking adventure where reality often surpasses fiction.
Born in Algeria, when it was still a French department, I was exiled to France with the rest of my family after its independence. After studying law, I devoted myself to journalism, mainly in the field of cinema, which was and remains one of my passions. During my conscript time, I was hired by a French publishing house to write the memoirs of actress Romy Schneider, and went on to write an essay on cinema, which led me to organise several festivals on this theme before becoming a film distributor and then a producer.
In 1983, I moved to Hollywood, where I participated in the production of an action film directed by Simon Nuchtern: "Savage Dawn". Back to France, I became a full-time ghost writer. Between 1986 and 1991, I collaborated in the writing of more than twenty novels and essays.
I returned to journalism in 1992 and in 18 years I made nearly 20 documentaries in conflict zones, mainly in the Middle East, while publishing articles in many newspapers, including Le Figaro and the Jerusalem Post. This exciting experience allowed me to get back to writing novels. "Beyond Red Lines", my first book published in English, reflects my knowledge of terrorist and secret service circles. I now divide my life between New York, Paris and Tel Aviv, which has become my main residence.
26 August 2021: Note to readers: Unfortunately I was sent the wrong file to my kindle hence my comment about serious editing being needed. Hopefully the error has been corrected.
First and foremost this book needs serious editing. There are sections that are not in the right order and it makes following the story difficult. Despite that, this book is well written, massively researched or the author has the most amazing creativity I have seen in a long time. The story in brief: a young woman, Melany Carson infiltrates a neo-NaZi group in a small town in the States. Her mission is to find out who the Father of Victory is, a name that was given to Hitler when alive. She barely comes out of this mission alive but learns a few key pieces of information about this Father of Victory, all related to the Third Reich and a potential recurring of the order. Her boyfriend works for the same agency and so they decide to do some more digging, which takes them to Moscow, Kahla (Germany) and Banda Aceh, Indonesia. They risk their lives at every turn but somehow manage to survive the adventure. Just. This book is certainly filled with lots of twists and turns. Believable? Maybe not. But it makes me want to check all the facts that are thrown our way nearly on every page. Did I like it? Well there were times when I thought there were too many details that were not necessarily needed. The author could have condensed the story a bit. The end is cute but not believable either. I think i had a hard time to connect with the story. A bit too unbelievable for me. But I liked the history details. It is a well written book. If you like conspiracies, some history about the hidden facets of the Reich, some political intrigue, this is for you.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange of a fair review. #The third testament #NetGalley
The story in this book could be reality. In 1992 Alexie Soloviev is hunting through the KGB's secret documents and finds Hitler's will. Neo Nazi groups, thirty some years later, are acting upon the information in the Will. An intelligence agent with the government, Melanie, infiltrates a White Supremist group to find out the particulars of this plan. In order to thwart the recreation of the Third Reich she and her accomplice, Jeff, must find Alexie and destroy the plan. Well written and totally believeable. I was provided this copy by NetGalley in return for honest, unpaid review.
The Third Testament is composed of two stories that take place in two different places and two different timelines which converge towards the end of the book in an explosion of action that leads to the ending of the story with a twist that will leave the reader thinking about the surprising alternative with which the author leaves us. Although it took me a while to find a liking for the book, as the story progresses it becomes more and more interesting.
I admit I found this book very difficult to get into. It didn't really draw me in as I expected it to and in the end I conceded defeat after a few chapters.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are my own and not influenced by anyone. Ever.
Rehov has written an action packed suspenseful book. I enjoyed the many geographic locations described in the book. The plot had twists and turns until the final page.
