Urgent Care is the third medical novel by CJ Lyons. I really like this series. The characters are real and so are the patients, they treat. If you are a fan of television dramas like ER, Grey’s Anatomy, House, and Scrubs than you need to check out this series. This series centers on four women…Dr. Lydia Fiore, Charge Nurse, Nora Halloran and Medical Student, Amanda Mason and Resident, Gina Freeman. It has been great, experiencing how these ladies have progressed from the first book, Lifelines. One thing that bummed me a little was that the sparkle from the two prior books didn’t seem like it was all here in the latest. On the other hand I did like that the story line took on a more serious issue. This was Nora’s moment. It was nice to see her walls come down and she begin to open up. CJ Lyons is exactly what the doctor ordered! I can’t wait to read the next novel.
Fast paced like her previous two books. The detailed knowledge of the medical field is fantastic. So often authors fake certain things but you can always tell when the author knows the subject matter,
The are very much human with flaws. The interaction between the characters is fantastic too.
A very touchy subject is dealt with tactfully in this book. Rape victims often hesitate to report their rape and often do not get the help that they need afterwards to heal. This book also shows that rape touches everyone the rape victim is involved with including her partner.
I really have to say that I did not see the plot twist at the end of the book. That was totally unexpected.
Incredible story telling. So many twists in the lives of the close knit circle of women (Lydia, Nora, Gina & Amanda)! You will be on the edge of your seat thinking one thing when the complete opposite occurs. You won't be disappointed!!
The third book in the series was every bit as compelling as the previous two. Though this book focuses on Nora, it is an ensemble story. One of the nurses is found bound, raped and murdered in the cemetery, a few yards from the hospital. It happened to the nurse that broke up Nora's relationship with Seth Corcoran. Nora finds her and it immediately brings her back to her own kidnapping and rape a few years earlier and it becomes pretty clear to Nora, that Karen is a victim of the same man. This is the central theme of the book - trust. For each of the women, for different reasons, trust is a big issue and there are some big revelations in this one. I am looking forward to book four. The story is practically impossible to put down.
As always this book was fantastic. I've always loved books based in hospitals. When I was little one of my grandmother's friends would bring doctor and nurse books by the box. Devoured every single one. Keep up the good work, C. J.
This book keeps you on edge and interested trying to figure out who is stalking Nora, will Amanda survive? Just two of the many personal stories involved in this thrilling mystery!
Love reading C.J. Lyons books. The Angels Of Mercy Medical suspense series is great, I am binge reading the series, Trauma is edge of your seat reading. Excitement on every page. Going on to #4 Isolation
This is the third in the series that follows a group of four women who work at the Angels of Mercy medical center: Nora is an ER nurse, Gina is a ER resident, Linda is an ER attending doctor and Amanda a medical student. I haven't read the first books in the series because i think I downloaded this as a Kindle freebie, but I didn't feel lost at all. The author give you enough contextual information so you know what happened in the past to the characters without it feeling like a data dump.
This one concerns the rape and murder of another nurse in he hospital and the effect it has on rape survivor Nora. There is also a continuing story involving Gina and her fiance, a police detective named Gerry who is investigating the very mysterious past of Linda.
The story is very fast paced and suspenseful as the people are endangered both by the murder-rapist and the very dangerous people who do not want Linda's past being investigated.
I've read other reviews that compare reading this to wathcing an episode of ER or Grey's Anatomy. Those comparisons were right on. I really did feel that with the quick cuts, the intertwined stories of medical cases along with continuing personal/romantic arcs that I was 'reading' one of those shows. The danger/suspense element though adds a little something extra.
This book is not the end of the series by a long shot. The story ends -- not exactly on a cliffhanger -- but you know there is more to come. While some plot elements have been resolved (they did find the rapist/murderer) some are left hanging (Gina/Gerry's relationship, Linda's past etc.)
I liked this installment enough that I'll most likely 'stay tuned' to see what happens next.
This is the 3rd book in a series that reminds me a lot of the TV show 'Grey's Anatomy', though to be honest, I didn't think it was quite as good as the first two. While I find that Lyons does a good job at keeping the medical storylines at the forefront with the personal drama storylines, in this one, the drama story lines at times were tough to follow. That said, the main medical storyline of the critically ill young immigrant who may be deported before the doctors and nurses figure out what is wrong is an intriging one. Lyons made this one too complex on the personal drama side. There are 4 lead female characters in the book, and each is involved in a romantic relationship that sees ups and downs throughout the book. Having them similarly names (Lydia, Gina, Nora, and Amanda) doesn't make it easy to keep straight who is doing what with whom. I also found the ending to the plot about the sexual predator to be weird, sort of out of left field, and there weren't enough subtle clues leading up to it to explain why it was that way. Like the TV show, the medical subplots seem to reach a resolution quickly and unrealistically, but yet if everything was predictable, it would be boring. All told, I will be reading the next one when it comes out, because the author left enough questions unanswered and ends loose to keep readers coming back for more.
If you've followed the Angels of Mercy series before with Lifelines and Warning Signs, you'll enjoy the heart-stopping third installation. We follow the lives and loves of Gina, Amanda, Nora and Lydia, and their patients. And this time, things takes a heated turn, when a fellow nurse was found battered and left for dead. From there, everyone's a suspect who worked around the crime scene and leaking it to the press. Everyone deals with a dilemma of their own, while it's personal or professional, when they deal with their most complicated and complex cases in their careers. Later on, they find out, they've got two major problems who's making a target in the hospital, when looks could be deceiving. Urgent Care deals with the matters of the heart and lives on their own with action-packed suspense.
Unfortunately I skipped #2 in this Angels of Mercy series, which is possibly the reason I cared less for this book than for #1 Lifelines. This one was crammed with too many stories of too many characters all going on at the same time along with the murders - the denouement and final ending were a bit much. I can't say anything more without crashing into a spoiler. I look forward to the other books even though this one didn't really fulfill.
Best medical- romance - thriller book I have read in awhile ! Fast paced, good medical settings and a a good read. Unfortunately my lib only has this and "warning signs" # 2 so I need to buy the 4 th book " critical care" to know what happen next!
Thumbs up!
Are there any other medical thrillers to recommend?
A great Medical drama. There are 8 major characters, so it can be hard at times to keep them all straight, but they are all unique and enjoyable. I was sad to hear that CJ Lyons has switched to non-medical suspense's. There are sooo many regular suspense novels and so very few good medical dramas that I truly hope she will switch back to the medical books :)
I give Urgent Care 2.5 stars. I enjoy the most of the characters and setting, it is fast-paced, but it is not exactly great writing or anything. This is the kind of book to read when you just want some entertainment and nothing else. I will continue to read the series and books are released.
Happy birthday to me!!! And what a pulse-pounding book! The suspense and intrigue were incredible, and CJ's knowledge (duh) of the medical world is mind-boggling. Loved it. Just sad that I have to wait until November for Gina's story.
4 star medical thriller (top 25% of the genre). Part of the 4 book series started with LIFELINES. Wonderful romantic suspense and top-notch hospital/doctor stuff featuring all women protagonists. For my full review, see ScienceThrillers.com
Another good one! I have one more book and I will be sad when this series is over. The author did a great job with making you genuinely care about these characters. I think that along with the pace of the books make them great!
This author delivered another page-turning story. I enjoyed how the characters interacted with each other. I was surprised to have two on-the-edge story lines come to a head at the same time. This story had a few unbelievable situations, but over all it was a good story.
