"Matanzas" is a book of historical fiction about a Spanish Colonial American family who live in the proximity of Fort Matanzas, a satellite fort of St. Augustine's Castillo de San Marcos. In 1565 Pedro Menendez founded St. Augustine for Spain. In that same year, at an inlet located fifteen miles south of St. Augustine, Menendez and his soldiers put two hundred French Huguenots to the sword, including their leader, Jean Rebaut. Henceforth, this inlet has been known as, Matanzas...place of slaughter.
