Sienna Carr writes women's fiction and sweet romance. Her stories are full of quirky and memorable characters and places you'll want to visit time and time again.
I got about 2/3 of the way through the book and had to stop. The story just repeated on and on and on about how Ashleigh gave up everything when her parents died and she broke up with her boyfriend. And the when he came back to town, how she couldn't even have a decent, honest conversation with him. Over and over and over again. We get the picture already!
The story about the Rose Sisters was a pleasant one. Getting to know the characters in depth with their personalities, past and present made it easy to know them and where they were going in life. The author makes it easy to follow although it also makes it easy to know what to expect at the end of each story for the most part.
I really enjoyed this book by Ms. Carr. This story revolves around the relationship of three sisters who own a Bridal shop. The oldest sister has spent her adult life taking care of her two sisters who live together and work together. These sisters are close but have some day to day problems because of the difference in their personalities. This first book revolves around a very controlling eldest sister and her unfulfilled dreams. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
This is a story of three sisters who lost their parents in a tragic accident. The eldest Ashleigh took over from their elder aunt to care for her younger sisters Eloise and the baby Ginny who was so young she barely remembers them. They continued to run their parents' bridal shop. At first, it was a way to honor them and keep their minds busy. However, now it seems it's become a burden. Especially with Ashleigh being forty-two and when she started this she was twenty-one getting ready to leave with the love of her life Ford on a journey across Europe.
Now, there’s Ginny with a foiled wedding due to infidelity, and Eloise who has already been married and divorced, and vacations for weeks at a time then lies to them to take extra time, and Ashleigh barely gets any time off at all. Resentments are building. To top it off the love of her life she sent away to Boston to the career he would have had when they got back from Europe, and then he fell in love, married, had a child, and is now divorced is in town definitely. Her life was grand. But...
This was a disappointing story with an anticlimactic ending. And yet, it was the way most of the story was. Just as the story would hit a point where there should have been some high emotions and conflict. Boom the author would steer the conversation, so it wouldn’t escalate the situation. Leaving the scene dull and uneventful. Ashleigh is a whiner who would rather stew over and take pot shots than have a sit-down and set rules both for the business and the household. Eloise is resentful and overly selfish over the marriage ending the way it did, and she and her parents are taking it out on everyone else.
Ginny, she’s just spoiled. Her ex was right in one respect. However, she is not his sub to order around. He is not her father. Hello, did her seeing a therapist not enter anyone's minds? I wanted to like this more I love wedding books and family dynamics, but this was a little too depressing for me. I thought about going on, but the reviews don’t give me much hope. So I will wait and see if it goes to unlimited or free like this one.
This is one of the best and most realistic depictions of bridal retail I have encountered in fiction. It isn't perfect, but the author demonstrated that she understands the basics of how a retail bridal salon operates. In this case, it is run by 3 sisters who built up the business after their parents died. They also have nameless shop assistants working for them who do not play a role in the story. What these women need is a manager, as none of them seems very interested in running the business anymore. Apparently none of them could come up with this or they are too cheap to hire a professional manager. The actual plot of the novel involved the 3 sisters complaining their workload and trying to sort out their personal/romantic lives. This amounted to a lot of whining and rehashing of the same issues. It was not a bad story, but it lacked substance. None of the 3 women were well developed characters. They seemed to blend together. This novel is the first in a series, each of which will focus on one of the sisters. This installment focused on the oldest sister who thought the other 2 were always taking advantage of her and sticking her with the majority of the work. It's a light read that may be enjoyable by those who like chick lit and beach reading.
This story really resonated with me, I had 2 older sisters when my mom died when I was 13. But there the resemblance ended. This is a lovely story of a great ‘big’ sister, an amazing middle sister and the baby sister they both cared for and loved to distraction. A wonderful aunt that hearted them, I loved it. This was a story of how it should have been, could have been. MIT warmed my heart like no other story I have ever read. Can wait to read the next one.
I don't like giving a fellow author a 3, but this story really didn't resonate with me.
First, and this is so minor, but why wouldn't a business have policies and procedures to follow? A big part of the arguing is about the younger sisters asking the older sister for time off...for Lord's sake, treat a business like a business.
Then, to have the heroine wait until she's 43 to do her life just makes me not like her. Their personalities were just not likable.
But, I do hope they find some faith and real purpose--travel isn't the goal of life (no matter how much we enjoy it).
This charming story revolves around the Rose sisters and the bridal store their parents had started before the were tragically killed in an accident. Though all 3 sisters are talked about in this first book of the series, this book focuses on Ashleigh, the oldest sibling, who had given up her dreams and future to keep the bridal shop running and to help raise her younger sisters. Now, after more than 20 years since her parents passing, her chance to live again had come.
Ashleigh Rose puts everyone else first, and has done so for a long time. She and her younger sisters own a bridal shop started by their deceased parents. Each sister has problems and deals with them in different ways, but Ashleigh tries to solve all of them. She is worn out and needs a break. How it all works out, the sister squabbles, and the return to town of Ashleigh’s long-ago love makes an interesting read.
Ashleigh was the elder of 3 sisters. After their parent's sudden death, she took on being a parent figure to both sisters. They ran the bridal shop of their mother together but Ashleigh felt like she had to guide the others through everything. Finally the pressure was getting to her.
Sienna Carr is an amazing author. It could not have been easy to lose your parents , raise two siblings and run a business. I praise Ashleigh for stepping up. Life tends to throw us curve balls . But there also has to be a time when you take care of your own needs without feeling selfish.
I liked the story but didn't think there was enough romance. The story was about the sisters I get that but I was looking forward to more when it was just done. There could have been so much more about the trip she got to go on and coming back yo the guy she loved her whole life.
The point-of-view jumped around. It's bad enough to have different chapters told from different characters' perspectives; it's worse to find it all jumbled together.
The novel was repetitive. How many times do we have to be told that Ashleigh feels put upon because of the role she takes on? Incidentally, as the oldest in a dysfunctional family, I understand her perspective, but also recognize there is a word in the English language to fit the circumstances. It's "no".
Knowing this is the first in a series of books about three sisters, I expected the story to be continued in another volume. I felt, however, this one just "ended" at what should have perhaps been a chapter break, not a novel break. It did not make me want to read further.
Unfortunately, I gave it a low score because I kept reading the same five or six storylines: complaining about Eloise and all the times she is away from the shop; how she could not live the life she wanted because she had to raise her sisters; how she wanted to go to Europe; Ford and her plans back in the day; etc. Same thing over and over again. No storyline really!
This book seemed to start slowly but feel it was just me. The oldest sister feel trapped and sad because she had given up her dreams to take care of her sisters when their parents were killed. This is her story but gives insight to the personalities of the other sister. Their stories are told in other books in the series.
The girls happen to own a bridal shop but this book is not at all about where dreams begin at a bridal shop. It was a lot of whining and very repetitive story line. Ashleigh feels stuck and wants to travel, I get it and did not need to keep hearing that over and over again. Also horrible editing, words were missing or incorrect tenses
I didn’t mind the concept. It’s a whole book. I like series books so we’ll read about the other sisters lives and adventures. However, the timeline often felt that it was a bit off. In one minute the author made it sound like a lot of time at elapsed and the next like it was only a day or two.
Nice characters dealing with family problems. The sisters love each other, but have found themselves overwhelmed with personal and family relationships. I enjoyed it.
The main character, Ashleigh was so incredibly insufferable. DNF. Could only get about 50 pages in before I just couldn’t stand this selfish woman any longer. Maybe that’s the point of her arc? I’ll definitely never find out. Not worth it.
Three sisters own a bridal shop once owned by their parents until they were tragically killed in a car accident. One sister is about to be married and 2 are having second thoughts about continuing with the shop. All 3 are keeping secrets from each other. First in a series.
Light and casual read. Lots of the plot points were really repetitive but I like that the readers got to spend lots of time with the main characters. I also thought that Ford’s character was pretty flat, other than how him and Ashleigh were past lovers, their connection didn’t feel that strong.
The Rose sister storyline is a must read. Where dreams begin. It's a page turner book. I'm pretty sure that Ginny is pregnant! When Ash returns from her trip she'll get married to love of her life. I am looking forward to the next book of the Rose sisters! Five stars!
Just found the narrative very repetitive, same discussions, complaints, emotions, throughout. Very slight character building. For me, it's disappointing. Expected a deeper dynamic.
The Bridal Shop was a wonderful story about 3 sisters who faced a multitude of personal problems and handled them the best they could. Sometimes they showed normal sibling anger and anxiety, but were always, ultimately, there for each other. A very heartwarming story.
