Zane and his dad Grayson became the laughing stock of the town when they claimed to have seen something incredible during a walk in the woods - a mountain lion which changed into a human. After years of ridicule and harassment and having everyone they cared about turn their backs on them, they moved to a remote cabin in the woods, where they searched tirelessly (and fruitlessly) for the creature.

Now Grayson is sick and running out of time. He has one final wish; to see the creature once more to prove to himself that he isn't crazy. Zane heads into the forest, desperate to locate the animal and grant his father’s desire, but only finds himself in trouble.

Ridge is drawn beyond the borders of his pack lands when he hears a cry for help, and soon finds his mate in peril. After a case of misunderstanding and mistaken identity, Ridge gives Zane his claiming bite in order to save his life. He’s expecting a greeting of love and excitement when Zane heals and regains consciousness, but all he receives is an extremely confused and terrified mate.

*This low angst, insta-love M/M shifter romance features steamy scenes between fated lovers who are on a fast track romance. It contains no cheating, and a very happy HEA! This is a complete story which leads into the next book of the series, featuring a new couple.

I live in rural Ohio with my husband and two sons who drive me nuts, but I love them with all my heart. I enjoy reading and writing romance of all types, but gay romance is my forte and favorite! Twice the sexy men? Yes, please! My books tend to be low angst because it hurts my heart, but they do contain lots of heartfelt moments, steamy scenes and a healthy dose of humor. Thank you to everyone for checking out my page and I hope you enjoy my books. Happy reading!

The first book is the only one in the series worth reading tbh.

--------------------------

Well, the premise of this was almost exactly like Jada Marx's other series, Mine to Save, but why mess with a good formula? I honestly didn't care that it wasn't original in the least.

We had the scared younger man in need of protection, and the big bad sweetheart of a shifter ready to claim his mate and make him happy for the rest of their lives.

It works for me.

I KNEW IT! I was praying the ending would reveal the mate of a certain someone to be a certain someone's. Also, I would've been sooooooo pissed if book 2 hadn't been released. Just as always, Jayda is always there as a reality check of mine to be a GOOD HUMAN BEING

Sometimes you meat the best people, your fabled mate

Some times they have friends that are helpful. A ridge is a high strip of mountain land that separates the low part on each side. The sides are usually opposites, but linked similar terrain.

The Ridge in this book is that fated mate that saves his mate in a bear attack that should have been fatal. But knowledge of herbs and two great shifter friends save the day as fated mates become immortal.

But the situation gets even better as the human's dying father is helped by healing herbs, too. But in a flashback to the first contact with shifters, a small boy shifted to a cougar but got away. After searching for years for the boy and others like him, the father had given up searching and no one believes then.

But the power of friendship and fated mates may save the father if he can become immortal if he can find his true mate.

A rough beginning

This book starts with a very violent scene and I’m surprised that there isn’t some sort of trigger warning.

This book was a super quick read…too quick. There wasn’t much to the story and while it included all of Jayda’s insta-love/fates mate goodness, it was just not enough. It needed more.

********** Contains Spoilers**********

Jayda’s books are always filled with sunshine, sweetness and little to no angst. They just make me smile. I enjoyed this book and found it the best of the series. I thought that Ridge and Zane were great together. Fifteen years ago when Zane and his father Grayson were walking through the woods they witnessed a child turn into a mountain lion cub. When they got back home and told others about what happened they were harassed and ridiculed for years, and left both those that loved and cared for them, so they moved to a remote cabin in the woods and have been hunting for the creature ever since but no luck.

Grayson is dying, and Zane is caring for him and he’d really like to find the creature to know what he saw was real and that he wasn’t crazy but he’s running out of time. Zane wants to make his father’s dying wish come so he ventures out into the woods, but is attacked by a black bear. Ridge a mountain lion shifter, is drawn out outside pack lands when he hears a cry for help. It doesn’t take long to find his mate in peril. Zane thought that Ridge was the cub that they saw all those years ago, and Ridge thought that he’d recognised him as mates even though he’s human.

Ridge gives Zane the claiming bite with his alpha Rider’s blessing to save his life. When Zane wakes up he completely freaks out as he doesn’t understand where he is or who he’s with. Ridge is apologetic about the whole situation and it doesn’t take Zane long to realise that Ridge just wants Zane to be happy. Ridge takes Zane home so he can see his father as he’s dying. Even for a Jayda Marx book, I did find that feelings blossomed for Zane at warp speed. Still and enjoyable read. I’m looking forward to reading Rowdy and Grayson’s story next. I’d recommend this book, series, universe and author to others.

4/5, cute and short and sweet.

Tropes:
✅ Shifter x human
✅ Instalove
✅ Fated mates
✅ Near-death experience

Things I loved about this book: it was super sweet! I liked learning about Zane and his father, about the small pack of the mountain lions. There was some interesting world-building with these shifters and I was liking the fact of people trying to share about the existence of shifters and what happened to them because of it. It definitely brings up some of those questions you don’t normally see. The book itself, well written in Jayda’s remarkable style! I like the instalove and low angst, really good for me after a more heavier read.

Also, eeeeevery once in awhile Jayda gets an opportunity for an action/violence scene and she never pulls the punches in description. It’s amusing, considering the rest of her content is so sugary sweet! I saw this in her Big Daddy book too, lol.

I wasn’t a biggest fan of the cliff-hanger style lead in to the next book. The MCs are definitely happy, together, so their story is ‘complete’, but we get dropped with a big plot thing right at the end that made the book feel a little unfinished but I guess it worked in making me want to read to find out what happens next!

Cougars, bear attack & mate, oh my!

This story was sweet with a touch of sadness. Zane has his hands full caring for his father while trying to find the mysterious creature they saw when he was a child. Ridge is happy but would be happier to find his mate. Ridge and Rowdy rescues Zane from a bear attack. Ridge must take drastic action in order to save his mate. From that moment on there is confusion for Zane but sweet patience from Ridge to explain everything to him. There is an interesting bit that involves Rowdy and how he may be connected loosely to Zane and his father. If you want a short sweet read then check this out. Be on the lookout for the next book in which Rowdy stars. I have a feeling it is going to bring a tear to the eye and I can't wait. 😉

A cougar, a wish, and a destiny. Fate saves the day.

This is a fantastic start of a new series! I became invested in this story and the characters from the first pages. From Ridge saving Zane, to Zane's father Grayson struggling for a little more time, to an intensely hot loss of v- card scene, this book has it all. Come. Join Zane and Ridge on their journey to HEA. A wish will be fulfilled. Family will be secured. And love will triumph. Ooh, and you will never look at rock climbing the same way again. There is a surprise ending that sets up the next book. The story continues...I can't wait! You are gonna love this book!
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.

I love this author's books. They are a guaranteed fun, sweet, zero angst, easy read. This one was no exception. Ridge and Zane were just adorable together and despite what could be considered a pretty rocky start (more circumstances than anything) they're able to start the rest of their life together. I don't want to say too much (no spoilers here!) but I really loved the emphasis on family (whether blood or found). The people in this book (whether Ridge's pack mates or Zane's dad) cared for one another deeply and it was lovely background to Zane and Ridge getting their HEA. I'm really excited to see what comes next for a certain bouncy cougar!

*Sigh of relief*

Jayda Marx used to be a one-click author for me…as in, I didn’t even need to read the blurb—if it was Jayda Marx and paranormal, I knew I would like it. And then came Redemption, which taught me a severe lesson about blindly purchasing books based on the author’s name alone (yes, I’m still bitter and I can’t even return Redemption because I used an Amazon book credit and that ticks me off even more). From now on, I’ll read her books on KU first before shelling out for a personal copy. I can’t tell you how relieved I am that On The Ridge was traditional Jayda Marx in quality and storyline. The only regret I have is that I should have waited until the entire series was out before starting because I’ll be on pins and needles until book two comes out!

Cougars 8n the woods

Novella, first in a series, focusing on a trio in a pack of cougar shifters. Zane, adopted son of a single gay man, lives with his father in the woods, both having been ostracized after reporting seeing a shifter. Zane meets a bear which nearly kills him, until rescued by a pair of shifter cougars. Ridge determines he has found his mate, bonds with Zane and heals him. They proceed into a relationship, which completes this short tale. Marx writes well, giving rounded characters who, in their insecurity, grow I. Love and passion.

I DID IT! I FINISHED IT! 🍭🍬😖

Woop! Woop! Yep this is a very, very sweet and short read. And when I say sweat I mean cavity inducing, with a tiny smidge of angst. This IS a short story, yet I had trouble just finishing it, because of the sweetness 🙄 This could have been longer for sure where it wasn't just, Bam you in love boi! Sweetness is fine, just not when it is about 95% of the book, to me. So yeah I'm going to have to give this a 2 out of five stars. I wish I liked sweet more, but I just don't. Even if I read them for a pick me up, sometimes.

This book was so heartwarming and very sweet. It truly touched my heart. I enjoyed the writing and how it stayed at a nice smooth pace, never boring me or dragging. Ridge and Zane were so precious together, however, the ending was quite frustrating since I wanted to see what happens with Zane's father who was terminal. I'll definitely be grabbing the next book when it comes out. So excited. I thoroughly adored this story.

Sweet book

Now I want a cougar shifter for myself. This short story was so sweet with some steamy moments. Ridge is so perfect. I often hate top males and love just the bottom man but Ridge is irresistible, so kind, so supportive : an ideal man that I would love for myself. The end eas awkward, or it's just me being closed minded but I would chose a better match for Rowley, but I will definitely read the next book and see how he will gesture his situation.

I really struggle with simplistic instalove stories when a MC starts using ‘my love’ and ‘my mate’ the first time they address the other MC. The storytelling is too sweet, too childlike, and too dramatic - I miss the richness and thoughtfulness of good character and relationship development. This is my second and definitely my last Jayda Marx story, her writing is just not for me. Audio narrator Denver Stevens two accents suited the story, but were a little cartoonish for my taste.

Sweet as ever

I have to admit, while I always love Jayda's books and the main characters , I was more worried about the dad and praying he had a mate. This is a very sweet book which leaves us on a cliffhanger regarding the next book and characters. I can't wait for that one to come out.

Loved this one

I’m so happy with the start to this series. Ridge was such a wonderful match for Zane. I loved the story of how they came together. There was sweetness with a little bit of heat thrown in.

This is exactly what I’ve come to expect of a Jayda book and she did not disappoint. I’m super excited for the next book in this series.

What an opener

Wow what a fantastic first book in this new series.
Jayda has done it again, a story that just grabs you and you can't put down.
Not to spoil anything but I think the way the ending leads us to the next book is fantastic.
I absolutely love all Jayda's books and this is another joy to read.

An excellent quick read!!

I loved how the author was able to mix fantasy with real issues everyone faces at least someway in their lives as well as including tough decisions one may need to make along the way through life. The characters and details are flawless. An enjoyable read all the way around. Looking forward to the next I. This series

Very cute story - no more, no less.

I thought the immediate Insta-love between Ridge and Zane a bit rushed and hard to believe, especially on the heels of his dad's imminent death. I had a feeling one of Ridge's pack mates would end up as Grayson's mate... Four stars for a nice story.

A short story of shifter instant love story that has the fairy tale Happy ever after!

Ridge to stumble upon a human attacked by a bear is terrible but it being his mate is horrific. Zane balancing caring for his father and granting his final wish is more then anyone can endure. There meeting horrific life and death but their bonding a sweet romance! MM romance
