Xarc'n Warriors #5

Rescued by the Hunter

Rate this book

KORIV’N

My mate’s scent calls to me. I hunt it, each step taking me closer to the one thing I came to Earth to find.

These silly humans think they’ve captured me. What a joke. They’ve captured nothing! I’m here for my female, and nothing can stop me. I will find her, and I will claim her. She is mine!

When my mate runs right into me and begs for me to take her away, I can hardly believe my ears. Today must be my lucky day!

NIKKI

I need to get out of here.

With certain doom pounding at the door, I do the unthinkable, I beg the massively muscled mauve warrior towering over me to take me with him. To my surprise, the hunter gathers me into his arms, growls, “MINE!” and jumps out of a second-floor window!

I hope this isn't a horrible mistake!

Another great story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: ☹️😳🥺☺️🥰

The heroine: Nikki - her husband Jason had changed and gotten worse and worse since the alien bugs attacked. He pimped her out for things that improved his life. Nikki now hated Jason and has been beaten down living that life. She decided to run for it with a friend of hers and ended up caught. The leader had demanded they make an example out of her so she was now running from Jason when she comes across a Xarc’n hunter that was captured by the group.

The Hero: Koriv’n - he knew Nikki was his since he first scented her and he purposely got caught by the group in order to find and save his female. When Nikki ran into the room where Koriv’n was, he easily escaped with her.

The Story: Nikki had been a zombie movie enthusiast so was a bit prepared for the apocalypse, but she never thought she would end up living in one. She was hoping that the group Koriv’n took her to were cleaner and kinder than the group she had ended up with. She knew Koriv’n smelled clean and fresh and had offered herself to him for safety, she knew she had blundered when he turned her down. He didn’t want her if it was only in exchange for something else. He wanted her to want him for himself.

Like the rest of the series, this book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. Troy Duran and Keira Stevens do the narration and along with the good storylines, and world building are a big part of why I bought every audiobook in this series. I love Troy’s super deep and sexy voice and Keira has a great voice as well.

Koriv’n was a nice and protective Hero. Like the rest of the Xarc’n hunters he was possessive and strong and I really liked all of these warriors. The alien insect story is great and this one had a good side storyline about Nikki’s husband and the band of bad guys they are with.

Okay. Koriv'n and Nikki are up. Koriv'n is one of the warriors from the hunter group that defied orders and rerouted themselves to Earth when they learned there were compatible females there. Which means he's part of the hunters, but he's also slightly apart from them. If that makes sense.

Then there's Nikki. She was one of the human women who attempted to escape in Evie and Tarv'k's book. While her escape partner managed to make it out of the raider's compound, Nikki wasn't so fortunate. She got dragged back by her despicable husband and things didn't look good for the lady.

Then Koriv'n allowed himself to get captured so he could find Nikki (gotta love those sensitive alien noses and how quick the big guys are to know when they scent their special someone) and soon the two were busting out and navigating the wilds of Franklin in an adventuresome, getting to know you first date sort of way. Honestly, Nikki really just needed time to decompress after escaping the compound and Koriv'n was more than willing to fight off any bugs they came across to give it to her.

A little danger, a group of humans who were NOT good people, lots of bugs, a hunter on the prowl, and a lady who takes a chance and ends up with a hunk of an alien. *thumbs up*

These two are adorable. I love how understanding Koriv’n is of Nikki’s wariness.. He is so sweet. I love how everything worked out for them.

I found this is to be SO different from all the other alien romance out there (that I’ve read at least).

This absolutely fascinating, post-apocalyptic alien romance is a splendid addition to the “Xarc’n Warriors” series and I could not put down once I started it (each book is this series can be read as a standalone & covers a different couple in each of them but for maximum enjoyment I would recommend reading the series). The storyline flowed smoothly throughout an intriguing plot & has good world building with descriptive scenes. The two main characters are interesting strong-willed individuals that complement each other throughout their dangerous journey & in particular I liked the way the they continued to develop throughout the story-line to become an emotional strong couple. There is good support from the secondary characters.
It is about: a determined alien warrior (Koriv’n) with an ingenious plan in mind allows himself to be captured by some human rebels in order to claim his human female mate (Nikki) & is pleasantly surprise when she desperately asks him to take her with when he escapes.
There is: Nikki’s despicable husband (Jason), human rebels, alien warriors, a catastrophic event, an alien insect invasive scourge, friendship, comradery, adventure, action, intrigue, drama, suspense, mates, determination, deadly dangers, threats, confrontations, violence, conflict, steamy scenes & a well-deserved, satisfying conclusion.

More like 2.5

He was the least alien of all the aliens. Honestly, his responses were too human. The story felt rushed and he wasn’t quiet what I expected.

If it’s possible, I thinks this is the best romance in the series. The arc plot is still just perfect with an amazing depth and pacing.

But the romance here has just a bit more something. Maybe it was the incredibly sweet and thoughtful MMC (all the other were amazing too).

Like all books in this series, it’s wildly entertaining.

If you like Apocalypse survival movies, you'll love this series. With the added bonus of hot, alpha and extremely sweet aliens.

Xarc’n Warriors is an 8-book post apocalypse series written by Lynnea Lee. The books are set on Earth, after an alien invasion from space bugs, where the few human survivors are still fighting for survival daily. The invasive species, controlled by a “queen,” have built hives inside major cities, and killed (and ate) most humans. The space bugs (aka scourge) carry an infectious and deadly bacteria. Any human that became desperate enough (from starvation) to capture and eat a scourge, turned into a heavily contagious zombie that must be avoided at all cost. The scourge will stop at nothing to return the bacteria to its hive. The remaining humans have taken refuge outside the major cities. Some forming survivalist groups and cults that stand against the Xarc’n Warriors. The Xarc’n Warriors are aliens that have come to help Earth by ridding it of their scourge infestation. The Xarc’ns, being perfect clones specifically designed to fight the bugs, reside in territories around the world. This series follows the Xarc’n Warrior group that created a safe compound inside Franklin. Xarc’n Hunter’s are over 7 feet tall, purple skin, ram-like horns sprouting from their temples, sharp teeth with fangs, and retractable claws. They all seem to have muscles on top of their muscles; no dad bods here. Their females are extinct, which is why they’ve been intrigued to match and mate with women of Earth (they are compatible and can have offspring together). But they have to travel to the mothership in order to activate their dormant mating capabilities, so no accidental pregnancies can be had.

Written in 1st person, Rescued by the Hunter is book 5 in the series and follows the Xarc’n Warrior Koriv’n and his human mate Nikki. We first met Nikki in the last book (book 4) when Evie got captured by the raiders. Tarv’k rescued Evie with Koriv’n’s help, but two more women decided to make a run from the compound. One got away and the other was recaptured. Koriv’n smelled the captured Nikki on the escaped Meghan and knew he had to rescue her because she was his mate. So he intentionally got himself captured. His plan worked, Nikki was rescued, and she was more than willing to accept his help and protection. The two made their way back to the settlement on foot, allowing themselves the extra time to get to know each other and fall in love. Nikki took that time to rid herself of her ex husband who had been using her like property since the bugpocolypse. (He’d been trading her to other men in exchange for food and security.) Unlike most other Xarc’n Warriors, Koriv’n was a hopeless romantic who abandoned his initial orders to fight the scourge on a doomed planet to help Earth instead. He had his fertility turned back on before his crew abandoned their mothership and had been collecting researched items ever since for his future mate. Things like chocolate, wedding rings, teddy bears, etc. So when he caught his mate’s scent in Nikki, Koriv’n was prepared and hopeful. He even had a human proposal and wedding, along with a surprise announcement at the end. 🫶🏻

Admittedly, I am 100% on board with the Xarc’n species. Their protective, aggressive, possessive, dominant, controlling need of need of their mate is my kind of flavor. The way they unintentionally purr, growl and roar is kinda cute too. When a mating band takes place, neither party can physically stop touching each other for a certain period of time. Which is different and quite endearing. Each section of a Xarc’n cock is shaped like a sex toy; a head with a thick ridge around the widest part and it dipped in before the next part started. Picture a butt-plug with 3 round balls, each one bigger than the last.

The book doesn’t suck; it’s filled with adventure and a little romance. I just prefer found myself a little bored with the redundant story. I recommend reading, at least once. Onto the next book in the series…

I really enjoyed getting to read about Nikki & Koriv’n in this story and loved how sweet Koriv’n was and all the research and planning he had done for when he finally found his mate. I have read a lot of this series before (out of order) and have enjoyed them all and it is fun getting to see some of the characters mentioned here when I know what their story will be in the future and it makes me want to revisit some of their stories since it's been awhile since I read them.

This series is detailed, colorful, and injected with humor to keep things light. The women are strong and level-headed. The Xarc’n are swoon-worthy superhero sweethearts sporting purple skin and horns. The series is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth. Giant bugs from space have decimated the world population and most of the food supply on the planet. Xarc’n Warriors have come to Earth to help us fight off the giant bugs. There are no female Xarc’n, so these warrior hunters live a lonely existence until they come to Earth and realize they are compatible with human females.

In his installment of the bugpocalypse, Koriv’n rescues Nikki from her abusive ex-husband. They have to make their way back to safety through bug infested streets and bad guys with guns. He knows she is his mate and patiently wears down her objections throughout the series of adventures they share. Their story was a thrilling page turner. The over-arching story-line is updated with the growing camaraderie between Xarc'n and humans.

Here’s what I love most about this series. The purple, sculpted aliens with the sensitive horns and the yellow eyes are total sweetheart heroes and the objects of their obsession usually end up receptive to their advances while they fight as a team against giant alien bugs. The author never resorts to the lazy crutch of made up artificial angst that makes the heroine appear deranged and irrational just to keep the story going because there is plenty of humor, action, and adventure to keep the reader's interest all the way to the end of the story. Everyone is fighting to stay alive. There is no time for hysterical antics.

Every story in this series is a winner and I recommend reading them all. Each new story is a standalone that makes the big picture of this post-apocalyptic world more colorful and detailed.

This book was fabulous and I couldn’t put it down and I loved that all the characters from previous books where there as one big family. Koriv’n is an Xarc‘n Hunter who was never supposed to be on earth but else where but when some of the crew heard that the earth females are bonding with them Koriv’n wanted his own mate and came to earth to find her and against all odds he finds her but he must rescue her from the nasty human males that treat all females badly. So in order to get close to her he lets the males from the camp capture him or so they think because all Hunters are powerfully strong. After breaking free he goes in search of his things in the storage room and who should come in but his mate and Nikki is trying to find away out with two of the males Jason and Nick coming after her she realises she is not alone in the room and begs the Hunter to take her away and he does by jumping out the window. Koriv’n has lost his translator but knows a few human words trying to put her at ease, on the run they make to the house that has stuff hidden and contacts the compound letting them know he is on his way back with Nikki and decides to walk back rather than being picked up so he can get to know his mate better and she agrees. With her ex husband chasing them and the bugs wanting to eat them they find themselves relialing on each. Can they make back to the compound safely and have a future together. Get this great book with its danger, drama, fighting the ex and the bugs to find out how it all turns out.

This is the fifth in the Xarc’n Warriors series (sixth if you join the newsletter group and get the prequel…which you won’t want to miss!). This story follows Koriv’n and Nikki. If you’ve read the series, you know that the last book left off with Koriv’n going back alone to rescue Nikki. This story picks up from that point.

That being said, this could absolutely be read as a stand-alone. But, believe me, this series is so very enjoyable if you have read the previous books. You will already love all the previous hero’s/heroines and be well versed in who the enemies are, be they bug or horrible humans.

I loved this story because it had a perfect blend of adventure, emotion, romance, and down-to-earth applications to existing in a bugpocolypse. This book also has a first in this series that will be revealed at the end! So excited!

Somehow Lynnea Lee manages to make each story unique. I am especially enjoying how they are all evolving together. I am very excited to see where this series goes in future, for as long as this author wants to keep writing in it. I personally will read anything by this author. I have not once been disappointed. They are all easy reads with great world-building, no cheating, and always a HEA.

I highly recommend this book and series….and author, really!

When Koriv'n and the other hunters and humans went to rescue the two human mates captures by an evil gang of humans, they realized that the women with the gang were being held captive and abused. When they rescues the two mates, two human women made a run for it too. They were able to save one but one got recaptured. Koriv'n realized that the captured woman is his mate and he knows that he has to rescue her. He allows himself to get captured so he could more easily find her in the encampment. He hopes that he will be able to convince her she will be safer with him than the evil gang. Luckily she is willing to leave with him and Koriv'n now has to get her back to the compound safely and convince her to be his.

Nikki does like the changes in her life since the alien bugs arrived. Her husband had turned into an evil man who sees her as his property. He uses her to things that he needs by pressuring her to trade sex for things. She is no longer really his wife but his prisoner. She will do anything to escape even agreeing to go with the mauve hunter who says he is there to rescue her. Nikki has been betrayed by so many people that she has lost all trust in people. However she might be able to trust an alien. Koriv'n has shown he will do anything to protect her.

5/5 ⭐️

Amazing story! Lee’s newest couple, Nikki and Koriv’n, were the cutest couple ever. I thought I loved Evie and Tarv’k’s relationship dynamic, but I believe this book knocked it out of the park for me. Personally, their spicy scenes did not equal the last book’s, but that’s just because I’m obsessed with dirty talk; however, the new positions in this book’s spicy scenes greatly made up for it. I was hooked from page one.

Nikki’s relationship with Koriv’n began when she asked him to help her escape her psycho ex-husband. One of the first words Koriv’n ever spoke to her was “safe”— something she hadn’t felt in years. He protected her from the scary gangs of humans and bugs and listened when she talked about her horrible past. He restored her trust in not just men but the world around her, helping her see a bright future with him and his friends.

Unlike the other books in this series, the author chose to write a Xarc’n Warrior who had assimilated to Earth customs more than the other warriors. This was incredibly adorable because Koriv’n hoarded stuffed animals and chocolate because he hoped to one day give them to his mate. This type of golden retriever energy is beyond adorable.

All in all, this book was delightful, just for the relationship dynamic itself. Although their spicy scenes weren’t quite up to par with the last book’s, I believe this relationship makes up for it. I will definitely read this book again in the future.

Fantastic!

Another great Xarc’n Warriors book! Do they keep getting better or am I just addicted to them?

Koriv’n comes to earth hoping to find his mate. Until such time he is helping to fight the scourge that is destroying earth. When he goes to help rescue two of their females that had been kidnapped, he smells his mate inside. So he lets himself be captured so he can rescue her too.

Nikki has been at the compound for a few months with her husband, who she now hates. He shares her with the other men in exchange for goods for himself. She tried to escape but he caught her and dragged her back. She knows if she doesn’t get out of there her life will get even worse. She runs upstairs and literally runs into Koriv’n. She goes with him willingly. As they make their way back to the Hunters compound Nikki gets to know Koriv’n . She is attracted to him but isn’t sure about the whole mate thing. She just escaped from a bunch of horrible men, she’s not sure she is ready to jump into another relationship. Can Koriv’n be patient enough to give Nikki the time she needs or will he chase her away?

Keep them coming Lynnea!!

This story is about Koriv'n and Nikki set in the post-apocalyptic alien bug invasion of Earth and is the fifth story in this enjoyable series. This decimated Earth created human fractions trying to survive. Some good, some bad. Some blame the Xarc'n warriors bringing the bugs, some work with the Xarc'n warriors to destroy them. The Xarc'n warriors who usually clone themselves have been finding human mates among the surviving women. The women are precious to them and are found by their scent. Koriv'n following Nikki's scent gets himself taken and locked in a darken room by the humans which he planned because Nikki is there and he plans to escape with her. Meanwhile Nikki is looking for a way to escape and enters the darken room and props a chair against the door not seeing Koriv'n in the corner. Koriv'n makes his presence known and she begs him to take her away. What occurs after their escape with the humans and bugs hunting them was a engaging romantic story with lots of steamy romance and action. I loved both leading characters and of course the recurring characters from the previous books. The battles fighting the bugs are detail and engaging in this ARC that I volunteer to read and review via Booksprout.

Preparing For Love ❤️

Oh my GOSH....I loved Koriv’n ❤️❤️❤️ This warrior was a true romantic y’all. He spent so much time preparing for the time when he met his mate....gathering things to gift his mate, reading about how humans fell in love so that he could court his mate, and just basically doing all he could to be ready when he finally met her. He was prepared for everything, except how his potential mate actually acted once he found her lol. For Nikki, breaking free from the crazy group of humans she was a part of, and finding safety with the hot mauve alien warrior, was an easy decision. Of course, after getting a bugapocalypse “divorce”, she wasn’t ready to get serious so quickly. Fortunately for Koriv’n, all his research meant his wooing skills were strong, but what happens after danger from her old group puts their future in jeopardy? Will Nikki be able to let go of her past and embrace her future with Koriv’n, or will her trust issues hold her back? Read this book if you want to see if all of Koriv’ns preparations help him and Nikki when it matters most. I can’t wait for the next installment in this series!!!

Nikki has been tricked, beaten and mistreated by those she thought were safe. One was even her husband but it seems that power during a Scourge invasion still heads to some people's heads. She is desperately trying to escape when she caught but her friend Meghan tells the hunters that Nikki is basically enslaved and they decide to help her. Koriv'n was about when Nikki was recaptured by the men and scented her which gices him the suspicion that she is his mate. The nose knows, as they say. He gets captured in order to save her. Can he get them both to safety and prove to her that he can be forever? Since her husband betrayed her Nikki is not so happy about the idea of forever, fooling about maybe, forever and children, no, ope not happening and yet??
I love how there are just enough characters to keep it interesting, past couples still appear, that the humans are not trained survivalist just run of the mill people making the best of what they can. The hunters are honourable, just and kind despite how they came into being. I really enjoy these books and this series is one of my absolute favourites

Finding His Mate . . .

Koriv’n is an alien warrior who scents his mate and must find her. His people have no females on their planet, but they are compatible with Earth females. So he comes up with a plan to let the humans capture him so he can get closer to where his human female mate is. To his surprise, he finds Nikki and she begs him to take her with him when he escapes. They could never have held him anyway, but he is happy to wrap his arms around her and leap out the window!

Nikki heard the pounding at the door and knew this was her only chance for survival. She begged the huge mauve alien to take her with him. Growling the word “Mine”, he grabs her and jumps from a second story window! She doesn’t even have time to wonder if she has just made a bad mistake! Will he get her to safety? Can they outrun the bugs? Is she willing to accept a whole new future with her alien mate?

The combination of humor, suspense, and high-action will draw the reader into this story from the very beginning. The characters are terrific, especially the aliens who will do anything they must to protect the female fate has chosen for them. Grab your copy and enjoy their story!

Koriv'n is one the many Hunters created to kill the scourge, decimating planets. When his ship hears of the mates other hunters have found on Earth, they abandon their doomed mission and head to Earth. Koriv'n has only two goals in life, killing scourge and finding his mate.

Nikki's husband turned evil after the scourge came and changed their lives. He used her to barter for things in the camp they joined and she's had enough. Nikki is willing to take her chances with the strange aliens than spend another day enslaved by her husband.

Nikki's been burned by her husband and isn't sure she wants to make a lifelong commitment to the sexy alien that rescued her. Koriv'n has been studying and harvesting everything he can to romance and convince the little human to stay with him forever.

Lee gives us all the requirements for a feel good, sweet romance done alien style. A rescue, wooing, healing and sweet, tender moments. I was charmed.

Book 5 of the series- can be read as a stand alone, but why would you want to?

Story picks up with Koriv'n being "caught" by the humans so he can rescue the woman they caught - his Nikki. She has lost faith in men after what her marriage has mutated into in the face of the bugpocolypse. With very few words said, Nikki chooses to trust Koriv'n and their adventure begins.

I love how attentive Koriv'n is. He feels that Nikki is the one, but he wants her to make her own choice in choosing him for herself. He has spent his time preparing for finding her and is ready to win her heart.

I swooned at how their relationship developed. We have several opportunities to compare Koriv'n and Nikki's past and Koriv'n wins hands down.

We get to visit he settlement and see other couples again too. They are really becoming a community and providing hope for the future.

A satisfying series that has both danger and heart. I cannot wait to read the next one.

Koriv'n and Nikki are definitely in my top three. I love how Koriv'n goes after Nikki and really wants to win her over old school style. And I love how they spend time together. It is great to hear about how Nikki has changed during the bugpocalypse without bogging down into the past. Koriv'n has come to earth despite being ordered to a different planet. He has done a lot of prep for his future mate and it is so fun to see some of his ideas about what winning over a human will require. This couple is so great together. They talk and support each other and have been through a lot, but don't feel heavy.

These books are standalone but I love this series. I love how the group is building up a compound over time and how every one works together. And I like seeing little hints of previous couples. I also think that there is a good set up for later books. But it all feels natural and not like Lynnea Lee is trying to shove every character in to every book with no real reason.

I’m absolutely loving the Xarc’n warrior books. This book is about Nikki and Koriv’n. Nikki has been staying with a group with her so called husband. He’s changed and for the worse, making Nikki do things to get him better or more supplies. When she tried to escape with Meghan she was caught, now she’s locked in the storage room trying to find a way out. She didn’t realise a Xarc’n warrior was in there too but when he calls her name and tells her she is safe she begs to go with him. Little did she know Koriv’n will take her anywhere. When Meghan escaped Koriv’n could smell Nikki and he knew then she was his mate. When she’s captured he gets deliberately caught by the men in order to save her. When she locks herself in the storage room she doesn’t realise he’s there but he plans on saving her. Of course jumping out of a second story window wasn’t in his plans. Nikki has found the best thing to happen to her. The book has action, bugs, steamy scenes, more bugs and a happily ever after ending.

This series has been a delight from the beginning. but I've got to admit they keep getting better and better. I love how Nikki took a literal "leap" of faith with Koriv'n, when she asked him top take her with him. Especially after with him growling "mine" to her and not being able to say much else to her except
"safe" Kind of gives you tingles, thinking about that big sexy alien jumping out out of that window and taking off with her and making sure that she's safe and protected. Of course Koriv'n wants much more than that, but he wants her to want him too and he's determined to be patient with her. That's what I love about this series, it's about sweet love and romance and interaction and throw in some hot, steamy, sexy lovin' too! Then there's the day to day surviving in the bugpocalypse that makes this such a great story. Great characters, awesome worldbuilding, full of action and adventure and always a HEA. A really great read!!

Okay, our main character Nikkie tried to escape after the bug apocalypse began and turned her cowardly husband into a cowardly thug who beats her. She tries to escape him and his crazy gang and runs into our alien hero, who came to rescue her.

They set out to go back to the safety of their encampment, but they run into danger alien bugs and the cowardly thugs. So our main alien leave reminds her that she is his mate.

Nikki understands differences in their culture but disregards the fact that these males wait years for their mates! So why do these women in these alien romances takes advantage of when that is what Nikki (female characters like her) are doing to these alien males. This character trope believes sex shouldn’t be part of the mating ritual if it’s just casual sex! But the makes are always cool with it, and they make it a challenge when it's messed up! Ugh! But that’s part of the “chase.” I have it sometimes, but Nikki has been through a lot like all the other characters. And that's why I read alien romances.

These Xarc’n hunters are seriously irresistible. I know they are kind of scary looking to humans but these big fellas know how to treat their women.

Nikki is in serious need of rescue when Rajivk’n comes for her. She’s terrified but desperate enough to go with him to escape her abusive husband and his gross friends. Of course, she doesn’t realize this alien has already recognized her scent as his mate.

She happily goes with him but since she’s just escaped an abusive relationship she’s not ready for anything serious.

This book is really action packed with escape and this new community of aliens and humans building a community to weather the bugpacolypse. The romance between Nikki and Rajivk’n develops slowly but surely.

Story 4/5, heat 3/5, medium burn, no condoms, fated mates. No cliffhanger, no cheating and very sweet HEA and epilogue.

This was my first book by Lynnea Lee and I am thoroughly impressed. This book had adventure, suspense, action, danger, romance and great world building. The world has succumbed to a alien bug invasion and the Xarc'n Warriors have come to render aid against the deadly creatures. They are a warrior race without females and have discovered they are compatible with humans and have destined mates.

Koriv'n knows that Nikki is his true mate and lets himself get captured in order to infiltrate the human camp. Nikki is in real trouble and asks the warrior to help her escape not knowing that he is there for her because she is his mate. They make their escape and have to continue on a journey with danger all around, and as they rely on each other and grow closer. Well done and very enjoyable. I will be looking into other books by this author.

Koriv'n is adorable; he's been stockpiling chocolate (and he's been made aware that candy bars are simply chocolate flavored, rather then being real chocolate, so the cocoa snob in me really appreciates that) and wedding rings in anticipation of meeting his mate.

Nikki's story is particularly tragic. One of the men holding her captive is her spouse. Every day she has to live with the image of what he used to be with what he is now. Returning to her former home, she has to look at the life they once had and could have had. She's willing to take a chance with a Xarc'n if it means a chance at escape. But the fact that she was married to one of her captors makes him less likely to cut his losses and not risk his life to track her down.

Nikki gives a quick and interesting outsider perspective of the community the readers have come to know so well.

My favorite book of this series so far.
Koriv'n was everything I thought he would be. Fun and unbearably sweet. Of all the warriors I felt his longing to find someone the most. His preparation for her was super cute and YES to the mild breeding kink. I loved it!
Nikki's character was far more developed than the heroines of the previous books. I liked where she started though I wish we could have known more about the abuse she suffered to get a better understanding of her distrust.
What took this story off course for me was how quickly Nikki flipped the script from being hesitant to being all in. After Koriv'n was hurt she was ready to jump him and while I can understand the sentiment it felt like a rush to the finish line.
This is turning out to be one of those series where every book leaves you wanting. Not bad but certainly not great.
It's a mid-level series that can be improved upon.
