This was a good read. Mik is working on an apartment. Here he meets Jolie and they begin a fling. His mother is sick and in order to receive his inheritance he needs to be married. Things do get complicated between them. However, in the end everything works out and they get their happy ending.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this. It was a funny, yet sad, and serious journey. I enjoyed reading these two characters Mik and Jolie, or Jo, and all the events leading up to the "sleep date". They, of course, realize it's deeper and want to see where it goes. There's a lot to this story, and I couldn't quite connect to parts of the journey the way I wanted to. It was still a pretty great read, over all.
I loved the way it started out, then it ran in several different directions, and I felt it didn't give each the depth I would've liked, but still a very good storyline.
We get to see what an honorable man Mik is. How he takes care of and pays for his mother's expensive medical necessities, and paying for her apartment, so she doesn't have to go live in a home. Between Mik and Jolie, they figure a way to get access to his sizable inheritance with stipulations, so he can set his mother up AND live his life too.
Jolie came from money, but it couldn't buy the love she missed out on while growing up. Her mother was a teenage mom, and couldn't fight all the wheels put into motion at age 15. Tragic really.
The feels in here are many, the heat is awesome, and love was always just waiting to be found.
The kicker comes when Jolie and Mik are signing all the paperwork needed, and there is definitely a discrepancy among the copies of Jolie's birth certificate, her's and the state record on file. Who knew, right?
Fast forward just a bit and there's a shocker of a Happy Ending Reveal that finally gave me that happy sigh end I always crave. I've a feeling there's a more seasoned romance in the air now too.

A very enjoyable book. This book is somewhat different from your run of the mill billionaire/CEO romance stories. The protagonists are ordinary people with a lot of loss and hurt between them, giving in to their strong magnetic attraction toward one another. Jolie and Michail work together and their desires were kept at bay for a long time. There is nevertheless a point, at which things snap. My Kindle caught fire but the book is erotic, rather than smutty. Mic could become a billionaire if he wanted to, that is if he were willing to get married. Without giving the plot away, it was surprising to find that the potential to get married and leave all their financial worries aside actually tears them apart. Mic wants more and without realising it, so does Jolie. They both want love first, then marriage. The main as well as the supportive characters were well developed and described, with a very positive rapport between them with character-appropriate dialogue at the end of which there is a romantic HEA. I recommend addressing some editorial issues but I think this novel would be well received by the readership.

Jolie has a design firm, and flips apartments. Mik works for her contractor. And it's a funny story how he ends up naked in her apartment. They've both thought about being with the other, but there's that whole professional relationship thing going on. So, they agree to one night, no strings, no promises, no commitments. Until she realizes that she wants more with him. His mother's health takes a turn for the worse - she has MS - and his resources are already stretched almost to the breaking point. If he marries, he will inherit $1 billion from his grandfather's estate, money that will go a long way toward taking care of his mother. Maybe what we need is a fake marriage. This was a really nice book. Jo and MIk have scorching chemistry together. Jo thought she's never love anyone again after her fiance's death. Mik only cares about taking care of his mother, not the money. It's a heartwarming story about finding love again.

Jolie is a designer rehabbing apartments in New York City and Mik is the project manager for the construction crew. They have been working on projects together and have both felt an attraction. They decide to have a one night fling but it might turn into something more. Mik needs money to care for his sick mother and there is a billion dollar inheritance he could get if he was married. He never felt right about marrying for the money and had been living fine without it, but now his mother needed the money for her care. Jolie’s boyfriend had died 5 years ago and she thought she would never love again or marry. Would these 2 be able to escape the past and find happiness?

I enjoyed reading the story and felt the heartbreak and family love.

Falling in love when they least expected.

I found this a quick read with a happy ending for two lovers, Mik was heir to a fortune, something that would make a big difference in his mother's life. However, he would have to marry to collect, and he had no intention of marrying for anything other than love. Mik and Jolie had been working together on a project for some time. They had both attracted to each other, but neither one was prepared to make the first move. When it happened, it was explosive and sudden, ending in a night of sex neither would forget. I liked the characters in this story, Jolie and Mik had an honesty that came from the heart, there were mistakes hurt each other, but through it all, they were prepared to listen to each other and resolve their issues.

No spoilers to be found. This is a quick read launching a new series. I love that Ms. Garland's characters have a brief established relationship (albeit working relationship) before being romantically involved. Conversation flows well, humorous at times and even the conflict is realistic. Sometimes a shot of reality in my fiction wins me over more than just fantasy. I'm anxious for the future books as future characters make an appearance here (and I hope I haven't spoiled that for Ms. Garland). If done correctly, characters that drift in and out of companion books are wonderful to improve the story. Ms. Garland has done that well in the books that I have read previously.

Mik is single and has feelings for Jolie, he always intended to marry for love but he needs money to pay for his mother's health care. It's money he doesn't have but if he was to marry he would inherit a billion dollars.

Whilst working together they have both felt an attraction so decide to go on a date, just one night but it might turn into something more? When he tells her about his mother's situation and about the inheritance they come to an arrangement but will this lead to true love?

The story is well written and has some very moving parts to it.

Mik and Jolie had been dancing around their feelings for a while as they didn’t want to jeopardise their working relation. However, they didn’t seem to realise they were fated to be together. I really loved the sizzling chemistry between the Mik and Jolie, as well as the supporting characters in the story and the way they all interacted with each other. Mik and Jolie’s journey to their happy ending was filled with joy, amazing bedroom action and the revelation of secrets, that made this book a real page turner.

This Book 1 in the Lords of Gotham Series has good characters. These character were well crafted and had good chemistry. I like the character development. I love the interaction with the fellow characters. It shows that with work and trust you can build powerful relationship. The sex scenes gets steamier and more intense as the book progresses. This started as a marriage of convenience but now could it be a real marriage. The characters are realistic ~ having flaws and problems that life throws at us and more.

This was a very sweet story. Mik was the contractor remodeling the apartments Jolie was going to sell. The story moved along quickly was very enjoyable. Mik's mother was a sweetheart and Jolies mother was very much a free spirit. I felt sorry for Jolie when her brother told her the truth about her fiance that had died but she needed to hear it. This couple was made for each other and their chemistry was off the charts. I really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this book. It was sad in places and very happy with others. Just shows what life can throw at you
any time it wants. The characters really worked very well in this book.
It was one that I couldn`t put down until I had finished it.
I didn`t find any spelling mistakes or any holes in the plot at all.
I could really connect with the characters and the story as well.
I will definitely be reading more books by this author.

Reluctant Billionaire is the first book in the Lords of Gotham series and is a great start to this new series.

This short story has great characters in Mik and Jolie and I liked that they had something of a relationship considering a marriage of convenience. The storyline is well written and flows nicely from beginning to end. Will this fake marriage become a real one or will Jolie's secret destroy any chance they have for happiness?

I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Expecting to see him on Monday on the job site, she finds out he went to Mexico with his girlfriend. Mik is just like all the rest of the men out there. Knowing love is not in the cards for her anymore, she plans to concentrate on work

This book was just great! A true marvel of a read with all the right feels: a sizzling attraction, a one-night-stand with no contact afterwards, a heart seemingly closed to love after a tragic loss, archaic inheritance conditions, two very talented & successful people dealt a bad hand of fate, a marriage of convenience and so so much love & care. My only complaint is that I was left with questions about Jolie's father in the end and really want the answers ASAP.

This book is a fake marriage romance featuring Mik, a contractor who is heir to a billion dollar inheritance but must be married, and Josie, a designer who is deep in debt. A fake marriage is the perfect solution for both of them as Mik needs the money for treatment of his mother for her MS. I recommend this well written book by Deborah Garland with its heartfelt characters and a plot with sizzling chemistry and romance.

This is the story of Jolie and Mik. He needs a wife to inherit a billion dollars but he’s not looking to buy one. Meeting Jolie is the perfect solution. She’s a designer and needs money to pay off her debts and he needs a wife to get his inheritance to care for his sick mom. What starts out as a fake relationship always tends to become a real relationship. A great story of said relationship between Mik and Jolie. Mik has to be married to receive his inheritance and Jolie has a boat load of debt. It's the perfect arrangement for both. The story line is well written and the characters are fantastic!

mik runs an architect firm and is heir to a Costa Rican fortune and must marry to collect his inheritance , jolie runs a designer firm and is in deeply in-debt. Mik offers a compromise if they get married they can spilt the money and mik can help his mother and jolie can help with her designer firm, but what happens when love is in is involved.. This was a great story and I highly recommend it

The author has given us characters that we can care about. The story pulls you into their lives with lust/love, heartbreak, anger and fear. Both Mikhail and Jolie have personal issues but hopefully they will be able to overcome them and get their happily ever after.

Nothing is going to push anyone to do something they never planned to do like someone in your family suffering. This causes the couple to make decisions that they were not totally ready to make. But it all works out for them in the end no matter what is thrown at them.
