Friends to lovers romance goes West with a kick of action and adventure.
I have to say, this one was predictable for me, but it's the reading journey and how much you enjoyed getting there that matters in the end. Josiah is just as alpha as the rest of the WEST men, only his opposite is a no-nonsense FBI Agent named Rayna Quinn. Josiah's vulnerability even in his alpha world made the story so much more believable. Loved having the full western experience in this book as well as the drama and romance.

The fifth book in the series brings Rayna and Josiah's story. The author once again brings strong characters with a sizzling hot chemistry and weaves a story filled with danger and surprise. She does a great job building the tension and pulled me into the story and kept me reading to the end. I enjoyed reading their story.

Great story. Excellent writing. Interesting background, underlying story and setting. I live the rodeo. I love Josiah. It takes Rayna a while to catch up. I love this series. I love this book. There is great chemistry, attraction and true affection.

Josiah is comfortable on this family's ranch and being part of West protection. When he finds out that the woman he's had a thing for is in danger he will do everything it takes to watch her back. Which is why his Rodeo days are no longer in the past. This is a fast paced, intense read that has such an unexpected ending. Love the book and series.

Protected by the Cowboy is Book #5 in the WEST Protection Series by author Em Petrova.
Rayna Quinn is a FBI agent fighting to prove herself in a career dominated by men. After being passed over for jobs multiple times, she finally gets her chance to go undercover working to bust a meth ring inside the rodeo circuit. Being a city girl, she knows nothing about the rodeo. Luckily her new best friend Josiah Wynton just happens to live and breathe all things rodeo being that he's a retired bronc rider.
Assigned to guard Rayna by pretending to be her boyfriend on the rodeo circuit while she investigates a drug trafficking ring is Josiah's idea of both heaven and hell. The sights, the smells, bronc riding-- he's missed the rodeo life since he retired. He loves this life! Now if only the woman he was protecting could see that the man who has her back would love nothing more than to have her under him all day, every day for the rest of his life. He has been infatuated with Rayna for over a year now since he met her on an op. If only she would see him for the man that he is-- the man who loves her-- instead of constantly placing him in the friend zone.
As danger runs high and passions ignite, will Rayna finally lower her guard enough to see what is directly in front of her face? Or will she put career first and miss out entirely on true love? You will need to read this exciting adventure to find out.
This book is a non-stop adrenaline rush from start to finish, filled with likeable characters, an intriguing plot and dang fine cowboys with 6 pack abs and tight tush Wranglers. There is no other way I would want to spend my weekend than curled up devouring this book. 1-click buy today!
“Protected by the Cowboy” is the 5th book in the ‘WEST Protection’ series by Em Petrova. They are each interconnected standalone stories. The lead characters in this book are FBI agent Rayna and Josiah, a bodyguard/rancher.
Since they met and worked together on a case in a previous book of the series, Josiah can’t stop thinking about Rayna. She’s everything he never knew he wanted in a girlfriend - or as more than a girlfriend, But as an intensely focused career woman, she has placed him firmly in the friend zone. Despite his disappointment and frustration about that, he has no hesitation at all about being her bodyguard as she infiltrates the rodeo circuit to find and break up a criminal drug ring. Pretending to be lovers and close proximity combine to heat the attraction between them to the boiling point.
This is a romance novel, so we can expect all will end well, but the journey to get there is so much fun! There is some interesting role reversal between Rayna and Josiah, I appreciated how much he appreciated the skills and talents she had that might intimidate other men. I thought the ending was suitably exciting and fit the story well. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series

I love a book with a sexy alpha hero but I also love one that includes a sexy, smart heroine as well. This book gives us two strong main characters for double the enjoyment along with witty dialogue, characters with depth, and an engaging storyline. This is the fifth book in the WEST Protection series and it has a little bit of everything you’d expect from romantic suspense - sweet moments, fan your face steam, dangerous action, strong family and friendships, Uber protective men, and even a few chuckles. Josiah is one of the partners at WEST Protection who was taking a break between field assignments but he agrees immediately when he’s called to protect a friend he’s been secretly pining for. Rayna is an FBI agent frustrated with her lack of career progress. She’s determined to succeed when she’s assigned an undercover op at the rodeo after the original agent is killed. She requests her friend, Josiah, to guard her since he can also blend in as a competitor in the rodeo. As they work together to investigate the drug trafficking, Rayna’s feelings for Josiah continue to grow. But turning stolen kisses into forever is difficult. The story fell apart toward the end of the book and the ending felt rushed making this only 3.5 stars. This was my least favorite book in a really good series.
FBI agent Rayna is assigned to a drug case that's moving across several states on the rodeo circuit. After the last agent on the case was killed, she knows she needs backup, and her friend, Josiah, a former rodeo star who is now a professional bodyguard, is the perfect man for the job.
As soon as he realizes that Rayna's life is in danger, Josiah doesn't hesitate to take on the assignment. Protecting her is his top priority, but protecting his heart in the friendzone is just as important. Rayna has made it clear that friends is all they'll ever be, though their cover story just might end up changing her mind. Rayna and Josiah work really well together, especially when they're butting heads, and I enjoyed every bit of their love story.
This was a terrific story, filled with sexy cowboys, rodeo camaraderie, intense action and suspense, and white-hot love scenes. The characters are well-developed and the investigation is perfectly paced, all the way to the nail-biting climax and super sweet HEA.
This author knows cowboys, and this just might be the best book in the series because of it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Josiah Is definitely swoon-worthy. Tall, muscled and a trained bodyguard, protector is both his job and his vocation. He is also a man who knows what he wants, and he wants a future with Rayna, a tough, career-oriented FBI agent who has put him firmly in the friend zone. When Rayna gets assigned to a case that is investigating a drug trafficking ring attached to the rodeo circuit, she knows who to call for help. Josiah is a retired bronc riding champion with ties to the circuit. He can help her fit right in and also provide cover and protection for Rayna during their investigation. Sharing a trailer sure turns up the heat between them, and soon neither is thinking about the friend zone. Investigating people who he has traveled the circuit with before is sticky and unsettling for Josiah, but he trusts Rayna and vows to keep her from ending up like the last agent…dead. As it becomes clear that someone knows about their investigation, talking about their feelings and where they each see things going in the future increases the tensions between Rayna and Josiah. Can they resolve the case and forge a future together or will their relationship be done when the investigation ends?

'Protected by the Cowboy' by Em Petrova is fifth book in her West Protection series and tells the story between Josiah Wynton, who is a partner at West Protection, and Rayna Quinn, who is an FBI agent. They met on a previous case when they worked together and Josiah had the byproduct of falling love with Rayna but she put him firmly in the friend zone.
Rayna has been working on a drug case in which her partner was killed. The case lead to the rodeo circuit and as a city girl, Rayna knows nothing about the rodeo. Luckily, she has a friend who does. Josiah is a retired bronco rider and knows all things rodeo. When Rayna calls for his help and expertise Josiah jumps at the chance to work with her and hopefully get out of the friend zone.
Ms. Petrova has written a dynamic addition to her series. From the first page the chemistry between Josiah and Rayna is apparent. I liked how Josiah jumped at the opportunity to come out of retirement and competed again. ride broncs again. This book is full of suspense, laughs, drama, romance, great characters, and lots of heat. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes a little bit of cowboy swagger with their HEA.

Rayna gets the chance to go undercover in a big drug investigation and she asks her friend Josiah to be her backup and cover. Josiah was a successful rodeo bronc rider before retiring to work for his family’s security business.
Josiah looks forward to working with the woman he fell in love with a year ago, and he is hoping to get out of the ‘friend zone’ she has him stuck in.
The case is interesting as Rayna, a city dweller, gets to experience the rodeo circuit up close and personal as the girlfriend of a popular and successful rodeo rider. Rayna is temptation galore for Josiah as she pretends to be his girlfriend traveling the rodeo circuit with him and living in the very small trailer he is pulling. The heat between these two quickly ignited into some save a horse ride a cowboy action.
Josiah and Rayna have the case to solve and they have to figure out if this is the real thing or just an undercover fling.
It was an entertaining and enjoyable read. I’ve read other books in the series, but this book can easily be read as a standalone.

This book had a more Western/investigative feel to it. Josiah has been hiding his feelings for Rayna for over a year, stuck in the friend zone, so when she needs his help on an investigation he leaps at the chance to be there for her. He comes out of retirement as a bronc rider and she poses as his boyfriend to investigate the rodeo circuit. I spent a lot of this book annoyed with Rayna because she just didn’t understand the depth of Josiah’s feelings for her. She kept brushing him off and it created a rift between the two. I really felt for Josiah, who was convinced he would be walking away from this investigation with a broken heart. There wasn’t as much action or suspense in this book and I figured out the culprit of the drug ring pretty quickly, although there were still a few twists in the end.
Overall, this was a good read. I liked the shift back to the rodeo scene where Ross’ idea for WEST Protection began. I also liked the glimpse into Josiah’s past as the Bronc King. This book had plenty of heat, a little mystery and a lot of hot Cowboy intrigue.
I enjoyed reading about all the characters in this book, even the less likable ones. Although I wasn't sure of quite how they were involved in the crime (primary or secondary culprits), it was fairly obvious WHO was involved in the crime. I didn't feel that having that knowledge or suspicion took anything from the story.
Josiah and Rayna had great chemistry. I liked the way the characters interacted. I appreciated Josiah's respect for both Rayna's job, as well as her experience. I can't say that Rayna seemed to have the same respect for Josiah's job or experience, either as a bodyguard or having knowledge of the rodeo circuit.
I knew Josiah and Rayna would get their HEA. I just had no idea what it would cost them to get there.
The book had a good amount of action, danger, and some suspense. The romance was frustrating, sweet, and sexy. I like the family involvement, the support, the love, the loyalty from the WEST group. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is Josiah and Rayna's story, it can be read enjoyed as a standalone, but the previous characters are reintroduced this book since Josiah is part of WEST Protection. They met 12 months age when he helped her in a previous operation, now she needs and wants him to be her bodyguard/protector in this new mission. Rayna is trying to bring down a drug trafficking operation, operating on the rodeo circuit and also to discover who killed the undercover FBI agent whose case she has just been given! He’s there to watch her back by being in a fake relationship but how long will that last? Will they discover the criminals responsible? Terrific read.

Rayna Quinn is an FBI agent who gets assigned to work on a drug trafficking ring case inside the rodeo circuit after her co-worker is killed on the same case. She is career focused and stubborn.
Josiah Wynton is a former rodeo star and is acting as a bodyguard while masquerading as her boyfriend. They worked on a previous case together. He is in love with Rayna but she friend zoned him. He takes advantage of his boyfriend status to try to get out of the friend zone. He is very protective of her.
They travel the rodeo circuit with Josiah competing as a bronc rider trying to solve the case. His cousin Landon is also there for backup to watch over Rayna during the competitions. They have a bit of a rocky relationship but manage to get their HEA and solve the case.

A great series to read. This journey had all the right makings. A good book to read and I liked the storyline well enough. Included enough of today's realities to make it believable for me, to a point. The execution seemed hurried and scattered in places. Josiah's character was pretty awesome, he was well liked and received back into the rodeo world like he'd never retired. He just fit! Rayna, however, just didn't do it for me. I didn't mesh with her character very well. She was always wanting to rush in, be tough and obviously blow her cover from day one, almost like an eager pup, out to prove herself. A good story to read but I didn't find the depth I would've liked for an undercover operation. Josiah loved Rayna and I felt that in the pages, I did not feel Rayna's love in return, almost like an afterthought. The heat was still smokin'!
Josiah Wynton was assigned a job from WEST Security for a woman he fell for on a previous operation, Rayna Quinn. She was an FBI agent who got an assignment to find and take down a methamphetamine operation which operated through the rodeo circuit. The problem was Josiah fell hook, line and sinker for the feisty FBI agent about a year ago, but she put him firmly in the friend category...but as former rodeo bronc champion, Josiah was the logical choice to provide backup for his ward and could stage a comeback to bring he and Rayna into the rodeo's close-knit group...but will close quarters in a camper trailer lead to a more romantic relationship as Josiah is hoping, or will Jayna slam him back into friend zone forever...I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
You will devour the pages of this fast paced, action packed, suspenseful read. Rayna and Josiah have scorching hot chemistry together once they give into their feelings. This was well written and draws you into the storyline right along with the characters.
Rayna is an FBI agent who is undercover in the rodeo circuit trying to find the people trafficking meth. She has been trying to prove herself to her boss and was surprised when he told her she was going on this undercover assignment. Rayna is sassy, strong, smart and determined but never realized Josiah wanted to me more than just friends.
Josiah helped found WEST Protection Security Company on the Wynton Ranch. He quit the rodeo circuit two years ago but is back helping Rayna find information on the drug ring and watching out for her.

This is the fifth book in the WEST Protection series. It's Josiah and Rayna's story and it can be enjoyed as a standalone, but you will see previous characters in this book since Josiah is part of WEST Protection. Josiah and Rayna's story is a steamy friends to lovers romantic suspense. Josiah has been in love with Rayna for a year, but he's been firmly put into the friend zone. Rayna is trying to bust up a drug trafficking ring and find out who killed the FBI agent that was undercover working the case before her. He’s been hired to watch her back and keep her safe but being in a fake relationship really takes a toll. I was so pleased to discover that the WEST protection series is so much more than another cowboy coupling up series
while there are western themes or elements, like the dirty deeds linked to the rodeo circuit in this book, or a country singer in a previous book, the action and suspense elements are unique to Em Petrova stories
These stories feature strong female characters that are more than cardboard cutouts, and men who are smart enough to appreciate their acumen and skills, even if they do not always handle or approach them in ways likely to yield the results they want..
A butt kicking FBI agent who needs a friend to cover her back is an intriguing subject, and some fun sparks in this friends to lovers romance

This is Book 5 in the WEST Protection series and each book in this series gets better. Rayna is an FBI agent who needs to go undercover to break up a meth ring in a rodeo circuit and requests Josiah Wynton to be her bodyguard. Josiah is a retired Bronco tinder who comes out of retirement to protect Rayna.
This book is full of tension, suspense, danger, and trauma. The chemistry between Rayna and Josiah is undeniable but Rayna is too caught up in her career to really notice until it is just about too late. This book was impossible for me to put down and I highly recommend this book. What a great addition to the wonderful series.

Protected by the Cowboy is the fifth book in Em Petrova’s WEST Protection series and while the storyline was a little predictable, it still provided an intriguing and entertaining escape. Danger, suspense, and intense attraction are all front and centre as Josiah Wynton finds himself thrust back into the action-packed arena of Rodeo riding while providing protection and back up for a sexy FBI agent tasked with unearthing a drug ring hidden within this adrenaline infused sport. A well-paced and easy to follow plot and characters who must find themselves while seeking the criminals. A thoroughly enjoyable read and a worthy addition to the series.

While the overall storyline may be somewhat predictable, you won't want to miss reading this book. When Rayna gets put on the biggest case so far in her career, she knows she will someone to have her six. And who better than Josiah Wynton, with whom she has built a friendly relationship over the past year and who she totally trusts. Josiah only has one issue with the situation, his having been friend zoned by Rayna. I loved the fact that much of this story takes place during a rodeo with Josiah coming out of retirement to ride broncs again. And while there were many side characters, it was easy to keep up their part in the story. The humor was great and the sexual tension between Josiah and Rayna was very intense and off the charts.
If you have been following this series then you have already met Josiah a former rodeo star who is now a bodyguard with WEST protection and Rayna a FBI agent From the first Josiah has known that he wants Rayna but she is a deeply driven woman trying to prove herself in a man world When she is given a case to break a drug ring where the former agent was killed she knows she needs back up and seeing the case is on the rodeo circuit she knows the perfect man to ask As they spend more time together Josiah knows he is meant for her and she needs to be permanently in his life but first he has to keep her safe and then convince her he is the one for her. Be ready for a thrill ride with plenty of western background but also plenty of suspense and drama
Rayna has been fighting to prove herself in the male dominated field of the FBI. She met Josiah on a previous operation, he’s retired from the rodeo circuit and is the perfect person to be her bodyguard/boyfriend when she goes undercover to investigate a meth ring in the rodeo. The mission is both heaven and hell for him. He misses the rodeo circuit since retirement and he also has feelings for his new partner who has him firmly in the friend zone. As they continue with the mission, will Rayna finally see Josiah has feelings for her or continue to focus on her career? Josiah learns a lot more about Rayna and has a renewed respect for her abilities and skills. Another great read in the series!!
I love the WEST Protection series and the men who protect the women they fall for. This is Josiah and Rayna’s story and it’s filled with action, suspense, friends with benefits, drug trafficking in the rodeo, and plenty of hot chemistry. Rayna, an FBI agent is given the undercover case when the initial agent is found dead. She wants Josiah to be her bodyguard because he knows the rodeo scene and they worked together before on a case. They were good friends. What she didn’t know was that Josiah was in love with her and had been pining for her for a year. An exciting and captivating storyline and characters that stole your heart. Another awesome addition to this series.

Josiah Wynton of WEST Protection Agency goes back on the rodeo circuit as a bodyguard with FBI Agent, Rayna Quinn in search of who was distributing meth through the circuit. Josiah was already in love with Rayna from a previous case they had handled together, but she had put him firmly in the friend zone. She had no idea how hard it was going to be resist Josiah's good looks, with his cowboy hard body in the close quarters of the travel trailer, they were living in while undercover. A very high energy, with lots of action story that will keep you guessing until the end as Josiah does not want to believe any of the rodeo people could be involved. You do not want to miss this one.

Protected by the Cowboy is the fifth book in the WEST Protection series and hold on tight or this one will buck you off. The story is a great mix of action, drama, friends, one career driven FBI agent, one "sex-on-a-stick" cowboy, a drug ring and a lot of bucking broncs. Rayna and Josiah are wonderful characters who are well written and both kept me rooting for their HEA, if they survive that is.
I really enjoyed this book and had a great time reading it. The story-line kept me engaging and wondering what would happen next. The characters were lovable and what you would want as great friends. This is another great story in this excellent series.

The 5th book in the WEST series is taking us into the world of cowboys and rodeos. Anyone who's ever been to one will be transported back to the heat, the dust, the adrenaline in the air - and the rest will want to go! While I had my suspisions about the bad guys early one, there are enough twists and turns to keep things interesting on the suspense front while the romance between Josiah and Rayna starts to develop. A great couple with lots of heat between them and a well-deserved happy end!

OK. Maybe that's a bit of a spoiler, but I think everyone really expects it to happen. I loved how Rayna was so determined to prove herself in the man-dominated profession and how Josiah was so determined to protect her even if she continued to "friend zone" him. I can't say I was surprised at who the true villains turned out to be but didn't expect the reaction from one of the other suspects. I am enjoying this series very much and can't wait for the next book to come out.
