3.5/5

Overall I thought this was lovely, especially the first/main story. The writing was lyrical and the art was well drawn. I didn't love the second and third stories as much as the first, but they were still nice enough and worth a perusal. I will say that there is a sex scene in the first story where the art for one of the characters looks ridiculously young. It's only one scene but it's so jarring, it made me very uncomfortable. Regardless, I'll probably reread this if I'm in the mood for something a bit more poetic and quiet.

There's nothing more romantic and angsty than a story that begins with a drop of blood on pure white snow. This manga really reminds me of Swordspoint!

3.5 somewhat hesitantly rounded up. This was... okay. I like the art, but the prose was...uh, a little too... I'm not even sure what to call it. Not flowery. But almost like it was trying to be more dramatic than it was? Or... man, I don't really know what I'm trying to say. But it didn't... flow super well, the writing.

This is a few short stories rather than one big story. "Crimson Snow," which is three parts, and then two short stories (single chapters), and then what's basically an epilogue for "Crimson Snow." Which was excellent because I hadn't been thrilled with how "Crimson Snow" ended. So yay for that!

"Cry for the Sun," the third story, is a little weird... It's basically about a guy who falls in love with his dad's ex boyfriend, after his dad has died. There's some... amnesia? Sort of. Also... one of the characters is apparently magical? For like a page. All around really strange.

But the main story I liked a lot! I wish it had been longer. And overall, I enjoyed the book!

Thought this was a single volume story, not a volume with one-shot story chapters. The main story of Crimson Snow was well drawn but seemed a bit rushed, I think it deserved the full volume and not 3 chapters with another chapter as an epilogue. The other one-shot stories were kinda meh, the plots jarred me out of the enjoyment of the main story.

There are three stories in this collection, each containing one love scene. All of them are beautifully drawn and dripping with angst but have happy endings. This is definitely high on my list of favorite yaoi manga!

The first story is about a member of the yakuza. The mob boss was like a father to him, and when the boss is murdered, he takes vengeance on the man responsible. Wounded himself, he collapses in the snow. He nearly dies, but is rescued by a beautiful young man who is inexplicably drawn to him and wants to protect him. The police come looking for the former yakuza but the boy has fallen in love with him and lies to protect him. Seeing his goodness, the yakuza falls in love with the boy as well, and knows the right thing to do is turn himself in for all the wrong things he's done in his life. Once he has repaid his debt to society, he promises to come back to the boy (and does).

The second story is about two college students, one a shy nerd and the other a popular beauty. They are secretly in love with each other but nervous to confess until fate brings them together. The moment they have a chance to be alone, their confessions come spilling out!

The third story was weird and not my favorite thing, but the others were amazing so I'm still giving it 5 stars total. Two men are lovers, but one ends their relationship because his priority in life is to start a family. So he marries and has a child. The ex-boyfriend continues to be a close family friend, but his heart is broken and in a fit of passion he tries to murder the child. He fails and the family forbids him from ever coming near them again. They use magic to block the boy's memories of the incident. Years go by and when the child's father dies, he recognizes his father's former lover, who also knows magic, at the cemetery. As a child he had secretly been in love with his father's boyfriend; and...again, not to my liking...the man had also had "feelings" for the little boy. And I mean LITTLE boy. Nothing ever happens between them until they reunite as adults and confess their attraction but it was still bordering on shota, just FYI.

I usually don't like oneshot collections but I enjoyed the themes in these stories because they were outside the norm and dealt with completely different situations rather then a set of the same theme. I did find some translation issues slightly annoying (for instance, using the term gangster for the yakuza which is very bad IMO).

The main story deals with the life of a yakuza and how he deals with a bad decision and how he finds salvation. The uke is very typical but gives off a strong inner strength and the seme has a tone of weakness which makes him more appealing.

People are thrust into unfamiliar situations and surprises and romance are the result. Emotional affection and illicit lust can take odd turns between the most unlikely of people and the various stories here are adept at playing on this eternal conundrum about opposites attracting.

The illustrations have a bit of the sameness that you come to expect in manga, with little to distinguish it from other yaoi of its type. The men, younger and older, are handsome without tending towards either waiflike bishounen or beefy bara types. The sex is passionate but without the edgy, molten intensity that might be found in other books. It is, all in all, a workmanlike entry into yaoi fiction.

The main story had a nice balance of emotion and passion. I'm new to this artist, but I liked her style it's a little heavier in linework than a lot of whispy shoujo but it works for the story. The other two stories have then build up of angst and emotion, but I like that it gives the couple more depth to me. It's also nice to consenting even assertive ukes once in while too.

The three stars are for the main story which was quite good - it's about an injured Yakuza who is taken in by a young tea ceremony master. The other stories weren't my thing at all, and all the ukes looked too young for my liking (which is the main reason the first story only gets three stars - because the story itself was really good).

This was so beautiful and sensual. The drama was so subtly wavered into the story and the characters were so honest.
I don't even have the words to describe what a beautiful piece of art and fiction this is. It more than deserves its 5 start...

finally read the two side stories after procrastinating on them for like 8 years lmao. only the title story is worth it though, i enjoyed it just like the first time. kazuma has a place in my heart (also, he's the only one of the main characters with an interesting design).

Beautiful and sensual. Very heavy heartbreak at one point. Until I finally read the last chapter, tears of joy! I love a happy ending.
