I’m having the definition of a bad year.

Game Six loss costing my team the Cup? Check.
Getting arrested and ruining my image? Check.
Almost getting run over after my car breaks down? Oh, look—a hat trick.

My contract is up with the Carolina Comets this year, and I need to get it together if I want to stay with the team.

I need relaxation, not a relationship.

But when I’m scrolling on a dating app and stumble across the pretty girl who almost ran me over, I know I can’t let her walk away this time.

Harper is funny, smart, and doesn’t care about hockey.

I’m not supposed to be focusing on anything other than my career, yet I can’t get Harper off my mind.

I know I shouldn’t fall for her…but I think I already have.

PUCK SHY is a standalone hockey romantic comedy. It's good, low angst fun with some hot hockey players.

Hockey Hotties!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💛🖤🤍💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📒
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 🧍🏼‍♂️🧍🏽🧍🏼‍♀️🧍🏻‍♀️🧍🏻‍♂️

The heroine: Harper - she is an artist with a love of horror movies, so she put those two loves together to create a specialty business creating horror dolls. She does dolls from movies, zombie dolls and the like and her sales have been growing.

The Hero(es): Collin - an NHL hockey player for the Carolina Comets. Collin got a penalty that set the stage for them losing the Stanley Cup last year. Though it was found later to be a bad call by the ref, Collin still feels like he let the team down and some of his teammates feel the the same. All the pressure from that loss and everything else that seems to have gone wrong in the off season is getting into his head and now that he is back on the ice he is playing badly.

The Story: Harper is on her way home after a weekend with her Mom and attending the engagement party for her sister. When she is fooling around with the sound system in her car and nearly runs in to Collin after his truck breaks down on his way home after visiting his parents in Kansas.

This was a very good sports romance and was heavy on the romance. I liked that and I liked the inner struggles going on with both of the main characters. Collin wasn’t the traditional cocky player on and off the ice. Though he was self-assured and very manly, he was also vulnerable.

The same could be said for Harper. She was definitely a strong female character, but she has her own hang ups left from her childhood. I really enjoyed the witty banter between the two main characters as well as the humor throughout the book, which is pretty standard for Teagan Hunter books. Harper didn’t like sports at first, but started to come around after her first live Hockey game.

“There’s something exhilarating about hearing the bodies crash against the boards. Something so thrilling about hearing the puck ping off the crossbar. And watching the players glide down the ice effortlessly like they aren’t playing a high-speed game on frozen water with knives attached to their feet? It’s intoxicating.

Zach and Delia from Let’s Get Textual make a few appearances and if you are a fan of the texting series you will know who they are as soon as they appear based on what Zack is wearing. It made me want to go back and re-read that series. Also both Harper and Collin have best friends with their own issues and a pretty contentious relationship already even though they only met a few times. I suspect they will be the main characters in the next book and I can’t wait for that!

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

The plot of this book was not even that bad but the writing was so bad.

Let me explain: basically the sentences felt very choppy and at points the book was so fast and then again so slow. It was hard to read because the choppy writing made me have to take so many breaks.

On top of that I also just found the plot line of the "hidden" identity a bit bad. Not even halfway through the book it was solved which meant the rest of the book just didn't have a plot line and since that wasn't the break up I knew there was going to be a third act break up that was going to make no sense.
and guess what? it made no sense.

RATING: 3.5/4 stars to Puck Shy! ★ ★ ★ ★

A fresh series of sexy sportsmen, lighthearted standalone romantic pairings, fun railery, the continued thread of 'textual' interrelations, and Puck Shy becomes a continuation of Hunter's familiar favouritism for rom com fiction. I very much enjoyed myself yet again. The series beginner opens up with poor Collin riding a law well written by Murphy. He's agonising over the fallout of his latest hockey season, regretful over letting his teammates down and surfacing from a summer break for some instructed downtime. Remaining under the radar while the hot topic of his transgressions simmers down and Colin's still in the meddling arm of bad luck. But he's determined to recover his efforts for a fresh season, has his eye on only the prize as he's familiar with the takers that often arrive in the form of women once they scent a man with pro league in his title. He's on his best behaviour, eager to see himself play the best of himself for the Comets. He needs to bring his A-game to the ice and the mind game to the sport, lest he be forever anguished by the sound of next season's contract being torn in two right in front of him. Ouchies.

But a series of unfortunate events has him stranded sans car, sans phone and sans luck. Murphy's Law has indeed procured another target; this one big, NHL sized, is in big trouble where his career with the Comets is concerned and is soaking up his misery like a man who can't catch a break. His run of luck has fizzled out and he's nobody's favourite person right now. On a dead section of country road, with darkness swiftly falling, his resolve is yet again put to the test when an irresponsible driver nearly knocks him clean off his feet. A deeply frustrated man can only take so much, but said perilous driver also happens to be his knight in shining Harper. He's furious he just about dodged another catastrophe. She's terrified that he could be a ghost of nocturnal legend, so she says. But after some reluctance, stranger-danger mistrust, nighttime paranoia and a boot full of horror-themed paraphernalia, she saves him from the longest night he might've had in a while. A road trip, lots of chat, horror film debates, an almost car accident, an-almost kiss later and they part ways amicably. And Harper's still none the wiser of her stranger's hockey star athlete status. Just as Colin likes it.

I've read Teagan Hunter's Let's Get Textual from her widely favoured Texting series. I've also indulged Cheesy on the Eyes, #5 In her the Slice series, both of which made for intensely fun and funny reading. Hunter's romantic comedies make for humorous, enjoyable and easy consumption, and I found the experience repeating itself with the opener to her latest series. And let's just say that I grinned at the recognition of Let's Get Textual's cameo in the form of Zach and Delia. I couldn't help myself but smile when the two made their - also two - appearances. I will say that I didn't enjoy Shepherd's cameo however. For those familiar with the Texting series, he's the somewhat-antagonist in Let's Get Textual who commits petty revenge by way of a personal - and impactful - offense that I still feel wasn't securely put to bed. I found him to be unredeemable, and it's fair to say that I had no intention of reading his book. Colter reminds me of another variation of Shepherd, perhaps every series has to have one. But that aside, we have the kind of light romance you can expect from the author, one which graces the pages of this book with her rom-com charisma. Since I found Harper's artistic passion to be a really fun texture, I was disappointed that the story didn't detail her artistic endeavours to great length. It's worth pointing out that the romance is on the lighter side of a romantic connection, perhaps overlooking missed opportunities. But I still declare that I enjoyed my time within the pages of this book.

Teagan Hunter's romantic comedies are the equivalent to comical, comforting, low-angst, banter-some repose reads for me. They're not complex, complicated nor emotionally challenging and I do love them for it. The author enjoys the engageable art of light entertainment and fun humour and I'm happy to say that I enjoy romance that can accomplish that. In the land of rom com her books always promise a great time. Snappy banter, fun dialogue, colourful elements, a sportsman who just can't get his head in the game to his own detriment and an independent artist who puts the happy in horror. And of course, complete with characters prone to food-serious hunger spikes and a win-him-over (very public) 'I'm sorry' and this easily settled itself among my row of Hunter favourites.

Extra Thoughts:

1) I do personally find that male leads (far too often) fall into the category of hypocrisy rather easily in regards to their beliefs surrounding women. The nuance really counts. I really liked Colin overall, but I wasn't keen on the double standard he introduced in once - gluttonously I'm sure - thrilling in the female attention of every puck bunny he enjoyed during his early hockey days and now guarding against the agendas of other women because all they might find greater interest in is how much he banks and his name in the realm of sport next to who he is. It took often supports the idea that women are fine and fit for a purpose when it suits the MMC's needs but they also shouldn't be trusted because of that. I don't admittedly enjoy the take. I did feel that his not quite being trustworthy himself was decently handled to an extent because he seemed to have an awareness of it and felt the effects of the duplicity. But like I said, I enjoyed Collin as a male protagonist and thoroughly enjoyed his relationship with Harper. He was more than likeable and readable :)

Content Warning/Listing: Swearing. Mentions the death of a parent. Mentions infidelity within a parent's marriage. Parent death. Mentions a pivotal side character (friend to the hero) who sports a facial disfigurement. Mentions the past homophobic assault of someone. Mentions the abandonment of a dog (who finds a happy ending in a shelter). On ice brawling.

İliklerime kadar Hokey dozu aldım. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Bu kitapta sizi bekleyen şeyler ;
🏒Bebek gibi seven erkek karakter ✔️
🏒Komik ve inanılmaz ilk tanışma ✔️
🏒Ruh eşi olduklarını kanıtlayan ikinci karşılaşma ✔️
🏒Nefes kesen smut ✔️❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

İlişkileri ilk andan itibaren arkadaş gibi başlayıp flört etmeye oradan birbirlerini tanıyıp aşık oldukları noktaya doğru ilerledi. Ben böyle daha çok seviyorum kitaplarda. Bu şekilde aşkları daha çok geçiyor bana.
Collin gerçek mi cidden ??? Yani böyle güzel sevmek olur mu be adam 🫠❤️‍🔥. Harper zaten aşırı sevimliydi. Kendi kendine içinden düşündüğünü sandığı yerlerde dışından düşünmesi, minnacık olmasına rağmen korku dolu her şeye bayılması.😸
Kitabın her saniyesinden inanılmaz keyif aldım.

Zaten her seferinde sen benim uğurumsun diye geziyor ortalıkta.🩷
Harper'in da kendi içinde yaşadığı karmaşayı anlayabiliyorum.

Ve Rhodes ben seni çok merak ediyorum. Aşırı grumpy ve Ryan tam bir sunshine. Veee sahte evlilik mi? 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
Acil bu kitabı fırlatın üstüme. 🩵🩵

RS kurtarıcı bir kitap bence. Özellikle bu döneminizdeyseniz koşarak alın.

"You know, I think a part of me started falling for you the first time we met."

If you're looking for a fast paced hockey romance Puck Shy is perfect for you!

The book follows Colin a NHL hockey player and Harper an artist. They meet when Colin's care breaks down and Harper nearly runs him over (the cutest way to meet someone ahaha). Harper gives him a ride and then they part ways without exchanging any information. A few weeks later they match on a dating website. But Harper doesn't know he is a famous hockey player, could that ruin what they have?

The romance was so cute and I adore books that have texting. They are complete opposites but they are a perfect match for each other. The chemistry between Harper and Colin from the start and I loved reading their story!

Just okay. Nothing too angsty or special. I was bored up until around 40%, and then after that it wasn't too bad, but none of the characters popped out to me. I didn't mind the hero, and the heroine was eh. I cringed everytime she said something embarrassing. I loved this author's Slice series, so it's a bit disappointing that I didn't feel the chemistry here like I did in those books. Overall, just an okay book and I'm not completely sure if I will continue on with this series or not.

Safety: Safe

No cheating/sharing

No ow/om drama

Both are only with each other after meeting

Just a few little details of the hero's sex past, such as he used to be a manh*e when he was a rookie, but isn't anymore and it's been awhile since he's slept with anyone. And it has been a year since heroine has slept with anyone

Puck Shy is a friends to lovers that is a quick read. Their romance is super cute. Plus hockey guys just make every story better ok.

Collin was driving back to Carolina when his truck broke down in the middle of nowhere. Harper helps him by offering him a ride. After the many hours spend driving back home, they say goodbye and never exchanged numbers. They quickly regret that after that car ride start something special. But both their friends want them to get onto a dating app and quickly find each other on the app. However she doesn’t know that she actually talking to Collin. Although Collin already knows it’s her.

È iniziato tutto in quella macchina condivisa.

A quei balli sognanti. Protetta. A casa.

Ero destinata a questa serie quanto Colin era destinato all’hockey.

3.5 stars! Puck Shy is the first book in Teagan Hunter’s Carolina Comets series, which is a contemporary, hockey romance series! I’ve been living for the recent hockey romance releases and wanted to dive into this series since it has a new one releasing later this month. I had read a few different Teagan Hunter series a few years ago so it was fun to check out her recent releases.

Collin is a NHL player and at the beginning of the story his car breaks down while he’s on his way back to North Carolina. This is when he meets the heroine Harper, she’s driving by and sees him walking on his own (he says she almost hit him 😅). She ends up offering him a ride and they carpool back together since they’re going to the same place. During their impromptu road trip back together they end up chatting and hitting it off. He thinks it’s cool she’s into horror films and even makes dolls based on classic horror characters. When he finds out she’s anti-sports, he doesn’t tell her he’s a hockey player and she doesn’t seem to realize who he is anyways.

Once they make it back to the city they go their separate ways but both can’t stop thinking about one another. Later on he can’t believe his luck when he sees her profile on a dating app and they match! Of course she doesn’t realize who he is but they become pen pals of sorts, before eventually meeting and her finding out not only is he the guy she picked up her car but he’s also a famous hockey player!

This was cute, low angst, and just fun. Which I feel like is true for all the books I’ve read from this author in the past too. This was a relatively shorter romance as well (330ish pages) and it’s quick to just fly through it! Lots of fun, witty banter and even a cameo of a couple from her Texting series! I’m excited to binge more in this series.

Puck Shy is the first book in a new Sports Romance series by Teagan Hunter. The story follows Harper and Collin who have a chance meeting one night where things start off a little less than conventional but ends up being a surprising meet cute. As the night goes on the chemistry between these two really sizzles and shines but these two don't really expect to see each other again but of course the universe has other plans.

This was such a fun, flirty, sweet, steamy yet super cute romance. I loved the connection and banter between these two. This was such a great unlikely friends to lover's romance and felt reminiscent of some of the authors older works that I have genuinely loved without feeling repetitive or stale. This was a super smooth and easy read and I can't wait to see where the series goes from here.

This was the low angst, sports romance read I needed! The writing was addictive and I flew through it!

Puck Shy has a hilarious meet cute, with Collin’s car breaking down in the middle of nowhere on his way back to North Carolina. The heroine, Harper, catches him walking and after being assured he isn’t a killer, offers him a ride to the city since she’s going that way too. They immediately take to each other and bond on the long trip back, but Collin has a secret: he’s a famous hockey player. Harper, not liking anything about sports, has no clue who he is.

So what happens when they part ways, thinking they’ll never see each other again…..but come across each other on a dating app?

This was so fun! The heroine was quirky and I loved it! The hero definitely fell first and their connection and chemistry was swoonworthy. I’ll definitely be finishing this series!

TROPES: sports romance (hero is hockey player); hilarious meet cute; mistaken/hidden identity; quirky, horror-loving heroine; great friends group

GÖZ BEBEĞİM MİSİN SEN
5/5⭐️

🎧🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧🎧

OVERALL RATING: 4.5 "#SignGirlGate for the #win" STARS

PERFORMANCE REVIEW & RATING: 5 STAR

I’m a fan of Tim Paige & Callie Dalton and I think they did a really great job with this story. They both not only did well with their own voices, but also with their secondary voices as well. They brought the story to life for me and made it an exceptional listening experience!

STORY REVIEW & RATING: 4 STAR

From the blurb >>> "It's good, low angst fun with some hot hockey players." Why yes, yes it is!

Ya’ll, I cannot believe this is my first Teagan Hunter story! I spent an entire workday with these two in my ear and it was humorous bliss!! I have to have every single word this woman has ever written at my immediate disposal ASAP!!

From beginning to end, this story was entertaining and captivating. It has a lot of unique qualities to starting with their meet-cute and even Callie’s way of making a living. I especially liked the kismet theme that was woven into the storyline. It made the story not just believable but also realistic and relatable. I did a lot of smiling the day I listened to this audio, but not everything made me smile, but most of it did :)

The first plot point that didn’t make me smile was Collin’s "problem" last season. What happened was a major part of his character motivations in the present and although it was told to us what happened, I felt like I was missing a major part of what made Collin be who he was today. That incident is at the center of his mind all the time and I wish it was developed in a different way. For example, maybe having a prologue where we experience the incident and its aftermath. I don’t know, I just felt like I was missing something by not having lived that moment, if that makes sense LOL Anywho, it did not take away from my overall enjoyment of this story, but it made me kinda sorta mini #twitchy *shrug* The only other tiny nit-pick thing for me was that I felt the conflict that caused the break between them to be kinda sorta … well, silly. And Collin’s abrupt reaction to the situation was #twitchy because, adults people! UGH, with all the choices floating around out there, the author chose that for Collin’s interpretation of Harper’s video! #twitchy LOL AGAIN, tho, nothing really took away from my complete joy of this story!

I’m looking forward to listening and/or reading more Teagan Hunter in the future. Even tho this is my first by her, I can tell from reviews I’ve skimmed of her other books that her light style and voice is something I’m going to enjoy and want to get lost in more workdays in the future :)

What a promising start to this brand new series of light, sexy hockey romances! I loved the texting, the unique meet cute, and the likable characters. These two have chemistry from the moment they meet, and the mistaken identities, online (second) meet cute, and sexy times only enhanced that. It's a low angst treat that's easy to devour, and it definitely has me interested in more from the series. I'm already excited for the next couple, and that's always a great thing. My only complaints are minor ones, and I considered a higher rating. But a couple of small things rubbed me the wrong way, so I'm sticking with this solid 4-star rating.

The story follows Collin, a pro hockey player who is stressed out. His performance on the ice is suffering, and that certainly isn't doing anything to relax him. When Collin meets a sexy stranger on the side of the road, the (platonic) hours they spend together do more to relieve his tension than anything else. But they said goodbye without exchanging numbers, so there's no getting that feeling back. After Collin's teammates convince him that he just needs to get laid, he signs up for a dating app... and finds his mystery woman. Desperate to feel relaxed again, Collin messages Harper without revealing his identity. As the two grow closer, Collin realizes that the relationship that relaxes him also has the potential to be more stressful than anything else.

So there are only two small things that kept me from calling this a 5-star rom com, and they're both personal preference. The romantic in me was really bothered by the fact that Collin was seeking out casual sex while still thinking about Harper, even if he didn't have a way to get ahold of her. Luckily, he finds Harper online before that happens, but it soured some of the sweeter moments at the start of the book. It would've been really simple to have him sign up for the app a few hours prior to meeting Harper, that's all I'm saying. I also didn't love how long the "it's just casual" element remained in play, though I did like the spin on it towards the end. Collin makes a pretty cute hero - he's a nice guy and I liked him from the start. His relationship with Harper is quirky and playful, which helped make this a low angst and fun read - something that Hunter excels at. It's the reason I one-click her books without hesitation. I'm very intrigued by a few of Collin's teammates, and I'm already envisioning where the rest of the series will go. I'm ready to find out! I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sexy sports romance.
