The Trailblazer

Rate this book
I always knew I’d marry my first everything, Declan Yaeger, the Southern boy with Irish roots. That was before he became my first heartbreak, a NHL superstar with a playboy reputation I no longer recognize.

The summer he left our small, Tennessee town, to pursue his hockey dream is the summer my life changed. That was seven years ago, before he became a defenseman for the Boston Hawks. Before I became fixated on my career, losing pieces of myself along the way.

To protect my grandfather's legacy, I agree to marry my oldest childhood friend, Henry. But when I enter the Church on my wedding day, the grey eyes piercing mine aren’t my fiancé’s.

They’re Declan’s, the last person I expect to show up with an offer of his own. One I can’t refuse even though my heart should know better than to accept.

Will my marriage to Declan heal the broken between us? Or are we destined to repeat the mistakes of our past?

When Vivi's first love and first heartbreak turns up as the groom at her wedding of convenience, Declan is the very last person she expected to be waiting at the end of the aisle for her. When he left to become a big hockey star and took her broken heart with him, she fully expected to never see him again. And now he's here when she needs him most. Can she really be expected to trust him again? Or will this marriage of convenience be just another heartbreak in a line of heartbreak for her?

Damn, I was not expecting that gut punch Vivi and Declan's backstory would be. They were so intensely in love, then it was all taken away. But reading as their second chance came true, their love that had never died only becoming stronger, I could not stop reading every page, falling happily in love with both of them.

Is Love Enough?

The Trailblazer is the 7th book in the Boston Hawks Hockey series but my first read by the author and completely works as a standalone. It follows the story of Declan and Vivi, former high school sweethearts, as they get the opportunity for a second chance at the love they once shared. This was a story of a fake marriage to start, Vivi needing to marry in order to keep control of her grandfather's charitable foundation and continue all the good work she worked so hard to achieve. Could this be the second chance she and Declan needed?

With secrets, miscommunication and hurt feelings holding them back, once Vivi opened herself up to the possibility of a real future, the story evolved beautifully. Their love just shined through the pages! Finding true love always has its obstacles and the author added a complication late in the story when everything seemed so on track for this couple. It was heartbreaking and emotional and moved me to the verge of tears as I felt the depth of their struggle. Will their love overcome everything that is thrown their way? Does love always conquer all in the end? I highly recommend reading this book to find out.

** Special thanks to author Gina Azzi for sending me this ARC to read and review through the Final Score Facebook group. **

5 Star Review The Trailblazer (Boston Hawks Hockey #7) by Gina Azzi

This was a fantastic addition to the Boston Hawks Hockey series. The Trailblazer is Declan Yaeger and Vivi’s story. Every time I finish one of these books I feel as though I have a new favourite and this book was no exception. I fell hard and fast for Declan, such a swoon worthy man. This was an entertaining and at times emotional book that had me riveted from the first to the last chapter.

Years ago Declan left his Tennessee home to pursue his dream of making it in the NHL. Now years later a successful defensemen for the Boston Hawks. He left behind Vivi who was concentrating on her career. Now years later VIvi is in need of a husband to protect her inheritance. Planning to marry one of her best friend’s Henry, she is shocked to find Henry has decided he cannot go through with the wedding and that Declan is prepared to step up and help her.

This is a second chance at love story that ticked all the boxes for me. The chemistry between them is impossible to ignore, and I loved the development of their relationship once they cleared the air about the past. Can their marriage of convenience give them a chance to heal the hurts of the past? Or will the past continue to ruin their chance at happiness?

For me Declan and Vivi are two halves of a whole, destined to be together. Their journey was rocky but it was worth it in the end. Of course seeing some familiar faces whilst reading just added to me reading pleasure. Another fabulous read Ms.Azzi and I cannot wait for the next release.

What a wonderful second chance romance! I loved that Declan, Vivi, and Henry grew up as best friends. Of course it was always Vivi Declan had eyes for and vice versa. It was so nice to see how those friends would do anything for each other. Declan had always dreamed of playing professional hockey. Unfortunately this took him away from Vivi at one of the worse times. Declan had no idea what was going on, especially since Vivi was being stubborn and wouldn’t take his calls. I couldn’t believe that Declan walked out of a game when he heard Vivi’s beloved grandfather passed away and Vivi was in trouble. I was glad he made it In time to marry Vivi instead of their friend Henry who didn’t want to marry Vivi. I was glad Vivi agreed to move to Boston where Declan’s Boston Hawks family embraced Vivi and made her feel wanted. There were so many parts that touched my heart, and I got tears in my eyes. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

I think this might be my favorite book in the series - Declan and Vivi stole my heart right from the beginning. I'm a sucker for second chances and this one was so beautifully written.

These two have a past that was never resolved. And when she needs help he leaves everything to run and help. The past is hard to let go and Vivi is (at first) very reluctant to a second chance but Declan is determined to make her see that they are meant to be together. When life throws them another obstacle in the way they need to see if love will be enough to make it through.

And now I want to see just how much of a fight will Simm's put before succumbing to the power that is love and HEA.

Second chance romance bliss! Gina’s latest addition to this series is an emotional but fun story.
Declan and Vivi have such a connection from way back and reuniting under Vivi’s grandfather’s wishes is just the beginning.

If you love this series as my as I do, you will love all the characters that come together in this story to make it complete.

Gina Azzi has a game-winner with THE TRAILBLAZER (Boston Hawks Hockey #7). In this story, Genevieve Rae Kelley (Vivi) must get married by her twenty-fifth birthday in older to run the Harrison Foundation per her grandfather’s will. She has a week to find someone to marry. Her best friend Henry Stevens offers. When Boston Hawks defenseman Declan Yaeger discovers the news, he leaves during a game to head to Tennessee to confront his childhood sweetheart. Henry decides he cannot go through with the marriage; Declan offers to take his place.

I really enjoyed this story. Declan and Vivi haven’t seen each other in seven years. They are the love of each other’s lives. When Declan went away to college, Vivi ended things. It broke both of their hearts. I love that they get a second chance. Things happened that the other wasn’t aware of. Misconceptions have to be explained, secrets must be shared, and trust needs to be rebuilt. Plus, Declan has some making up to do with the team.

THE TRAILBLAZER is a heartwarming story. There is never a dull moment. It is skillfully written. The characters are endearing. It is the perfect addition to the Boston Hawks Hockey series. I recommend this book to people who enjoy sports and second chance romances. This story could be followed as a stand-alone, but I recommend reading the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

The Trailblazer gave me so many feels and it's the sweetest thing! Declan and Vivi's journey towards the happily ever after is an emotional rollercoaster and my heart ached for both of them!

Declan and Vivi have always had amazing chemistry and even years apart never changed that. Their second chance story is astonishing, it was all I wanted it to be and so much more!

The raw emotions between them and how the deep connection only heightened is everything. You can truly feel their love throughout the book and it had me so emotional. The way both of them never stopped loving each other had me so close to just bawling, it always gets to me!

Declan and Vivi are so sweet and honestly absolutely perfect! I was completely mesmerized in this book and I could read about these two forever! Was I swooning so hard? Absolutely! Did I almost have my heart broken? Oh yes. But omg I loved it so much!

"I want everything, baby, and I feel so damn grateful for whatever you're willing to give me."

Gotta say I think Vivi and Declan became my new favorite couple. These two are pretty much everything every couple wants to be. Vivi is definitely the reluctant one in the Duo at first. These two conquer so much and the ending is super sweet.

Declan and Vivi's story is definitely a different take on the marriage of convenience. And I loved how different their story plot is. And it's also a second chance for them, it's even more emotional and captivating. I loved these two right from the beginning. I was kind of hoping for more push and pull, grovelling than what happened in this book. But even so, I still enjoyed and loved their story. I loved how Declan was all-in, it was a no-brainer for him once he knows what Vivi needed. But you can already tell they were soulmates. And I'm glad they found their way back.

Second chance romances are one of my favorites! Fake marriages are one of my least favorites. But this one has both and I loved it! But that’s no surprise coming from Gina Azzi! We get Declan’s story in this latest from the Boston Hawks Hockey series. And we meet Vivi. Their history is a sad one but now they have another chance! I loved seeing the other players who are settled in relationships taking Declan and Vivi under their wing along with the girlfriends and wives. This was an entertaining read and another great story from this series!

Gina Azzi knows how to deliver truly emotional stories that will grip you and never let go. In The Trailblazer, the seventh book in her Boston Hawks Hockey Series, Azzi gives us all the feels in this second chance sports romance that will leave you waiting for more.

For Genevieve “Vivi” Kelley, taking leadership in the Harrison Foundation has not only being her salvation, but also a way to keep her grandfather’s life’s purpose going. Yet, her role in the foundation is put on hold the minute she finds out that in her grandfather’s will, her stake in the foundation is contingent upon marriage. Vivi doesn’t understand why the man that practically raised her would allow her future to depend on a man. She is worried of what it’s going to happen to all the philanthropic causes her grandfathers fostered in the hands of her cousin, Alfred. With no other choice and the clock ticking to get married before her twenty-fifth birthday, Vivi decides to give in. But her choice of groom has cold feet and the man that she thought would never see again steps up to marry her instead.

There is a lot of history between her and Declan Yeager, not only did they grew up together, but he was her first everything. Then he left and her life around her crumbled. He is set on convincing her that she should give them a second chance, but there is something that Declan doesn’t know and Vivi is afraid of how that is going to affect their future once he finds out.

Declan Yeager couldn’t be happier at the fact he was able to turn his childhood dream into a reality. As the defenseman for the Boston Hawks, he is grateful to have had Beau Harrison’s support growing up and now as he plays in the NHL. But it’s a phone call that Declan gets from his dad that completely changes his life around, when he finds out that Beau Harrison has passed away. This immediately makes Declan think of Vivi, the one he left behind when he when on to pursue his hockey dream. It’s been seven year since they’ve seen each other and when he finds out that she is about to get married, Declan sets out to find out what truly happened to them all those years ago. Little did he know that he would end up marrying her in front of those close to them in the same place they promised each other that they would growing up. This makes Declan realize that he can’t give her up, he just needs to make her see that they can have a future together.

The Trailblazer was sweet and romantic. I really enjoyed the overall story, it was touching and emotional. The characters go through a lot, especially Vivi, who finds herself going through traumatic experiences. The author did a good dealing with the subject matter while giving us a story about getting a second chance at love. It’s evident that Declan still has feelings for Vivi and is willing to prove to her that they belong together. The ending was my favorite, it brought the characters’ story to full circle. It fit them so well and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I would highly recommend checking it out if you like second chance friends-to-lovers sports romances. You will not regret it! :)

The Trailblazer, book seven of the Boston Hawks Hockey series, takes you on an emotional rollercoaster from the start. It’s second-chance love story with plenty of ups and downs and so much hope written into its lines.

When the story starts during her beloved grandfather’s will reading, we find Genevieve, or Vivi, is put in the awful position of get married before the following week or lose partial control over her family’s charitable Harrison Foundation and share the role with her money-minded cousin. She decides she can’t let that happen and gets her best friend to step up and fill the husband role. Declan, a professional hockey player for the Boston Hawks, finds out about Vivi’s wedding that will take place the next day and walks out of the arena before a game to drive the 17 hours to his hometown of Nashville in time for the wedding. When he gets there, we find out that Henry is backing out and in comes Declan to take over as Vivi’s husband. These two share a past that ended in unfortunate circumstances the summer before college, but that doesn’t mean that was the end of them together thanks to the forced (maybe “coerced by a will” is a better way to put it?) marriage. This book takes us through Declan and Vivi’s relationship starting with their unexpected marriage and all the while revisiting past hurts here and there.

These two were absolutely made for each other! I love that they have such a strong past connection that they reference. The notion of young love is so poetic in a way, and it’s portrayed as a backdrop for their present. It kind of drives home the idea of “meant to be,” and I was all about it. The storyline really had me feeling all warm and fuzzy, which is a plus for me. Also, even though it was so sad, I like that Azzi threw in such a heart-wrenching cause for the real demise of their relationship the first time around. It made their current journey that much more interesting and me that much more invested in their relationship.

Throughout the book, the thought of hopefulness resonates in every aspect of Declan and Vivi’s reconnection. For as much of a sad background that they have, the possibility of what could be and the optimism in their individual lives are the bright lights in this story. Their wedding as a catalyst for a new beginning in their lives is such a foundation for hope itself, and I couldn’t get over just how sweet and endearing it was.

This slow-burn, second-chance romance had me from its first pages, and the dramatic ending was the perfect finish for this story. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

I feel like Gina may have written Declan just for me. He is a small town Irish boy that went away to play hockey in Minnesota. He was a Gopher. My favorite college hockey team ever! Also, two of my absolute favorite tropes ever…..second chance and marriage of convenience. Declan and Vivi were childhood friends that became high school sweethearts. When college came around Vivi ended the relationship. They were both heart broken and lived their separate lives. When Vivi’s grandfather dies and there is a stipulation she must marry, Declan crashes her wedding. Friends, it was beautiful. Also, Azzi did an amazing job describing this beautiful estate in Tennessee. I wanted to pack my bags and crash the party! I think sometimes we focus so much on how amazing hero’s are in the story, but friends. I am in LOVE with Vivi. She is so beautiful on the inside. She cares so much about people and doing good in the world. Vivi gives her time, energy and money to make the world better. Then there is Declan. I love that he stands next to her and supports her at every turn and gives credit where the credit is due. They truly make a beautiful pair. It was clear to me that these two were always destined to be together; it was just getting them there. Their story isn’t perfect. It is messy and there is a lot of heartbreak but it is clear that together they are better people.
In the past the focus of the books was really on the team and the boys, but I loved the sneak into the girls' lives and how they really rally around each other and not only make each other better but bring out the best in their men. You will love catching up with all the ladies from the series in this book! If you are new to the Hawks series, run, don't walk to catch up on this hockey crew, you will not be disappointed!

While I adored this book and loved every minute of it, check your trigger warnings because this is an emotional read.

"I close my eyes, I part my mouth, and I kiss Declan Yaeger the same way I did when I was twelve. With hope and heart and heat."

This latest installment in the Boston Hawks Hockey novels focuses on Declan and his childhood love Vivi. The pair have been friends and lovers since they were young, but when they decided to go to college, they parted ways. Through a series of misunderstandings and lack of communication, they both cut ties with each other for the last 8 years. However, when Vivi is in trouble, Declan literally drops everything to come to her rescue. Declan has his dream job playing for the Boston Hawks, but Vivi is in danger of losing her dream job to her business focused cousin. Vivi has been operating the philanthropy section of her grandfather's business for so long, but when he put a marriage clause in his will that requires Vivi to marry by 25 to continue with this work, Vivi will do anything to make sure she's able to continue her passion of helping people, including marry a man she once knew.

Though Vivi is hesitant to get to know this new Declan in her life, I did enjoy the fact that she opened up to Declan about why she stopped talking to him, which allows them to clear the air and discuss whether or not they want to get back together. Going in, I knew they would get back together, so the HEA obsessed part of me was free to read about their journey. From their insecurities, to integrating each other into their new lives, to meeting new and reconnecting with old friends, you get to see Declan and Vivi adjust and learn to love each other again. This was such a heartwarming story about two people who faced a lot of obstacles and distance throughout the years, but who still could not forget their first love and willing to fight for their happy ever after.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
STEAM: 🔥🔥🔥

Gina Azzi always knows how to bring on the feels, and she did not come to play (hockey) games in this book.
Declan and Genevieve (Vivi) were childhood-friends-turned-lovers who ran into serious miscommunication at a crucial point in their lives. Since then, they have physically parted ways -- though each remain firmly embedded in the other's mind and heart. A family death brings Declan back into town to see if Vivi was really getting married, only to find out that she is being forced to do it to save her and her grandfather's legacy in her family's foundation. When Vivi's initial "fake husband" flakes out, Dec steps up to the plate to help her.

The chemistry between these two were undeniable from the get-go. Despite years and distance apart, it was clear that the love they had for other only laid dormant and never faded, and Gina Azzi does a fantastic job in infusing small details along the way to lay that groundwork. One of the things I love (and honestly dread in a good way) about reading Gina's series is how she gets you emotionally invested in her characters, and this book was no exception. I felt the hurt, the loss, and the longing as we learn more about the main characters' past leading up to the present.

The romance is justifiably slow burn, but the journey to the spicy scenes engages you to keep turning the pages. If you're looking for a wholesome, captivating read about coming back to the one love you let slip, this is a fantastic choice.

It is always wonderful to go back into the Boston Hawks world. Declan Yaeger has been one of those characters that we haven’t really heard too much about. He keeps his private life extremely private, and what entails is something you don’t expect.

Vivi, Genevieve Kelley, is being forced to marry per her grandfathers will if she wants to keep control of the charitable foundation that she runs. We find out that Dec and Vivi were childhood sweethearts that broke up the summer before they went to college and Dec never truly understood why.

These two are destined to be together, but time, distance, and some stubbornness of both their parts has kept them apart. When you learn what Vivi went through on her own, and her reasons behind why she made the choices she did you feel for her. She was an 18-year-old girl who was a little lost in the reality that she was living. Declan, too, you understand the choices that he made because he was an 18-year-old boy.

When Declan hears about the fact that Vivi is going to marry someone, he drops everything, leaves his hockey game and goes home to a place he hasn’t’ returned to in the 7 years since he left. If she is going to marry anyone it is going to be him. What follows is a wonderfully written story of love, loss, and growth for two people who are meant to be together. I enjoy the way in which Gina Azzi writes these two because, while scared of their emotions in some ways, are open and honest with each other. I love the fact that they communicate in ways that they didn’t when they were younger, and it allows misunderstands and mistakes to be worked through not become larger issues. This is a different take on the marriage of convenience trope, but it was really well written and thought out and can’t wait to see what happens next with the Hawks.

Gina Azzi has written a beautiful, second chance story that grips the heartstrings in The Trailblazer. She deals with a very delicate topic with grace and consideration. Yet another story that hits you in all the feels. I'm so thankful for the Boston Hawks Hockey series.

What do you do when you find out your grandfather has put a marriage clause in his will saying you must marry by your twenty-fifth birthday, which is next week, or you will lose everything you've worked for? You ask a childhood friend to marry you, even if it's the wrong childhood friend, not the boy you've been in love with your whole life. What if the boy you do love gets a call from his Da, telling him the girl of his dreams is about to marry someone else? He shows up at the church just as she's about to say "I do" and asks her to marry him instead. That's exactly what happens with Genevieve and Declan.

Declan Yaegar, is a defenseman for the Boston Hawks. Genevieve Kelley, or Vivi as he calls her, is about to marry someone she doesn't love to keep control of her grandfather's foundation. Dec and Vivi were each other's firsts: first kiss, first love and first heartbreak. Neither has forgotten the other nor have they been able to find someone to replace them. Declan arrives in time to stop her from marrying a mutual childhood friend. He steps up and marries Vivi knowing about the conditions of the will. Not everything is simple as it seems and there are reasons why they haven't spoken in seven long years. Can they make a true marriage out of this arrangement or will their history put up a wall that keeps them apart?

Declan and Vivi's story had me crying and reaching for the tissues along with my comfort blanket. This was such an amazing story told with so many emotions. I am so glad that Gina Azzi writes these touching and tender stories.

The Trailblazer
Declan and Vivi
Second chance/marriage of convenience
*trigger warning, this books deals with miscarriage*

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was just a sweet, simple, second chance story, no drama, no angst. Lots of hurt feelings, but ultimately, forgiveness.

Declan and Vivi fell for each other when they were ten years old. Shared their first kiss at fourteen. They dated throughout high school. When it came time for college, Vivi breaks his heart when she breaks up with him. The last thing she wants is to hold him back from achieving a career as a hockey player.
Seven years later, Declan learns that Vivi’s granddaddy has passed away. This is horrible, unexpected news. He’s the whole reason he had the money and means to pursue hockey. Along with that news, he learns Vivi is getting married.
Nothing about this makes sense. Why would she marry so soon after his death?
Genevieve, Vivi, learned at the reading of her grandfather’s will, that in order to inherit the charitable foundation they ran, she would have to marry before she turned twenty-five. Three days from then. She convinces her best friend to step up for her, but he backs out at the last minute. And in steps a blast from her past. Declan. He agrees to marry her.
I loved both these characters. They were both strong, stubborn and caring. Neither ever stopped loving the other. They have a few things to get straightened out, but after that they are headed for that happy ever after.
I loved that this book didn’t have the typical “breakup just so they can makeup” scene. The potential is there, but instead of jumping to conclusions, they actually talk. It was refreshing.
It’s told in dual points of view.
No cheating.
The epilogue gives us a glimpse into their future.
I would read the series in order, being a team, the past couples cross over into all of the books.

The Trailblazer is the 7th book in Gina Azzi's Boston Hawks Hockey series- but it certainly can stand on its own. This marriage of convenience/second chance romance shows that time isn't really a factor when it comes to matters of the heart.

Genevieve, or Vivi, has been living life in a fog. She has been solely focused on her work for the last 7 years so that she didn't have to think about or feel the emotions surrounding Declan Yaeger or the byproduct of their young love. When her grandfather unexpectedly put a stipulation in his will that she needed to be married to continue to have control over her charity work, she finds herself planning a marriage of convenience. When Declan hears about Mr. Harrington's passing and Vivi's upcoming nuptials, he finds himself walking out of a game and back in his hometown to stop her. Only he doesn't stop her, but instead finds himself volunteering to be her new husband.

What another fantastic book to this captivating series. I could have easily read this entire book in one sitting. We only had snippets of Declan in the previous books but even so it is obvious that finding his way back to Vivi and finding out the cause of their mutual heartbreak all those years ago, the man did a 180 in personality. He was loving, devoted, swoony and was ready to put Vivi above all other things including hockey. Vivi had a long road to travel in healing the scars of her heart- and I loved how while she was apprehensive she found that safe space with Declan.

Declan and Vivi's second chance was a sloooow burn- but I loved that once they had it back it didn't waiver. Not to say there weren't some bumps in the road and the dramatic climax definitely had me on edge wishing my eyes could read faster!

Vivi learns after the death of her grandfather that he had added a wedding stipulation to his will and if she doesn’t marry by her next birthday, she will lose control of her beloved foundation. She has worked hard leading the Harrison Foundation and if her cousin becomes an equal partner the foundation will suffer. With no prospects of husbands in her life, she asks her best friend Henry to marry her. As the time of the wedding is approaching, she lets Henry off the hook just in time for Declan to arrive on the scene.
Declan and Vivi had known each other since childhood and were high school sweethearts. But everything changed when he left to pursue his hockey career and never came back to town. When Declan’s father tells him Vivi is marrying Henry, Declan leaves his first game on the team to make it there before the wedding. Discovering why Vivi needs to get married, he offers to marry her. He has a lot of questions about the past and hopes by marrying her they can have a second chance.
The Trailblazer is the seventh book in the Boston Hawks Hockey series. While I have read a few of the books, I had no trouble reading any of them as a standalone. The book was well written, had low angst, and was entertaining. I loved seeing characters from previous books and the rest of the team. The teammates and their wives have a strong connection and are amazingly supportive of each other. Vivi and Declan had issues that kept them apart and they were all due to a lack of communication. Once they started communicating with each other their relationship grows. Their connection was strong, and I was so happy they got a second chance together. This was a great book and it led to the next one. I look forward to reading it next.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Just when I think I have read the best in the Boston Hawks Hockey Series, I pick up the next book only to be saying once again this is my favourite so far. The Trailblazer was everything I expected and so much more and I honestly think I have found my favourite book boyfriend in Declan Yeager.
Declan Yeager left his small hometown to pursue his hockey career and when he walked away he took a piece of Vivi’s heart with him. Declan, Vivi and Henry grew up together, best friends throughout but now it’s only Henry and Vivi so when she needs to marry to inherit and keep running her Grandfathers charity she asks Henry to become her fake husband what she didn’t expect was Henry to get cold feet and leave her at the alter and then for Declan ( who she never knew was there) to step up and become her husband. What follows is a beautifully written second chance love story and it’s a story that will appeal to all romance lovers.
I love my visits to Boston and I love catching up with the players and the close knit families and friends of the Boston Hawks, it a series with wonderful characters, with captivating journeys but more importantly stories you can really relate too. A marriage of convenience gives this couple a chance to heal their broken hearts, two soulmates given a second chance at love and happiness but this story is not all about happiness it’s also a story of loss and heartbreak. I highly recommend this series to all sports romance lovers but it will also appeal to romance lovers because it’s a journey with all the feels.

I really loved this latest installment of the Boston Hawks Hockey series and what a great second chance romance this was. I really didn't know what to expect from Declan's book as he was a bit of a player and to read what a loyal, determined man he is,  makes this a very beautiful love story and it was just a joy to read.

Declan and Genevieve/ Vivi were childhood sweets hearts. I won't go into the why's and where's that made their relationship fail all those years ago. But it's a sad tale to read. Things are very smooth sailing throughout this book and there isn't a lot of upset to report until history threatens to repeat itself, I was so upset reading it. There is a whole heap of happiness in this book and this couple proves that what is ment to be will find a way.

This book and series are a huge recommendation from me. I really enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next installment in this great hockey romance series.

Vivi’s in a bit of a bind. In order to continue with the work she loves, she must marry by her 25th birthday, which is next week. Yeah, she doesn’t understand it either, but her grandfather put a marriage stipulation in the terms of his will, and now Vivi, who isn’t dating anyone (and had no plans to) must find a husband. Fast.

Vivi agrees to marry Henry, her best friend, but on the day of her wedding, everything changes. Professional hockey player Declan Yaegr, her first love, has skated his way back into her town and into her life with an offer of his own. And although Vivi knows she’s just asking for trouble, she agrees. But Declan wants her heart as well, and that’s not something she’s sure she can give.

Wow!!! This book was super sweet and steamy, with just the right amount of angst. Gina Azzi is a new to me author, but I know I will be checking out her other work after this. Declan and Vivi had so many problems to work through, but I was rooting for them from the very beginning. Their chemistry was so incredibly obvious, even when Vivi was trying to deny that it was there.

Vivi. She’s been through so much, but she’s still so incredibly full of grace. She’s such a lovely person, and I loved that Declan wasn’t the only one in the novel who appreciated that about her. Declan. He made some mistakes, yeah, but I never once doubted his intentions towards Vivi. He was kind, caring, attentive… he was the perfect husband, and is the perfect book boyfriend. I completely recommend!

What an amazing second chance romance right here! Declan will make you swoon, and Vivi will win your heart in this story! 5 hockey stars for this one!
When Vivi's grandfather passed away, he put a stipulation in his will, that for her to continue her work in the foundation she devoted her life to, she needs to be married by the time she's twenty five, which is only one week away. So she asks her best friend Henry to step up, and he agrees, that is until the wedding day, he loves her as a friend, but he just can't do it. Imagine her shock when Declan, her first and only love shows up at that time and steps in to help her, and she figures she safe from losing her heart to him again, he had hurt her in the past, she won't let it happen again.
Declan runs to Tennessee, leaving his team before the start of a game, when his Pa calls. He doesn't think twice, he gets there just in time to see that his first love, only love is about to marry their other childhood friend Harry. When Harry bows out of the marriage, he steps in to help Vivi so she can keep doing her work in the foundation her grandpa set up. After all, he had told her grandpa he'd always take care of her.
This story amazed me, Declan was super sweet and swoony, and Vivi, though having been through the ringer, leans on him to help her. Just when I think Gina can't out do the last book, she writes this one and I couldn't put it down! I love this series, you don't want to miss out on this one! Grab it asap!

I absolutely love friends to lovers romance and Gina delivers with The Trailblazer. Vivi and Declan's story warms your heart. To have your first come to your rescue after years apart, is a dream come. Or is it?

Vivi needs to get married ina few days in order to keep her grandfather's legacy going. She asks her childhood friend, Henry, but he is unable to go through with it just as she is about to walk down the isle. In walks Declan, her first love and the man who broke her heart. Will she marry him or will the heartache from her past be too much? It's just a fake marriage for a year, so why not? What could possibly go wrong? Will she share her heartache with him?

Declan is a professional hockey player that has just learned that his first love was in trouble as well as her grandfather just passed. He shows up at her wedding to find out that his friend, Henry is backing out. How could he back out if she was in trouble? Declan decides to step up and marry Vivi. He has always loved her and now he's marrying the woman of his dreams. Will it really be a marriage of convince? Will his Hawk family make her feel part of the family? What will Declan do when he learns about why Vivi never returned his call seven years ago?

Gina has your heart beating a little faster hoping that things work out for them. She always seems to write with such emotion that you just might shed a tear or two.

The Trailblazer was a really great sports romance. This being my first read by Gina Azzi, I became an instant fan. The different tropes of second chance and marriage of convenience really came together forming a magical creation.
The story that unfolds is about Declan Yaeger and his Vivi. Seven years ago, they had been so intensely in love. Then he leaves their small town to pursue his dream of being in the NHL. In the process, he broke Vivi's heart. In the years that followed, she buried herself in work. Then her beloved grandfather dies. Before she can claim her inheritance, she has to be married. Henry was best friends with both Vivi and Declan growing up. He agrees to marry Vivi even though he really doesn’t want to. Declan is now playing as defenseman for the Boston Hawks. When he heard what was going on, he dropped everything to come to her aide. She shows up at the church and instead of Henry, Declan is standing there. Can she trust him again? Will he prove he never really stopped loving her?
This really was an incredible second chance romance. It became obvious they were always meant to be. I truly enjoyed following along as they worked to achieve their HEA. The angst created by the past still hanging over their heads kept me fully engaged. Overall, it was a heartwarming story. I look forward to reading more by this author. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

📖 ARC REVIEW 📖

#thetrailblazer is the next book in the Boston Hawks Hockey series by @gina_azzi

Declan is getting his chance on the ice. After riding the bench the season prior, he’s ready to show everyone what he has. All that changes when he gets a phone call from his dad about his childhood love getting married. Knowing he has to stop it, he drops everything to get to her In time. If she’s going to marry anyone it’s going to be him. He just hopes that he can get past what broke them up.

Vivi is getting married. She had no choice. It’s just now how she wanted to do it, or to who she wanted to be married to. Henry can’t do it for his own reasons. Regardless of being her best friend, there somethings he can’t do. But getting a shock seeing Declan again was one thing. But him offering to marry her is another. Deep down she wants to be the girl she was a decade ago. With the man she always loved. Can she let herself put her heart back together with the man who once shattered it?

I wanted to love this book a lot more than I did. I love the concept of second chances, but something just didn’t click for me. I still enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong. But I definitely loved other books in the series better. Would still 100% recommend this series to any hockey fan!

I absolutely love this series! I love the fun and unique world full of friendship, love, and unbreakable bonds that Gina Azzi has created. Declan Yaeger and Genevieve Rae Kelley (Vivi) are couple goals. Their love is true and transcending. This story checked all the boxes for me. I wasn’t expecting Gina Azzi to hit us with such an emotional backstory filled with intense love, heartache, and tragedy. What starts as a fake marriage turns out to be Declan and Vivi’s second chance. We already knew Declan was swoon worthy. But in Trailblazer we get to see his heart of gold and his devotion to Vivi. This was such a heartwarming audiobook. I loved every moment of it! Thank you to Pink Flamingo Production and Audiobook Obsession for gifting me this amazing audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

"I want everything, baby, and I feel so damn grateful for whatever you're willing to give me."

Lee Daniels and Logan Anare were great together. The flow, timing, and pace were spot on. Their pitch and tones were excellent, and their voices were very fitting for the main characters. This was such a sweet and emotionally captivating story, and they really brought that to life. I highly suggest this audiobook version of this story.

5 HEA Stars!!!!!

To start off with, I love this series. I love it when side characters from other books get their stories.
As with the previous books, this one focuses on the story of one of the members of the Boston Hawks hockey team. This time Defenseman Declan Yaeger gets his shot at love, or in this case his second chance.
See, he and Genevieve, or Vivi as she is affectionately called, grew up together, fell in love and through some major misunderstanding on both their parts lost touch for 7 years. Because they were young and dumb and still trying to figure out life they assumed things about each other and instead of communicating, they just stopped talking.
Fast forward 7 years and Vivi is left with an ultimatum in order to receive her inheritance, get married by the age of 25 or lose control of her foundation. Once Declan becomes aware of her grandpa’s passing, he sets out to find Vivi, be her hero and get her back. They have a lot of issues and misunderstandings to clear up and that becomes more difficult by the fact that they end up married without resolving what happened to them previously.
This is a sweet, emotional second chance story. Your heart can’t help but become emotionally invested in this couple getting their HEA.
