Theodore Edward Sims was supposed to be my hot summer hook-up, a stranger I slept with in Hawaii. Now, he’s my stepbrother’s new hockey teammate.
When we met, Theo was a sexy surfer in Maui, riding waves by day and rocking my world at night. After being played for a fool by my ex-fiancé, Theo proved to be a source of instant gratification.
He was refreshingly honest, engaging, and incredibly charming. Theo built me up when it felt like my world was crumbling down.
Turns out, he’s just like my ex. A liar.
To avoid the gossip of my failed engagement, I hightail it to Boston, where I’m forced to cross paths with a new version of Theo, aka Eddie Sims, Boston Hawks right wing. Here, he isn’t the well-connected, alluring surfer but a determined, angry hockey hunk with something to prove. Especially to me.
Except I’ve written him off. Once a liar, always a liar.
But Theo isn’t backing down. Instead, he’s hustling for my forgiveness. If I give him another chance, will he live up to his apologies? Or am I just lying to myself?

I really, really wanted to love this book as much as I did Panda and Abbi's book, but unfortunately I didn't. I just wasn't able to connect with either of the main characters in the beginning of the story, so I was never able to fully immerse myself in Theo and Sofia's tumultuous journey. I didn't particularly like the fabricated drama towards the end, and overall I was disappointed in my nonchalant feelings towards this novel.

"I've made a lot of mistakes. But I don't want to make them with you."
Theo and Sofia's story was absolutely breathtaking!! Both heartwarming and heartbreaking, a whirlwind of emotions, tears one minute and smiles the next. Theo was nothing like I expected after his troubles with his teammates last season when he cost the Hawks the playoffs. He was surprisingly sweet and swoony with a vulnerability and a need to prove himself. He was so smitten with Sofia, this guy who swore off long-term relationships and never thought he would settle down.
What started as a vacation fling in Maui turned into so much more! Theo and Sofia shared a real, refreshingly genuine connection as they learned to trust and be open and honest with each other. Sofia had been through so much in her life, living in the moments while striving to make her own choices and live life on her own terms yet carrying the burdens of a messy past and an uncertain future.
Who can you be when all your pretenses are stripped? How do you create the life you want to live? How do you fully embrace the now, the ordinary moments that make life worth living? Hurt and betrayal evolved into a beautiful story of second chances and an all-consuming love that rewrote the rules for Theo and Sofia. It was probably the most emotional of the series and definitely one of my favorites. Lesley Isles and Bryant Walker narrated the audiobook incredibly well and I was even more immersed in the story through their narration. I truly loved every minute!

Aaaaah I was not ready for Theo and Sof's story. Not at all. This was a beautiful story, filled with heart, emotion, and strength. Theo was the dependable man that every woman dreams of, and Sof's strength and tenacity shone through on the pages. Another great read from Gina!
Loving this series, another great story that was filled with a ton of emotion and heart and soul. The characters were awesome, and we loved how they rallied around one another with love and compassion and loved the fact that Theo's parents held no grudges for the past's history.
Sofie was a larger-than-life character, living at the moment like it was her last. Due to Sofie's history and past, it is no wonder why she looks at life the way she does, she reminds me of a free spirit. We found her to be a beautiful and kind and loving character. Sofie made is effortless to fall in love with her character.
Theo experienced some rough times himself but, he has taken some time for himself to reflect and dissect his life, and he is ready to move forward and become a better person for himself and his family. Has Theo made excuses for his past? No, he owned up to every one of his mistakes but, he is ready to move forward and after meeting a sprite named Sofie, he wants to be a better person for her also. We loved him with Sofie, they just seemed so natural together and like they had been together forever and not mere months. Loved that!
Loved the chemistry between Theo and Sofie, it was the slow-burning kind. We loved that they made what that had seemed so easy and natural and just perfect for one another.
Overall, a moving and touching story with a lot of love. The last chapter had me balling my eyes out as I could not stop crying. Love the ending, miracles really do happen...
The Hustle was an expected surprise. I wasn’t sure how Eddie’s story would go but I knew he had secret. I also knew that when this hero fell in love he would fall hard. I was not prepared for him to be such a thoughtful and sensitive character. Sophie was his perfect heart song. She was drawn to him, and their romances was a gentle one. The fall for Eddie/Theo was in fact hard but not in the ways I imagined. He did not have to fight for Sophia to see him and love him, he had to fight to keep her. He had to show just much personal strength he had. Eddie/Theo is an unexpected book boyfriend. Sophie is one of the most beautiful heroines I have read in a while, I love her out look and her willingness to live in this moment. Having a fling while on vacation should have left Sofia with wonderful memories. Too bad the guy who seemed so refreshingly honest wasn't quite so honest. Now Theo faces an uphill battle to get her to trust him again, to have a second chance with the woman who never left his thoughts even after their time together was over. Not only that, but he'll have to figure out how to get her to overcome the biggest obstacle in their path - her own health.
I love second chance romances, especially when the person who broke them up the first time redeems him or herself. Theo more than redeemed himself, he was a truly wonderful guy with more love in his heart for Sofia than she could possibly have imagined. He worked at bettering himself as he fell deeper for her, and he more than earned his place in her heart. Now I can't wait for more Boston Hawks Hockey love!

5 Star Review The Hustler (Boston Hawks Hockey #8) by Gina Azzi
This was a fantastic addition to the Boston Hawks Hockey series. The Hustler is Eddie (aka Theo) and Sofia’s story an oh what an emotional story this was. Every time I finish one of these books I feel as though I have a new favourite and this book was no exception. I have a new book boyfriend in Eddie/Theo. He is such a swoon worthy, protective and caring man. I was hooked from the first paragraph and read this one in almost one go, I simply had to know what was going to happen.
They met in Hawaii and had one night that neither could forget and yet when they meet again Sofia cannot forgive Theo for his betrayal. This is a second chance at love story that ticked all the boxes for me. The chemistry between them is impossible to ignore, and I loved the development of their relationship once they discussed what had transpired in Hawaii.
However, Sofia is a cancer survivor and lives with the possibility that it might one day return. She lives her life to the fullest knowing that tomorrow is not always guaranteed and I loved her bravery and love of life.
For me Theo and Sofia are two halves of a whole, soul mates who were meant to find one another. Their journey was rocky at times but together these two are invincible and the love and support that they give to one another melted my heart.
Catching up with the other members of the team and their significant others just adds another layer to my enjoyment of what has quickly become one of my all time favourite series.
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it! While for the most part the steamy scenes were kind of fade to black, we did get at least one full scene, and part of the others as well. The beginning was really a good start. It grabbed me and totally made me feel for Sofia. And then Eddie, or Theo as we learn is his real name, well I get why she wasn’t sure when she found out what she did, but really he wasn’t as bad as the little white lie or omission was. And truly, if they were just having a quick, fun fling during the wedding, she really might have overreacted a little. Although it does sound like she at least got a night of fun out of it before she found out.
There was a hint of something about Theo’s parents and their hospital and I kind of got where it would probably be going later in the book. But one thing that really made me like the book was how his parents reacted when it was kind of discovered or revealed. What it shows is that they were the good people that they had seemed to be when Sofia first met them. And Sofia’s family as well was really great. I liked that we had such good people and all of them got together and were able to get along and become friends.
As I mentioned I haven’t read any other books by this author, but I think I would love to read the earlier ones in this series as well as future books. Another new author on my radar to start off 2022!
Theo aka Sims was not my favorite in this series. He did some questionable things that didn't sit well with me in the last book and I was not sure he can be reformed. But boy did Gina Azzi do an amazing job with him. We get to see that there is more to him than meets the eye. He got his wake up call and was willing to do it right this time around and that meant coming clean to Sophia's brother and his team about his past. I loved the interaction between them and the way even when things took a turn he was not giving up on her.
This book made me laugh and cry and I was so happy to see both of them getting the HEA they deserve together.

This story really turned it around for Eddie Sims. I've got to say he was probably my least favorite player on the team up until this book. Eddie (Theo) redeems himself in a big way in this story. Sofia is recovering from a broken heart and starting over. A chance encounter in Maui turns into a crazy coincidence in Boston. Can I tell you how much I love this hockey family that Azzi has created? I love how the other wives and girlfriends draw Sofia in and welcome her to the group. Theo is so patient and so amazing with Sofia. He's in it for the long haul. This book made me cry and steamed up the pages. It's about love, life, and living each moment to its fullest. Fabulous story! Don't miss it! 4.5 stars!
This book serves as a wonderful reminder that life is a windy and bumpy path to a happy ending. The adversities and challenges you face along the way will shape you to be the person you are meant to be, especially for The One.
The eighth book in the Boston Hawks Hockey series features Theo and Sofia. Sofia is counting down the days she can leave Maui and her snobby ex-fiancé's family. While overseeing her last wedding event, she meets Theo. They immediately hit it off and agree to have some short-term fun before she leaves. While they had a fantastic connection, Sofia discovers that Theo has not been completely forthcoming with who he is: He is also known as Eddie Sims, the troubled wingman for the Boston Hawks.
Theo loves his family but hates being judged by their wealth and fame. He assumes a different name to play hockey, fearing his teammates would judge him. After Sofia runs off in Maui, it turns out her brother is his new teammate, and he is pleasantly surprised to run into her again in Boston.
I really enjoyed going through the character arcs for these two, because Gina Azzi did a great job in making their vulnerabilities so relatable. Sofia's distrust and skepticism were even more heartbreaking as we read her breakup and eventually learn about her past. The weight of his family's legacy on Theo was tied in nicely to his destructive behavior in the previous books. The twisting in the ending tied all of these together neatly.
This continued the wonderful theme of the series where we are drawn in for the hockey romance but are left with something more. In this case, it was finding redemption with each other. The chemistry between the two did not feel rushed. It followed a nice progression from strangers to one-night flings to friends to lovers.
I am sad that this series is coming to a close soon. It has been a refreshing and wonderful ride, and I cannot wait for The Score Keeper.
** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. **
Gina Azzi delivers a redeeming and heartfelt sports romance in The Hustler, the eight book in the Boston Hawks Hockey Series. This emotional story is about second chance at love and new beginnings that will leave you rooting for the characters until the very end.
For twenty-four year old, Sofia Carpenter, making the big move to Maui was supposed to be the start of the rest of her life. But soon her engagement ends after her fiancé finds out more about her past. On top of that working as an event planner for the Servinos and Lely Prive Resort also ends, but not before she delivers on her last event. A high profile wedding that she was personally asked to oversee, but little did she know that it would ultimately end up changing her life forever. Then she sees a gorgeous stranger surfing, but never imagined herself meeting him in person. Until Sofia finds out that he is the groom’s brother and it’s his ability to listen without judgment is what draws her to him even more. Their one night together didn’t end the way they had planned as she finds out who he really is and vows to not put her heart as stake again. It would take months later for them to bump into each other again and for Theo to want to fight for what they had in Maui.
As a hockey player for the Boston Hawks, Theodore Edward Lawrence “Eddie Sims,” is used to attracting all kinds of attention. But for the last season, he has been struggling to keep his reputation intact. So his older brother’s wedding in Maui comes at the right time as it gives him an opportunity to get away from the spotlight. Yet, nothing could have prepared him when he sees Sofia for the first time. He is attracted to her right away, but there is something underneath the brave face that she puts when he meets her that calls to him. Her vulnerability and openness is refreshing to him and Theo doesn’t want to let her go. Sofia is not like anyone he’s ever met and holding onto her for just a little longer is what he wants, until she finds out the truth that he kept from her. Finding out that she is going to be closer to him than he thought is what makes Theo want to fight for her even more.
I absolutely loved reading The Hustler! We have two characters who have been given a second chance and it’s when they find each other that their relationship is truly explosive. Sofia has been through so much growing up and it’s though her experiences that she wants be better as well as be able to help those around her. On the other hand, Theo’s upbringing left him question people’s motives when it came to his family. He comes a long way when he meets Sofia. She gives him a reason to want to do better and learn to trust again. But just when you know where the story is going there is an unexpected plot twist that I didn't see coming at the end. All in all, this was such an emotional story filled with hope and a sweet ending to keep you wanting for more. I would highly recommend checking it out! :)
***I received an advanced copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own***
The Hustler is Eddie (aka Theo) and Sophia’s story and it’s the perfect addition to the wonderful Boston Hawks Hockey Series. I feel like I’m repeating myself with each review because every book I have read has become my favourite so far and this hook was no exception. I knew this story was special because not only did I fall hard and fast for Theo, I also didn’t want this emotional romance to end, I tried to string out each and every page to make this story last as long as I possibly could. It was only meant to be one night and that night in Hawaii will never be forgotten so why can’t Sophia move past what she sees as betrayal from Theo when they meet up again. Sophia is a cancer survivor determined to live her life to the fullest, she knows from her own experiences that time is precious and tomorrow is never guaranteed but she demands honestly from her friends and lovers and it’s going to take a lot of grovelling for Theo to convince her to give him a second chance and boy does he know how to win her heart, Gina Azzi did a wonderful job showing us the real side of Theo/Eddie and this emotional read will stay with me long after reading the final words. I adored the characters but it was the love and support they gave each each other that took this romance to another level. The Hustler touched me on so many levels, I smiled, I swooned, I sighed and I cried as I got to know Theo and Sophia. The Hustler will certainly be on my best reads of 2022 and I will be going back to experience this emotional romance with the added bonus of catching up with the rest of the team later his year because this story needs to read again and again because I’m sure with each read I will experience something different. Please one click this gem you won’t be disappointed.
I can’t imagine what Sophia went through as a child with Leukemia and not knowing if she was going to live. I can see why Sofia wants to live every moment that she can. I know how it feels wondering if your cancer will ever come back again. Sofia had such an awful fiancé. I was glad they broke up. The only thing I can say good about him, is that he had Sofia move to Maui which was beautiful. Plus that is where she meets Theo. Theo plays hockey for Boston, but uses the name of Eddie Sims as he doesn’t want people to know how much money his parents make. He had some bad instances where people wanted to be friends with him because of his parents and/or his money. I loved that Sofia’s stepbrother played hockey and was traded to Boston as Sophia moved with him. I loved her brother and how close they were.
Since Eddie/Theo was on the same team as Sophia’s brother, he was chosen to be her brother’s contact to help him acclimate to Boston, and was able to be around Sophia. Sophia was such a great influence on Theo, and his parents loved her. Theo’s family was a real jewel and so down to earth. It was wild how some of the things that happened in their pasts came to haunt them. I love seeing these big, macho men fall for a women and see such a soft side to them! I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
This was just so good. Another great addition to the series. I loved both Theo and Sophia, and their story. Both of them have been burned before so they're trying to find themselves again, reinvent themselves. And that's when they find each other. Though it's not that good since Theo had lied about his identity.
These two were so sweet together. Though there were a lot of hurdles for them to get through. I loved how they can be honest and open with each other. After that one mishap with his identity, he never shied away from telling the truth and communicating with Sophia. I loved that he pursued and chased after her. And he really had to work for it, which I loved.
I couldn't put their story down! It's a beautiful and romantic story.
It’s Boston Hawks hockey time! Gina Azzi is back with a redemption story which left me with warm and fuzzy thoughts about The Hustler.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Theo is better known to the hockey world as Eddie Sims; he’s always wanted his hockey life to stand apart from his wealthy family. He knows he’s been an awful teammate and is ready to put in the work and make some life changes. He goes to his brother’s wedding in Hawaii and meets Sofia, who is working as a wedding planner. Sofia recently broke up with her fiancé and is planning on making some changes of her own once the wedding is over.
Sofia and Theo have instant chemistry, and bring out the best in each other. The morning after they hook up, though, Sofia finds out that Theo is really Eddie, and is tremendously hurt that he wasn’t honest with her. She leaves Hawaii and is convinced she’ll never see him again. Of course, that’s before Sofia moves to Boston with her hockey-playing stepbrother, who is Theo’s new teammate.
Throughout the book, Theo makes the effort to change and be better, both with Sofia and his teammates. He knows he needs to put in the work to make things right. I love his self awareness; without it, he wouldn’t be the likable hero of this book. Sofia has her own baggage to work through, and is intent on following through on her own life changes. Of course, a highlight of this book are Theo’s teammates and their change in his life, from just guys he plays hockey with to his found family.
I really enjoyed this latest Boston Hawks installment. You don’t have to have read all the other books in the series to love this one, but it’s probably more fun if you know some of the Hawks’ backstories. I, for one, can’t wait to see what’s up next for this hockey team!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
As a fan of sports-themed romances I was immediately drawn to this book and stayed glued to the pages courtesy of an amazing heroine and a hero who redeems himself beautifully. Not having read the previous books in this series didn't mar my enjoyment either since all the characters laid themselves bare throughout the story, pulling me in easily. By the turn of the final page I was satisfied, content with the second chance the hero didn't waste, and cheering for a heroine who deserved a HEA.
Theo/Eddie Sims is a man who's made plenty of mistakes in his life, a hockey player who comes from a family of money, and who's been used because of it. For the last year he's been living a double life, engaging in behaviors and antics regarding his team that have taken him to rock bottom, and at the start of this story he's ready to make amends and start over at being a better man. Helping him become a better man is a woman he meets at a wedding, a woman who discovers his deceitful past after an unforgettable night together. Though she runs from him, Fate has a way of making what's meant to be happen, and when he gets paired with the newest addition to the hockey team he finds the one who got away. Together they grow as people, working through their painful pasts to forge a future together in a heartfelt story of second chances. Theo/Eddie had a lot to atone for and I was impressed with how well Ms. Azzi was able to redeem him. As the story progressed he became more worthy of the title of book boyfriend as he never made excuses for the man he was before. He owned up to his past in order to become a better man now. It was a heartfelt journey he undertook, a journey full of heart and soul that pulled at my heartstrings.
Along with an incredible hero there's an equally wonderful heroine who brings out the best in Theo/Eddie. Sofia Carpenter's had a rough past too with a father who went to jail and as a survivor of childhood cancer. It had her acting out for awhile, but with age comes wisdom and she's now living life to the fullest. With each turn of the page readers see a sweet and outgoing heroine, except when it comes to matters of the heart. Not knowing if her cancer will ever return has her leery of opening up her heart to another. She's been burned by love before, so Theo/Eddie's lie is particularly hurtful early on and gives him an even bigger reason to make amends as well as fueling her fears of being betrayed by love again. Despite her fears she takes a chance on Theo/Eddie and together they become an unforgettable couple. In a heartwarming journey full of heart and soul, these two grow as a couple and as individuals and it's a journey I felt privileged to take with them. Layer upon layer was revealed and I came to care more and more about them while rooting for them to get their HEA...and I wasn't disappointed!
On a whole this was an immensely satisfying read with a larger than life heroine and a perfectly imperfect hero who becomes a better man through the power of love. As part of the Boston Hawks Hockey series, Ms. Azzi nicely balances action on the ice with action off the ice while showing the familial bond the teammates have with one another. Despite Theo/Eddie's past bad behavior his teammates rally around him when he needs them most and I look forward to more stories set in this world.
This book totally gutted me in the best way ever. I'm not an emotional reader and I needed a whole box of tissues for this one. The emotional roller coaster ride was unbelievable. A redemption story times two, both characters each having their own pasts to overcome. Gina Azzi blew me away with this beautifully told story.
Sofia Carpenter thought she had a great life and dream job, working with her fiance's family in Maui at their resort planning other people's weddings, until he finds out about her past and breaks their engagement. Her agrees to ending the engagement but her only stipulation is being allowed to stay for one wedding she helped plan that is taking place in one month. When the wedding date finally arrives, she meets Theo Lawrence, the groom's brother and best friend. They have immediate chemistry and spend an amazing night wrapped in each other's arms, planning on spending the reception together. When Theo wakes the next morning, he finds a note saying that she knows who he really is and she won't condone his behaviour. Theo has lived his part of his life trying not to draw attention to his family's well-known, influential name. He used his middle name of Edward and his mother's maiden name, Sims, to create a different name so he could play hockey. Eddie Sims is known as a trouble causing party animal and has the Boston Hawks hockey team has suffered for his antics quite a bit in the past year. This summer and for the coming season, he's sworn off the booze and women trying to redeem himself in the eyes of his teammates.
When Theo gets back to Boston to start the new season, the team's rookie, Jesse and his younger sister, need someone to show them around town and make them feel comfortable. Theo is assigned the position, getting the surprise of his life when he knocks on the door and Sofia answers. Neither of them is sure where they stand after their time in Maui but for the sake of Jesse they need to clear the air, put the past behind them. As they spend time together, the chemistry is just as strong as when they first met and it doesn't lessen their attraction. But as with all good things, it comes to a sudden end when thunderclouds gather. History has a way of interfering and it may just tear the two apart. Can they overcome all the obstacles that are placed before them, beat all the odds and come out stronger in the end?
This volume of the Boston Hawks Hockey darn near broke me. Gina Azzi has handled the serious subject in this story so well, so beautifully, with absolute tenderness. I absolutely recommend this whole series to anyone who loves reading about dealing with everyday life.
Gina gives us a sports, strangers to lovers romance that has us feeling all sorts of emotions from heartache and worry to happiness and love. The Hustler is a story about a woman who thought she had everything she wanted and a man that is holding his true identity. When they meet all reasoning goes out the door.
Sophia thought that she had everything, a great fiance and a great job on the island of Maui. Her childhood was not the best as she had to face some serious health issues. She left her hometown to follow her fiance but when something from her family's past is revealed, she is dropped and fired on the spot. She offers to stay on until she finishes planning the wedding of a celebrity. She bumps into a hot and handsome man, Theo aka Sims, and decides to take chances and have a one-night stand. After a hot and steamy night, she finds out that Theo is not who he says he is and leaves without saying goodbye but does leave a note. Sophia ends up living with her brother who just happens to be traded to the Boston Hawks hockey team. She is excited until she finds out that her one-night stand is his teammate. How will she deal with the man who lied to her? Will his reasoning be believable? When Sophia and Theo become friends, will she let it go further? Can Theo break down the walls that she has around her heart? When she faces another health scare how will her family, Theo and herself deal with it?
Theo, Eddie Sims s a professional hockey player for the Boston Hawks and needs to get his reputation back on track. While at this brother's wedding on the island of Maui, he meets a beautiful and intelligent woman who happens to be the wedding planner. When he decides to approach her he starts to feel something different than the other woman he has met. He is upset to find out that she disappears after a great night together. He thought things were great until he finds a note and a page from a gossip magazine with his true identity. He is surprised to find out that his new teammate's sister is the woman that left him in Maui and he cannot forget. What happens when he tries to tell her why he used a different name? Will she believe him? He has never wanted to be with someone as much as he wants to be with Sophia. When she is hospitalized, how will he react?
I loved the chemistry and the banter that they both had together. Their story is beautifully written and a joy to read. I love this series and even though each book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the complete series.
The Hustler Theo (Eddie) and Sofia Book 8 in the Boston Hawks series
This was a good story. One night together, lies, secrets, and families that would do anything for their children make a very enjoyable story.
Theo aka Eddie Sims, has been around in the last couple of books. He has been living a double life. Using his middle name and his mother’s maiden name for his career. Hoping to keep his very wealthy, influential family out of his spotlight. To his family, he’s just Theo, to the hockey world, he’s Eddie. He’s not a character I cared for at all. He was all about the booze, parties, and the women. As long as he was having a good time, nothing else matters. That all changes when his antics affect not only his team, teammates and his best friends wife. It’s enough to wake him up, and grow up. Sofia has not had an easy life. Lots of bumps, and the latest is losing her fiancé and her job at a beautiful Maui resort. She’s promised to finish one last wedding for a lovely, very wealthy couple. The night before the wedding she meets the handsome brother of the groom. Theo. They have one hot, sexy night together. Until she discovers his real name. Just one more man who has lied to her. Fate has a funny way of stepping in when you need a helping hand. Sofia gets that when her brother is traded to Boston. She happily goes with him. A new town, a fresh start. Sure she’ll probably run into Theo at some point, but they’re both adults, they can handle it. Right? It doesn’t take long for them to reconnect. And that spark between them is still there. Unfortunately there are also some pretty big secrets still left to be discovered and Sofia has an issue come back up that may push them apart. I grew to really like Theo. He completely turns himself around. And something about Sofia has him going all in very early in their relationship. No matter how hard she pushes him, he’s determined to show her he’s always going to be there for her. Sofia was all over the place. She had dropped out of college, wasn’t working, volunteering at hospitals and prisons. She seemed very flighty. She was all in with Theo, until she wasn’t and was stubborn and unwavering in her determination to end their relationship. It was a good story. Well written. I really love the characters. The Hawks women are so much fun, and so quick to bring the newbie into the fold. Dual points of view No cheating HEA
Rarely am I left speechless after reading a book anymore. I mean, read a lot…like A LOT. But The Hustler has done just that, and I mean that in the best way possible. This book is so heartfelt and emotional but filled with the lightness of love, and just trust me when I say you need to read it.
The eighth book in the Boston Hawks Hockey series brings us Theo, AKA Eddie Sims, and Sophia’s story. After quite a period of time where Theo essentially acted recklessly, he’s turned over a new leaf and has rededicated himself to being a better man and teammate. Newly single, Sophia is the events planner at her ex’s family’s resort in Maui when she meets Theo. It’s her last event, and that’s where she meets him. They have an instant and undeniable connection and spend the night together, but when Sophia finds out who Theo is, their fling is cut short. Fast forward to her brother moving to Boston to play for the Hawks, and Sophia decides to move with him. She and Theo reconnect, and from there we get to see their story play out.
These characters! Sophia is vibrant and unique, and she has had such a tough go of things growing up but thrives nevertheless. And Theo? Not going to lie, I assumed he was the spoiled party boy with how his character was portrayed before, but in this book he’s a different man. He’s become this swoon worthy, sweet (but still hot), and genuine character, and it would be impossible to not fall in love with his charm. There’s a sincerity to his character that is so moving, and I could not get enough of him.
I feel like the first theme in this story is redemption. Both Theo and Sophia are attempting to be better versions of themselves (for Theo not to be such a buffoon in life and for Sophia to move past the person she was with her ex), and in finding one another they’re able to do just that. Together they thrive, and their journey is a sweet and romantic one. The other theme though would be love through thick and thin. They’re faced with such challenges, but together they navigate them no matter what. It’s sort of this sense of pure love and dedication, and it’s just lovely and really works for these characters.
This is a thoughtful and rather poignant romance. It’s got so much heart written into its pages, and whether or not you’ve read the other books in this series, you’re going to enjoy it.
The Hustler is the 8th book in the wonderfully swoon worthy Boston Hawks Hockey series by Gina Azzi. While this story can certainly be enjoyed as a stand alone in the series- to really know and appreciate the hero, it is really best to have read some of the previous books. At the very least, book 7- The Trailblazer, since events in this book are mentioned/reflected upon quite a bit.
I have been SO excited to get to Eddie's story! He was the guy I loved to dislike and I just knew that when we got his story it was going to be a good one. I was not at all disappointed. What starts off as a quick one night stand with a unclear identity quickly turns into the start of something more. Gina's portrayal of Theo/Eddie and Sofia was phenomenal- she gave these two characters so much depth and commonality that worked for their relationship while also keeping the storyline gripping in a way that I didn't want to put the book down. These two, simply put, are just fated to be together. They simply just understand and connect in a way that could mean nothing else. Then learning how their lives and experiences cross and mirror each other- I couldn't help but root for them with everything I had.
This entire series has been filled with some devoted, premium grade swoony heroes- and while Theo also falls into this category, I did feel like his character had to work harder to get there- and it was really perfect as redemption to his character. Sofia is sweet, giving and outgoing but also reserved and holds back because of her childhood and the uncertainty she has in the future. Some sports romances focus way too much on the sport- but Gina has written a sports romance series that is so much more. I love how the idea of volunteering and being charitable is an ongoing theme with some of the heroines.
But this book I think has been my favorite in the series. Traveling the highs and lows of Theo and Sofia's relationship, the sweetness, the sadness, the hope and gut wrenching twists- I just fell in love with these two and couldn't imagine a better story for Eddie Sims that what Gina presented us with in the form of Theo Lawrence and Sofia Carpenter.
Sofia Carpenter moved to Maui to be with her fiance and support his career as GM of a resort leaving behind her volunteer work and college. She is working as the wedding planner coordinator at the resort when her fiance decides he's breaking up with her because his parents don't think she's good enough after learning some of her family info. She decides to stay for a month to finish up a wedding with a couple she really likes. The night before the wedding she meets a guy on the beach, Theo who is the brother of the guy getting married. After spending the night with Theo she reads some magazine article about him about him not being who he said he was and she leaves the resort. She moves to Boston with her half brother Jesse who just signed with the Boston Hawks NHL team which she found out Theo plays for them too but his name is Eddie Sims. Eddie is assigned as a buddy for the new guy Jesse and finds he is Sofia's brother. Oh how tangled it is. He has been through some rough patches with the team from last year and just wants to do better. He wants to make it on his own and not as the son of wealthy parents and as Eddie Sims not Theodore Edward Lawrence. Sofia has had her own issues beating cancer when she was 12. She is trying to just live in the moment and get on with her life. They talk and work through some issues and decide they really enjoy each other's company and want to give it a chance. There's a lot going on and family drama that's not known. How will it work out, can it?
This has some gut wrenching moments and deals with cancer but it's done well. Can't wait for the next book! 5 stars
#thehustler is the next book in #thebostonhawksseries by @gina_azzi
Eddie (Theo) has essentially been living a double life since he started the league. Wanting to keep his family name out of the spotlight, because let’s face it, he’s got a bad boy reputation. Now, after seeing how rock bottom he was, he wants to clean up his image, put his team first and start over to be the man he once was. Now he’s at his brothers wedding looking for exactly this, But the last think he expected was to be spontaneous with a girl he just met. Especially when his white lies come out.
Sofia had a rough time growing up. She had a childhood Illness, her dad was in jail and she might have been a little reckless. But she settled down and tried to grow up for the man she dropped everything for. Until the past came out and he dumped her. With her last night in Maui, she wanted to find herself again. What better way to do that than be spontaneous with the best man for the wedding she’s planned. But will secrets that come out halt her happily ever after?
I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. Which is always a surprise. I’ve loved this series and especially when it’s so close to my hometown. I also loved that everything wasn’t rainbows and butterflies, which might sound crazy but sometimes you don’t want things to be perfect in what you read. There’s real life issues that this couple faced. As always, I always love seeing other characters come back into stories. 100% recommend it but be aware of the triggers.
The Boston Hawks have quickly become one of my favorite hockey romance series, and I have been waiting for bad boy Simms’s book. And he surprised me, friends. First off, his name is Theo. Eddie is technically his middle name. WHOA! Hockey players are known to have a lot of names, but this takes the cake with the epic names! And Sofia is in need of some good things to go her way!
Theo and Sofia have the odds stacked against them. She is fresh out of a relationship and Theo is trying to find himself after a tough year. They meet in one of the most beautiful settings and take full advantage, but the real world comes crashing down all too quickly. Stars align bringing the pair together once again. With the truth out in the open the pair work to build a relationship. I will say that Theo had a lot of growing up and owning up to mistakes, and I think Azzi did a fantastic job of humbling him while also having him open up to his teammates. The Hawks crew is so fabulous they welcomed Sofia into their mix and loved Theo the way he needed. Theo also surprised me in the fact that he has deep emotions that he isn’t afraid to show Sofia. This couple is unstoppable when they face their hurdles together as a team.
I’ll be honest, this was not my favorite Hawks book but I still think the characters shined. Azzi’s writing is impeccable and their story is so worth the read. Theo and Sofia’s lives were meant to intersect and they balance each other out, and love so hard! Don’t miss the Boston Hawks book!
The Hustler is the 8th book in the Boston Hawks Hockey series by Gina Azzi. You don’t have to have read all the other books in the series to love this one as this story could be enjoyed as a standalone. Its Eddie (aka Theo) and Sophia’s story and it’s the perfect addition to the wonderful Boston Hawks Hockey Series. Sofia Carpenter moved to Maui to be with her fiancé and support his career as GM of a resort leaving behind her volunteer work and college. Sofia has had a tough life, just when she thinks she's on a great path, she gets kicked down again. Her fiance' is ending their relationship, which means she's losing her job, but he asks her to stay on and do this last wedding since the bride requested her. While at the rehearsal dinner, she meets the best man, who introduces himself as Theo, and they hit it off. Sofia and Theo have instant chemistry, and bring out the best in each other. The morning after they hook up, though, Sofia finds out that Theo is really Eddie, and is tremendously hurt that he wasn’t honest with her. Eddie aka Theo plays for the Boston Hawks and comes from a very influential family, he's been hurt in a past relationship so trust doesn't come that easy for him but immediately there's something about Sofia that intrigues him and he wants to spend more time with her. Hustler was an emotionally charged romance story, filled with heart, emotion, and strength. I loved these two together it was so sweet and the perfect way to wrap up their story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Eddie Simms is the playboy trouble maker, and if you've read previous books in the Boston Hawks Hockey series, you know his story was going to be interesting. I was very curious how he would get his life back on track.
The first thing we learn is that Eddie Simms's real name is Theo! He comes from a wealthy family, and to create some independence, he goes by his middle name and mother's maiden name for his hockey career. This 'alter ego' is a blessing and curse for Theo and impacts his journey.
Sophia, this girl, has been through a lot; Surviving leukemia has a child, and most recently getting dumped by her fiance. The end of her engagement is a catalyst to assess her life and the choices she's made. It allows her to return to the volunteer activities with hospitals and prisons that she is passionate about.
Sophia and Theo have an instant connection, leading to a very steamy one-night stand. Of course, Theo has to earn her trust back when they reconnect, but you feel that natural chemistry again. Theo recognized early on that his connection with Sophia was different, and it was a game-changer.
I was surprised by how quickly the story moved along. However, I wish parts of the story were more developed, or elements were expanded.
While many of the books in this series can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading at least The Trailblazer first. It will help you understand the gravity of Theo's actions and make his redemption more meaningful.

I really enjoyed this book. It was an unexpected heartbreaking tale. It's about a love that was an instance and one that is worth fighting for, even when the odds are completely against you. Theo and Sophia meet and it's instant and magical. But when the truth hits Sophia she runs. This is where the real story begins.
As you read this story you realize just how fated Theo and Sophie have always been. Now I won't say more about this beautifully heartbreaking book. It's fun and you get quite a few laughs but the tears overshadowed most of those moments but not for the worst.
To say I recommend this book and series is an understatement. This book is a brilliant addition to this series. I love the flow of the stories and how you get to see the previous characters' stories evolve.
“May your days be filled with moments, and magic, and miracles.”
Title: The Hustler Author: Gina Azzi Format: ebook Genre: Romance, sports (hockey), second chance Standalone: yes Part of a Series: Boston Hawks Hockey POV: Sofia, Theo Steam Level: warm 5/5
Gina Azzi has outdone herself with The Hustler. The Hustler is Eddie’s redemption story. This story starts in the off-season after the previous book (which you don’t need to read because the events are mentioned/explained. Theo, aka Eddie, has realized the consequences or potential consequences of his actions and has decided to become the man he knows he can be. I love that his backstory is nothing like what i expected. Theo and Sofia meet in Maui at his brother’s wedding that she planned. They have one great night and then Sofia flees after Theo doesn’t tell her about Eddie. She’s been hurt and doesn’t have time to deal with his BS. Fast forward to the hockey season starting and Theo and Sofia are reunited. I like that their story isn’t too dramatic-Sofia’s backstory is emotional enough. That being said I saw one thing coming a mile a way whereas something else not so much. This story was amazing. I laughed, I cried and I fell for Eddie/Theo.
I received an advanced copy of this book for free. This is my honest and voluntary review.
