Of note, I did not realize this was a Christian publisher and the book contains a long prayer and recruitment info at the end so they can 'send you some materials that will help you become established in your relationship with the Lord" because "God desires to heal you from disease." Those expecting a more secular keto book won't find that here.

The book is fairly straightforward - the first part discusses keto dieting (with an emphasis on losing weight), why some of the author's patients plateau in the diet, and the key points of carbs, protein, fat. Exercise is briefly discussed. The second part of the book discusses transitioning from straight keto in a more lifestyle friendly Mediterranean keto diet (e.g., adds a bit more carbs).

There are sections with supplement recommendations and then some Mediterranean keto-friendly recipes. This is a quick read and can be finished in under two hours. The point of the book is that while many start with keto diets few actually decide to stay with that as a lifestyle choice and go back to higher carb eating. The Mediterranean angle is to give a way to keep eating healthy/keto. reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Dr. Colbert supplies another great book for my health journey. Lots of great info and real world information about living healthy but also about prolonging your life.

If you enjoy that old style of diet book, with the benevolent doctor talking down to you (complete with religious messaging, and text-only recipes that smack of self-deprivation and virtue)... well congratulations! This book will be right up your alley.

There is some good info in the first part of, which presents various medical/scientific information -- though I can't help feeling suspicious of any doctor/researcher who presents their work with an obvious religious bent... I know some of the info is good, but I hesitate to trust anything new I read here, without independently verifying. HOWEVER, the recipe section is just plain awful. First of all, some of them don't even follow the advice the author gave us earlier: the Nutty Cereal contains coconut, coconut oil, macadamia nut oil, and stevia; plus nuts, cinnamon, and sea salt. So basically this is a heap of saturated fat with an artificial sweetener, both things we are (rightfully, it seems) told to avoid!

Generally speaking, the recipes are the same tired old things you can find on any keto (or even regular "diet") resource. I would split them into pretend foods (fake pizza/muffins/bread, "zoodles," cauliflower rice, Chinese chicken strips) and virtuous foods (salmon and avocado lettuce wraps, nutty granola bars, chia seed pudding). I just can't see anyone actually eating this way for the rest of their lives, without feeling like they're being deprived of the real deal!

The key to success and happiness, with the keto or keto-Mediterranean lifestyle, is to stop trying to replace unhealthy dishes with some second-rate imitation. Why not learn to cook new dishes that actually make delicious use of real ingredients? I recommend cookbooks like Well Fed: Paleo Recipes for People Who Love to Eat or The Whole30 Cookbook: 150 Delicious and Totally Compliant Recipes to Help You Succeed with the Whole30 and Beyond: filled with recipes that are keto, or can be made keto with minor adjustments... and which are tasty for what they are, not for what they are trying to be.

Found this a helpful reintroduction to Keto with encouragement! Shows the transition to a Mediterranean-keto once health and weightless goals are met. Helped me feel better about being stuck and gave good pointers for finding why. Will probably read the Med-Keto section once I reach my goals because it’s difficult enough keeping dos and don’ts straight as it is!

Although much of the content of this book is standard Keto information, I did learn some new things about the science of food. The eating plan for after Keto is a good one. This book is worth picking up if you are struggling with what diet to follow after you come off of Keto.

I couldn't get into this because it's really rudimentary. Maybe perfect for someone who has only ever heard of keto, and needs a total introduction to the idea. I only read to 11% of it, but I think that's enough

Don Colbert is so encouraging and soothing in this book. His encouragement could be applied to anything but it works well in helping his readers get started with the why and how of keto.
