Comprehensive and evidence-based, Structured Literacy (SL) approaches place a high value on explicit, systematic, and sequential instruction. This book brings together leading experts on key components of literacy to help K–6 teachers design and target SL interventions for particular student profiles. Chapters identify effective features of instruction for supporting phonological awareness, basic and multisyllabic word decoding, spelling, reading fluency, vocabulary, oral and reading comprehension, and written expression, especially for at-risk readers and those with disabilities. Including case studies, sample intervention activities, lesson plans, and end-of-chapter application activities, the book contains several reproducible tools that can be downloaded and printed in a convenient 8 1/2" x 11" size.
Did this as a book study with a colleague and while this could be a Greta book stand alone - it also added to it by sharing ideas with someone around it. Highly recommended for any level of educator.
Love how each chapter covered a different topic and was written by different researchers. Lots of up to date research and one I’ll definitely be revisiting.
very focused on students with disabilities. A few hard to read chapters but incredibly thorough and helpful with understanding good teaching practices....for ALL students.
This was a great read for anyone wanting to implement Science of Reading or structured literacy interventions. It is definitely not a super easy read: it’s wordy and the oral language chapter was particularly difficult to understand. However, there were so many specific take aways and I left with many new ideas.
