Freezing snowstorm outside, escaped prisoners inside. Which would you choose?

Lieutenant Pete Marshall and his National Guard unit are used to spending their days on earthquake clean up. Years of natural disasters has them fantasizing about stabler ground.

Ready to get the hell out of there, the men get word of a new mission. The task is transporting cult leader and notorious criminal David Clyde to Mueller Maximum Security, Alaska – appropriately nicknamed Muerte .

Six hours to pick up Clyde, transport him to Mueller and make it back to catch a military plane that will finally take them away.

Underqualified with zero preparation, they arrive at Mueller to find it’s run by a psychopath and his unorthodox methods to cut costs. Not to mention they’ve found themselves lumbered with a mouthy nurse, hellbent on exposing the convict mistreatment.

Suddenly, everything goes dark. No electricity, no vehicles and, above all, unlocked cells.

Exhausted and outnumbered, Pete finds himself in a race against time to gain control of the prison, before Clyde can…

Post-Apocalyptic Saga of Just The First Days

Who would want a slimy, destructive, con-man to be transported to a prison in Alaska? Though this story doesn't take place in our present time it seems to be folly to make such a move when bad weather is coming at any time. This con-man is so slick and oily that he can talk anyone into nearly any nefarious con he would be working. Even considering all of that the job could be considered difficult. But combine all that with the realization that the terrible weather coming their way will be soon be coupled with a total EMP event that makes everything else a nearly moot point. Can the good guys get the job done and protect themselves and others around them? Will the EMP prevent them from getting back to "civilization"?

First the writing and the editing are pretty good. Having worn scrubs numerous times, I'm not sure that sticking a pistol in the waistband would work out well. I'm also not a fan of soldier vs convicts as convicts seem pervasive in the genre. I find it a bit hard to believe that the convicts would prevail against the armed soldiers. The sole female character is incredibly stupid and gets a lot of people killed. The surviving group seemed pretty predictably and I'm a bit on the fence about continuing though I am slightly interested in what happens next.

Pay attention to details

She grabbed the block and put the safety on..... Blocks do t have safeties. Then she tucked it into the waist band of her scrubs. Obviously this person has never held a.flock pistol. There is no way it would stay in her waist band without fa!long to the floor

EMP with a difference

Powerless is a great idea for an EMP and the catastrophic results. Add in a prison, National Guards, a woman and a super bad guy and there’s plenty of action. Didn’t like the ending at all.

Only the Cold Could will.

If you thought being a soldier at the end of the might be the perfect place to. Well let me tell you, Stone Cold Fear will change your mind. This is book one of this series, and I can not wait to start reading book two.
