A savage killing makes Kinsley question if Dorian really is who he says he is... Can she clear his name? What truth will the light of the full moon reveal?
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
I've loved this series up until this book. I don't know where to start. In the last book thorn and kinsley are in love and happy and this book starts the same way. Thorns happy about the new baby and then all of a sudden Kinsley has doubts about their marriage... for no fathomable reason. Next thing we know there's a fight and Thorn has moved out and is cheating on her. Well in the space of hours their happy family falls apart.
The author spent so much time building Thorn up and then tearing him down only to build him up again. We hear lots about what a loving father he is and then this book Laney doesn't exist to him! He coldly ignores Kinsley when she faints and isn't even concerned about the new baby. Sorry this just doesn't gel with the Thorn the author wrote.
Kinsley herself has always known Thorn was over protective, even marrying him. So why now is she seeing problems in their marriage when they were both over the moon about the new baby?
No this story didn't run smoothly and it was as if another author wrote it without reading previous books. For such an enjoyable author, this book was a very disappointing read. The only thing I could come up with was Zane escaped from his jar and pocessed Thorn. But even then, give it up. They are either together or not and this book made me really fed up.

The sh*t certainly has hit the fan in this book. So much going on and overall a good story, but WTF? I've read a LOT of cozies in my life. And I've read none of them that the story takes the twists it has here. It's not that they are bad. Just VERY unexpected. I'll say I've never liked Thorn. And especially not as a love interest for Kinsley, but when they got married, he seemed to mellow out. This book does NOT show that. At all. Talk about 180! One chapter he's all excited and happy at news Kinsley tells him, the next he's arguing about how she's always up in his business and never listens (which, mostly she doesn't, but she IS the MC in a mystery! lol) and slamming his shoes back on and walking out. And then he's just gone. Like no talking about things or trying to work things out, but being seen with a supposed ex girlfriend who had "moved away" and getting totally wasted and then packing his crap and he's gone. I felt like my head was doing the Poltergeist thing this book had me going in so many directions. But it was (obviously) engaging and it was slightly less baby-centric than some of the previous installments and Meri was back to his snarky self (with some from his POV!!). I'm hoping the next book doesn't leave me so hung over with different things all jumbled in my head. There are a LOT of questions here that I'm hoping are answered next go round. But I am looking forward to it nonetheless.

Meri found that it was Kinsley who was suppressing the magic in the area and has broken that but it's different as we saw in the last book when Thorn was injured. Meri is also growing from the kitten size he had been turned into from his wish.
As this book opens Kinsley is getting coffee at the Brew Station when a crow crashes into the window. It's disturbing and leaves behind a heaviness to the air a dreariness. She kicks the energy away and heads to her shop across the square. There she's met by the scent of blueberry scone incense her cousin and new employee Dahlia had ordered. Along with Reggie and Dahlia they ate the breakfast Kinsley brought while waiting for the first tour group to come to the store. They'd just finished when Maura Barlow came in looking for wolfsbane.
The conversation about that and then the request for datura had Kinsley questioning her more thoroughly. Those things aren't used for anything good, and it appears she intended to use them on her cheating husband. It also leads to quite the threat. She accuses Kinsley of being terrified of her witch side and she needs to overcome that or pass on the leadership to someone who cares more than she seems to.
While Kinsley has much to contemplate, she's also not feeling well. When she picks up pepto bismol at the pharmacy the pregnancy tests catch her eye, she argues with herself and gets those too. After dinner Thorn knocks the bag with the tests off the counter and Kinsley decides to take them then. Results are one positive and one negative and it's too late to go get another one.
After a restless night she takes Laney with her to the pharmacy and then takes the tests at her parents. She only does three of the five she bought, and they are all positive. She's most definitely pregnant. It's early for work so she takes a drive to sort out everything going through her head, when she reaches the forest preserves the woods calls to her she needs to commune with nature. After parking she gets out and Meri scares her when he jumps out of her bag. He's not going to let her wander in the woods alone especially not now. They're not that far up the trail when she sees something in the trail, Meri goes closer to investigate and tells her they need to leave right away, the body had been attacked by something large and Meri suspects supernatural.
Once Thorn arrived Kinsley and Meri leave the scene and bring breakfast to Dorian. There's a scent of something in his house that Kinsley doesn't like and makes her suspicious of Dorian. After all, he was once a werewolf. While Dorian and Kinsley prepare to head to the crime scene, Meri is already there doing his own investigating. He does find a clue, but it comes with more questions than answers.
Of course, Thorn has plenty to say about her involvement in an investigation, and even more when she's investigating with Dorian. Seriously Thorn's got a problem with being overprotective and Kinsley just isn't going to take it anymore. Once again, he's off and running.
I really sympathize with Kinsley. She's got a lot on her plate and Thorn always seems to make it worse. Even though she's the one who along with Meri and Dorian seem to be solving the murders around here.
There are plenty of ups and downs as the clues slowly come together adding more than a few twists into play. There's even a small period of time where Meri is a goat.
I am already reading the next book in this series, somehow, I just can't stop reading these.
I don't usually leave bad reviews, but this series seems to be going from decent to bad. It no longer feels like a fun read.
Kinsley was an easy going character at first now she's become a character who is unlikable, uncompromising, and whines about everything. Also, she was hardly ever with her daughter, it feels more like her parents are raising her child. Her investigating skills were pretty much non-existent. Then there's Thorn, the complicated character who changed and became loving and supportive to Kinsley and a good father. I'm not sure if the author had a vendetta against him or not, but Thorn completely was so out of character that the entire book I asked myself "what the poops happened?". His character was randomly portrayed as the bad guy who was cruel, manipulative, and a cheating jerk. I don't understand why the couple can't be happy together, must they really follow the failed relationship cycle his father and Kinsley's mother had? No, they don't, but that seems to be the way the author is heading despite all the trouble the two MC's have gone through to be together. Both Kinsley and Thorn worked well together when they investigated things and as couples, why change that? Don't get me started with the other characters. They were absolutely dull, emotionless, and self-serving. In fact, it seemed like all the characters were going through some fall-out.
I thought this was a mystery book? It read more like an angst filled drama story with a bit of rushed investigating (if that's what you can call it). Kinsley needed everything handed to her and her familiar did pretty much all the work. Thorn and his deputies didn't seem involved. Actually there were rarely mentioned doing any investigating. The ending solution seemed random and predictable. There was so much drama going on that it overlaps the actual mystery and seems out of place. I should mention that the important accident at the beginning of the book was never spoken of again.
Truth is I'm very disappointed in the direction this series is heading and how poorly written and rushed it felt. The characters were all out character and dull. A possible new jerk love interest was thrown in almost at the end of the series? What!? I miss the fun, loving, and interesting characters that the series started with. More importantly the actual investigation and mystery prospect of the story. I'll give the next book a chance in hopes it'll be better, but if not, then I'm done.
I usually forget the cover...until I see it again...
I forget the cover and book title as soon as I begin reading. (And after all that work!) So I wasn't thinking werewolf.
The story wasn't eerie or scary, just another paranormal not minding its own business, and wreaking havoc. I like the series for how Kinsley tries to keep life "normal" despite the obvious craziness trying to get her attention. I also like that she has so many people who love and support her (it would be nice to have it so near and readily).
This was an average story, and I'm hoping for a longer, more meaty volume to come soon.
[Note: I've gone back a couple of books because I forgot where I stopped in the series. It has been a few years, but I liked it enough to recall the general storyline.]
Another great addition to the Familiar Kitten Mysteries! I love reading these cozy mysteries....Sara Bourgeois has a way of keeping your attention until the next thing you know the book is done and you are wanting the next one. This one was no different! This series is about witches and one in particular familiar kitten with a snarky attitude! I love Meri...his snarky comebacks are hilarious! But he also gets the job done Kinsley goes for a walk where once again she finds a dead body...this time it has been mauled by something. But what? With the help of Meri and her reporter friend Darian, Kinsley again delves into an investigation that just may or may not upset her husband, Thorn, the chief of police. There are a few twists in the story that even I didn't see coming... Highly recommend if you like a light easy read and you love cozy mysteries!
This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a unique and entertaining storyline. Kinsley is a witch in a town where her family has been the main which Kevin for generations. The town has a spill over where the humans don’t really see the magic for the most part. They always explain it away is something else. After recently having her baby with her husband the sheriff things are beginning to get back to normal. Until they’re not. Then weird things start happening again and Kinsley must find out what’s going on. Read on to see the further adventures of the skin bore witches.
I liked this series At the beginning and looked forward to each new book and the characters. Unfortunately, the last two have been disappointing. Kingsley is horrible and the writer tries to justify her actions Between having Thorn now becoming the bad guy because he wants her safe, to he complaining how hard it is for being an “all powerful witch” that really can’t even take care of the most basic things. If this book was to show the strength of a woman it really missed the mark.
Changes are in the air again. Kinsley returns to work at her shop, and something upsets her stomach.
She faces challenges from witches who seek her help for dark practices and from her husband, who suddenly questions her role as a protector in their town
not all survive the upheaval
what and who fall victim to the chaos?

The drama is back. Seriously the unnecessary drama is just obnoxious. The on again off again Kinsley and Thorn saga is just off putting.
The Anastasia love saga was equally bad. Tyler died over female manipulation and jealousy. So sad.
Okay I should have asked this at the end of book nine, but what happens to Tangerine? Did she just get left in Viv’s office after she had Laney? Poor dog didn’t even get a proper write off.
Arc review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. In Coventry kinsley finds her self on another case, but she also having alot going on in her family life. This story was awesome story I like to know what thorn issue is and hope the next book says it.
Moon malediction is a good read. The fast pace of the story made me feel as if I had missed parts of the story. This story revealed some shocking information, that I was really hoping was not true. Kinsley is a strong woman and can handle whatever life brings her.

This book needs to be edited. There are several errors that could be corrected. I also didn’t care for this story line. I’ve followed this series all the way, until now. This one bothered me. I feel like it really went in a totally different direction. I’m going to read the next book just because I’m such a fan, but; we’ll see.
Taking a nature walk with Meri, Kinsley discovers a mutilated body which had been murdered by a supernatural. Kinsley is undergoing massive changes in her life as she and Dorian try to solve the murder.
Well this series went from good to bad. Sick of the love on love off between Kinsey and Thorn. She should’ve let Kingsley die like she wanted to a while back. I’m so over these books.
All the trouble to put Thorn and make him sound like a great dad you have no lead in to there being problems. One min their fine next min she is having problems. You can't follow the story because to much is left out.
I love this series but am so confused by Thorne. I keep thinking he’s possessed or something the way he’s a super sweet normal guy one minute and then alpha male jerk face the next 🤷♀️
Things are crazy in Coventry. Things are also crazy in Kinsley’s life, but it seems for the better. Hopefully things will continue to be moving in a positive direction in the next book, but this one did end on a high note! Loved it!
A good story with characters that I’m familiar with and enjoy, especially the cat Meri. There’s a surprising turn of events in this cozy mystery that really surprised me and I am eager to read the next installment. No spoilers.
Another body in the woods! A marriage is falling apart! The murder is solved! A werewolf is the killer! The Sheriff did not solve it! Coventry is busy! Romance falling down! What is next!?
I really enjoyed reading this book! The humor and the drama played well together, and made me laugh frequently as I read. Well done! Now, onto the next book in the series!
Kinsley needs to stop being a doormat already. I was sick of Thorn's Dad when Brighton tolerated his scrap and now Kinsley is dealing with Thorn Jr?? He'll probably be back in the next book but I kinda hope he's not..
Sara Bourgeois is a pure cozy mystery genius. With the supernatural curve ball that she has based the series upon, it is both fun and intense. If you haven't read any of the series yet, give it a try.
Finally Thorn is out of the picture!!!! I sincerely hope it stays that way. He really is the bad guy after all but I still have to know if the vampire will ever return and it gets proved he was right all along. Until next time. Oh and there was no part two yay!!!!
A werewolf, a marriage coming apart, friends, love, laughter. The storyline was surprising in many ways. Just makes me more interested in what comes next!
Interesting read Marital problems rear their ugly heads. There's a murderous werewolf on the loose, and Thorn and Kinsley are no longer seeing eye-to-eye on much of anything. I can hardly wait for the next in the series. What's happening next?
Not up to the usual standard of the previous books in this series. Not sure I will continue to read the Familiar Kitten series. Also, there were lots of typos and grammatical errors. Was this book not proofed?
Some unexpected plot development. Good continuing Character development. Of Course there is a nasty little murder to solve. I will be waiting For book 14
